[Q]Best ics rom? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi im using mz601 with eos 1.0.0
Which rom is the best do you think?

Too much of a hassle to switch when all of them are pretty stable.

"Best" is highly subjective. I have been very happy with the TeamEOS nightlies.

i saw codename 1.5 ics rom.All comments was good.Like "best rom i have tried".I wonder can it faster, smoother, stable than eos roms.I can guess you will say "if you wonder why dont you try it?".I dont want reinstall apps or doing setting again.
Sory for my bad english

I have tried CM9 Kang, xrazor's AOSP, Team EOS (nightly and 1.0), Bugless Beast and Codename and all of them are great to be perfectly honest. The only reason I'm staying away from Team EOS for the time being is because the media scanner app hates my Xoom. The problem, however, seems to be isolated to a very small percentage of users. Otherwise, it is great. I've found that the AOSP and Codename to be more stable and snappy, but the sheer number of features of Codename have me sold on it. You can customize virtually every aspect of the ROM, from the power menu, to the startup processes (you can have it fix permissions and zipalign on boot), to clock speed, the launcher, etc. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has not tried it. We are very fortunate to have some very good devs for the Xoom and very stable, bug-free ROMs. There are a lot of devices that have a string of betas and buggy ROMs on these forums.

Thank you very much im downloading it now

Good choice. I'm using TeamEOS nightlies without problems. 3G. WiFi, speed, tability... works just great.

Now, im using codename rom.Its faster smoother than eos 1.0.0 but eos rom less buggy than codename rom.In codename rom no 3g no opera mobile browser but i think codename is better rom

I may be a bit biased but let me jump in here. . Me and solarnz talk often on the path forward. One underlying philosophy of the Eos project is we were tired of the same old played out mods. "Oh oh zomg! I can change my battery text color! " (although that's coming ). We strive for fresh new innovative features that add real-life value and productivity to the users tablet. Anybody can clone the cm repo and checkout a device tree. My grandma does that by lunch And because we strive for said innovation, we discover what works and what doesn't. Take cornerstone. Its the buggiest software I've ever seen. But we had it first. And only due to popular demand, we added cornerstone builds for all 4 xoom builds into the nightlys. What other tablet can run backtrack and hack with aircrack and reaver? Innovation. That's what we do. Peace.

I will have to give a +1 to the Team EOS guys. I've been using the tiamat roms/kernels since the very first release and I'm always happy with the work they do.
EOS 1.0.0 is blazing fast, smooth. Has a lot of great features.
If you're a linux guy I would check out the BT5 with aircrack also. Works great on the EOS rom.

I like AOKP (Android Open Kang Project). Lots of features from CM9 runs smooth and are pretty bug free.

[Q] install eos or not

Hello, i'm a new wifi xoom user and i'm very tempted to use the eos rom because of the features it presents, especially the rooted parts. My hesitation comes from the fact that i know what i get, but i don't know what i lose abandoning the stock rom : hardware support, battery lifetime, application compatibility (i read that there may be problem with chrome beta for example), easy update mechanism. I hope some eos experts have answers to my interrogations.
Thank you
I think if you decide to flash the most recent Team EOS Nightly 79 you will be very very happy. If you are currently on Honeycomb it is a vast improvement in all areas that I can tell...the battery life is just as good as honeycomb, maybe even better. The new UI is much cleaner looking and just kinda sharper and more professional in my opinion than honeycomb. I have tried the stock ICS build and the latest Team EOS ICS build and to be honest the responsiveness of both are amazing compared to honeycomb, the window animations and transitions are much smoother and more fluid, the general feel is honestly that of a new tablet which I love. In my opinion, with the Team EOS build I haven't really noticed any bugs and the fact that it's rooted gives it more functionality, you can set the charging light which is a nice feature, and of course if you like you can over clock or undervolt although I find it to be perfect without doing either. Another great improvement is the browser, it opens and closes without any lag, and is much faster and cleaner when browsing, also sites that use flash seem to be much more seamless, same goes for Youtube videos. In my opinion this Team EOS ICS ROM is definitely the way to go, I have been using it as my daily driver since back when the first couple Nightly builds came out and I haven't looked back.
I would definitely recommend, if you are completely stock and on honeycomb that you go ahead and read up in these forums and then unlock your boot loader, flash a custom recovery and flash this ROM. If you took the ICS OTA update, then it's totally just personal preference as to whether or not you want to go with the rooted Team EOS ICS ROM.
In any case, hope you enjoy the XOOM experience as much as I do
Sent from my Suped up XOOM running Team EOS ICS Nightly 78!
Chrome beta works just fine.
Thanks a lot for your answers.
I currently have ics (i unlocked my french xoom to put the us stock rom in order to get it).
My wish to go on rooting is primarly for usb key and openvpn.
I would like to play some games too so that's why i wonder if the hardware support is the same or equivalent as stock rom ?
And does the eos team provides an ota update mechanism for the stable or for nighties ?
Are the same 3 languages available (us,fr,es) ?
Thanks a lot again

ROM choice Help

New to Transformer forums. There's a few good roms out there, cant seem to find what i want though I'm hoping i just missed it.
IS there a rom out there with this list of working things...
ICS
Fully working keyboard dock
de-odexed
no bloat
Aokp/cm features
stable
I'm not really into nightlies..
if anyone thats been around here longer can help me that would be super!
I would recommend Revolver. The extra features will come in time as the dev is working hard at it but it would satisfy all your other requirements.
I've tried Revolver, Codename Android, and Android Revolution HD.
They are all pretty much beta right now but my opinion is that...
Revolver was amazing on HC so I am sure it will be amazing on ICS too.
Codename Android has good features and seems to have a good team behind it with frequent updates.
Android Revolution HD is meh. Doesn't add anything extra that is perceivable. It seems like stock. Yes, it's optimized, deodexed, and all that but so are the other roms. Comes with Maxthon browser that made me go wtf.
Revolver 4 Beta 1.3.1 is really stable. I was running that but jumped to the TeamEOS Cornerstone builds. Can't imaging going back to a non-cornerstone now.

Smoothest ROM?

Hi, Im looking for a ROM that is mainly focused on smoothness. Especially the drawer, (lagging when swiping between pages). I currently use CM10.1 and it offers the smoothest experience, but when using the notification bar and quick settings there is definitely a noticeable lag on every ROM I have used. (EOS, KillRom)
Thanks!
Stock has been the smoothest for me
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1997434&page=93
good rom
+1
The stock rom was the one which has been mostly lag free. But as far as Android 4.2 roms are still in beta stadium I think that this will being fixed on the road to a stable one.
Or is there anyone without lags on 4.2?
I don't know. I've been quite happy with both CM10.1 (my current one) and MyAndroid 4.2.2 (dreamwcli ROM), I just changed to CM10.1 because I wanted to try a new ROM and wanted to use 3g again (my one is MZ601). I changed the launcher to "NOVA Launcher" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDMsImNvbS50ZXNsYWNvaWxzdy5sYXVuY2hlciJd) and put only one homescreen with only a few widgets. That made my device quite fast

Yea I know... I was using WiFi only ROMs because of battery life, but now I needed 3G (classes are back ), and I wanted to try a new ROM. Anyway Congrats on your ROM! I used it for more than one month (I'm a flashing addict, when a new ROM releases I use it, but I didn't feel the need for yours )!

I tried My android a few minutes ago and must admit that it is really (butter ) smooth unlike team eos 4 #144.
But I miss the mostly framework related things I can customise using the eos control center app. Especially the option to choose long press actions for the navigation bar buttons, customisable quick settings buttons and the delay for wifi off after screen off.
Does anyone know a workaround for this?
Still find that 4.1.2 roms of CM are the smoothest out there. Found the latest CM 10.1 and My Android to be comparatively laggy.

The smoothest ROM ever for the Xoom is BAKED build 5 (Android 4.1.2).
I have tried all 4.1 ROM and this was the best.
I also tried some 4.2 ROM (including the latest BAKED build) but they aren't as smooth as 4.1
I'd say it depends on your CPU settings, each ROM needs different schedulers and governor to run smooth...for me EOS4 goes great
I am happy with the latest EOS4 nightly build (umts_everest) and CrossBreeder ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2113150 )

ONLY thing that lags is the launcher with any live wallpaper

I am on it too. Team EOS 3 stable and jb 4.1.1 nearly to latest 4.2, there is no manything to complaint about the steady and smooth, wifi, 3g (my Xoom MZ 601) connect fast and no signal drop so far lag likely zero, there is no big bug insist involved too. I really love team eos because of mention heating fix new issues from end users and go on the new version road android when it office notification from G. They hard working to release new build average on every week I calculated which most better than the older once. I intend indeed want to try EOS 4 with nightlies on 4.2 build. I find out many news on 4.2 but lazy to backup data right now,

Ok EOS 3.0 were certainly the smoothest roms but I'm fine with EOS 4.0.
I've made a downgrade to Stock rom but I went back to EOS a few days after. :highfive:
EOS 3 or My Android 4.2 on Everest
Best ROM is selective there really isn't too many builds to flash and see for one self.
It'll also depend on kernel set up and user program installs.

most stable 4.2 rom?

I've been wanting to give an aosp based Rom a try onthis phone. My main concern is stability and battery life. I know battery life is more of a kernel issue so I will address that later on. I've noticed some roms in original developement don't even specify which android version there based on, but which is currently most stable and 4.2? I need lte calls/sms/mms and camera to be working.
I'm basically looking for what has the LEAST issues. Has any developers gotten past the screen tearing yet?
And I know there are probably 100 of these threads, but none are current
the official cm10.1 by h8rift will usually be the most stable, as a lot of the other ones are based on that (i think). you should basically look for the most recently updated one. that'll have the newest features and latest bugfixes.
you can't go wrong with a bpear ROM, that guy is awesome and has released some of my favorite ROMs for this phone. link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2212825
he always updates them quickly and squashes all major bugs. that one is new so it may have some bugs, but i'm sure they won't be there for long. then once he fixes them, you won't have to delete everything and clean wipe and all that, you'll just have to flash over it with the new one.
bugs vary from phone to phone, so the only real way to figure out what you like is to flash them and check
they are all pretty stable other then known issues. screen tearing is a general issue with 4.2.x roms that use cm10.1 as a base. i would say try liquidsmooth, aokp, or carbon bpear96 aosp build.
Running liquidsmooth Stable and its great. Using it as a daily driver.

Running official 10.1 nightly with vz oc linaro kernel and disable HW overlays on I get ZERO tearing. I put it at standard clock speeds to and its great and very stable. Only time it freezes is every once in a great while after a phone call. Other than that I'm extremely happy.

I'm running the Bpear CarbonRom 1.6 source build, underclocked to 1134mhz and still running smooth and stable.

my personal experience
the most stable tend to be the ones that are more popular/bigger like CM 10.1, AOKP, etc.. at least in my experience. Though I personally love jellybam. I highly recommend it especially if you're a person who loves great audio. Though the only kernel that would work it is Rohan's beta as far as I know
There is no "most stable" ROM. Everyone uses their phone differently, and your mileage can and will vary. Same thing with battery life (and probably has as much, if not more to do with other factors, such as your geographic location and radio).
Its easy to look through the ROM threads to see what specific issues people have, known bugs, etc. Aside from that, just pick some that look like they fill your needs/preferences and try them out.
Since every device handles software a little differently, you need to try it out for yourself and see if you like it. Thats the beauty of XDA, you get to try it out yourself and see if YOU like it.
So since everyone has different options, Im going to close this before it becomes a BEST ROM THREAD... and we dont allow those.

Stable ROM

Hi Guys,
Been running a pretty unstable JB ROM for a while. Need something that is very stable and won't act up. Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

From my experience as a user only, not a developer:
Gingerbread is going to be arguably the most stable, although I would run into strange issues with the keyboard disappearing and nonsense like that. It's not actively developed currently since everyone is into JB ROMs at the moment so there's that. It's also not as aesthetically pleasing as JellyBean in my opinion.
- r.e.v.e.n.a.n.t - Most current GB ROM. Desirable over other GB ROMs because it's inclusion of the Synthesis Kernel by Zen Arcade which fixes a few notable GB bugs like Wifi drain.
- I got tired of the look and feel of this ROM pretty quick and decided to flash an old GB ROM (You can find a list here and there's a post somewhere with better organization) and manually flash the Synthesis kernel which is pretty straightforward.
If you want to stick with JB, they all have similar issues. It really depends on what matters to you.
- Unofficial CM10.2 is fairly stable in my experience. Issues I've had with it always seem to go back to improper flash with Odin or just that my power button is on it's way out.
- SlimBean - I can't speak to the day to day stability as I've just flashed it last night, but I may like this one the best out of the currently available ROMs for our Infuse. The resolution is what does it for me, so much detail. It's also hasn't been updated to 4.3 yet, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
- AvatarROM - Never tried this one, but the sell seems to be good battery life on a JB ROM. I can't get passed the MIUI look myself.
Stability is up to the users usage and needs. As these threads become discussion over which one is better, they are summarily closed.
Please make your determination based on trial runs. Thanks
