How would I go about updating my paid apps so they work with 2.2? Is it as easy as just recompiling them with the 2.2 SDK? Or do I need the apps source etc. I am tired of waiting on some devs to update apps 4 weeks later...
Any kind of hope for an answer? I am talking about my own apps i have bought and i don't plan on sharing. Just would like some help. Google didn't turn up much.
why would you have to update apps you purchased? the developers update them, and most of them have already since 2.2 has been out for the n1 for a while now.
Not my nexusmod live wallpaper... its been 4 weeks and not one update to it. I wanna update it myself. Cause i own it and i can...i just don't know how.
not sure what you're doing wrong but I see it in the market for me? is this not the same app? did you run the market fix for the froyo leak that's in the dev section?
Um did i say anything about it not being in the market? It fcs when i try to use it with froyo.
aren't all those LWP's included in CM6? I would imagine you could just install the livewallpaper.apk from it and you'll have them.
it has nothing to do with the livewallpaper.apk... it's not coded for froyo. maybe a livewallpaper.apk from a 2.1 will 'patch it' but i dunno.
and it didnt' work in cm6 either, btw.
I need a good app dev. Its customizable nexus like wallpaper except you can customize it a pretty good amount which is why i bought it. Way better then stock .apks. i might ask stericson.

i agree completely and the nexus revamped pro looks like complete **** no matter what settings u have it on. I realllly miss nexusmod wish the guy would update it.
Hi All, I'm currently running Wolf's Gingerbread rom and absolutely loving it. However I'm not too fond of the stock GB Launcher. My previous favorite was ADW Launcher EX, as it had lots of customizations available, however I've found that since updating to GB, a lot of the exclusive widgets don't show up in third-party launchers.
What is the best alternative to the stock GB launcher that will give me all the available widgets. I prefer the vertical scrolling app-drawer, as opposed to the 'page-style' in GB personally... Suggestions?
I really like SPB shell, It brings alot of widgets. Downfall is it is 15 dollars :\
Thanks, I'll look into that one. It looks like a nice 3D layout. As long as it's smooth, I'd be willing to give it a try.
(makes me wish the google return policy was 24hrs not 15 minutes )
Spb does not support some stock SE widgets like timescape etc. I don't think there are any 3rd party launchers that do, sorry...

Smoothest launcher ever. U can always try a cracked apk .....if u like it buy it. The cracked version won't last as it looks for a purchuse but u can test it for yourself

I did find a 'free' version, but I didn't install it as the Permissions were extensive and it came from an unreliable source. I may get brave and try it out, but having the new SE weather widget and all the rest of the new ones at my disposal would be nice.
I just assume the 3rd-party launchers will get updated with access to the exclusive widgets, but I could be wrong.
I couldn't get SPB Shell to work on my phone. After patching it as indicated in the readme, it refused to open. I might need a different version...
I'm still on 2.1 - getting ready to use WB's rom. I'm currently using Go Launcher Pro. It's been fairly cool and has a lot of features and fairly configurable. I can get the default widgets to work with it as well. I have Timescape running on my main screen, and the power control widget on another.
I will try Go Launcher on 2.3.3 after I upgrade, and see if widgets stop working.
Keep us updated.
Personally, using 3rd Party Launchers on 2.1 (and 2.2 wolfbreak), I had no issues accessing all of the widgets, but for some reason on Gingerbread, only the stock launcher seems to have access to them all.
Is there still no way to 'unlock' all of the Widgets from the stock launcher to third parties?
I'm surprised no one else has wanted ALL of their widgets in other launchers like ADW or GoLauncher.
Looks like the aftermarket has been working hard on Android 4.0 compatibility because I was able to install both the ADWLauncher EX and LauncherPro Plus launchers on my ICS phone and they work fine. I chose to stay with ADWLauncher EX because of looking much more like the original ICS UI and allowing the same folder creation as in ICS. And the dock looks much the same. The only drawback is the lack of the search bar at the top. I prefer it.
Usability wise, these launchers completely smooth out ICS to buttery goodness. ADWLauncher EX allows for scrolling speed adjustment that makes a quick flick a pleasurable experience, no lag to be suffered anywhere. Both launchers bring back the more desired widget choosing function of previous Androids...tap & hold on homescreen.
It's really pleasing now. You get the functional goodness of ICS (excellent multitasker, softkeys and all that ICS brings performance-wise without the troubling UI performance issues.
Oh, and you get to use the OEM scrollable widgets.
Oh dear... And now you're back to liking ICS. You're quite impulsive with your opinions, what will it be tomorrow?

I have a great setup on an Evo I modded for someone with Launcher Pro skinned to look exactly like ICS, on a CM7 ROM with Theme Chooser set to an ICS theme. It looks and feels amazing.
I don't think I will ever use stock launcher on an aosp device, it's so funny how 3rd party launcher guys make it so much smoother than google does.
ICS as an OS, although I like it, is starting a trend I don't like as "user friendly" to the point where things are harder to deal with. I actually prefer GB style widget adding instead of the HC sort and ICS sort where you swype the dock to get to the widgets. Other things like that. I don't know, maybe I just need to get used to it.
This should go in your other thread about ICS being a letdown, rather than starting a new one. Would you raise that for a mod please?

Duhh..i thought the biggest new thing about ICS would have been the ability to have a decent experience out of the box, knowing that i can change the launcher doesn't impress me much. Tbh 2.3 had already nearly all of the functions i needed, what i really wanted was a smoother and simplified ui, with less workarounds to be used, and at the end of the day it doesn't seems like ICS is really bringing that stuff to the user. Just my 2 cents.

I tend to agree, I like 2.3 with a custom launcher over 4.x with stock launcher any day.
I just did a clean install of Android 4.0.3 on my HD2 and the difference is night and day. It is sublime. So buttery smooth and fast. The Galaxy Nexus is now back on the table and a wanted piece of hardware.

Not with the stock UI. It approaches iPhone smooth, but not WP7 smooth. But I am using ADW EX launcher and with that, it is WP7 smooth. I was using ADW on 4.0.2 and it made ICS very usable. But with 4.0.3, the difference is spectacular, to put it modestly.
Wish we could get this for Samsung Tab 10.1's already.
I'm liking the stock launcher. My Nexus runs like a champ.

Yeah, the stock launcher is really, really good. The best stock launcher of any of the Nexus'. I just find more convenience with ADW and it looks almost exactly the same...configured the right way.
I'm a huge fan of how smooth ICS is, regardless of the launcher. I've not messed around with Honeycomb too much, so going from Gingerbread to ICS is a huge jump for me in terms of appearance and performance.

Its not because of changes in adw then? Would love to know what they changed to make the difference but glad they did it.

It dawns on me that the quality and pleasure I'm experiencing now could be something entirely to do with Tytung's efforts with his custom ROM rather than a reality of the 4.0.3 OEM.
ADW is exactly the same between the two version. I can't see them making any changes from one to the next in such a short period of time. Not saying it's impossible, just saying unlikely. With this custom ROM, I actually updated to 4.0.3 initially rather than do a clean install. Even with an update 4.0.3 was noticeably smoother. Only until I did a clean install did I experience the speed and buttery smoothness of 4.0.3. It is a dramatic difference.
Well, you can even try GoLauncher on ICS and it'll be buttery smooth too, whereas in Gingerbread it's nowhere near the other launchers in terms of smoothness(Unless you own a 1.6GHz Galaxy S II ).Hardware acceleration does good after all.And some under-the-hood improvements in 4.0.3 are what makes it as good.Wait for some proper roms and you'll see(Not that Tytung's rom or any other ICS rom isn't good, but none of them is final, rather something like being in beta phase).

I know CM9 is still in dev, as well as the theme engine, but I was wondering if there were any themes in development for it...I personally like the look, but since it's my wife's tab, she was looking to have more of a pink-colored theme.
None yet. Your assertion of the current situation is correct. Once it improves, we'll start seeing themes rolling in.
Peace,
C.
You can always install Go Launcher Ex, a free theme app on the market, there are loads of themes on that and afaik its completely compatible with CM9, I'm using it without any problems so far.
Just as a thought, I'm not sure if it is in fact compatible with the Galaxy Tab, its just a thought though!
Good luck
It works beautifully & my wife loves it! Thanks!
You mighy also want to try Go Launcher HD, runs perfect on CM9!
Well for me 260 is the most perfect launcher for me,light and easy to use

When I use Go Launcher Ex on the latest CM9 ROM(20120330), but the response of Go Launcher is a little bit slower the default launcher, even I need to push home key with few times to get response
rom updated to cm7.2 stable and deodexed. nothing else changed, as the vibe i get is its pretty darn good as it sits.
this one was easy, its the cm7.2 stable base, with stuff added on top of it. i tried out ra3al's xperia home replacement, and boy was my mind blown. its just elegant, plain and simple. and it runs pretty good on our hero's too.
things added:
xperia s launcher and widgets from ra3al
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1557091
xperia s boot animation
and i added the default wallpaper from ra3al's wallpaper pack available in his app's thread, and added xperia s fonts.
im not a developer, i just borrow things i think are mind blowing. if you want and see fit to, please find donate links for ra3al. he is a real dev, and is insanely talented. all praise to him and other devs.
this is cm7.2 final for our heroc's straight from cyanogenmod, so if something doesnt work that is not related to the xperia apps or theme, please ask cyanogenmod.
everything should work, except for an already known about bug with the tools widget. the brightness setting will fc, and its because i havnt had the chance to sign all of ra3al's apps and this rom with the same stuff. im looking into it.
i suggest using an app such as script manager and using a script such as v6 supercharger to supercharge rom and bulletproof launcher.
also please flash a gb gapps package after installing
now for the download link:

happy flashing!
and if you have any feedback, requests, etc, please let me know
Will test tonight report back later

Same here. I saw this ROM on my HTC Evo Shift, I tried it and the widgets didn't work. Hopefully our heros can top that! I do miss the trackball from my hero though. Very helpful in Clockwork! I'll post back when I try it out when I have time!
Running smooth. Really like the launcher and animations. Probably going to keep it till my upgrade in July.

Thank you so much for bringing this smokin' port to the HeroC. I have tried CM 07 previously but this version seriously rocks our lowly Hero!!!!!!!!!! By far, hands down the best ROM I have run on this device...smooth and fast and I have encountered zero issues running this as my daily on Sprint!
sorry it took me so long to respond but im absolutely glad you like it nukeboy
May I ask what have you've changed/added except the launcher? I want to do a same project using the launcher, which is a great app with mind blowing animations, and porting will be time consuming instead of just making my own mod.
Cheers
hey 1ceb0x
i added the launcher and all the associated apks to a clean fresh copy of cm7.2rc3 (which by the way i need to update this so its cm7.2final)
link to launcher and widgets download: http://boekenhuis.net/xperia/xperia_s_home.html
i messed with framework-res.apk and changed out the default wallpaper also
for boot animation, i found an xperia one on google somewhere, cant remember the link off hand
and i replaced some fonts with xperia ones i found through google search (can remember link either).
hope that helps.
The smoothest rom yet!
However, programs sometimes take a long time to load: gmaps, browser, and slacker. I'm assuming these programs expect a faster phone?
I'm not sure, but it seems better than other roms.
yeah some things will be a little bit slow, the pace of android is almost starting to leave us in the dust.
glad you like this rom, and when i get a chance ill update it to cm7.2 final and reupload
Giving this Rom a go. Install and boot went well. Pretty fast 1st boot up. Started up the Market and took two or three times to get to initial screen. Been searching for a couple apps but it seems to stick in loading cycle, and rebooted a couple times but still struggling to find any apps from search as they continue to stick in Loading. Appears to be quick and responsive with touch and movement so far. OK after about five minutes the app Titanium Backup finally came up.
hey cheyennemtn,
glad you like it. those market screwups could have been the market updating, as the gapps usually offered are not exactly bleeding edge.
for titanium backup, i dont personally use it so i can attest to the speed or lack therof on hexperiac, but it could be due to the fact that the heroc is getting older by the day and many programmers are leaving us in the dust left and right.
thanks for testing! if you have any suggestions, feel free to let me know. im gonna update this when i get a chance to cm7.2 final, so that might make things move a little smoother also.
Cool
Finally installed gapps!
Great Rom
Anyone who stills owns the Hero has to try this Rom. Extremely smooth once everything warms up. Use it with V6 supercharger and it is awesome for a device that is as old as ours.
as a wifi enabled device only
i love going back to the Hero and checking out new ROMs. good work on this one, fun! i primarily use it in airplane mode (with wifi on).
i'm kind of surprised no one has put out (that i've seen) a ROM that removes the radio, dialer and messaging apps. i wonder if i could remove the apps with titanium without screwing things up. no big deal but it would be nice to not see the No Service message.
