I'm a little perplexed. There is no Genius Button shortcut in my app drawer, and I'm trying to make sure there never was one because I can't quite remember. My Genius Button no longer works either due to my fiddling around with the keypad system file, and I can't get it back.
The only way I can access Genius Button is to run it with Titanium Backup. Then, strangely, once I run it the first time, Genius Button appears in my app drawer as if it installs itself.
So, do you have Genius in your app drawer or not?
Yes I have one there. Phone is not rooted yet.
Nope, I don't. Not rooted, don't plan to.
I am rooted and no I don't have the icon, but the button itself works.

Yes I have a genius button in my app drawer. I am not rooted.
I'm rooted and have the button in my drawer. Are you using the standard Sense launcher, or an alternative? That makes a difference.
Apparently, the Sense launcher hides some apps/buttons, especially those related to Tmob apps. Try installing LauncherPro or ADW and see if the button is in those app drawers.

I'm rooted and have it in my appdrawer.
After I remapped my genius button the app appeared in the drawer.
Also just an fyi from my experience, freezing the genius apk with titanium backup caused sense to crash frequently

Huh. Well, I figured out what the problem was regarding the keymap file not getting GB to work. It turns out there was a permissions issue.
And, it appears you will see the Genius app in your app drawer only after you start the Genius app following a reboot. That's why some see it and other don't using the stock launcher.
That's interesting about the genius button..I never used it at all so it was never in my drawer but after I remapped it, its always in the drawer.

Hey.
Hold home button for task manager? Possible?
I am talking about just like the Vibrant, where you would hold the home button and then task manager would come up, where you could END ALL apps?
Is it possible on G2X?
Thanks.
actually, holding home on the g2x brings up the recently used apps for faster transition. its not used to end/kill apps. just to switch between 8 recently used apps.
Why are you using a task manager?

I don't know if either of you understand his question. The vibrant, stock, would bring up recently used apps like most other android phones, but also had a button on that "recent apps" pop-up that took you to the built in task manager that touchwiz had. This would allow you to kill any programs that were still actively running in the background.
I don't have an answer for your question though, sorry. I think that's a touchwiz only(and possibly sense) thing.

Active Applications in the market. Its free.
Its exactly like the vibrsnts task manager.
And don't worry about defending yourself to these people.
They did not understand my love for the vibrants task manager.
They ALL ripped me
But you want to be able to kill task like browser which does not close with the back button like other apps.
Yet leave the apps that would reopen alone. Just like the OFFICIAL Samsung task manager.
Active Applications.
Your welcome in advance my friend.

Actually doesn't CM7 have the ability to choose which program launches on long presses? I don't use task managers but I'm pretty sure I played with those in a long time.
Outside of CM7, I know there are other sneaky apps in the market to achieve the same effect.
On my cheap android tablet I bought for my son, he had the habit of running a game, hitting home, and launching another one. So I installed a task manager to kill all apps while the screen was off.
Sure it might not be the best idea on a PHONE but it worked VERY well for saving battery life. I think if you excluded the proper apps, you could gain the same results.
This, coupled with SetCPU, did wonders. Night and day difference.
Does anyone know if u are able to reprogram the search button as multitasking? If not is anyone here capable and willing to reprogram it for some of us who I'll use it because I rarely touch the search button. Anyone else would like this except for me? Btw I'm running eagesblood, Thanks in advance
I second that request. That'd be way more useful than the search button
Do you mean the recently used/running task list? That's accessed by pressing home one the first home screen.

I would love this. Seem to remember CM7 having custom application launching for touch and hold search button so it might be a feature that just hasn't been implemented yet.
I have seen customizable keyboard modifications for devices with physical keyboards in order to remap some of the less useful keys to something worth while. When I have more time I may try to dig it up and see how complicated it is. Anyone care to tackle this? I probably don't have the knowledge to complete.

I know u can long press home but that is time consuming sort of in a way and I get annoyed by doing it.

You can customize the home key in cm9 like you can customize the search key in cm7. You need to install Apex launcher. It have a lot of features you would like. This launcher do everything like cm7. Try it out.

Can you just remap it with Button remapper or Tasker?

Button remapper won't work because it doesn't remap the long press stuff like multitasking.

Yeah that is is, has anyone tried this yet on our phone? I went back to cm7 so can't try this atm. Ill switch back to ics when i don't need my phone for anything important.
I have advance task killer and I close apps frequently through out the day. For some strange reason there are 30+ apps running when I'm only using 10 of at the most or a little more. How can I keep them from opening after they have been terminated???
My S3 is starting to move slow and I don't like it One bit!!!
One of the cardinal rules of Android is to never use a task killer......
As you have found out, the apps just open again anyway & all that open/closing will absolutely kill your battery life.

Don't use a task killer, especially on Froyo and above.
Task killers are totally counter-productive in Android.
Android does a great job of memory management all by itself, just let it do its thing & don't worry about it.
Never use ATK. Wastes more battery then the apps themselves.
As everyone else has said, using a task killer makes things worse, not better.
What everyone has said about not using task killer plus, exit apps using the back button and not home if you want to close them. That way they will exit rather than stay in memory. Also, if you really want to dump everything out of memory then hold in home>task manager>end all.
And it's moving slowly since the task killer kills the app so the app relanches itself. Killed, relaunch, killed relaunch, killed relanch. Now multiply that by 10 or 20 or 30 apps and it's a wonder your CPUand RAM haven't melted yet.
There's a stock option in 'settings-developer settings' to limit background processes. Also to kill any app you leave right away.

I have an app called Eva which is a voice assistant. I believe ics is sometimes closing the app when its in the background, because the widget for the app is not responsive and has no text sometimes and works fine other times. I don't know of anyway in ics to set an exception in the task management to never close this app or its background process. Any way to get around this without a 3rd party task killer? Or is there any way to see a log of what ics is killing in the background to confirm my suspicion?

It's probably the apps problem I'd contact their user support.

None
Will try and get back.
I however would have liked it better integrated into Primo Launcher as I dislike installing a lot of little apps called plugins to fill gaps in a launcher.
Cheers!

With similar success you can claim that every Linux distribution steals from every other one because they all share the same core.
Great apps. I really like this primo apps. I am using its launcher in my another set . After that i forget apex or nova. This primo app provide me a new life on my gb based phone . This gesture is perfect except please provide the option to move floating icon to anywhere.

Mod Edit: Profanity
Hope you can make a new launcher soon!
Primo was quite better than Apex... :crying:
If possible make a new primo launcher with same features as before but support gb+.
it's working good for me. I like that you can use a custom image and change the opacity. One suggestion I have would be to make a black background or custom background appear when triggered instead of a darkened settings menu. Just my two cents...
Edit: I j just noticed that this'd only happens if you exit the app from the app's settings menu. If you press back to get out of there menu then it doesn't bring up the settings menu when triggered. Does that make sense?

Edit: long pressing the search button doesn't work, the language option has 2 prompts

Would it be possible to have multiple buttons at the same time? also sizing them in rectangular shape? I'd like to be able to have some thin but long area to tap on both sides of the screen

That doesn't seem like an issue with Primo Gesture. If you used another app to remap that button, then it began acting just like 'Search', not long press on Search, i.e. long press on that button is like what would otherwise be a short press on 'Search'.

I didn't use any app to remap that button, long pressing it started Google search by default, so i thought it was something kind of like a search button... Guess I'll have to put up with the icon in the notification bar
