[Q] ICS auto correct in Gingerbread? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hello, I was wondering if there is a way we can get the auto correct features from ICS on to GB, when using the hardware keyboard. If i mistype a word it doesn't offer a suggestion to correct the word and it also doesn't auto capitalize I's and add in punctuation. I noticed this on stock and also on Bulletproof (current ROM). any help would be greatly appreciated

I use swiftkey, or go keyboard, and both will auto correct while using the hardware keyboard.

Ok I will give it a try because I need it in the messaging app because that's where I noticed it doesn't work at all

[Q] What keyboard do you use?

Curious to see what everyone keyboard of choice is..
I switched back to Swype from Swiftkey because it was easier to use for me.
Swype is the only way to type. I've tried every keyboard out there and I keep coming back to Swype. It runs better on the Sensation than any other device I've used it on.
Swype all the way. Started using it on the HD2 like 5 months ago (don't know why I waited) & v3 on the Sensation is even better!
Touchpal by Cootek.
I use thumb keyboard. It's the Shiznit! I also use it on all of my tablets. Before that I used Smart keyboard pro. I really like all the features and different layouts in thumb keyboard though.

This is my first Android device and I kept hitting the period key instead of space. Space bar seems kinda short. But I've installed Swype Beta and getting used to it. It's so much faster then pressing each letter.
I have the Swype beta but the tracing word predictions isnt that great. I normally use Shapewriter which has fantastic tracing word prediction but terrible typing.
Smart Keyboard Pro.

I use Thumb Keyboard or Gingerbread Keyboard. This is a pack with enough layouts..
How do you change the keyboards on the Sensation? I am having major difficulty. I am sure it is something simple I am missing.
Get smart Keyboard. You wont regret it

Agreed. I type words, not letters.

First make sure you activate by checking the box for it in settings > keyboard.
Then to use it, long press in a text field then press input method.

Gingerbread all day long!
Get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875202
You won't use anything else after you try it!
Keyboards
Started off with Smart keyboard PRO, then Gingerbread then Swiftkey X but I always come back to Swype.
My problem is that with every keyboard I try I activate it (through Settings - keyboard) but long pressing in a text field does not bring up an option to change the input.

Android Keyboard for GB? (Not Multitouch)

So I was wondering if anyone has been able to load the Android Keyboard (AOSP?) on their phone running GB. I like this keyboard for a number of reasons, but mainly the fact that it auto-corrects some words automatically that the multi-touch keyboard does not for some reason.
For example:
- If I type im, it auto corrects it to I'm.
- If I type wer, it auto corrects it to we're.
- If I type il, it auto corrects it to I'll.
I know most of you think this might be a bit silly, but I got used to this keyboard and typing this way before GB, and believe it or not these little shortcuts allow you to type/text a lot faster on the phone.
Last night I flashed my phone from CM4DX back to Official GB, and I tried flashing the keyboard being used with CM7 (Android Keyboard) but it won't work on GB. Not only does it not work, but I have now lost the Multi Touch keyboard and I can't seem to get it back unless I do a factory reset. I'm currently using Swiftkey X, but I still don't like it as much as the original Android Keyboard.
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

This is the Gingerbread keyboard in an apk. You can install it along side your current system keyboard.

Question about voice input on Beans custom rom please.

Just curious, I installed beans custom rom last night and everything works great. The only thing I noticed that is missing is the voice input on the keyboard. I am not sure if I messed something up or not but I was wondering if there was any way to get this back? The option is enabled for it to show up on the regular keyboard under the settings but it is not on the list of language and input devices.
Thank you!
Are you set on the stock keyboard? Im running Beans v6 with SwiftKey3 and its on that keyboard so thats a pretty good option

[Q] Stock keyboard app

I am using a custom rom and I am glad because I hated all the bloatware in the stock rom but the one thing I miss is that "keyboard" app that when you are typing on the qwerty it generated a little bar of suggestions based on what you had typed. First question can you install that on a custom rom or is it like the circles widget and will only work with stock and if it will work can anyone point me to someplace I can download the apk?
Well I think SwiftKey has similar "suggestions" with what you are looking for...? I'm not sure if any will work with the physical keyboard tho.
I know there are other keyboards with predictive text features but the stock keyboard for the photon Q you dont have to have an onscreen qwerty keyboard on the screen to use it. When the phone is open it appears as just a small sliver at the bottom of the screen enhancing the physical qwerty.
Thank you very very much arrrghhh I decided to check out swiftkey despite you saying you did not think it had the specific feature I was asking for and it turns out it does. So for anyone else with a custom rom that misses the stock qwerty companion swiftkey does everything the stock app does and honestly for anyone using stock i highly suggest swiftkey as a replacement anyway.

How to define Input Method?

The Google Keyboard is what I like to use. It's better than the HTC KB in many ways. But every time I have to type in something, the HTC keyboard pops up instead. Is there a way that I can setup the Google Keyboard to be the default input method EVERYTIME?

What ROM are you running? Once you change the keyboard it should stay until you change it again to something else. You can also go to Settings->Language & keyboard and disable all but the Google keyboard if that's the only one you intend to use.

I'm running Skyfall. There isn't an option to turn off or disable Sense input.

I don't know why picking a different keyboard wouldn't stick. I don't use the Sense keyboard either, but all I do is choose my keyboard as the default and it never switches back. I'm running CleanROM right now, but I used the same setup when I was running Skyfall. I guess you could use a file explorer and rename the HTC_IME.apk file to HTC_IME.apk.bkp in the /system/priv-app folder if you really want to get rid of the Sense keyboard. You shouldn't have to do that, though. Skyfall works just like it should on Android to switch input methods. You just go to the "Choose input method" from the notification bar when the keyboard is up and choose your input method. It always stuck when I selected a different keyboard when running Skyfall.
