Hi everybody, i wasnt sure whether to open this subject here or in "Android Software Development". sorry if i was wrong, and if i did you can transfer the topic to the right place, tnx
Few days ago i was trying to put in a rooted kernel in my sgs using odin. after clicking start the odin showed FAIL and from this moment on, the device didnt want to boot or go to recovery mode, only to download mode..
After trying abou a 1000 different other kernels i decided to try this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22555425.. after doing step num 4, odin showed the fail mark again and from that moment on, the device wouldnt want to go to either download mode nor recovery mode.. so the situation is- the device DOESNT react to any click on any key.. JUST NOTHING
I have ordered JIG from someone.. after pluging it in and going back to download mode, is this ICS tutorial mentioned above gonna work for me or is it gonna fail again?
Btw sorry for digging like this, im just so despert for help.. TNX FOR ANY HELP!
If ur on download mode why don't you use odin to flash a stock rom instead off flashing a new kernal!
Be carefull on flashing related.. If ur on black death screen ur [email protected] a new phone!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
Cus all i wanted was to switch the karnel without changing the rom and wiping my data' what would of happen if i change my rom. furthermore i did changed to stock rom as a part of the tutorial above and thats the part the phone was bricked.
btw what is a black death screan? when the phone dont respond?
Can u be more specified what kind of rom & kernal? What kind of sgs phone
Black death screen is when nothing appear on ur screen after flashing prosedure! not even a single object or image, when that time come... Ur phone is useless..

You have your kernel. Open it with 7zip, extract boot.img
Install Heimdall.
Start your GS in Download Mode
Run zadig.exe and install the correct drivers.
Put boot.img in Heimdall file.
Open cmd.exe, go to c:\heimdall (or where you put it)
type :
heimdall flash --kernel boot.img
Enjoy

Plus, remember to kill all Kies processes from background
PS. Since you are only flashing kernel, you won't end up with hard bricked phone..only bootloaders can mess up your phone that badly..so it's probably only driver problem or something like that..try Heimdall as suggested

I haven't got my JIG yet so my phone is still DEAD BLACK.. ill update the post after i'l restore the download mode..

Hi. With google, try to find heimdall. It's a software including zadig.
Boot.img is in your kernel's zip file.
I dont have this file (Boot.img) in the kernel's file posted in the tut above... is it supposed to be in the device itself?
What file have you in kernel's zip ?
Listen, i have downloaded 4 different zips.
1st was ICS_4.0.3_MR1-RC4.2_I9000 (the rom itself from the tut) which includes a boot file img somwhere inside of it.
2nd was odin
3rd was i9000XWJVZ 2.3.6 ROM (the stock GB rom i think) which includes 5 files : APBOOT.....md5 , CODE......md5 , CSC......md5 , MODEM......md5 , and finaly s1_odin.pit
4th and final was CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3 KERNEL which includes the file
"CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVZ-v4.3-TAR.tar"

Actuali i wasnt sure if thats the file u ment cus i have beent told to first flash a stock GB rom with a stock kernel and AFTER that to flash the ICS. the boot file is in the ICS rom files.
sorry for questioning u but its the second time im getting bricked becuase of others mistakes so im a bit scared.

Just packed now sorry. You flashed the one from the restoring stock recovery thread? What was your method of flashing it? Does it boot up at all or stick at the samsung boot screen? (i packaged that one and am curious as I heard reports of it working)
Download link: still uploading
Pit file attached in case you need it (unrar it first)
I do not guarantee that this will work, all I did was tar the files and upload them (and edit the pit). I did not trim the datafs.rfs file due to lack of ability to test it. Flash AT YOUR OWN RISK! so If this fails you now own a fancy brick!
edit:Not posting the tar yet for privacy of ayoteddy and potentially his logins to websites. The data wasn't wiped and has all his info, waiting for a clean one.
damn those files shouldnt contain any data since i had factory wiped just before pulling those images. *shrug* there might be a more in-depth way to clear all data
anyways im sure we can have a functional odin image with only the following files included
zImage
modem.bin
factoryfs.rfs
Recovery.bin
Param.lfs
i doubt anybody will be messing with anything else in their file sys but that should be able to recovery anybody from a soft brick.
Edit: Also dis-include the sbl and boot.bin as it could be very dangerous overwriting those files.. not really necessary anyhow.
I'm actually stuck at the black screen with a phone and a computer with a yellow triangle in the middle. Yeah, I was trying to flash a stock recovery from the stock recovery thread. Got a little desperate and tried to flash the recovery tarred for Odin, and that sent me to where I am now. I appreciate all your hard work guys, and have learned my lesson not to flash unless there's a lot of backups handy ;]
I'll try the pit, not sure if I may need more or not, you guys probably know better than me.
EDIT: as I am not skilled in using Odin and do not wish to cause further damage to my phone, I will await instructions from you guys/ayoteddy's image.

What did you do while flashing it? What boxes did you tick? Where did you put the tar, etc
@ ayoteddy alright i'll just make one from those, only reason i was including cache before is I heard its where permissions were stored though as you said I'm sure those files work fine
Here it is:
Odin + pit: attached
sk4g_stock.tar.md5.rar: Click here
UNRAR the tar first (i didn't want to trim factoryfs.rfs due to unability to test so I compressed it instead)
Put the extracted sk4g.tar.md5 in the pda slot
make sure ONLY AUTO-REBOOT is checked (unless you are re-partitioning, then use re-partition and the pit file)
1. open odin with phone not connected yet
2. boot in to download mode using Trackpad+Vol down then power (thanks sduvick)
3. connect phone to pc
4. sk4g_stock.tar.md5 in pda slot
5. double check that only auto-reboot is checked (and the pda you selected of course)
6. Click flash
Disclaimer: Flash at your own risk, if you get bricked I am not liable.
The odin tar includes
factoryfs.rfs
modem.bin
param.lfs
recovery.bin
zImage
Thanks blu, @sduvick would prolly be the first to test cause he was waitng for this.. hope everything works out for em
He also figured out how to get into downlode mode ..
Trackpad+Vol down then power

I'm not entirely sure what I did. I think I put the recovery.tar.md5 in the wrong place. anyways, I'm back out of bricked, and now just waiting for a working stock restore tar to get back to stock.

Yeah, I didn't have the same root method, so that didn't get rid of Clockwork for me.

attach the pit and re-partition. then flash the tar
sduvick wanna post the steps you used?
I can actually give steps based on what you have for symptoms (too much experimenting for me haha)
If you have the "soft brick," that is the small phone and computer icons, just connect to Odin and flash the full image.
Black screen, no logo.
1. Get into download mode by using VolDown+Touchpad+Power
2. flash full sk4g.tar.md5 as posted.
logo only
1. Download mode
2. Flash full package
Can't flash recovery/boot/sbl
1. Download mode
2. use PIT only, run with repartition checked
3. reboot/reDownload mode
4. run the full image in Odin.
Anything else
1. Download mode
2. Full tar.md5 flash in Odin
3. Ask if it doesn't work

good thing some incredibly sexy blu guy made that pit file. I hear he has the face of brad pitt with abs like jesus.
Hey guys I'm on vacation and bricked my phone.... Grrr.. But I got it back with the unbrick. Bad news is the only computer I have won't allow me to run rage because my work computer thinks the rage bin is a virus and auto deletes it. I can not disable the virus protection. Is there any way to root without access to a computer?
I've been using my phone as an AP for my family to use and also for work related purposes so I need my root back ASAP!!
Thanks guys!
sure just use odin to flash a voodoo kernel. no pit needed, it goes in the pda slot.
the kernel will push root on first boot. and you get lagfix back and sound enhancements. its that easy.

there shuld be an odin version of the comunity kenrel, you need to extract the package and in the .tar is inside the zip.
alternatively if you have the cwm kernel already then you can extract the contents, find the zimage file(that's the actual kernel) in either the kenrel folder or updates folder, take that zimage and archive it as a .tar in a program like 7zip the .tar archive should not have compression and should only contain the zimage file.
also depending on what package you used it may be rooted already. try to install superuser from the market before flashing anything. that may be all you need as many of gtg's packages already have su binaries installed. if this is the case then you can flash a custom kernel with sgskernel flasher which will find the zimage inside the .zip and ignore all the other contents, as long as the file extension matches the archive it will figure the rest out.
I tried adding the ximage to a .tar and flashing through odin, but got the phone >!> pc thing... I reflashed to stock... I am now trying to flash stock with the zimage in the phone slot in hope is to flash stock with the rooted kernel.
superuser did not take either.
One final question, can you link me to the community odin version? I can't seem to find it anywhere.. unless im looking in the wrong place
odin keeps getting stuck at the zimage process

crap. are you an administrator? sometimes it seems to help running odin "as administrator"
odin is sometimes wierd and may take a few attempts to flash. i dont have an esxplaination for this but it happens.
are you using the infuse.pit PIT file? it may help if something got screwed up (maybe not help but it couldnt hurt)

ODIN seems pretty buggy to me.. I am trying to flash back to stock again then flash the kernel overtop of that... ODIN is giving me trouble going back to stock now, but i think this time it looks like its actually working (hopefully!)

best bet for a phone!computer screen is just a full flash with the pit file in place.
the pit should not be used to flash only the kernel! just the .tar goes in the pda slot, nothing else!
Got the stock to boot, flashed the kernel and I'm hearing the famous robot voice telling me the eta on the partition conversions
Sounds like it should work from here!!
Thanks so much for your help! (I clicked the Thanks button on every post you wrote me )
no problem
anyway this can be done through Heimdall? Odin wont recognize my phone
Followed the guide using adb.
After is says I rooted and restart I get a bunch of artifacts on the screen. Please tell me I didnt brick it or anything
How do I fix it?!
stay calm, u cant just brick ur tf10. What u need to do is the following:
- learn how to boot into apx mode...u proly have this knowledge considering u got this trying to flash.
- go to dev section and search prime 1.8.x thread.
- it contains the NVFlash kit + the rom.
- if u dont like the rom...download the original version 3.2
- Go apx mode and run the script @ prime thread.
I experienced it myself. I belief it happened when i wanted to do the one click root.
good luck!
edit:
here the NVFlash with prime 1.4 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1123429
replace the img for 1.8 prime
Theres several download links.. So confused which one. lol.
Not sure what commands i have to run.
Edit: I downloaded the nvflash in the link.. in my control panel "APX" isnt popping up..
but what commands would I have to run and what img do I replace?

Okay. I figured I already had the Nvidia USB boot-recovery driver installed from when I first tried to root. So takes care of me not seeing APK appear in my device manager.

Ironic. I just found it through following links in the NVflash thread. Thanks though! waiting on download and then i can proceed
I got the Prime1.8.2.zip where do i extract it? The video is showing Prime 1.4.zip and the files inside are different.
You do not unzip the contents of ROMs you keep them as is...if that is what I am understanding from your text.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Well in the video linked above the download prime1.4.zip he extracts it to the nvflash folder and then runs the "Download" batch command
Do NOT use the ZIP file for NVFLash,
Download the Prime1.8.tar.bz2 file, extract the files and put it in the NVFlash root folder.
Prime 1.8.tar.bz2 here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1231666
Okay, this is just confusing me now. You give me that link to download the 1.8.tar.bz2
The video has primev1.4.tar.bz2 and in the video it says to go into the prime1.4folder and move the 3 files into the nvflash folder.
The link you give doesnt just have those 3 files so im confused on what to do??
-The 1.8 is just the most up to date version.
-You can use the 1.4 like the video if you like.
Fixed. Im back in business! Thank you all for your help and patience.
Now should I flash the new 1.8.4? Still a little new of how the flashing on here goes. Been so accustomed to my Evo and CWM
I downloaded Rom manager.. shows "install clockworkmod recovery to flash roms..." I dont need to because the NVflash installed it already?
What are some things to install to help improve responsiveness/performance? Dont think ill do any OC'ing yet. Is there an app to do any underclocking/undervolting.. Are we able to flash the V6supercharge script?
ROM Manager is not compatible with the tf as of now and yes if you did everything during nvflash method, you should have
cwm install.
Just download 1.8.4 and put it on the removable micro sd card, boot into cwm recovery
and flash. Steps should be similar to flashing via cwm on your android phone.
Keep in mind, from here on outyou can just use cwm to flash new rom, updates or kernels, ect.

Next time and its really more easier just do it with NVFlash. For new FW and ROMS, just down load the NVFlash version of what ever u want (see DEV section for prime or revolver).
Replace or place the following things in ur NVFlash folder:
recovery.img (CWM i belief)
boot.img (boot conf and sequence)
bootloader.bin (pretty boot visuals)
system.img (the ROM!)
And ur done!

I do not know where the files are and frankly the proper way to use Odin. But I have seen it discussed on these forums before and also pretty certain there are tutorials on YouTube. Chances are it won't work anyways. Seems most post i have seen about this subject have not been resolved

Whoa whoa whoa, why the Odin so soon?
Make sure Clockworkmod Recovery is up to date first, flash the latest version using fastboot.
Then see if you can mount the USB storage in CWM Recovery.
Make sure the adb drivers are properly installed, that's a pre-requisite to flashing CWM using fastboot. You can use the PDA Net drivers, which always served me right. If you see that exclamation mark, your device isn't properly installed, hence the inability to use fastboot.
actually i cant flash anything.not recovery.no rom.nothing.while flashing it says 'failed. bootloader locked.try fastboot oem unlockbut when i tried tht my fone ahngs on unlock bootloader? screen.i waited like an hour but nothing.then i hv to take out battery and try again.but didnt worked.

I wanted to try that but it looks like your phone needs to be turned on completely. Cannot do that because it hangs at the loading screen. Probably the same for TS.

Recovery Mode doesn't need root to function. Try the Universal GB Root package and tell me what happens, a bit more information would be helpful, like, if an error shows, or something like that...
EDIT: OH! I just realized what is happening! You are using CWM with a Stock ROM that you want to root, right? Well, CWM does NOT support .EFS file systems. It can't mount the /system/ partition to write on it. When you install a custom ROM with it, it re-formats the system partition to EXT4. So, you can't use both a Stock ROM and CWM. They do not support each other. You need to flash a custom ROM. Or use the Stock Recovery to flash the Root Zip.

Ok, i'll wait for the screenshot =)
Also, this is a first i have ever heard of this problem. If the drivers are OK, Odin is showing the COM Port, and the Setup begins, my only guess is that you got the wrong flash files... Are you sure you'r device is "s5670"? not some other model? Also, i recommend downloading official firmware from SamFirmware. But for now, i wait for screenie =)

thanks i figured that out but also now there is another problem...please help me.
I downloaded the stock rom and it has only two files ( a .dll and an file HOME.tar) but i loaded the file as PDA in
odin and now there comes the problem.... the drivers are setup and the ID:COM section turns yellow and then in the
logs everything proceeds good and gets stuck at the setupconnection stage. I'll try to post the screen shot

Hi @koukis32
Dnt wry Bro ur cell is just fine please download the Firmware pages that you want to flash from the link below by entering your phone model number or i shall also paste link where in you can download the package directly also.
You can find the required ODIN Firmware Package as you wish for the ODIN tool
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ and put in the Device Model Number and download it
or complete Firmware Package of Gingerbread 2.3.6 DDKT3 you can find the link below
http://hotfile.com/dl/146050815/b3b9...2_INU.zip.html in case this link doesn't work please download the Packages from above link as I can't check it from my office so dntmnd
For ODIN Flashing Tool:
http://www.downloads.techdiscussion....ting-software/
and Procedure to Flash is:
- Shutdown Galaxy Fit and restart it in Recovery Mode. For that hold the volume down key + Home key and power key. Hold it for some seconds and leave it. The device will boot in recovery mode. When the yellow triangle, connect cell phone and a computer with a USB cable.
- Launch ODIN on your system. In that look under ID:COM section. The section will turn to yellow once the device is connected and detected.
- Now click on OPS. It will ask you to browse the downloaded firmware package. Browse to GIO_1.0.ops. Once it is selected click on One Package and choose S5670DDKT3_S5670ODDKT2_S5670DDKT2_HOME.tar.md5.
- Now click on Start. The update process has started and it will take few minutes to complete.
- Once it is done, the device will reboot itself. Later on you can go in Settings and checkout the firmware version.
And considering still you still in Galaxy Fit Page then go take a break and relax and follow the instructions in the link which I have shared you phone will come back to life.
