Best Rom with Battery Life? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
What is your best Rom which have a good battery life?
Thanks!

you need to try yourself, because it depends on your kind of usage.
however, you can look around the forum, there are some very nice threads benchmarking the different roms/kernels/governors/etc...

For me it's nuhetri-reloaded + Air Kernel 3.4.5 using smartassV2+noop scheduler

This is my current set up (check signature). Its been the best so far with battery. I can leave my phone off for 6 hours and loose 1-2%. The performance is pretty damn good too, very smooth and quick
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Build 27)
Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Lionheart)
Live OC 105

Seems like air kernal is quite popular atm.

if you want a Gingerbread ROM then do koush's ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1091153
But if you want an ICS ROM then do SLIM ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495652
Just dont mess with the kernel.... I used the GB rom awhile and now this ICS rom... both get all day life and I use about 3 hours a day of surfing the web, about 2 hours of playing music and some games. Both have great idles that dont suck up battery life. Just be careful of some apps that drain batteries.... so try then bareboned then try with the apps you want. There will be a difference so play with the ROM to see what is best for you and ur usage.
Just use the notification bar to turn off internet, wifi and gps when not used.
good luck

I get pretty good battery life with vhgomez Lota r1 + Matr1x cfs 17.5. Averaging about 15-16 hours with medium use(about 2 1/2 hours screen on time).
Usually at 200/1000 with Deep Idle and either SavagedZen or Lulzactive.

I must say...BuglessBeast is treating me EXTREMELY well so far...I start my day at 4:00am, I don't usually plug in to recharge until around 10:30-11:00pm....
Very good lifespan... before custom ROM, I was recharge before dinner almost every day.
I'm VERY pleased with this ROM.

[Q] What kernel would you recommend

Okay I'm planning to buy this phone and decided I am going to use CM9, just wondering what kernel I should use stability and performance is key, I don't mind battery life I can cope with charging every night as I do this now with the worlds worst phone (iPhone 3G) fully charged this morning (8:00) now 30% (17:15) all I've used it for is a little browsing and at most 2 and a half hours of music at mid volume and sent a few texts. So to wrap this up what kernel would you recommend stability ranks higher than speed but speed is important battery mind I can cope with as long as it is better than my iPhones :') If anybody already has CM9 post some screen shots :')
either franco or glados will give you the best of all worlds (performance, stability, battery). i'm not partial to either, i just flash whichever was updated more recently.
Trinity kernels

I'm sticking with Franco's since it's done wonders for me on GB.
Using it on ICS now and it's stable and fast.
Greetz
i haven't try ICS yet, but in GB i suggest FRANCO , it's damn good
about battery , it happens to all smartphones ...
only you thing you can do for hard usage is buy an extra battery or extrenal power , thank god our phone's battery is replaceble not as iPhone which is UNreplaceble...
I like mathkid. I used franco on gingerbread but i feel mathkid 11.5 ics is better on ics

Hmmm, what's it like on the performance & stability side?
i think franco's kernel is good ..
Franco Kernel hands down.
He frequently updates his kernel usually on a weekly basis as of now and contains all of the power saving tweaks (Lazy Govenor, DEEP IDLE, BLX, TouchWake Live OC ... this guy is good) created by the creator of the GlaDOS kernel Ezeekel.
He does not have any debugging tools running in the background (as other kernels do) for optimal performance.

[Q] Battery saver kernel for Sensation

Hi!
Ok, i'm not good in writing especially in english so here we go
From all kernel that has been released lately, which one do you recommend for having the best battery life in term of standby??
My opinion is Sebastian's kernel in ARHD 6.5.1
it gave me mostly 2 hours for 1%
but i have new problem now cause i flash ARHD 6.5.3 and then restore boot from 6.5.1 NAND back up and now my wifi gave me error
(but this is my problem, not yours )
Come on guys, give me your opinion
I'm currently running Hyper NonSense with the default kernel - I think it's Faux that's cooked into the ROM but unsure of this. Between the ROM and the kernel, I'm getting the best battery life I've seen with this phone. Easily have 30-50% left at the end of the day with moderate use; haven't actually benchmarked it more carefully than that.
Any update on this? My sensation doesn't even last a day...
Best kernels right now are Faux kernel
Sebastian FM
Bricked kernel
I myself have found that bricked uses the less battery, but try them yourself and decide which suits your needs.
I'm using Faux right now with HyperNonSense and I would say it's a good balance between battery saving and performance. One thing to keep in mind is that the higher you OC the more juice it'll drain. So far I've always capped my CPU to 1.24Mhz and I've never had an issue with performance. During light use I can get more than 30 hours in a full charge. If it's a moderate use, I'm still able to touch 24 hours. Oh yeah I'm using Anker 1900mAh.

What's your best Rom/Kernel combo? NS4G

I'm looking for a rom/kernel combo that's good on both battery and performance. 2.3.x is preferred but 4.0.x will do. Thanks in advance!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a serach. In the past month there have been about 15 threads with the nearly identical title!

How hard is it to experiment? Seriously.

if you want better battery life, get a bigger battery. all those tweaks might get you 5-10% more battery life and some cause instability. they also tend to have a hit on performance, so I'm quite sure you won't find anything that covers your needs. The best battery savers are: You not using your phone constantly, not having installed any misbehaving apps, being in an area with good network coverage, apps not syncing or trying to access your location every 5 seconds.
So if you want something stable that works, get a ROM that's close to stock (OR CM) and use the kernel with the fewest tweaks, don't OC, don't UV (both useless IMHO). Otherwise flash ubersuperOMGItweakztheshitsoutofthisphonROMv17 with air kernel.

I beg to differ with your first statement. On GummyNex I could pull in the 6 hours with 3G with the settings in my signature. Same settings on Paranoid get me just in the 5 hour mark while using 2G. That's hardly 5 or 10 minutes. On every other ROM I've tried o struggle to get in the 5, even 4 hour mark.
Also my performance is pretty good, can't complain. Gaming with incredibly heavy games is iffy, but light heavy games are fine. Max Payne would be wonky at times but Shadow Gun is smooth.
(When I say with 3G or 2G on, I mean that's the type of data I would use. Not that I had it constantly on. I do use it a lot though. I'd say 4/5 of the phone's usage.
But yes. The things you listed afterwards are very true.
And getting an extended battery would be best.
Nexus S (GMS i9020a)
Paranoid (1.6 - 4.0.4)
Matrix Kernel (CFS - 20.0)
Ondemmand (800/200)
Deep Idle (Off - Noop)
Live OC - 100 (400/800)
BLX - 98 (Inverted Apps)
6h is quite a long time . But I believe you... what I wanted to say is that most of the time, battery life is limited by the hardware and your usage. Most tweaks do more or less nothing, and the ones that do change something don't work on all devices because they push the hardware to their limit. If those tweaks work for you that's great, but they don't have to for others. My phone is limited to 4-5h of screen on time, I guess mostly because my phone can't handle UV and I have an SLCD, which means I won't save power on using inverted apps etc.. But I can easily get through the day so I can't be bothered tweaking the **** out of my phone .

Best rom for battery life

Hello guys,
as for me the most annoying part of a smartphone is running out of battery when there is no chance to recharge, I want to collect your experieces with different roms concerning battery life.
WHich rom gave you the longest battery?
Cheers
There are many factors not only the ROM.
It's the kernel you flashed, it's the settings you have chosen... and at least it's your daily behavior with your phone....
Usually you have a better battery life with custom kernels...
HTC One S (4) | RootBox 4.2.2 | S-OFF

as it was answered
custom kernel with feature as ability to set minimum CPU frequency and probablly voltage control
and U'll have to try some of them in order to find out the wright one
Longest battery life i get with stock rom so far (around 20h with moderate usage)
for custom roms:
Best battery life gave me PAC-Man rom with bubbav4 kernel - which was almost like stock.
ViperOneS had the worst battery life for me.
just try some roms and kernels, it also depends on how you use your phone of course.
in my experience, 4.2.2 roms have the lowest battery life ~3.5 hours screen on + wifi on (active Web surfing) with auto brightness.
Viper rom 2.1 ~4 hours
aosp 4.1.2 (cm10) and viper 1.2.1 ~4.5
very rough numbers obviously so no one roast me. remember I'm talking about total screen on time as reported by the battery app.
The newer jb 4.2 roms are very popular and have a lot of great features, but if battery is your thing, try out some of the older android and sense roms.

For me it was pretty much a tie between Liquid Smooth with Bubba Kernel(OC to 1890 for heavy periods, 1134 for light usage, and complete collapse of the CPU when the screen is off) And Viper One S with the Stock Kernel. Like everyone said though you'll experience wildly different numbers depending on what settings you use and how much
Viper has always had phenomenal battery life.

Complete collapse of Cpu when screen off? Is that pm sleep mode 1 or 0?
Thank you very much. Unfortunately my phone jack is broken so I cannot test your configs, will report after repair though.

There's a setting on through Android Tweaker that gives you the option to control how the phone deep sleeps basically

[Q] Battery Life?

Which radio are you gents getting good performance with decent battery life? I'm kicking around T989UVMC6 and it seems to be more power hungry but perhaps its just my area. I don't think this is very good battery life as I've barley used my phone today. I'm considering buying the battery for the nexus as it has a little more capacity and I've read it fits but I'm waiting on confirmation.
Anyways..I'm testing slimbean 3.1.0 build 3 with the T989UVMC6. I'm thinking of trying the LV kernel, what governor and I/O scheduler are providing good results for you guys?
And this battery: EB-L1D7IVZ

As of now. I am using CM10 latest nightly. Using Bluelightning X2. SmartassV2 and SIO. Overclocked to 1728. Minimum is 192. Getting decent 16 hours of battery life.

Is this the one your referring to? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025488&highlight=bluelightning+x2
You running the standard JB one and not the GPU OC one? You seem to be playing with all the roms and kernels to..how would you compare it to LV kernel. Also, what radio are you using? Does it seem like my cell standby time is high in that screen shot? I have only made two phone calls and had the screen on a few times for a few minutes today. The phone was at 100% at the start of the morning and has been very idle so i'm surprised to see it so drained.

On page 5 on that thread is the link for X2. Flash X2 then the GPU OC Zip.. Using UVMC Radio. Haven't flashed LZ in a while so i don't know.
I'm using BlueLightning with Conservative and SIO, minimum frequency is 348 max is 1188. It's not the best combinauon if you prefer performance, I get about 18 or 19 hours of battery life I'm also using the same radio as you BTW .
