A lil Confusion plz help - HTC Inspire 4G

Hi Guys
My friend shipped me a inspire 4g At&t phone from US.(i am in INDIA)
The phone is unlocked right now.I just had a query. If I go ahead and Root it and then install a custom ROM,will the phoen get locked? Or is there any special thing we need to do so that the phone does not lock itself..

I'm not an expert, But I'm pretty sure you'll be good.. I think rooting unlocks the phone anyways, no?

If you root the phone as the guys told you, you will be Sim unlocked and get SuperCID... it doesn't matter if you already are sim unlocked.

Tmobile unlocking sims, Do i need to switch back to factory?

A line is being canceled from my tmobile account. They said we need to be on the phone with them, Do i need to switch back to factory settings or does it really matter? When they switch my sims to unlock... Does it require my phone to be on factory settings or can i just keep my phone s-off and coredroid on my phone?
Not sure your question is clear Sims are specific to supplier but will work on any unlocked phone......

I have tmobile and they're willing to unlock my phone so that i can use other carriers sims with my sensation.. However i have it unlocked and coredroid rom on it.. Do i need to go back to factory rom or can i leave it as it is for them to unlock my phone for other sims...?
Have you tried another sim my guess is you are aleady unlocked...

yes.. tried a att... doesnt work... Tmobile said they're going to unlock it for me.. My question is do i need to be on factory rom or is it okay to leave it on coredroid rom.. Can they access my phone and unlock it even though im unlocked and on a custom rom?
Well tell them to try nothing to loose - I still believe its a matter of u need the apn - access point name - settings for new sim / provider. When you 1st boot a Rom it as you to select from list...

[Q] Question about htcdev unlocking

Ive been rooting phones since the Eris and just wanted to make sure before I started on this phone I got it all clear. If I just root, can I still flash roms? I have seen people post unsecure bootimgs that need to be flashed first in fastboot before flashing the rom in recovery. Or do I have to unlock the device as well if I want to enjoy any of the roms that are out. Thanks in advance and btw, this phone freaking rocks. First phone I have ever had that I didnt have to rush home to root and I just came from the Nexus.
So far you still have to unlock using Htcdev to use any custom Rom.

Yes. I agree with him. You still have to unlock to root at this point. Hopefully this will change at some point. (not that hacking you phone a different way breaks your warranty any less...).

Is root required to unlock bootloader

I follow all root how to but fail due to permission denied error.
People say you can unlock bootloader without being rooted.
But all unlocking how to, state that phone must be rooted.
I have XL, 1.88.
Can anyone confirm that I can unlock bootloader without being root initially?
You have to be rooted. Sorry.

Not entirely true. You need to be rooted on AT&T, since BL unlock is not officially offered for us and we need to change the SuperCID.
Not sure if this is the case with SingTel. Most carriers are allowed to unlock their BL officially. If HTC offers the bootloader unlock for that carrier CID, you do not need root. And root is easily achieved after BL unlock (just install a custom recovery and flash SU).

Sorry. Unfamiliar with other carriers. Plus, I never saw the One X in the list on the dev site at all. Has it changed? Or, are you saying that some carriers don't lock the bootloader at all? I wonder why AT&T even cares about locking it down.
If your phone is NOT on AT&T, you can unlock the bootloader with HTCDev.com
That means you do NOT i repeat NOT need root.
Just choose "All other supported phones" in the list of phones.

I lol'd at this. No offense taken. Actually, you are quite correct. I've been unhappy in general with AT&T, but not much of a choice is available. Glad we had that break-up of Ma Bell so long ago because of deregulation. Sounds like we need that again.

Are you sure? It is listed as a HTC One XL with LTE coverage and their firmware works on everyones S4 phones.
Where is your info coming from that the phone isnt a S4??
To add facts:
Singtel previously offers both: HTC one X and HTC one XL (LTE).
Now, I think Singtel only offers One XL.
Singtel 4G Network Just about 3 months old.
BTW, I successfully Unlock Bootloader and gain root upon Rom Flashed.
I encountered no trouble at all. And did the following:
. follow HTCdev literally
. flash TWRP recovery image using fast boot flash command
. flash custom rom zip file thru TWRP
=) +1 rooted HOXL

[Q] Why are Sim Locked for some carriers but unlocked for others

Hello,
I have an HTC Sensation 4g that was originally from Tmobile. I rooted it and also unlocked the phone to use on other networks. I verified this by using other prepaid carriers in the U.S and also in Mexico. But now i have an issue I tried a company called Moviestar in Mexico. I keep getting a message saying SIM LOCKED. Why is this?
Also does anyone know how asking for unlock code work from tmobile. I also have service with them with a different sensation can I call them and give them the IMIE for the sensation I want unlocked? Not sure if you have to be using the sensation while asking for the code.
I also found this to change APN but dont the sim cards change this automatically?

Simply ask T-Mobile for the unlock code. They will give it to you. I haven't asked for this device yet but asked for my other device and they gave me the code without any problems. Just tell them you will be traveling and want the code. It shouldn't be a problem. They did it for me before without any issues. Hope this is helpful. Best wishes

Maybe T-Mobile, but I am on Vodafone and they won't give it to me for some reason. HTC have put a guide how to SOFF your phone, but that didn't worked for me. I only have the "wire trick" left to try, but some users report broken phones after so... I hear people write mails to HTC and they give them the unlock codes Anyone had a successful feedback on the issue?

HTC dev unlock method works fine.. just follow procedure from HTC page
If your bootloader is 1.2xx , jb method of soff is only option...
What u mean broken phone after wire trick???.,.,
If u stuck on jb screen after many attempt of wire trick , then u simply remove temp root and phone will back to Android

To verify, if I have S-OFF'd my Sensation, then I should be able to use a SIM on another carrier without having to call my carrier (T-Mobile) to get an unlock code. Right?
Thank you.

No, you're missing 1 step.
S-Off and Sim Unlock are two different things.
But if you have S-Off and Root access you can figure out your own Sim Unlock code quickly and easily.
See here for instructions...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107
Then once you have that unlock code, when you put in a sim from another carrier it will prompt you for the code and you simply type it in.
Skipjacks is right I was trying to find that thread wasnt fast enough lol. Cedyathome follow that guide and it should work for most carriers.

[Q] help rooting 3.20.502.52 build 2.3.5

I plan on rooting a friends Inspire 4g and I was wondering which method should I use to root the phone? I understand there are 2 different ways. It's an HTC Inspire 4g 2.3.5 with the build number 3.20.502.52 cl380259. I can't seem to find any recent ways to find out how to do this except this on here:
http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=88
Is that the only way to do it now? I have experience with rooting. I've rooted 2 HTC arias in the past along with a moto back flip and atrix 2, so I do have rooting and flashing experience. Im just trying to get some more info before doing this. Thanks for any and all help.
Yes, you would need to do it that way for S-Off. You could also unlock the boot loader with HTCDEV only, but you will be S-On and get fewer options that way.

Well I plan to only flash one rom on this device and never mess with it again. Preferably CM9/10. I don't plan on messing with different roms after that. So if I root using HTCDEV, will I be able to flash one of those ROMS?
Yes. You will need to fastboot flash boot.img separately after the ROM.
Banana gave me a link for AAHK and its better, I have s off and unlocked bootloader.....I've never used HTC dev unlock

Then you don't have an unlocked bootloader. You are S-OFF, which means that the nand partition security is off now. That allows you to flash anything you want...much better than an unlock bootloader only.
Help please
I am on the same build.succed in unlocking boot loader by HTCDEV.But cant flash the boot image as mension here http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=88.
What to do ?

So if I just root and have S-OFF without having an unlocked bootloader, I can flash any ROM of my choosing? That seems like it's the best way to go or the easiest at least. Could you give me or mind PM'ing me the AAHK that you used Jrhodes?

Yes. If http://tau.shadowchild.nl/attn1/?p=88 applies read it. If not just use AAHK from the same site. I don't know anything about how the GS3 is unlocked. The link in my signature (to the thread in the DHD forums, which is the international variant of the same phone) will help.
