[Q] Why Android Market Does Not Automatically Download Newer Versions Of Apps? - General Questions and Answers

Apps that are set to update automatically are stuck at "Downloading" as progress meter does not move and i have to update manually by cancelling download which negates the point in automatic app update.
What i causing this?

I have been wondering the same thing, i have applied the check to automatically install updates but it just notifies me that there are updates and i have to manual install anyway! If you get a response i can have the same question answered. My Android 2.1 use to auto install then i flashed 2.3.5 and now it doesn't!

Not anymore i use to have a problem where the download would download to 100% then it would act like it was dropping it onto my phone then for whatever reason it would say "file could not be downloaded" and i had to start all over again, then i went into ClockWork Boot Screen and do a "fix permissions" then i installed "Download All Files" and they have worked ever since! You may need to resort to a fresh install of your ROM wiping ALL forms of data!

Did you upgrade to 2.3.5 or has it always been that? Has the phone always one that?

How to apply 2.3.2 to rooted stock rom phone?

I keep receiving these nags from Google - apply update, apply update, apply update. I'm on a rooted phone so whenever I try to install upgrade it goes nowhere. What is the best way to install it on a rooted phone WITHOUT wiping it, or the next best thing - get rid of this nag altogether?
Thanks!
It may depend on how you rooted your phone. I used Paul 'MoDaCo' O'Brian's superboot tool to root my phone after 2.3.1, then when I installed 2.3.2 via manual zip download, I stayed rooted.

[Q] Did I brick my ATRIX? HELP!

I unlocked the bootloader to my phone then tried to install the new 4.5.91 update. I think this is the problem. I should have updated first then unlocked.
What is happening to my phone now is that while the package is installing, it stops about 1/5 of the way and shows an exclamation point in a triangle. Does this mean I bricked it?
I took out the battery and turned on my phone again but I can't use it because it automatically goes back to trying to install the 4.5.91 update. Then goes back to the exclamation point screen.
Anyone know what is happening and what I can do to fix this? Thanks!

did you mean OTA update?
Yes. I did the OTA update.
I did a factory data reset and phone stopped automatically installing the update every time I reboot. I can use my phone now except with a lot of apps like titanium backup, speed test, picsay pro, zedge, my tracks, yelp, terminal emulator, and a lot more it says "could not launch requested activity. "
What can I do to fix this? Also want to know how to update to 4.5.91 even though my bootloader is unlocked already. Thanks in advance!

Are you rooted? If so what modifications have you done?
Have you uninstalled any of the stock bloatware, even if it was uninstallable without root? The update requires all bloatware to be installed.

Seriously people, search before you post!! We have covered this at least 10 times!Anyways, If you have deleted any of the AT&T bloatware the update will fail. It is STRONGLY recommend that you flash the fkz's to get back to stock before you apply the update, especially if you have rooted and performed any mods. Just be sure to re-root and apply the 4ever root mod to keep root over the OTA.
Or just wait for lfaber to make something awesome with it!
Thanks, I just now stumbled on the other thread's also saying the same thing my bad. And also another question why is the bloatware so important?

It's not that it's important... it's that the update file is filled with a bunch of patches, some of which are for the bloatware, and so if the bloatware isn't there the patches don't install and the update won't begin (it checks everything at first.)
Oh ok thanks
It's not working for me too . I removed alot of the bloatware yes any solution beside restoring fxz ?

Sadly not...
you can just wait for custom ROMs to be based off of 2.3.6 and flash them... this update really isn't very major.
How can I tell if it's even trying to update. I manually started the update about 4 hours ago, but it doesn't look like anything is downloading. When I click on system update again, it says an update is currently being downloaded, but according to 3G watchdog, my wi-fi usage isn't changing. If I turn off wi-fi, it says the download will resume when wi-fi is back on, but the percentage is at 0%, and when I turn wi-fi back on, it stays at 0%.
If it's going to error out, does it not say something? I'm not getting any indication that it failed. Is there not a progress bar in notifications or anything? At first, I figured the server was just busy, but after 4 hours, something should have downloaded by now, right?

A reboot can't hurt.
Ok i had issues upgrading to 2.3.6 tonight.. I realized i had stupidly uninstalled YahooContacts.apk and FMRadioService.apk... As we know Titanium can't restore these. However what I did do was this:
open /cache/recover/last_log in a text viewer
scroll to the bottom, it will tell you what is causing the installer to fail.
Mine i could clearly see it couldn't find FMRadioService.apk I took the .gz file from the titanium backup directory, un-gzipped it, renamed the .apk to FMRadioService.apk and placed it in /system/app I then re-tried the update, it failed again, repeated with YahooContacts.apk
and viola... all was well..
-t
I tried that. The progress bar that was stuck at 0% went away after reboot, but it's still not downloading anything, as far as I can tell. That's why I was wondering if there is any kind of progress bar normally.
I'm thinking that, since I'm at work, our wi-fi is blocking it. I can't get it to download over 3G, so I guess I'll wait until the morning, when I'm home.
BTW, if your phone dies ("Battery Low - Cannot program" message) while trying a rollback to 2.3.5 try the following procedure. It's risky but I was able to bring my Atrix 2 to live:

[Q] Lollipop OTA downloaded, install failed, now it says I'm up to date?

Hello,
So I finally got the notification to download OTA Lollipop today, which I did. Problem is, when I went to install it, the phone restarted, an ERROR screen popped up. I restarted the phone, the update wasn't installed and now when I "Check for Updates" it says I'm up to date.
How can I install the update without side-loading it?

I had the exact same issue but it sounds like a good thing it didn't update from all the issues everyone keeps posting all over the net. Is your device rooted? OTA only works on completely stock devices I read somwhere.
I too ran into this problem. But before i returned my phone to stock i converted it to kali linux. At first i thought it was an encryption issue, so i restored my phone. I still received the error message.
To install kali linux i had to unlock the boot loader, then flash the software. I returned to stock by wiping, flashing stock, then locking the boot loader.
With Xposed not supporting 5.0 I am thinking of stating 4.4.4
I want to stay at 4.4.4. Can't get rid of the Update nag -- and I've tried everything.

I found my problem. My gps.conf file was edited by Faster GPS. I forgot to revert before the OTA and thus my error occurred. I hope this helps.
I'm still getting the same issue after supposed install:
I've had the OTA notification for a while but it won't install. It downloads and then when it does the reboot I see it trying to update then I get the 'Red Triangle'. It reboots again back to 4.4.4
Phone was rooted but still using the stock ROM so I did a factory restore, I'm still getting the same issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

6045i system update build UEA2

Installed programs some no longer work, hangouts for example loads and that's it and other things are acting weird. What about U? My phone is not rooted
Did the same thing with me at first - Give it a little time - and reboot a few times . Seems to be stabilizing now ...
Am I able to get the update if I'm rooted? I recall having read some problems could occur when attempting to update while rooted...

No. Fully unroot to install updates.
Does anyone know what this update is supposed to do. One of my apps - Smart AppLocker Pro will no longer lock my apps. What a PITA!. Haven't noticed any other weirdness. It's great that Alcatel is updating the phone, but i wish they would go to 5.1.

It's stated all over the place here not to do that...If you kept TWRP you can restore a backup or reflash the supersu zip file...if you did not (which is what the previous update did) then there is currently NO fix..you can either send it back under warranty or get with @petrov.0 to help test his possible solution to flash twrp via "download mode". He posted about it in the "my phone is bricked" thread..just do a search on "bricked".
has anyone else experienced problems with their sd after this update?
I did a soft reboot because i found my device was hanging and slow, and then upon restarting, it says safe to remove sd card. i cant mount it and i'm forced to format if i put it in my computer's sd reader.
anyone have any tool that can possibly extract from corrupted sd card? all of my summer's photos are on it.
