Well as it says I have root rom manager says version 5.5 or whatever is installed yet no matter how I try to boot to recovery I see no cwm? Am I missing something?

Did you just say you installed CWM Recovery with ROM manager?
Did you try
Push and hold Vol down plus power button til you see words at top left corner
Immediately push Vol up within about 5 sec to get into recovery.
or you could use "Transformer reboot to recovery" app from market.
If you don't see CWM recovery do you see stock recovery?

For the love of GOD, if you used ROM Manager to flash CWM, you most likely have version 5.5.0.4... DO NOT USE IT!!!!
Refer to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530337
Use Recovery Installer found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
That will install a usable version of CWM and save you a LOT of hassle.
Thanks for the help guys. Ill hit the thanks button on both of y'all since I used both . Worked perfect

So did you install cwm with ROM manager? If you did, so a normal reboot to sew what happened.
I did install it through ROM manager first but it never would boot to recovery. I tried booting through ROM manager and all it would do is reboot, so then I downloaded a app to recovery boot still just rebooted thats when i posted the question and yall answered. Hope this answered you question for me

Reason I asked was a lot of peoples have problems with CWM after flashing through ROM Manager. If it's working for you that's good.
No it didn't I ended up flashing the one that the other guy posted the installer for and it worked

I was just about to try updating from NScollab 1.0.39 to 1.0.40 and for some reason my nexus s refuses to boot into recovery. It doesn't seem to exist anymore. Im not sure if it is related or not but my phone became very laggy after my first failed attempt to boot into recovery. I tried fixing user permissions and rebooting many many times but it doesn't seem to help.
What does it do when u try to boot into recovery?
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
It doesnt do anything. It just reboots into the bootloader.
Thank you for the quick reply
edit:
i tried flashing recovery again through rom manager and now whenever i try to boot into recovery it just hangs at the google logo with the unlocked padlock.
Hmmm
Do me a quick favor.
go here:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Ne...de#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery_Image
and download the 4.0.0.2 recovery image and save it to some directory on ur computer
then follow these steps:
1. Open up command prompt/terminal and plug in phone to computer
2. Type "adb reboot bootloader"
3. It will take you to fastboot mode. Now type "fastboot erase recovery"
4. Then type fastboot "flash recovery ____.img"
( ____ is the name of the recovery img file)
5. Now it will flash and once it says "OKAY" then scroll down using volume down into recovery and see what happens
plz get back to me bout this!

Hi,
I rooted my Samsung Infuse and flashed CM7 as explained in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311960
It looks awesome, many thanks to the people who put it together. ( I couldn't reply there since I am a "noob")
My phone boots fine in to CM7 and I can make calls and use other hardware, no problem so far.
I was trying to get Gapps by going to Rom Manger -> Download ROM -> Scroll down to Google Apps. It reboots and ends up at the screen with the white triangle around an exclamation and the android icon. I do not get the ClockworkMod menu. I have to press and hold the power button to reboot normally and get back to CM7.
Am I missing the recovery executable file? I looked in /system/bin and /sbin and it is not there. Should I copy the one I used earlier in to /system.bin ?
Thank you.
I believe cwm can show that when it is working, on some builds you can toggle between it showing the files being copied and that screen with the power button if I remember right.
Thanks for the reply, Dani897.
I am trying to get the Google apps installed which I couldn't since the recovery mode isn't showing up.
Any hint how I can get them on?

Not really sure, I don't run CM7. But if you are using ROM manager it might just start flashing and never enter the menu.
If it is hanging maybe you can find gapps.zip on xda somewhere and put it on the sd card. Then use the reboot into recovery option instead of the flash ROM option in ROM manager.
Why not install the. Apk's instead of flashing the Google aps

Thanks Dani897, didn't realize the reboot has recovery option. Now I have the Gapps installed.
In fact, CWM showed up when I rebooted into recovery mode. Wonder why ROM Manager couldn't do that.

If I remember correct ROM manager has several options, 1 is to download and flash roms, 1 is to flash from sd card 1 is to reboot into recovery. if you use the first two options it goes into recovery but not the menu, it skips strait to flashing so you don't needed to do any more work, it only shows the menu if you reboot into recovery.

Do you happen to know of a reliable source for such apk's?

Good to know that. In fact, I tried the "Download ROM" option which downloaded the Gapps zip and rebooted in to the white triangle screen.
Now moving onto fixing other issues

Hi.
Just rooted my TF101 (B80) using ViperMod V4,5.
SU working fine, got root access and everything.
My only problem is that i cannot enter recovery mode. I get the android with the red triangle.
I press Volume- + power, then volume+ and it says:
"booting recovery kernel image"
After that i get the android with the triangle.
Any idea how to solve this problem?
What you see is the recovery, only it's the stock recovery.
To get cwm recovery, use RecoveryInstaller by Gnufabio. Just look in the theme app section

Yes (I think). I used basic root checker and it says that is rooted. It also ask for super user access for it.
Ok. Solved.
I re-downloaded the recovery installer and everything is ok now. Thanks
I had the issue where I had the constant recovery loop and had to manually cold-boot linux every time. Then I followed all the directions that supposedly fixed that and it seemed to work (I could boot straight to android from power off). Now I can't boot into recovery at all. It just hangs at the Asus logo if I choose "reboot into recovery" and it hangs at "booting recovery image" if I use volume down. CWM shows that my recovery image is installed but there is something preventing it from launching.
Is there a way to format the recovery partition and flash it again? I tried the CWM "erase recovery" and that didn't work.

Same issues with boot and recovery
I am experiencing the same issue too, except I can't boot into the OS either so I am not sure what to do... I'll read the epic noob guide as described above and if I don;t come right there i'll post a thread as my challenges are slightly different to what is already posted.

You have to hold the volume down at boot like you are booting to recovery, but then don't do anything and a menu to coldboot linux or to erase userdata comes up. Just wait and it will boot android.

After being rooted and flashing CWM instead of holding volume down+power.. just download this app from the market. Called: Transformer reboot to Recovery.
The app in your drawer icon is two blue arrows instead of orange and blue like the developers picture.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...recovery&rdid=com.transformer.recovery&rdot=1
Ive noticed alot of people having issues booting with Clockworkmod into recovery or using power down and selecting recovery. (unless its done by hand). That app is a direct way into recovery. Most ROMs ive seen do not enter recovery even when the option is present.
Here is gnufabio, Recovery Installer - flash CWM with a Click
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346180
after flashing use the Transformer reboot to Recovery app i listed above. Ive used it and it works.. i use the app to enter recovery all the time.
I just installed ROM Manager and Clockworkmod on my phone. I downloaded the MIUI ROM and installed it. The phone rebooted but is stuck at the LG splash screen. When I try to get into Clockwork Recovery it just shows the image of a box and android with an arrow pointing to the android. Then the phone reboots... Is there anything I can do to fix this problem? I'm kinda new to ROMs and don't know much about the topic. Any help would be appreciated.
You need to use NVFlash to flash CWM. ROM manager doesn't actually change the recovery partition, so the volume down+ power button shortcut still activates the stock recovery

Thanks! I'll try it out.
Didn't you read the guide on how to flash clockwork mod for this phone? Or did you just hastily assume that all phones can use ROM manager and gave it a shot?
Hi,
I am trying to flash my LG P500 to Cyanogen Mod 9 and the manual I found stated, that I should partition my SD card using Clockwork mod.
So I found ROM Recovery app in Google Play and installed it. Afterwords I downloaded Clockwork Flash using ROM Mangager app and everything seems OK.
But when I try to boot to clockwork mod, my phone is always being flashed into factory default.
I power off the phone, press vol down, home and power on buttons - the phone starts up, an animation of white box and android logo beside shows (with a progressbar at the bottom) - I think this is because of installed clockwork - then I release those 3 buttons I was holding, but the phone simply resets itself into factory default.
I also tried to hold those buttons all the way, until some "DOS-like" screen shows up, but the phone keeps rebooting itself.
The next thing I tried was to boot into recovery using ROM manager app, but it also did not work - I don't know, if it should boot into recovery by itself or I should press those 3buttons (vol down, home, power on/off)
Could you help me, what am I doing wrong?
thanks
It sounds like your phone is not rooted. Follow the sticky topics in this section for how to root your phone. Start with this one:

Once you have root, install clockworkmod again. Then, you'll have success.

no, my phone is already rooted
That's the stock recovery, that means ClockworkMod Recovery did not flash properly. See if you granted SuperUser rights to ROM manager, and check the SuperUser app if you had mistakenly checked 'Remember Choice'.

Dont use Rom Manager.
You dont have recovery installed.
Find some other way to flash recovery.. there are many in this forum.
I suggest you use Rom Manager to download CWM and then boot into cwm .
I suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827723
This is safe for installing custom recovery.
Thanks to Shinobisoft.
Use AmonRA recovery. Works flawlessly for all roms in this forum.
