Worth buying a nexus s on sprint? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys my brother is looking to upgrade from an HTC hero on sprint. He's looking at the epic 4g and the nexus s. The nexus s is only $50 on amazonwireless, is it worth it over the $150 epic 4g? All the reviews I've read say its a good phone but has signal and reception issues, have those been fixed? This phone would not be rooted so it needs to work out of the box. Thanks in advance for any input.

Its a great phone. Very fast and good battery life. I dont have the 4G version but the nexus s is a great phone. You won't be disappointed if you get it.

only for 50$..Okay..take it..!

Or you could wait until the Galaxy Nexus comes to Sprint. I'm not a big fan of committing to a 2 year contract on a year old phone.

NS4G should be free w 2 yr contract on most sites. I would, however, wait until Galaxy Nexus comes out if I'm getting a 2 yr contract. Spoke to a Sprint rep few days ago and he stated that Galaxy Nexus should be out in June.

There's no way my bro would wait till June haha. His Hero is on its last legs and he's trying to spend as little as he can on a new phone. He would be getting an upgrade as an existing customer, I don't see anywhere that is free with 2 yr unless you're a new sprint customer.
Thanks for the input so far.

I've been fairly pleased with the NS4G, having come from the heroc. It will definitely feel like an upgrade. I would definitely recommend checking other sites though just to see if you can find it cheaper. I do think that the $50 is a fair price though.

I got my Nexus S4G for free at best buy that was in late September & just recent sprint was doing them free on 2 year look around make a few calls

I've had the Hero, Evo 4G and now this and I cannot recommend the nexus s 4g. The signal and reception issue are bad. I can hold my phones side by side and tell the difference.

Pick up one used on Craigslist if you can; I paid $120 for mine. Lots of ICS love for this phone. I also have an Evo and the screen on the NS4G is smaller but beautiful.

well my brother got the galaxy s II epic 4g at a good price locally, thanks for all the input guys

If he's not going to root and he wants his phone to eventually be updated to Android 4.0 then I'd say Nexus S. I highly doubt the Epic 4G is going to be updated. The NS4G hasn't been yet but it will be.

Probably sooner than the ns4g

Nexus S is great

The nexus s is a really nice phone. I've had it for a few months and I will never move away from the nexus experience from now on.
But I would not get it on a 2 year contract as its already 14 months old. I would wait and get a galaxy nexus if you can afford it.
But if your low on funds and $50 is all you can spare I very much doubt you would be disappointed with it

Switch to Nexus S ??!

Hey guys. I'm strongly considering getting rid of my inspire on at&t in favor of the nexus S. I'm looking for fast and reliable in nyc without lte so I'm drawn to this device. I also like cm7 support. Unfortunately, my time with the captivate has left a bad taste in my mouth towards Samsung. Before I make the switch I was wondering if you guys had any advice for me. If the reviews aren't so great I may consider the droid charge as well even though its lte and will likely not have cm support. I've just had enough with at&t. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance!

i don't understand. The Nexus S is already out, so you can buy it for T-Mobile, Sprint or AT&T (unofficially). There's nothing new to review here.
Pick a carrier, then pick a phone. The Nexus S is going to be on all BUT Verizon.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I want to move to sprint, and the nexus is the phone I've zero'd in on. Just wanted to know if it was a good choice. My new carrier of choice is Sprint or Verizon.

I think the Nexus 4G is awesome. If you get it, you don't have to worry about upgrading OS, etc. Nexus One and now Nexus S are absolutely terrific for getting the pure Google experience, which I think is waaay better than anything else.
That's what I was thinking. I like the updates from Google and I love Vanilla. I think it will be the perfect mate to my xoom. This weekend I'm going to make it to a sprint store and take it for a spin...

I would recommend picking up this device, I picked it up this past weekend and WOW! The first day I was kinda on the fence about it, but after a couple of days with it, my Epic seems like a slug!
The GPS locks on in less than 3 seconds, unlike 3 minutes for the Epic, which is nice.
I'd say go for it!
Chris
yea i definitely would. i went from Atrix to Nexus S on AT&T and it's just NICE having the latest OS.

I feel your pain with the epic. My captivate was just as bad. The inspire is just as good with GPS locks but again the web speed is terrible. Good to see there are no major issues with the nexus s.

Its funny but the GPS for the T-mobile nexus S I bought from Bestbuy had horrible GPS lock times that made me not want to spend the money on the At&t version. I even updated it to 2.3.4 and still dint see a difference. I didn't get to root the phone to try out roms but I'm afraid to spend the money and have the GPS not work for me. By putting a custom rom do you guys find the GPS lock time better? I don't know if I should just wait for the Galaxy SII or just get the nexus s since I did love the size of it and overall feel.. decisions decisions... lol
Yes its a good choice to get the Nexus S on Sprint's network. Cheaper plans than Verizon. Plus, Nexus is a pretty sweet phone. Fast and a wonderful screen.

Of all the phones I've owned (and I've owned A LOT). The Nexus phones are right at the top of the list. I liked the EVO, but pure Google is pure awesome.
Yup my mind is made up. Going to check out this phone over the weekend.

[Q] [OVER]-Moving to Verizon

Well, I must say that it has been a good eleven years with T-Mobile. However, as of today, I have moved to Verizon Wireless.
As you all know, that means that I will no longer be able to use my Nexus S. I decided to pick up a Droid Charge since it was the closest thing to the Nexus I could find.
I need to get rid of my Nexus S, and I would like some input on a fair price to sell it for.
USED
VERY FEW COSMETIC FLAWS(Kept phone in case until two months ago)
Thanks for any input you may have!
Maybe u can sell it for 150 on Craigslist. Try lookingvit up and seecwhat they go for.

Yep... agree. I would check craigslist in your area and feel out the market. Prices differ from city to city.

An announcement doesn't mean release date. There's been speculation it wouldn't come to other carriers until later in the year anyways.

That's why I left sprint lol. That and their BS 69.99 unlimited plan that required a $10 fee for data. I was fine with it until they took away yearly upgrades. Oh and the salesmen flat out lie. And when I went in to cancel I tried to pay my etf and was literally told "if you pay what you owe then our system will get messed up and will think you still owe" so they're stupid to boot. Tmo people are at least honest with their lack of real knowledge. I go into my local store occasionally to see the new phones and play with them and they always ask me questions about rooting and roms.

Nexus S 4G this week or wait for Prime?

Thing is idk if prime is coming to sprint rumors say november 3rd for verizon 23rd for att and idk for att and sprint,or if it does idk when, what should I do?

Wait for the Oct 11th Samsung + Google announcement and make a decision then. Hopefully more details will emerge there (carriers, release dates, etc) that can help you to make that decision instead of just guessing.
Today, Ill say Nexus S.
On 12 October, Ill say Nexus S.
Wait for prime, nexus s is almost a year old.

I really wish people would stop calling it Nexus Prime. It's not a Transformer, and we already had a Nexus One, and since 1, 3, and 7 are Prime Numbers, it sounds "cool and all" but one just knocks it off its feet. Wow, I need to not be so angry about this.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_thirteen_Transformers#Nexus_Prime
I know about the announcement but I dont have a phone right now, b/c my dad canceled the service with tmobile, b/c of att, and I was in vacation and he is lettting me go to sprint, problem is just because google is announcing it does not mean it will come to sprint soon, and im getting impatient lol plus maybe I should buy a nexus s 4g and return it within 30 days if the prime is out

Nexus S is a solid phone with great development and official ics. If you are going to root your phone and start crackflashin', this phone would be great, but if you're going to use it stock, it will be still great with official ics.
