[Q] HTC phone wiped out - please help - General Questions and Answers

Hi all -
I bought an HTC Touch pro Sprint phone, brand new, original and from the store and have had it for 3.5 years. Today, it froze and was running low on battery. I did a soft re-set with the stylus, something I've done many times over the years and I set the phone to recharge. It instead re-booted and wiped out all my data - contacts, text messages, voice mails, note files, pictures, apps and software I had downloaded. The phone restarted from scratch. It runs windows 6.1. How may I retrieve this data?
I am extremely upset as this information is essential and irreplaceable. I spoke to a computer data retrieving specialist who said it is possible to retrieve this information and not to use my phone till I get help. My phone is also my source of internet access at this moment. I am stranded and writing from a store. I know of this brilliant site - your site - from before, though I've not posted here before. If you can help me, I'd be so, so, so grateful. Thank you!

First of all don't put any data on your phone it will only write over the maybe recoverable space of your deleted files.
I dont know very much about your phone but if your able too connect it on USB as mass storage there is a chance you could recover it with:
Recuva
As i am a newby to these forums i can't post any links so just google recuva and than click the first link you'l get ..
Good luck..

[Q] Recover Files from Dead S3

Hi guys,
My Galaxy S3 is completely fried. Verizon is sending me a "new" one. Phone started acting up the past few days and would turn off on me, I would have to take out the battery and put it back in just to start it back up. Yesterday, phone froze and shut off while using it, took the battery out and put it back in... nothing. Couldn't even do a reset.
Is there ANY possible way to recover or save files that were saved on the phone's memory? Pictures and texts are my main thing. I have everything from the SD card of course, however a ton of stuff that I want to save was on the phone memory.
Any advice on how, if at all possible, to recover some of the files?
I tried plugging the charger into the phone without the battery in, and the red LED light came on. I was hoping this meant that only the battery was shot... but tried another battery and still nothing
I have to send the phone to Verizon within 5 days of receiving the "new" one they are sending to me. Should I be concerned about them possibly fixing my phone, and being able to access the files I had saved on the internal phone memory?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Meliette
Have you tried ADB? I'm not sure if the phone has to be on for that though
Edit: first off, are you rooted? Are you on stock or a custom rom? The stock rom has 2 data backups in place I'm aware of; Verizon Backup Assistant and your Google account. The Google account should restore your contacts and your pictures should have uploaded to Google+. What the Backup Assistant does, I don't know, but I'd assume you can check that by logging into your Verizon Account
Edit: After looking around, the consensus seems to be that you are unfortunately out of luck. I think the steps mentioned above are your only options. Hopefully somebody else will reply with more options/better news, but that's the extent of my knowledge in this area.

[Q] HELP! Can a LG VM670 be rooted without internet or computer?

Here's the situation in brief(please read below for further explanation):
- Arrived in Ireland with LG Vm670 which worked fine for browsing, WhatsApp, etc
- Battery dislodged and phone reset to 1980, no longer can connect or recognize any WIFI signal (is now essentially useless)
- Decided to ROOT but have had to use husbands phone to access GooglePlay and download File Manger, Gingerbread etc on to SD card
- Put SD card into LG phone and nothing is being recognized therefor we're unable to ROOT and ClockSync device.
2 questions: How can I force my phone to recognize the SD files so that we can install these programs, should we be trying a factory reset? Will rooting even be possible without an internet connection or computer access?
*** THANKS to any or all that can shed some light on this problem, we do know what else we can do and I'm desperate for HELP!
The WHOLE STORY (as originally posted in general Q/A): After weeks of general research, trial and error and some despair I have decided to join this forum in hopes of some answers to sorting out my phone. While I will try to keep this brief, this is not a straight forward question and as of yet I have been unable to locate a thread that addresses all of my concerns or questions. Admittedly, I am not as technically savvy as other members on this site so please have patience and understand that I've done my best with the resources and knowledge I have. Here's the issue:
My LG VM670 phone was brought to Ireland (from the US) almost 2 months ago, while I never intended to use it for phone calls it was capable of browsing the internet and that was sufficient. WhatsApp was my main source of communication with family and friends in the states and abroad. I felt very fortunate to have not had any problems until the phone was dropped and the battery dislodged from the casing. Since that happened, my phone has reset itself to 1980 and is no longer able to locate or connect to WIFI or do much of anything for that matter.
After electing to ROOT the phone in hopes that ClockSync may resolve the problem, we downloaded all the files necessary from my husbands phone (an LG that had previously been rooted and is capable of getting online) but my phone is not recognizing any of the files from the SD card. We've exhausted all possibilities, Bluetoothing files and preloading the SD card with Gingerbread and ES File Manager but despite our best attempts my phone can't or will not access these files. Unfortunately, I have no preloaded apps that can assist so it's like starting from scratch but with no internet and no PC, all we're equipped with is an iPad 2 and his LG phone, we're not sure what else can be done with such limited equipment and access. But in the event we can get the applications and programs installed we know how to go about rooting thanks to all the guides posted, it's just getting over the hurdle with the SD card and installation.
Any thoughts on what is happening with the SD card? We know a root can be done without a computer but not if the files can't be accessed so this seems to be the biggest part of the dilemma. With no internet connection or access to the Google Play store is this even possible?
Any and all ideas are welcomed, I just want to be able to solve this problem without having to scrap the phone. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
i dont think you could without internet !

Why no access to a computer? Couldn't you ask to use someone's?

Apparently they are out of the country. Remember you gotta install drivers too
@NoobInNeed - Can you boot to recovery? I ask because you made no mention of it.
Your questions:
1) Possibly... using Terminal Emulator
2) Also possible, if you can boot to recovery and your recovery isn't stock.

[Completed] How to recover an SMS.DB from a crashed phone. Messages from a deceased person...

Hello Android gurus,
I would be VERY gratefull if someone can help me with this:
Short version: A week ago a very good girlfriend send me a couple of SMS messages. I only could read some of them and then... my phone started to bug, install all kinds of cr*p etc. To try to solve the problem I reinitialized the phone, (after making a backup on an SDcard) , tried a hard reset, but nothing. Brought it to a shop but they said "nop, we cannot restore it properly". Finally I bought a new phone. So that's not the problem. Unfortunately, a couple of hours after she send me her last messages this girlfriend died from cancer, and I would have liked to read what she wrote to me. So I have this SDcard where I found a file sms.db which (I suppose) contains these messages. Is there any way to recover what's in there? I don't need it on my new phone. Any format would be fine. A text file or whatever.
Long version:
2 years ago I bought an Huawei G740. And because it had a lot of bloatware on it I rooted it with SuperSU. Don't ask me how, because this was 2 years ago and I don't remember how I did it. I have some reasonable IT skills , but I'm far from an Android guru. Anyway, phone worked fine for 2 years without any problems. Then, as described above, just after I received these messages from her (and I didn't have time to read), my phone was powered off. Don't know why because I never power it off. When I started it again, it started to install all kinds of cr*p. Useless apps, links to porn sites, popup windows with adds etc. And worse, the whole phone became unusable. It kept switching from one application to the other, showing all kinds of ads etc. So I decided to do a reset from the parameter menu (backup on SD card and reinitialise). That didn't solve the problem. So I did a hard rest (Power+volume up) and wiped everything. Same problem. As soon as I start it, all cr*p comes back. So I brought it to a "professional phone repair shop". Next day the verdict was "No, we cannot do anything because of this SuperSU app". And I bought a new phone (a Samsung Galaxy). So my phone problem is solved, but now remains the question : how do I recover the sms messages that are on this SD card???
I would be EXTREMELY grateful if someone can recover what's in there. I can send the sms.db (or any other file that you may require) to whoever thinks he can recover it.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much!
I had a look at the link but that's complete wizardry for me.
I don't have a rooted phone and I don't want to restore all my apps, data, pics etc. I don't want to restore anything on my new phone. Just recover what's in the SMS database into a file (txt or excel or whatever).
Is it enough if I send you the SMS.db? If so how to send it to you?
Thank you
Hi !
I`m afraid that isn`t possible to just use that file on a different device and read the messages , this is not how it works with the android providers files, you can use it only on the same device and OS that it was created before
There are third-party applications which can backup the specific files suck sms/mms/calls and the created file can be used only by that application
The only possible solution for you may be to fully restore a nandroid backup with that file inside and to have a working system
For more info just google it " sms.db "
Good luck !

I need help with a hacked possibly hidden root phone attack & i really don't know muc
I felt my phone was 'hacked', it was echoing during calls, getting really hot, passwords & secret questions on my emails were being changed, FB password changed & picture login disabled etc. etc. I BELIEVE my device Samsung J1mini is rooted HOWEVER somehow hidden cas most apps say it's not rooted but I found a hidden /root file & Superuser was only to be granted access with 'android.permissions', ok explaining it best I can. I also have PC Acer Laptop. USB ports disabled won't charge my phone. ESET picked up a virus but it disappeared b4 I could press Y to delete. Renamed I believe. The top of windows go green when I click in them the same person said Crypto something which he explained as ransomware but I've had no demands & drive has been wiped so many times there is nothing to hold to ransom. I seriously need help. Just bought a Huawei Y9 Elite LYO-02 but it's only 4 weeks old, got a new sim with new number & EXACTLY same things are happening again. So I factory reset it (whilst off) cas a password I didn't put there prevented me from phone factory resetting it. Now I'm stuck on the gmail screen & NONE of my emails work. I've watched you tube videos on how to bypass this screen but no success yet. I asked someone I didn't know very well to help & he installed Terminux/Linux on my phone & told me it was just underneath my phone he accessed, what I now realize is he was most likely setting it up so he could remote control it from his PC or IPhone 6 & he had to install Linux. I hate liars.... now wondering instead of helping he saw an opening & made the hole bigger & this guy does IT. HELP! Please be kind. I wanna boot whoever is in out & take control by rooting phone myself. And taking admin privileges back on my Acer. I am administrator but u wouldn't think so. It's running Windows 8.1.
Urgent replies please. This whole thing is doing my head in. But I'm smart & willing to learn. Someone patoent please Show Me the Light lol
Hi there and welcome to assist,
Unfortunately there is nothing about your question/device on XDA forum. Try a Google search first or contact the manufacturer for stock firmware and flashing instructions.
You'll have to create an account to post in the main forums if you have any other questions.
Good luck

Android data recovery without root

Hi guys,
I am looking for some time now into the possibility to recover data from a data wiped phone. The phone is not rooted and basically stock with MIUI installed (Xiaomi 10T Pro).
First, I tried “normal” windows data recovery programs but with these I am not able to select the internal drive of the phone when connected to the PC just the hard drive of the PC. Then I read this could be when the device is not in MTP mode but after enabling it I still couldn’t select the device. I tried different programs also some mentioned here on XDA like DiskDigger, TestDisk, GT Recovery, Restoration and so on.
Then I tried it on the phone itself with the DiskDigger App, GT Recovery, File Recovery, Photo Recovery and so on. I got the feeling that all these apps don’t really look for data or do a deep search. The progress stops usually after a second with no results at all. Access to the storage was given.
Then I tried different recovery programs for Android I found on google like EaseUS, Android Data Recovery and so on. At least a dozen of those programs. Some of them unfortunately weren’t able to recognize the phone. And honestly, most of the programs look quite the same, have similar stile websites and installers and all claim to be number 1 in restoring. I also read that they scam people but I can’t really tell because they usually want you to pay for a result. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem in paying a price to recover some pictures but I have to pay before I even get a result if some data can be recovered. If I would get at least a preview that something was found and can be recovered I would give it a shot.
Is it really so hard to find a decent software or app that can help me with trying to recover some pictures?
If anybody can lead me in a good direction, I would really appreciate that.
Thank you!
As anyone EVER recovered data after a Factory reset?
As anyone EVER recovered data after a Factory reset? There are so many people who just give blind advice to use android recovery software which actually doesn't work. I have contacted all data recovery they claim it's not possible after Android...
