I appologize bugging everybody, but have a problem. I recently switched carriers from T-Mobile to Simple Mobile. I carrier unlocked my phone and not having any issues as far as calling or texting is concerned. But when I try to gain internet access it forwards me to the T-Mobile apppack site. I'm sure it has to do with changing carrier providers under wireless settings, but I don't know what to change the info to. Here's what I'm running:
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-sms-kj6-v0.1.1
Build: Gingerbread.vvvkj6
Mod: Lightning Zapped! Valhalla-Blackedition
I appreciate any help I can get to fix this. I hate asking questions and much rather like finding the answer myself, but I can't find it anywhere. Maybe I just missed it.
Thanks in advance.
You need to get the Access Point Name (APN) information from your new provider (This might be it, under Android 1.6 and higher). Then go into Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Access Point Names. Click the menu button, select "New APN", and set the information they gave you. Once that's done I believe you need to select your new APN vs the T-Mobile US APN and it should work.

I just received my purchase but need help setting up the settings to access the internet. I have T-mobile.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
T-Mobile Settings
You can always call T-Mobile Customer Services for the settings. Also, I think they have their internet settngs listed on their web site. AT&T has it on theirs.
So I have a Sprint Touch Pro 2 that I unlocked with HardSPL and sim unlocked through htc-unlocks.
I'm currently using the latest release from Mightyrom
I have the Phone calls and texts running no problem on the phone. My issue is with MMS and DATA. As I open the browser it gives me the CANNOT CONNECT screen on my Opera Browser.
I have no ability to send an MMS, As I go to my text message menu, I press NEW, and I have no option to choose "picture", "video", or "MMS" as a message type.
I found these t-mobile settings I guess i'm supposed to enter. Only problem is that I don't know where to enter these.

Can you elaborate?
There's 8 options under the "connections" tab, and i've looked in all of them and don't see where I can enter any of it.
Anybody else who might have knowledge as well please feel free to chime in and help out. I'm a newbie who's searched everywhere there is, with no luck..
All input is appreciated
After you are at connections I believe you pick manage connections and then new connection and add from there.
settings - connections - connections - manage existing connections - new - choose cellular line (gprs,3g) - next - apn = epc.tmobile.com - next - finish
as far as mms goes I haven't found a way to make it work using mightyrom
Hello All,
Firstly, my apologies if this seems like a redundant thread. I found similar threads, but none that actually answered my question.
I'm a first-time Android owner, and I recently picked up the Samsung Galaxy S 4G (running Android 2.2) since I've been stuck with T-mobile for what seems like forever. I am big on saving battery, so I'm in the habit of disabling my mobile data when I'm not using it. However, I still want to be able to enable MMS.
Originally I had downloaded APNdroid since it has the option to still enable MMS while toggling mobile data. I know that this occurs through the widget adding suffixes to the APN names, but this device only comes with a "T-Mobile US" APN which encompasses both Internet AND MMS. Upon searching this forum, it appears that this is standard practice since Android 2.1 was released, but I could be wrong.
So I know you can go in and change the APN type to "internet" only. And I know that you can ADD a new APN. Buuuuut how the heck do I add one that works?? It asks for name, apn, proxy, port, user name, password, server, etc. I have NO earthly idea what information I need to provide here. I attempted to replicate the settings of the existing APN in a new APN and then designated one as Internet and one as MMS, but that didn't work.
Is there a way to create a separate MMS APN, or is it not possible with the newer versions of the Android OS?
N.B. I have not rooted my phone.
thank you so much
Hello there, i just got this phone 3 weeks ago and since i have wifi i didnt test the 3g conection before. i activated a data pack and i just realized that my 3g doesnt come on at all. the screen shows 4g left side of the signal strengh but it doesnt work at all. i got at&t version. i confirmed with my carrier and i did activate data, they even helped me to set up the apn but is still not working. can you helpe me? thanks!
PD: they said they couldnt have done more because they dont support that type of device
Does it say 4G or 4G LTE? The at&t icons are a bit different I'd you're not used to them.
4G = hspa
4G LTE = LTE
So if you're getting the 4G icon you are actually getting 3G hspa speeds.

If another carrier besides AT&T, you will need to find the APN settings for your carrier and manually enter it into Settings>Mobile network settings>Access point names. Select "New APN" and enter the correct settings for your manufacturer.
The 4G icon simply means a network is present, it doesn't mean you are connected to it.
thank you for helping people. whel actualy i wouldnt mind getting 3g network access, the point is that i dont have internet access at all. i called my carrier (Claro - El salvador) and they helped me to set up the apt but is still not working. i was wondering if there is something else i could try to fix this
nevermind, i finally fixed it
Please share the fix so the information is available for anyone who might have the same problem in the future.

sorry. well, first i did master reset, once done i set up an apn (carrier provides you with this info), then went to mobile network > network operators > select automatically. once the device found the "CLARO" network i turned data on and got internet service.
Thankyou, these threads live on long after we're finished with them so it's important to have the information readily available for future troubleshooters.

I'm guessing you either had not entered the APN info exactly correctly the first time. Or also, after entering the APN you actually have to select it as the "active" one on the list of APNs (making sure it has the colored dot next to it). Maybe it did need a factory reset, but this shouldn't be necessary just to change APN.
Happy you got it figured out.
Hello,
I've been putting off asking the question as I thought that somebody else had to have gone through this already but I've had poor luck looking through the forum and Google hasn't been able to help.
I'll be traveling to Italy in the near future with my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (Build KOT49H.I535VRUDNE1). I would like to pick up a TIN or WIND SIM while I'm there, primarily for data usage. From what I've read, once I install the 3rd party SIM, I'll need to update the APN settings to get data to work.
Stock, it looks like the APN settings are uneditable. I rooted the phone with towelroot (if only everything were so easy) and then checked the APN settings to see if I could add another network. No dice.
Poking around on the web, it looks like in the past, people have been able to work around this by downloading build prop editor and adding the following two lines:
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
I gave this a shot and was surprised to see the APN menu gone when I went back into my network settings. Through trial and error, I determined that the inclusion of ro.csc.sale_code=LOL changes my Mobile Networks options from:
- Mobile Data
- Global Data Roaming Access
- Roaming
- Signal Strength
- Network Mode
- Access Point Names
- Network Operators
to:
- Mobile Data
- Data Roaming
- Network Mode (GSM is not an option in here)
- System Select
- Dial Up Networking
There is no option to modify APN settings there. Am I missing something silly? Did something change in KitKat 4.4.2 that has caused this approach to "unlocking" the APN settings to become invalid? Is everything really ok and I'll have access to the APN settings when I insert the italian carrier's SIM card?
I'm game for other approaches as well. At one point, I thought I saw an article that talked about setting up a pointer to the APN settings prior to updating the prop file but I haven't been able to relocate that.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Aaron
In the event somebody else is looking for the answer, I got my hands on a TIM sim card today, installed it in the phone and the APN menu reappeared and let me enter a new APN. Looks like the answer as of today for this phone is TowelRoot, SuperSU, BuildProp and install the 3rd party sim.
Take care,
Aaron
