Hi all
This is probably a really obvious question, but here goes.
I have a Xoom.
I have a HTC Desire S phone.
I want to USB Cable Tether my HTC Desire S to the Xoom
I already have 1 x USB OTG Mini-USB Male to Female USB cable connected to the Xoom.
So ..... to correctly OTG connect to the HTC Desire S to the Xoom:-
=> does the lead going from my phone to the Xoom Female OTG USB cable also need to be OTG ?
or
=> can the lead going from my phone to the Xoom be a standard NON-OTG cable ?
Thanks,
Ben

Hi llama-power
Wow ...... I had *assumed* that the cable running between the 2 devices had to be fully / completley OTG compatible.
So basically, as long as the cable hanging out of the Xoom is OTG compatible, then I can use a stock standard NON-OTG cable to run from it into the phone ?

If you plug your OTG-cable into your xoom, it (the xoom) will behave like a regular pc. Thus, whatever you plug into that OTG-cable can be as stock as it gets...
Hi llama-power
Huge thanks - first time I've had it explained so easily and simply that I understood it clearly.
Very much appreciated and all the best,
Ben

as a side note it should charge your phone up too! so you only need one charger to carry round (The Xoom)! XD

But not at the current that your dedicated charger would supply, thus you'd have to charge a LOT longer...

I always though the contacts have different configs.
Yeah, but a standardised micro usb will be the same between makes and models.

Yes, and thank you EU for mandating this from mobile phone manufacturers. Standard charging and data cable finally.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I've used the USB-socket adapter and cable from my kindle to charge my DHD
and my old Nokia CA-101 to charge both my kindle and my HDH via my PC
and i've used my DHD usb cable and adapter to charge my kindle... >_<
Sort of mix-and-match recharging solutions... (no bangs or meltdowns yet...) ^_^ lol
That's why standards are made ;-)
I would recommend to grab some Mini- to Micro-USB-adaptors as well (one for the wallet), because it broadens the possibilities to charge/connect your DHD with the (momentary) more common Mini-USB.
nice ......................
Yup, I had to take a cable to work to charge the DHD, so I accidently took the Nokia one and only found out once I was at the office. But since the connector looked the same, I thought I'd try - worked !
Thank God we are going to have a single type of connection for all mobiles soon....
Dear all,

make sure your usb extension is usb 3.0 compatible. The transformer uses the extra pins for extra power.

Hi, this my first post, I´m running AtrixperiaV4 now, and when I connect my phone over hdmi to my TV I can see the webtop interface but I can´t get the keyboard and trackpad on my phone display...I searched on the main Webtop thread, but I couldn´t find or interpret a solution, I´ll apreciate your help.
Thanks
Alessandro.
You'll need to plug in your own USB keyboard and mouse to your phone.
To do this , use an USB OTG (A male microUsb on one side and a female full sized Usb plug)
You'll also need a POWERED Usb Hub.
Hope this helps
Bluetooth works also.
Sent from something off of star trek
Thanks!!
Thank you very much for replying guy´s , I´ll follow your suggestions.

Hi, I connected my keyboard and mouse with this method, but does not work, I used the OTG cable and powered hub and I saw in the display that it charge the battery , I've also tested with a "Y-USB cable" and the oem charger with a standard hub without luck, anyone can confirm if the atrix 2 Kernel supports USB-OTG ?
Thanks,
Sorry for the (very) late reply.
Since you are running a custom ROM, i'm not that sure whether the kernel supports USB OTG, but i'm absolutely sure that the stock rom ( both 2.3.6 and 4.0.4) supports USB OTG
Sent from my Motorola Atrix 2 MB865 running 4.0.4 stock using XDA app
Generally its a bad idea to try use your phone with phone specific features with a Generic-built rom (like CM).
In short, you want the atrix with atrix features, use a proper atrix rom.
Hello,
I think I found a cheaper alternative to Lapdock, but IDK if and how this can work or not.
I found something with external power here and I'm wondering if we can attach a mouse/keyboard with it.
Thanks in advanced,

It should work as long as you have an OTG adapter or cable that shorts pins 4 (the ID pin) and 5 (ground) that would then connect to the powered hub. These can be bought pretty cheap or just make one with a spare cable. The phone needs to know it is in USB host mode (shorted ID to ground) and there needs to be external power for the peripheral devices.
I just recently bought this , this, and this. The hub has two usb's: one for the phone, which has the otg cable, and the other for power (which I connected with the extension cable). You can then use your regular usb wall charger. Everything works great (attach any usb device you like) and when you attach a micro HDMI to regular HDMI cable to a TV/Monitor, you got yourself a computer like setup. I haven't tried it, but I think you can even attach external storage to it as well.

Actually, I used it on stock 2.3.6. As far as I know, that's more or less all that the the laptop docks are (with some added signal to know to use webtop when connected).
Okay, since this part of the Note 8.0 section is dead, I decided to revive it a bit on an USB cable I upgraded to. It combines the versatility of Apple's megnetic power connector and USB C plug reversal capabilities. So plugging in you USB cable is much easier and does not degrade your USB connector over time. It is the most awsome accessory I ever bought for a device, and has 2.0 Amp charge current capabilities to boot!
Now for the built in bonus item... it has a charge LED to let you know it is either charging or not. No need to wake the device to see if the device is charged. As you all know Note 8.0 devices have no charge LED indecators.
Now the big big big bonus... the cable is cheap and has free shipping. It cost me $6.00 US and came from China via Amazon. There are a few similar devices on Amazon so look for the silver version not the white or what ever.
how can you upgrade USB 2 to USB C?
Did you hacked the hardware physically?

The cable does everything I have stated. Has reversable connection for both charging and data. The head has circuitry to properly connect the pins without any fuss. The only thing it will not do is high speed usb 3.0 or better. Wish this was a stock option it would have saved me tons of money with oem and high quality replacement cables krapping out on me.
Sorry, I really don't understand....
Could you please post a photo of the cable?
Thank you....

its not real USB-C.... but nice one, I could use it for my Note 8.0
