[Q] Awesome boot animation not working ): - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I was wondering how I would add this file (both animation and sound) to my bootanamation, I tryed using the instructions it gave on the website (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922007) but when I tried to flash it it said instillation aborted???
Thanks for the help
Youtube video- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07SZtsOyew0

Maybe the files are not compatible with rom version.
Try flashing another boot animation for SGS4G.

Correct me if Im wrong but that's not a flashable zip and that's why it isn't flashing that's a bootanimation zip file just push the file to /system/media with rootexplorer or any file explorer and it will work just tried it with Valhalla Black and confirmed it works also I have a thread in the general section on bootanimations I'm making and finding as well so I might put this one there
As for sound I believe we don't have sound support for bootanim yet but again maybe I'm wrong
Thank's aren't asked for but appreciated

erikmm is correct you need to extract the files and copy them to the proper folder.
And yes our phone supports bootsounds.

Make sure zip file compression mode is STORAGE, otherwise it won't work!

Extract the sound file. Convert it to wav format, name it PowerOn.wav, push to system/media. Should work.
There are limitations to length and bit rate so if it doesn't work try to slim it down.

Nevermind.......

Just want to stress the SGS4G DOES support boot sounds and shutdown sounds. Not sure why its thought otherwise. The phone comes from the factory with both. It only makes sense assume its still there. People (myself included) like to have them as its a indication of reboots.

As been said here, bootanimation.zip on system\media and PowerOn. wav on system\etc should do the work.
I recommend the power on sound to not exceed 10 seconds and using JPGs on the boot animation, takes less space...

[Q] Boot animations i9000

Hey guys, I have been told to post this here as I have not made enough posts..
I tried to change my boot animation, by placing the bootanimation.zip file in both /system/media and /data/local and all still plays the Samsung boot logo although with no sound.. So searched through the forums here and everyone tells you that you need a custom rom to get it to work if your phone has the /system/media/bootsamsung.qmg file...
I then cooked a package from romkitchen and installed that but have the same issue, even though I can see the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media/ I can also still see the bootsamsung.qmg as well.
I have only just got this phone about a week ago, so have searched thoroughly, in case I was missing something but i don't think I am..
Can someone help me with what’s going on?
No one able to help me with this one?
Hm you should easily be able to change bootanimation with the rom kitchen.
Remember that you can not change the white text at the beginning of the boot.
I think the files stay there, they dont get removed, just another one gets used if its present, if not the stock animation will be used.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm not sure if this helps, I have cooked a new one today and applied and it said to keep this log incase I have issues.
http://romkitchen.org/logs/G0ceUf3inJ.txt
I can see the file is in the folder, it just does not seem to take affect.
I am assuming that people have got these working on i9000's before and it's just me..
I still have not managed to get this working, starting to think that I am tripping..
All it seems to do is kill the samsung boot sound.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Do you use a stock rom?
This probably doesn't work because your android is not looking for the bootanimation.zip.
Custom ROMs have a modded start up script which tells the system to look for the .zip file.
I am using a rom from rom kitchen..
I have changed it again since I made post above but still a custom rom..

Did you delete the boot animation file out of system/media,&put the new animation zip AND rename it to the same name as the one you deleted?
Sent from my EVO 4G using XDA Premium App
I have tried selecting the bootanimation from RK, and also downloading one from elsewhere and replacing the one that is there.
Both have the same effect..
Weird,I had trouble switching mine too. The only way I've been able to do it is using the app called File Explorer. It's like 10 dollars on the market, but I found it for free. I put the new zip on my card, then file explorer/system/media, delete the boot animation zip, paste the new zip & rename it to the name of the zip that was there. It's worked every time. Flashing a new splash screen is a little different....
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I will try this again now and see how i go..
Just to clarify the splash screen is the white text right?
I am not trying to change that just the colored samsung animation.
The splash screen is the first screen you see when you turn your phone on. It doesn't move, & most often just says the name of the phone. Then the boot animation comes on, it moves & plays some kind of music. Do you have file explorer? If not, don't buy it,I can help you get it for free.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I have Root Explorer that I use to access that location.
I have tried another bootanimation from this spot -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905538
I tried both of the sizes for the AndroidParticles2 and set the permissions to rw-r-r
(Renaming to bootanimations.zip and placing in system\media)
but still the samething happens.
Yeah, my bad,I meant Root Explorer. But it had to be bootanimation.zip take the s off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Sorry typo, I don't have the s on my i9000.
Well that's how I change mine. I did download a particle ring android (blue) and couldn't get it to work right. Seems to me like you're doing everything right. There's one other option I know of. Download a free program called android flasher.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=794638
You should be able to flash boot animations & splash screens with no problem. It is a .rar, so if you don't have the program you'll need to download winrar or something similar to extract & install the files. Google it, the program is free.

3. place the bootanimation.zip file in /data/local
4. place the Android_Audio.mp3 file in data/local (DO NOT PUT THE AUDIO FILE IN THE BOOTANIM ZIP!!)

jejejeje like i mention on my last post this is a FLASHABLE ZIP throught CLOCKWORK RECOVERY.
But if you want to use LIBERTY TOOLBOX what you only need to do is UNZIP the file and you see 2 folders goto DATA then LOCAL and you'll see bootanimation.zip just move/copy that zip file and then use liberty toolbox to finish the installation ....

Try this one, I had to modify the video a little bit and I added the sgt. peppers mp3 to it, it should work.
If you don't like this song, or want to change it, you should be able to do it easily (if you change the song, make sure you call it "sgtpeppers" even though it will be a different song, unless you change the song name in the desc.txt file).
Apply through bootstrap, do not rename to bootanimation.zip.

As someone who pioneered sound on the X, I would just like to point out that sounds work on ANY rom, as long as you do it the right way.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=F7V2IPS4
At that link is a .zip that should help out everybody.
Basically its an empty installable .zip that is installed easily through clockwork. You just need to place your audio file, and bootanimation.zip folder in the .zips system/media folder. As long as your desc.txt is correctly formatted, and bootanimation.zip is done properly then all that needs to be done is the bootanimation.zip in your phones data/local needs no be erased, or change the name to anything.zip.
i have included a file that goes into system/bin that *should* enable sound on any rom. It has worked perfectly through stock, rubix, and liberty..
Basically:
Unzip file
Place bootanimation.zip and audio.mp3 (or whatever you called it in you desc.txt) in the system/media
HHighligt the meta-inf and system folders, add them to archive, or zip them depending on which program you have.
ENSURE you set the compression to store, and the filetype to .zip. Name doesnt matter as this is just the install file.
Put on sdcard, clockworkmod, install, reboot and finally enjoy.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=356483&d=1278555629
that should be a file that allows to to check your animation on your computer, to see if u fudged up the desc.txt (which is real easy).
Just unzip the folder, open the file, bootanimationpreview1.5.exe then /file open your completed animation. If it plays, it will work on your phone, if not, the desc.txt is fudged.
Good luck all

Boot Animation Sound Files?

I'm currently running CM7 nightly. I can't seem to find a post anywhere explaining just exactly how or where, or what you need to do to place a .ogg sound file to work on boot. Also I would assume it needs to be renamed also. Help please! Thanks!

I've been trying to figure this out as well.
Well it used to work pre-ginerbread for me, but after GB now the Startup and shut down sounds are gone. Since CM7 is 2.3.5 I'm pretty sure it should go into /system/media/poweron/PowerOn.ogg. HOWEVER this does not seem to work for me in the OTA GB that was released. It worked before in Froyo but not GB.
in Eclair it was a .wav file and was placed in /etc/PowerOn,wav (/system/etc/ is the same place)
In Froyo it seemed to have been moved to /system/media/poweron/PowerOn.ogg
In Gingerbread It should go in either /system/media/Poweron.ogg OR /system/media/poweron/PowerOn.ogg
I just did two at once and couldnt tell which it was and I'm at work so playing with my phone constantly is hazardous to my budget.
Now that I think of it, I have not had any custom ROMs that have the PowerOn sound, nor the PowerOff sound enabled.
I'm thinking it must be some script that needs to be run?
I know the location of the audio files.
But they won't play.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
There is a script somewhere on XDA called bootsnd.sh. It enables power on sound but not power off animation + sounds I believe.

Power Off animation and sounds are contained within poweroff.apk in the system/app directory. You can decompile, change animation and sounds and recompile but make sure sound files are not compressed.

I checked Cyanogen and a few other ROMs I have on my PC. None have the poweroff.apk file.
I thought that maybe I'd find it in a stock ROM. Lucky me: Stock Gingerbread OTA 2.3.3 Rooted flashable zip v1.0.0
I was able to locate the audio files.
But my question is this:
can i remove all the other files? and leave only the audio files? will it still work?
I'd hate to try and end up spending an hour or two trying to figure something out that I don't know how to do.
(I've read that I would have to "sign" the apk before putting it on my device. I found the intruction/thread for that)

How do you replace the old framework-res.apk ?

Much more simpler to do than explaining it ...
Thanks to tr.supradeep for it post ... if you have root make like this ... it works on all rom and all themes ... better than flashing someone framework.res.apk that can stuck your phone in bootloop ...
FOR THOSE WHO JUST WANT TO ENABLE CRT ANIMATION WITHOUT CHANGING THEME IN CODEROM:
Just follow the steps given below regarding build.prop and probably if there is no mistake then it should work.
How to enable CRT animation:
1. Pull out "build.prop" using adb or copy it to your comp using Root Explorer. Modify it as suggested ahead. It resides in /system/build.prop .
2. Open build.prop and modify one(or two on coderomnexus) of the line.
'debug.sf.hw=1' is the line in the file. Replace it by '#debug.sf.hw=1'. Indirectly you are just changing the line into a comment by adding a #.
3. Now take this file and replace your original build.prop. You can do this by using adb or root explorer it doesnt matter.
4. Now apply any of the themes provided below using the steps given above.
5. Reboot phone.
NOTE: If the CRT animation is not working after reboot then reapply theme after you have modified your build.prop and try to reboot and see. And also enable all animations or some animations in Settings->Display->Animation for CRT animation to work.
NOTE: If you cannot follow the instructions given here please follow the link given below.
Video for Instructions to enable CRT animation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zp6RsSZ4X2w
Credit for the Video: GadgetCheck (Thank you very much GadgetCheck )
Hope this works for all of you.
Any problems please comment. And i do hope many other developers use my theme and make newer or older theme with the CRT animation enabled as i cannot do it all by myself.
Please click Thanks if this post helped you.

U mind giving telling me what files to replace in framework-res.
I got a heavily modded framework that I dont want to loose. It would be easier if I just recompile ur xml into my framework rather than the other way round.
What xml did u edit.?
And any additional files?
Also, is it both crt on and off... or only off effect?
Thnx a million.
I edited res/values/bools.xml
Changed "<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">true</bool>" to "<bool name="config_animateScreenLights">false</bool>"
Hope it helps.

Good work man!
Tip: renaming the files to bootanimation.zipold should be bootanimation.zip.old, same with the poweron.wav file. Or you could rename it to .bak, that is how some of the various apps do it so the filesystem thinks it is a backup file. I think sdmaid will remove .old files when using it that is why I suggest using the .bak extension.

thanks. Right now I'm starting out at android.com figuring out the emulator and what not. Also looking for threads to show me how to take the boot animation and package it up for flash.

Couple of things...
First, while I do appreciate the thanks, I was under the assumption you were going to add this to a full ROM you were working on and not just post it in another forum. If that was the case you could have just linked to my post that I did for this. The reason I never posted it in any other phone forums is that the resolution is set specifically for the Galaxy S Vibrant, therefore may have not looked as good on other devices.
Second, for the sound to work, it all depends on your kernel. I never did one for mine cause the majority of people that use the device I designed the bootanimation.zip for had VooDoo kernels and those do not support boot sound.
Third, if you're wanting to make it flashable you're going to have to learn the code for the recovery system you are using for the phone. I used to have a flashable version of mine, but when codes changed for CWM Recovery, I just figured it was easier to tell people where to push the file to.
Again, I do appreciate the thanks, but next time be a little clearer on what you're doing with someone else's work before posting it as your own.
Thank you

Here is the boot animation and also the theme to the show.
Push the bootanimation.zip to system/media. Rename the existing file to bootanimation.zipold.
If you want the sound push the wav file to ect and rename existing file to PowerOn.wavold. I have only tried replacing existing files not sure if will work if you have no boot sound.
*DISCLAIMER* I am no way responsible for what you do to your device
Thanks to TXLunchbox for the bootanimation
