[Q] Noob Question ???? sorry :) - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Ok so I've successfully unlocked my 4g slide that has the new OTA and is running the new HBoot. I flashed a new recovery (clockwork 5.0.2.7-doubleshot)..... Hboot unlocked, w/ Son And all is well. Now for my quesion.
From what I've read on the two latest stickied threads (thanks to the aurthors very easy steps to follow, I'll post the proper thank u's in the specific threads after my 10 post cherry pops) I should be able to gain su, and flash a custom rom all at the same time by, updating my boot.img, rebooting into recovery and then flashing my rom of choice. What's the command line to flash the rom?????
I know to flash the boot.img command is:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
But what's the command to flash the rom after rebooting into recovery?
Thanks in advance I rooted my g1 many moons ago and loved it, I've been waiting for some straight forward steps for the 4g slide, and ofcourse xda would be the place to go.

Um im kinda a noob aswell but all i do is power off my phone and hold power & vol down at same time then hit roob in recovery and install rom from SD card then when finsished reboot phone ?? idk if that helps you

humm...
Ok so it sounds like after the boot.img, and reboot in recov., u are just installing the rom from the sd card.
So does that automatically pick up the rom zip file that is being housed in the folder with fastboot, when plugged up via usb to the cpu, or is it actually installing a zip that you have placed the sd card?
Sorry to get super specific with the steps, I'm just so close id hate to paper weight it now.

Yea, you really can't brick it. Go ahead, I dare you to try. So far only one person that I know of has managed to do it, and they were doing something they absolutely should not have been and had to go way out of their way to accomplish it.
The days i've heard about of sub-standard NAND chips and unreliable hardware are long since past for anyone who purchases a quality device on the market today - and the doubleshot is the best in it's class without contention.
But, yes, you choose the option in clockworkmod recovery that says "install zip from sdcard", on the next menu choose "install zip from sdcard" and then it dumps you onto the sdcard and you have to find the zip you want to flash.
Pretty easy, if you already have a custom recovery the hard part is behind you. But no shame in getting stuck or being overly cautious - I am that way by nature and can appreciate the reservations. If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask.

Much apprecitated.... Its been a minute but when I did my g1 I was flashing straight from the sd card, I guess interacting with fasboot through the command prompt made me a little more cautious.
I'm going to go to a custom rom as soon as I get home, I'll post an update a little later, though I may not be able to power up in the bootloader with four fingers crossed <--- a terrible attempt at humor

To flash the rom, you'll want to go into recovery and use the "install file from zip" option, or something like that. From there, you can pick the zip that contains your rom.
Edit: whoops, didn't read blue's post because the text on my phone is too small. G'luck with your ROM flashing

ok so im back, it was touch and go for a second but i was successful, new rom, superuser and the whole nine.
had some trouble trying to flash Virtuous Quatro , i wouldnt mind trying that one, but i did get to load double shot lite. after some additional reading it seems like its a good stock rom, so im cool wit that.... now i can play around with some others

flashed pyro ice 1.1.2 and its pretty sick much better than the standard default rom, looks like now i need to figure out how to not loose so much data on a switch over, had my contacts synced but i lost half of them.
Things to learn:
file/app back ups - for quicker installation of fav apps
reliable contact sync (back up)
how to get this damn browser working...arggh
since i still cant post in the dev. threads to troubleshoot any suggestions or assistance would be appreciated

Titanium backup for backing up and restoring (apps although it can cause problems)
And as far as your contacts go they chould be linked with your google account, but to be safe you can go to contacts> Menu> More> Import/ Export and export your contacts as a vcard and import them in a new rom.
The browser idk. Maybe try clearing data and cache on it.

Thanks mark, your dead on i did a little picking around in and figured out app back up, i sinc the contatcs and exported a vcard.
As far as the browser i think it may be a problem with the stock browser, but from what im told opera, or qqbrowser should work fine. Havent tetsted yet but i will

[Q] now that I have root, is it different to get CWM?

easier perhaps? I read about a rom manager you download from the market...
Thanks to what efforts everyone contributes here, I've found after getting out of soft brick, I managed to get root. And I'm almost happy with the handset, now that I got root explorer to work. It works best as a browser for the 20 gigs of junk on my sd card, I've found.
What I have is the SGH-i727 att branded, returned to stock, 2.3.5, my kernel is 2.6.35.11 also I flashed something in the i777 forum, is the reason for "returned to stock". My handle could be adjusted to "stupidbiker". And I've been properly scolded.
So what's a good way to get clockwork mod in my situation?
And I don't care about a warranty or a counter, or does the counter do other bad things?
And a link for operating clockwork mod? Everyone here can push three buttons except me! LOL I've pulled it off a few times on accident, but I bet in here somewhere there is a correct procedure outlined for operating clockworkmod. A link to that would be way cool.
Wow I'm stupid. K. Thanks.
This is question and answer right? I got lots of questions!
Once I get clockworkmod in the device with all the colors, I'm gonna flash a rom, the ice cream rocket I saw, also I want to test CM7, I'm in L.A. and in the LTE area and looks like I could provide input.
I'm using search, but if someone plants a good link it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

download rom manager, install cwm from that, select tmobile galaxy s2 when asked.
see what I found
First you need to flash Clockworkmod Recovery. Then you place the zip on your SDcard, do a Nandroid backup through clockworkmod Recovery (not necessary but highly, highly recommended... especially if you have never done this before.) Then select install zip from SD card, find the .Zip file and run it and you should be golden.
What is nandroid? I use Mybackup Pro. Same sort of stuff right? I'm getting close to getting my arms around everything....

Thank you for such a quick reply. I am on AT&T. Why would I select Tmobile?
"because that's the one that works"
is an answer I can accept. I'm not fussy just stupid.
Thank you!
I have successfully flashed ClockworkMod Recovery using ROM Manager. I'm so pleased I'm gonna get premium. I see directions! It shows a button for flashing a custom rom that I store on my SD card? Do I dare?
I picked the tmobile thing and so far so good. I got data and just tried a phone call. Happy.
I will follow the other threads now. If a moderator thinks people will get more stupid reading my new thread they may delete it.
I soft bricked
figured out Odin enough to flash back to stock
got root
went to market and installed ROM Manager
turned on wifi as ROM Manager recommended
after a good hookup, I flashed ClockworkMod recovery
Surfed the web, made a phone call, took a picture, uploaded to facebook
Looks like I'm all good.
I'm feeling ready...

apparently they are very similar (but dont get crazy and start installing the tmobile gs2 kernel/roms) - also there is no skyrocket version yet...
but yes cwm does work perfectly from rom manager when you select tmobile gs2
i did this myself the other day... works fine..
just download rom manager, have fun.. good luck
hey ****enbiker would you say your kinda ''noobish'' when it comes to this ? lol I'm just super scared to do this. To avoid voiding my warranty I was even thinking of just saving a check and getting a nexus s to fool around with, but if your new to this and would say ''ALMOST anyone can do it'' I'd say I might be game. I just would like to learn somethings from newer rooters rather than annoy/piss off the Vets!
I have screwed up every phone I got my hands on so not a noob exactly. I am at present using cm7 and considering the new kernel released this morning. What's holding me back is how well it works and how easily I screw up and screen rotation work around is good enough so why flash and set up again... oh I will flash again but just got it all restored back and gotta take it to work tomorrow ...
Yeah pretty much if I can do it anyone can. I really am ignorant compared to a programmer or developer. But not many noobs have broken as much stuff as I have!

I am having trouble getting CWM to boot on device start-up with the Vol Up Key, is this how you do it or am I doing it wrong?
I can easily get to it from choosing "Reboot into Recovery" from ROM manager but I want to make sure I can get in without Android in case I need to do a full NAND recovery.
Thanks

YouTube stutters on CM
Okay after I finally settled in with version 4 I have figured out that version 3 it was okay YouTube did not stutter or jerk, it is this new Da_G's kernel when the video went to hell. I remember the problem appeared in version 3 after flashing Da_G's kernel.
I have not tried any other kernel beside Da_G's with version 4. And YouTube is skippy jerking all to our dismay here. Or there, where ever I was to report this, beg pardon.

I see you don't have to press the power button?
I always begin that way, I press all three at once.
Volume up, volume down, and power.
After it buzzes three times I keep the volume up and down held, but let go of the power button.
I keep the volume up and down held until I see a logo on the screen. Then I let go of the phone and it boots into the scarey black screen with dos writing and you have to navigate with the hardware buttons.
That's how I've been doing it and it puts me into cwm recovery straight from putting the battery back in, every time.
If a true noob is reading this, you're dropping in after I've rooted and then obtained clockworkmod from the market, granted it superuser permissions, and then, after getting past the advertisements, you select to flash clockworkmod.
Also you'll see discussion of not getting a signal and getting an APN. Before you try CyanogenMod or CM7, which is what I use, you take your handset that has a working signal, and download an app from the market called "APN backup and restore" and do a backup of your APN. (not for those who refuse to populate the phone with a chip) (also not for those who don't have a working wifi readily available) Now make sure you have a copy of that on the other chip. The Skyrocket has an internal SD and also an external SD which ATT turns out is too cheap to put one in there when they sell it...
Make sure you have ApnBackupRestore folder with it's xml content on both chips.
Then go to CM7, in the op, get version 4, then go to the kernel thread and get Da_G's kernel, and put them on BOTH sd cards (so you won't have trouble finding it LOL)
And there you have it. Yet another blue collar attempt at helping folks that are smarter than I am that aren't as brave as I am!
Pull the battery, and apparently only hold the two volume buttons after putting the battery back in, never tried it that way! Wipe Data/Factory reset, find the rom and install it, find the kernel and flash that zip as well (install it, trying to help with lingo) reboot, then hook up to wifi, download APN backup/restore from the market (your phone will sync and load it for you when you log in with your google gmail to set up the handset. Run the APN backup and restore app and enjoy CyanogenMod!
My favorite, can you tell, LOL

[Q] Noob needs help after rooting - Stuck in hboot & white screen

Well, I must admit I am in over my head....I have owned an inspire for a few years and finally decided that I wanted to try and learn about rooting etc. I followed instructions using the advanced ace hack kit and flashed cyanogen mod7 rom and I was so proud....then some problems and some bad decisions by me. First, there was some sort of issue with the phone as I could place calls and hear but the mic did not work. Unsure of how to fix that problem, I tried a new rom (leedroid) which was still ok but upon starting I had no service. Clearly, I do not know enough to troubleshoot and I should have read more prior to beginning and this is where I began to get into deeper trouble. After trying to revert back to the cyanogen mod7.2 using rom manager, I have really messed things up. Right now, I have lost clockworkmod recovery so when I hold down the volume and press the power, my only option is hboot and it prompts me "do you want to start update"that goes nowhere...If I begin with the power button only it hangs on the HTC white screen. Iknow, I know I should be searching and reading. Believe me, I am but I could sure use someone to give a lost guy some help! I have been trying to learn and download my original RUU to perhaps get back on track that way...Thanks in advance for taking the time to read!

First try taking out your SD card and using something to connect to the computer and take off the P981IMG or whatever that zip file is called. Then try booting back into recovery again. Also, next time try to not use rom manager and just flash it from recovery mode.

Here is the rooted stock from and radio just place in root of SD (not in any folder) boot up into hboot since you known how to do that let it find it will ask to install volume up for yes let it do its thing then reboot when asked. Make sure all roms and pd98 s are off SD card before you put this one on it. It will give you gingerbread from then you can install whatever custom from you want.
Have and enjoy the learning

Wow! First, thanks for the quick repsonses. Yes, my first lesson learned is to flash from recovery as it seems more direct and therfore less likely to create problems for me until I get up to speed. This morning I am at work, so not alot of time available, but I did take out the SD card and rebooted and I found it interesting (for me anyway) that I can now choose the clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.0 with out my SD card inserted. So, I can see that I messed up something on my SD card. I think when I get some time today, I will download the rooted stock that Reinaldo offered, clear all the stuff off my SD card and put this file into the root directory and let hboot update with this file. I knew I came to the right place for help! Think I will spend the day reading the basics trying to understand how all these pieces work together...
U just have a PD98IMG.zip on ur sd card that u need to get off of it cuz hboot is trying to flash it as soon as it boots up. So when u remove ur sd card, it's not trying to flash that zip so u can get to recovery. So u need to plug ur sd into a pc & move or delete that zip. Or u can just move/delete it with a file explorer once it boots up, of course. Just be careful to never put a PD98IMG.zip on the root of ur sd card unless ur ready to flash it. Then be sure to move or delete it once ur done flashing. Did u download a radio or something?

You're on the right track with your last sentence from your last post. Spend lots of time reading and educating yourself and you will be much better off.
This will be closed soon by a mod there is about 20 threads of the same issue..
My Inspire

Black screen, forced to remove battery to restart.

Hey guys this is my first post here on the forums so go easy on me
So I bought this phone a couple weeks ago off of eBay. The phone was already rooted when I bought it and it is my first experience with a rooted android. I've been doing my best to learn everything I can about all the different things I can do with a rooted phone and I've learned a lot so far.
One thing that's stumping me though is that my phone will randomly just not turn back on after I lock the screen. This happens very randomly and happened to me last night which meant that my alarm didn't go off and I was late to work.
I've tried searching the forum but I can't seem to find a cause or a fix for this problem. If there is any information that I neglected to include, I apologize and will be happy to include that in another post.
Anything that y'all could do to help me would be greatly appreciated!

Ok I think that the screenshot I attached is what you are asking for. If it isn't please let me know what else you need to know. Like I said earlier, I bought the phone pre-rooted so I'm not very sure how use another kernel or flash a different ROM. The whole process seems a little intimidating to me but I would be willing to try it out. I just really don't want to brick my phone because I don't know what I'm doing haha.
You're running a build based of the SDK.
Simply put. Get that crap off of your phone. Flash official stock , a custom ROM or whatever but that needs to go

Ok, thanks. Is this the latest update? Please forgive me for the complete noob questions that follow:
1. I've downloaded the file, but how do I open it and perform the update?
2. Will updating it this way cause me to lose root?
Well first off you should be posting in the Q&A section.
Use fastboot to install factory images. You can download fastboot and the driver for it from the links in my signature.
1. Download the factory image for your device and extract all the image files in it, put them in the folder where fastboot.exe is located.
2. Hold shift + right click on the folder where fastboot.exe is located, choose "Open command window here" (if you're using Windows 7)
3. Boot the phone into bootloader/fastboot mode and connect it to the computer. (While the phone is off, hold VOL+ and POWER).
4. The computer should now ask for the driver, point it to the location of the drivers you downloaded.
5. Open up the file "flash-all.sh" that you extracted along with the factory images with a text editor, it will tell you the commands you'll need to type to install the images:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-crespo-i9020xxlc2.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-crespo-i9020xxki1.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot -w update image-soju-jro03l.zip
I can't remember if this process will wipe your entire internal storage or not.
Now if you want to root, try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479831, although there are other ways to root.
Or you can follow these instructions to install Clockworkmod and using it to flash root: http://dottech.org/25412/how-to-root-nexus-s/.

I appreciate the extensive list of instructions you provided. I tried my best to follow them but I couldn't quite figure out what I was doing wrong. I decided to try to install a custom ROM instead and was able to install cm9 pretty easily. Will this be sufficient to remove the aforementioned problem I was having?
If your already rooted then you don't need to go through a lot of that even.though it was a good walkthrough. If you flashed a new ROM then.you have.some sort of recovery in place. As long as you do a full wipe to get the previous owners garbage off of there and then flash a new ROM like CM9 then you should be golden the new ROM will come with it's own kernel so you don't need to start learning about those until you want to.
If I may make a suggestion, give AOKP Build 4 a try the ROM you chose is good but is using old code (ICS) If you just got a new phone why not put the latest on it.
Keep me (us) posted as we the reason a lot of us belong to this forum is to offer any help we can....AOKP4 you won't regret it.

That works too, you can flash the stock roms here (using CWM) or stay with the custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1843301

First I want to say thank you to everybody for all the help so far. :highfive: I'm still learning but I am slowly figuring all of this out.
Nexism, I would be interested in trying AOKP build 4 if you wouldn't mind explaining the easiest way to do it or point me somewhere that can explain it to me. I don't know what all goes into flashing a new ROM and I don't want to forget something that will mess up my data or my battery life.
Here is the AOKP thread. Its located in the general section.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645400
As far as flashing goes...
Download the ROM from the above thread
Download a good app backup app (I use Android Tuner, it seems like everyone else uses Titanium Backup or ROMToolbox all have free versions only thing you'll miss is batch restore)
Back up your $hit
Boot I recovery (phone off, hold vol up while powering phone on) then scroll to recovery
(At this point opinions differ a bit) I go to mounts and storage and format the following data, cache, system, then boot then back out to the main menu and wipe all factory reset (I'm kind of a neat freak just.like to make sure I'm always starting with a clean slate)
Then install your.ROM and Gapps after a few min main recovery menu will come up
Select reboot
Go through the norm set up
Re-install backup app
Restore your apps
Then play around with all.the new features on your Nexus
Sorry if this is too basic of a walkthrough no offense if so. You can PM me if you need more detail. Good luck, happy flashing.

Awesome, thanks man.
It was exactly what I needed to know - not too basic. I flashed it and now I'm checking it out. Is there any reason I would need to use a custom kernel for anything?
No, only i u find it slow as it is now. If u want a custom kernel go for matr1x one

Glad to here your Nexus is doing well.
Now that you have a good build make a backup (in recovery) so you will always have a working configuration to go back to then experiment all you want. I may get corrected on this but as long as I have a backup and access to recovery mode I know that the chances of me bricking my phone is slim to none. So I am a flash happy fool. I try everything new when it comes out.
Get comfortable with your new ROM and flashing in general and as you see a need try different stuff out.
I use a custom kernel because I use the on screen navbar and I like to turn off the hardware key backlight. You also have control over CPU min/max Frequency, governors, and I/o schedulers as well as some extra tweak options. If you're like me the more you learn the more you'll flash.
Check out NSTools it is one of the must have apps for our phones.
Again, I am available for anymore help I can.offer.

[Q] OTA Update ViperXL 3.2.7 -> 3.2.8 and Other Noob Questions

I apologize in advance for asking what are, I’m sure, obvious questions, but I’m new at all this (started today actually).
Hardware/software state:
AT&T One X
ViperXL 3.2.7
Rooted, bootloader unlocked via this thread
Running TWRP 2.5.0.0
Flashed the boot.img that came with ViperXL, as per this post
Hboot 1.14
First, my question is how do I get the OTA update to 3.2.8? I went into settings->about and found the update, downloaded it, but when I tried to run it I just end up in TWRP. I’m guessing I need to get back to the stock recovery, is there a way to do that without erasing everything?
Second, should I be concerned with flashing radios, kernels or (I think) hboot? Will flashing any of these items erasing everything? I’m not even sure which radio I’m on, but up until today my phone has been current on AT&T.
Third, what is the "WiFi partions update"? What does this do? Ought I to have it?
I have done hours of searching, but I can’t seem to find a straight forward answer to this. If I’ve missed something and this has already been answered, a link to the post would be great and much appreciated!
Thanks for the help!!
1. The device is supposed to go to TWRP to install the update. No, nothing should be erased.
2. Sounds like you're a little too new to things to be flashing radios, kernels, and possibly even ROMs, but since you're already past that step, just tread carefully until you learn a few more things.
3. Maybe, maybe not. If you're not having any issues, don't bother. If you are have issues, try it out.
Thanks for the quick reply!
Ok, if it is supposed to go to TWRP for the update, what do I do once it’s there? All it appears to do is dump me at the TWRP home screen (options for install, backup, recover, etc..) and then does nothing.
Thanks for the advice; as long as they aren’t really necessary I’ll hold off for now on doing anything further, see if I can’t avoid breaking anything .
Well, I’m not having any WiFi issues, so I’m going to leave it like it is.
Thanks!
First I think you'll need to move the OTA zip file out of /system and onto your sd card. Use a file explorer (which has root access, I use Solid Explorer, there are also others like ES File Explorer, and Root Explorer) and navigate to /system/cache (I'm pretty sure that's where OTAs are stored once downloaded, someone correct me if I'm wrong), cut the file and navigate back to your sd card and paste it somewhere you'll remember.
Now reboot into TWRP.
Once you're in TWRP, select the wipe button, this will take you to the wipe menu. Now wipe cache, and dalvik cache. Now hit the little home button in the bottom left corner of your screen, this will take you back to the home screen.
Now you hit the install button. It will then take you to a screen which shows your sd card. Find the OTA zip file and select it. Then swipe to install. Once it has finished installing you can choose to wipe cache/dalvik again (I always do this to be safe). Then just hit the reboot system button and it should boot up into your newly updated ROM.
One thing though: you really need to do some reading, you haven't got the faintest clue about any of this obviously. You would benefit greatly from reading and actually learning about messing around with your device. Going into these kinds of things ignorantly is very dangerous, you could easily brick your phone. I'm not trying to be mean, just telling you how it is. We all gotta start somewhere, just make sure you take the right steps and get a good understanding of all this
Sent from my One XL using XDA Premium
That was what I was assuming I should do, but I was unsure if it would overwrite anything important that way. It actually seems to download the update to /sdcard/downloads (or it did that the first time I ran it). Good tip about wiping the caches though, I’ll remember that.
Turns out that I actually didn’t need to do all this after all…I deleted the OTA file and tried running it again, and low and behold it decided to work! I swear I didn’t do anything different, but I’d been messing with it for a while after I tried it the first time, maybe I changed something relevant (though I was mostly just tweaking sense to how I wanted it)
I have actually done a great deal of reading and looking around, but I’m still struggling to keep all the various version numbers and terms straight. I really appreciate the advice, and I’ll be doing more research in the future (mainly to discover what the other things that aren’t ROM’s do).
Thanks for the help all!
It wasn't showing up because turge forgot to change something. It should be showing up now.
If not just download it, flash it like normal and reboot.
No need to wipe anything

[Q] LG Motion (Possible Cyanogen mod?)

Hey everyone! I would like to start off by saying that I am brand new here, and am surely going to mess up quiet alot... But here goes,
I've recently rooted my phone with a very simple guide, and it's the first device I've every rooted. So I know very little of the process of doing so, (I'm learning slowly).
I also have found a rom that I would like to install, but I would love to know if others think it seems legit? If it is real, I know many people would absolutely love to use it! The rom's URL is (ht tp:// playfuldroidz.com /wiki/ CyanogenMod_10_Motion) (Please remove spaces, sorry as I said i'm new...)
Now I don't mind testing this myself, but being as new as I am at android I honestly do not know how to follow the relatively simple instructions.
(This Is where I need some help, Please be noob cautious!)
Download the .zip & copy to phone or sdcard (make sure 4g or wifi is enabled if dl'd from phone).
Zip can be installed from either internal or external sd in CWM (Which ever you copied it too!)
MAKE A BACKUP!!!
DO A FACTORY RESET!!! - this will wipe data & cache!
Go to install zip from sdcard
Choose zip from sdcard
Select cm-10-xxxxxxxxxx-UNOFFICIAL-l0.zip
Confirm
Repeat Steps 5 -8 for gapps
Reboot
Now my first question I'd love some help with, is how do I perform this backup there talking about? do they just mean my simple go into settings and click backup? Or should I do it some otherway?
Second question: Do they mean the phones built in service of factory reset?
Third Question: To install a Zip from an SD card do I need to simply use ES file explorer, or root file browser? Or is there a custom way to install a Zip file on android?
Fourth and final Question: What is gapps..? Is this something I should get or use?
EDIT: I've got a fifth one also... Thanks to anyone who's stayed this long and is willing to help me.! Will this Cyanogen mod (If working) Work almost exactly like a real nexus Operating system? I've got a nexus 7 tablet running stock android, and I love it! That's why I'm doing this to my phone honestly.
Thank you all greatly!

Question 1,2 and 3.. they are all done through Clockworkmod. Look through the menus you'll see it if you still struggle look on YouTube.
Question 4.. gapps is Google Apps you need to flash this after the ROM to get the play store and all the other standard Google apps.
Question 5.. in your eyes pretty much, it'll look the same but with more features obviously.
Thank you alot!
Thanks! now i've only gotta do one last thing, and see if anyone knows whether or not this website is a reliable source, or atleast if the mod works...

I was just wondering if there's a chance this clock work mod thing doesn't work on my phone? I don't really know how, or where it is either... and I'd love some help with that... Thank you!
(Edit) I don't think there is a clockwork mod for my device... According to the Rom Manager app I was told to use for installing it.

If you did what it said in the instructions *root it, cwm, install custom rom* then after installing the custom rom it has it's own cwm. turn off the phone, turn in back home and press the back and home button together at the same time and it should take you to the rom's cwm. If the phone does a factory reset by pressing the back and home button then you did the installation wrong.
But just in case I'll setup a full instruction for you.
Root your phone.
Which can be done easily, just download this and extract the files: http://www.mediafire.com/?dhdbwflnl1vknx2
once you extract the files put your phone on debugging mode which can be done by going to settings, developer mode, and click usb debug.
once you've done that connect your phone to the pc *make sure it's on charge only* wait for driver installation to finish. once that's done click root. follow instructions on the screen it shouldn't be too hard! after following instructions you should be rooted and have cwm. but to install the recovery go to your apps and find lte 2nd init recovery and then click the top button, agree to super su to use it and you're done with rooting and cwm! now. these files you were talking about, download them and put them on sd which can be done with a file manager. after they've downloaded go to the lte 2nd init and click the bottom button. it will reboot the phone and take you to cwm. While you are in cwm click on the home button to go to external which is the sd, then go to backup and restore, and click backup! this is very important. miss this step and things could go bad. Now all you have to do is follow the instructions you posted yourself and you should be done! if you need any help don't hesitate to message me. I've done this for a long time now.
Whoops forgot to add. the website IS a reliable source. Learned that cause I'm a risk taker and decided to try it out myself. and do not use rom manager or anything like that for recovery. ever. especially on phones that do not have their own recovery mode. also. the CM10 works great in my opinion! But there's a catch. for me at least. even though everything is perfect during phone calls I cannot use my 4g. which is a bad thing for me cause I need it. other than that if that doesn't bother you or anything or don't have service then knock yourself out and install the cm10!
COMPLETED) This mod worked, all things are now finished except one small issue!
So after installing the mod with some great help of someone here on this forums, I've been basically beta testing the mod for a few days. I have nearly no complaints, as almost everything works seemlessly just like you'd except the operating system to. In the end I found one single issue though, which is terribly annoying for me in specific...
My GPS isn't working, which could be one of many things other than the rom. Seeing as I only recognized It yesterday, there may be an outside reason it at random shut off. If anyone know's what can cause this, and a fix for it please comment back!
Thanks to everyone who helped with installing the mod

Please help me with the rom
Hey guys not sure if i am suppose to post this here but i couldnt find any where else and i couldnt find an answer with my exact problem, i installed this rom on my moms lg motion and everything went find untill i got to gapps it came up with an error inside of cwm so i just contined all the other flashes i had to do and rebooted i thought that i could just flash gapps later. But i mad a very big booboo i installed the Recovery APK for it in cm 10 i forgot all about pressing reboot and saying reboot into revocovery so i was going to try it though the Recovery APK so i installed the thing and pressed reboot and instead of taking me into recovery it takes me to a screen that says something like "mourning call error" which i dont know what means but i had to take out the battery and turn the phone back on so that worked and i got back to the home screen but i still cant install gapps so she can use all the google sevices i tried rebooting with the built in reboot into recovery (the one that you press reboot when you hold the power button) and that does the same exact thing i have no way of flashing gapps or anything else for that matter can someone please help me i have no idea what to do. everything i working on the phone but that. thank you sorry if i put this in the wrong place.
Confused my droid using this method- would love in on this thread
Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place-punch me if I have-
I rooted my lgms770 with version f firmware- installed cwm and 2ndinit recovery (2nd init was the only known way (to me anyway) to get into cwm at the time) followed this guide ---
[LgMotion All Things root] and
[GUIDE] Unbrick OR Unroot LG Motion 4G [KDZ] - Android Forums
I am not allowed to post urls yet...sorry...its the the first google hit
I've tried multiple versions of the official LG Firmware flash, from the website, and by following this guide-
AOKP Dirty Unicorns baseless port cm10 - Android Forums Actually, its the unicorns that got me.
With no luck there. I am running Mint16, and had to run the programs through Wine of course, then tried Q4wine, and eventually tried running though Oracle VM, and finally, I wiped my ancient dell of Linux altogether and put WinXP back on it (took 2 hours, that). No cigar. And yes, I did the drivers, all in order, etc, tried again, reinstalled etc
I finally set up adb to try to get into this droid that way, but am having problems with port permissions (I'm going to guess that's on my pc's end-running Mint16)
I can access the factory reset screen (the black and white), download mode, and the battery charges on a black screen with a nice purple font, but I am still stuck in a bootloop. I've employed all known button spamming combos to get back into cwm (there is a nandroid in there somewhere)..but alas...
Help me Obi-Wan-Kenobi's..
Peach
I had the purple letters with no way to get to the factory reset screen i just used the lg online flash tool in upgrade recovery put in the imei of the phone in made sure the phone was in usb download mode then it was fixed but for some odd reason i still cant get my phone to the factory reset option. I apologize sincerely if I wasn't detailed enough if you need any clarification on it then let me know through pm or i could even send u a link to my box folder i keep the install files in.
(Also i have a one click root app for the LGMS770 So if you or anyone would like the link i would be happy to give it to you)
