[Q] KB3 Radio voicemail issues, KD1 Radio search button issues - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey everyone,
I've had amazing increase in 3G speed with KB3 so I stuck with this radio for a while now, however I've noticed that I cannot access my voicemail with this radio! It's completely mute but the call timer keeps on rolling. I'm on TELUS in Montreal, Quebec.
So I decided to switch to KD1 which gives me average speeds (although better than stock KF1 radio) and I was able to access voicemail. However, a huge Search button glitch has appeared where it constantly goes on 'search', and the search button appears to be pressed REPEATEDLY.
So I switched back to KB3, but still can't access voicemail.
I'm rooted on CM9 ICS.

Sorry to be off topic , is your Nexus S a or t ? Kl1 data speed seems a bit low and might try KB3 radio...My Nexus S is I9020T

Unfortunately Google Voice is not available here in Canada :-\.
So I will either have to flash back to the stock KF1 radio or keep my good KB3 but access my voicemail through landline or someone's else phone lol

[Q] How to enable EDGE connectivity...

All right I've went through all the posts regarding this and none of the options seem to work. I have terrible 3G/4G signal where I live. How can I set the network!!??!! Tried the apps tried the *#*# stuff (all I get with that is "RAT selection restricted!" WTF is RAT?) I can't even make a phone call or send a simple text with the one bar of 3G/4G I get. I know most are probably against the merger but I will hopefully benefit from it cuz there is a T-Mo tower down the street from me. Anyhow please help. I'm rooted, stock AT&T, 2.2.1

It's only possible with Rogers-based ROMs (e.g. Infused v2.x)
It's not possible with the stock AT&T ROM or any derivatives, and causes all sorts of problems with CM7.
Hopefully AT&T's Gingerbread update will fix this.

Infused v2 is Rogers-based.
Entropy, I was able to force 2G with Infused 1.5.3 when I had it paired with the Rogers modem. I used the star code *#2263# and that allowed me to select a GSM only band.
Also, on current infused.v2 builds, I cannot force 2G as they're not using Rogers modem and I don't feel like flashing another modem and bricking it on these test builds.

Oh, thanks for the info - it's the modem and not the userland! Very useful to know.

[Q] radio problems??

hey guys. i speedtest my 9020a on my att network and its ridiculously slow. i was wondering if i might need to reflash my radio. thanks in advance
How is the coverage on your area ? do you have a reliable 3G signal ? please don't speedtest in an elevator in a 50-floor building
the area im in has good coverage. im located in central/north nj, no mountains here. my signal is always 3g or H. these results are slow compared to my buddies verizion and sprint speedtests. idk why its been so slow lately. and i conducted tests all over the place, still slow. the radio in the phone is the one that came with it, its not a reflash, so i really have no clue as what to dk to better my signal
If your on an unlimited data plan you're probably being throttled. That is why I dropped them a month ago for sprint. They will warn you before they throttle you though At about 2 gb's
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk
no unlimited plan here. just the good ole crappy 2gb plan. its pretty pathetic that my only good connection is through wi fi. wasting my dam money on a data plan is not cool
Lol your using a capped Radio... I'm in Miami using the KB3 radio ... my downloads are 3-4 mbps ... and 1.5 up.... flash the kb3 and post a screen shot of your speed

84dbm 15asu
i have no clue what that means, but i have full bars of service with 3g&H. i live in an area where the service is always good, thats why i was wondering why my net speeds were so slow

Have you tried the latest radio (KF1)? Maybe you get better speeds.

[Q] New to SGS2 727R

Hi all.
I just finished picking up my sgs2lte. Really excited about it. I just finished rooting it and now I would like to install an ICS 4.0.4 rom.
My specs are:
SGH-I727R
Android 2.3.5
Baseband I727RUXKJ7
Kernel 2.6.35.11
Build GB.RUXKJ7
I am hoping someone can assist me with this.
What is the best baseband for rogers?
What is the biggest sdcard that I can buy for it? I heard that this device can now accept 64 class10 sdcards, is this true?
Thanks all,
Heeter
I don't think it matters much.
UCLE2 is the recommended modem for most ROMs (Most ROMS will state which modem is recommended), especially the AOSP based ones like CM9 or AOKP. For the most part they seem to be interchangeable.
I have used the UCLE2 and UCLF3 baseband modems with no issues (I believe UCLF3 is the RAT unlocked rogers modem..).
Right now I am using the latest AT&T modem UCLF5, with CyanogenMod 9 (7/02/2012 nightly) and it seems to work just fine.
Are you able to get 4G with your setup?
Thanks for your response, Rabidsmurf
Heeter
Yes, although the phone is somewhat misleading, at least in CM9
The icon will show 3G until in use when it switches to H, I assume this is for power savings or something. Download the speedtest.net app to confirm. On 4G i get around 8Mb/s down and 2.5 Mb/s up.
Additionaly what Rogers calls 4G is HSPA+, if you go to About Phone > Status under mobile network type it should say HSPAP:15 (That is HSPA+ 4G on rogers), conversely 3G is UMTS:3. My phone flips between the two as I mentioned when not in use or in use, could be a ROM specific thing.

Well, mine was saying 4G before the rooting with the factory settings,
But it says UMTS:3 on there now.
I will install CM9, maybe that will make the difference, I just installed the ATT UCLF5 radio, still 3G
Heeter
What ROM are you using?
If it's SKY ICS, in my experience it will always say 4G no matter what (Unless it's LTE maybe).
If you see UMTS:3 try to open an APP that has constant network demands, it might switch while you're looking at it in the status to HSPAP:15, sometimes it's tough to catch it as the phone seems to go idle as soon you go into the menus
I am also in Edmonton by the way.
Hi Rabidsmurf
Was mistakingly on the Chimera rom, but I just reformatted everything and now is using this SKY ICS 4.2F6 with the UXCLF3 radio, now I am getting the 4G signal
Thanks sooo much for helping me out.
Right on, cool, fellow Edmonton dude.
Heeter
No problem.
I was also going to suggest reviewing your APN settings if all else failed. Found a typo earlier with the APN that comes with CM9 rom (caused MMS to not work), guess that's why it's still an Alpha.

lol actually its at the level of an RC, but I digress
I'm using the I727RUXLF3 Baseband on AOKP Build 40 in the Edmonton area as well and it's running great. I see the same behaviour with the switching between 3G/H signal.

[Q] ATT Nexus S JB on Telus questions.

Hi all,
I currently have a ATT version of NS with CyanogenMod JB. I have switched over from Rogers to Telus (Swapped out sim cards)
My question is what is the best baseband radio for my new telus setup?
Although it has been working okay, a couple of days ago, the calling part quit working. I can dial someone and it rings, but I cannot hear them or they hear me when we connect. I can also receive a call, but when I answer, the same thing happens.
I can still send recieve data (3G), and I can do messaging, but not calls.
Thanks
Heeter
I have a telus SIM in mine recently any reception has stopped working only get rogers signal :/ KB1 or KB3 work well around the same. hope it helps.
I have KJ1 for Telus in Montreal and it's the best compromise between Stability and Speed. KB3 is the fastest but unstable. KF1 is most stable but one of the slowest.
Try it out and let me know!

Thanks for that,
I am on KF1 presently, but not happy with quirky calling stability since two weeks ago. Calls are just not getting through. Even got the SIM card replaced yesterday, to no avail.
Updated CM10 to the latest nightly too, So now I must try a new baseband.
Will try and post back later.
Thanks
Heeter
Edit: do you have a link for that KJ1 baseband? cant seem to locate it. Hopefully flashable through CWM.
Here you go:

Thanks!!
Will try and report back, still having issues, to the that I stopped using the phone.

[Q] borked or wrong radio

Hi all people, some time ago i created a thread about this same issue, now that i tested some radios from the firmware thread (flasehd them through moto-fastboot) ,tested retail uae, asia and asia ops, they all get to same problem cannot get more than 2 bars on my signal, and almost all the time im on emergency call only mode, this bothers me because i have an antena like 2 blocks away ,tested signal on my p500 and my atrix 4g and both of them get full reception, i must say that its not a populated area, so i started thinking about maybe i have issues with the radio hw itself, or maybe just none of the radios ive tested is the right one? Im form chile, thats south america carrier claro chile running scv7 leak #1 rom ,is there a way to "powerup" radio's reception ? Or i need to get latam radio firmware (havent found it) ?
Thanks in advance

Are you sure your sim is correct? I had a friend who had a 3G phone, they upgraded and got a 4G phone and put the old sim from the 3G into the 4G phone. They had the same problem you're describing. Poor reception, constantly switching into 'emergency call mode', etc. They finally got a 4G sim and all was well. You might dial in *#*#4636#*#* and check your preferred network to make sure it isn't on anything funky like GSM only. Also you can check your signal strength and service connections from there.

I assume you're on stock ICS? If so you can boot into recovery and select BP Tools <-- not sure if that the exact name, but it's close. Either way, when you reboot you'll have a new app (can't remember the name either, but you'll see it), it's a debug app and it might let you see your mobile network info similar to the dial code. Once you reboot again, the app will be gone, and you'll be back in normal mode. I'm on CM10 and have been for awhile, so I don't have ICS in front of me, I apologize for the vague info, but hopefully it helps.
Im on scv7, cannot find bp tools anywhere ,also would be great if someone point me out to a GB fxz firmware
Edit: just found it ,dunno if its temporary (stability) or i got it, extracted radio.img from jimbridgam's return to gb from ics fxz script utility ,will test tomorrow morning while on the road and also post results if anyone is having the same problem i was
edit2: worked like a charm ,no more low signal issues

use jimbridgman's return to gb from ics utility (it's on dev section) then download the file, op3n with winrar, extract radio.img, then flash through moto fastboot (type moto-fastboot xda developers on google and it will show up an atrix og forum's thread ) have it running, then replace ics radio with gingerbread one (google arround on how to do this) type moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img and you are done
