tablet question - General Questions and Answers

i am thinking of getting a tablet to play avi movies onto a hd tv. will this work? i currently use a portable harddrive to store them and play them via a dvd player with a usb connection, action scenes slow down and become jerky though. i was thinking of either a new laptop with hdmi out or a tablet, the tablet will be more discreet and easy to move around. can i use for the purpose i need?
also will i be able to access the portable storage via the tablet to transfer files easily?

does anone know about tablets? or where i can ask?
to clear up what i am looking for:
A tablet that has hdmi connection and will play video files to a hdtv.
Be able to read and rite to a 2.5 portable harddrive
Has decent screen resolution

Xoom has HDMI out good screen and plus avi with a market app like qqplayer. No idea about hdd though
You'll probably better off getting a laptop if that's all you want it for though.

Xoom or Galaxy Tab?

I'm in the market for a tablet but am uncertain of which one of the 2 I should get. What do you guys think?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
The Galaxy tab is the better of the two but i would really recommend you spending the (maybe) extra $100 and getting a Transformer Prime, it's the thinnest and most powerful tablet of the market
xoom, but wait til xoom 2 comes out, it will be amazing!
Looking at the transformer right now...
When is the xoom 2 coming out?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
The Xoom 2 is already out. It's called the Motorola Droid Xyboard in the US, and the Xoom 2 everywhere else in the world. The Xoom 2 is NOT a Google Experience device like the original Xoom was. It's full of Motorola and Verizon bloatware and I believe it has a few UI customizations too. It's not stock Honeycomb.
If having a Google Experience device matters to you (meaning having all the latest updates and using Android in vanilla form as Google made it), then get a Xoom. If that doesn't matter as much to you, then get a Galaxy Tab or an Asus Transformer Prime.
I personally have a 4G LTE Xoom and love it.
That's actually very good information... thanks for that...

Depends, When your being attacked by a man for what ever reason, which tablet would you think will be able to knock him out and still be usable?
Durability is my #1 requirement when buying a tablet.
The Xoom is only a Google experience device if it is sold in the states otherwise it's a tablet that's a few versions behind.
The transformer, while not a google experience device it is really quick on updates like it gets them within a month-ish of being released. That may not seem fast but it has consistently been the most quickly updated tablet and the only skin on it is changing the look of the buttons on the device.
Vote for Galaxy tab

Anyone test out both? Isn't the Xoom a bit on the heavy side? And I've heard that the gt feels cheap...

+1 for the Galaxy Tab. I bought this for my wife for Christmas and she loves it. The only downfall that I can point out is: 1) No USB port, 2) No external memory.
But hey, if you have dropbox, or a wifi connection, USB isn't needed. And just make sure you get enough internal memory to last you.
+1 for the Galaxy Tab.
Compare the specs and hardware of the Xoom against the Acer Iconia , more bang for the buck with Acer, and you can find them for $250 ish
I like how the movies play more in a wide screen format compared to the Ipad and Xoom...and XDA does have pretty robust forum.
The Iconia does beat the rest on port selection; its left edge is home to a 3.5mm headphone jack and a mini-HDMI port, while the right side holds full-sized USB and Micro USB ports. Under the port cover on the top you'll find a MicroSD card slot, taped-over SIM card slot, a rather stiff volume rocker, and a rotation lock switch. The USB 2.0 port is certainty a bragging right for the Iconia,

Also, faced with the same question, my money went (today) on a Xoom. My wife's playing on it right now, while I post from my ancient dell latitude running Ubuntu. It's not even the latest ver of Ubuntu. What's up with that?
John
Xoom. I tried it in a local store yesterday and I loved the pure Google experience. I also tried the Xoom 2 but it had Motoblur including all the icons which made it look bad in my opinion. I'm the type of person who likes the pure Google experience. The Galaxy Tab is too similar to an iPad in my opinion and I don't like Touchwiz either.

The Galaxy tab is the best tablet

hmm your input please?

Sup everyone want to ask you a question in my decision of a tablet. Well i recently bought a kindle fire and after a using it with cm7, ive really liked using android and a tablet. So im thinking of upgrading to a another tablet with better specs and bigger screen. I was looking at the asus transformer tf101 and acer a500 cuzz there both in my price range used. So which is better? Should i buy either one, hold out for something upcoming or stick with the fire. I was sold on asus tf101 because it got the ics update.
Hmm That;s great
Well from a quick google search, the a500 looks a bit cheaper than the other one. I'd just ask myself if ICS is worth the extra money. It really depends on what you use your tablet for. You may be fine just keeping the fire.
the evo view looks pretty good...all depends on your carrier doe
iPad 3.
I personally like the HTC Jetstream and Flyer. They are very nice devices.

I am with the friend here but I believe that the ICS is sure worths the extra bucks...this is the point here, if you get the ICS tablet then you should be closer to happening now android things...
Asus 101 had it loved had to sell it Acer is super thick wouldn't go that route plus t.f. can be a laptop if needed
Sent from my XT875 using xda premium
I've used both and I like the Acer A500 more. They both are the same spec, the Acer build quality is good actually.
The Transformer can be a laptop, but to me its pointless because it is a tablet and if I wanted to buy it for laptop ability then I would have bought a Windows laptop to run Microsoft Office or other heavy desktop program that Android can't.
The real reason I prefer the A500 is that it has a fullsize USB on the device itself, this is a big win. But the Asus sliding tablet has both a slideout keyboard and USB which beats them both in term of functionality.
USB is nice however you can buy a USB host and your good Acer seemed way to thick compared to Asus imo

Flyer definitely!!!1
Also the galaxy 10.1 2 is coming out soon sent with ics
Sent from my XT875 using xda premium
If you are looking for a used tablet with the future capabilities of ICS and want a quality tablet then I recommend the current Galaxy Tab 10.1 which is set for an ICS update in the future. Its a nice device...
Personally I wanted to get an Acer Iconia, But when I saw the Asus Transformer TF101 I decided it was the one. Bought the dock a week later. and now with ICS out and being developed its gotten alot smoother
Asus transformer all the way
Sent from my R800i using xda premium
I would go for the transformer (or prime if you can afford it) because a) ICS and b) the keyboard attachment is really great
Why not take you Kindle Fire you have now and try out some of the ICS Roms? I mean some of them dont have HW Acceleration but the devs working on them should get that working anyday now! I have a Kindle Fire w/ ICS and it is amazing!
I've invested $200 into HP Touchpad
10" 1.2 MHz duo-core machine, overclockable.
Waiting for ICS beta for it

[Q] Cheap/Decent Tablet?

Hey guys, yes I'm a noob considering I'm new to these forums. I'm looking for a tablet but I'm on a budget. Heres my pricing: $0.00 to $300.00 (Will go higher if its a REALLY good deal.)
I like to play my apps such as zenonia.
I have been looking at the blackberry playbook and that is my primary choice right now as I can root it and get Android market on it.
What do you guys suggest for me?
Check out the Acer Iconia or the Motorola Xoom. Amazing performance + lots of dev support, unlike the Playbook
Hit THANKS if I helped u

What Tablet is Best For My Use?

I'm also looking for a tablet with USB 2.0 so I can plug my flash drive and copy data from it directly on my tablet.. And also I would like to plug my tablet to projectors so I can present my slide..
So far I've came with Acer Iconia A500.. It has a USB port to copy data and HDMI port to connect to projectors (maybe with HDMI VGA converter?)..
Is there any other tablet better than that with functionality I mentioned above?
Thanks
For badassery, get the ASUS Transformer or if you need a cheaper tablet that still handles well but with very little dev support, the Toshiba Thrive is great too.

Don't know if you have bought a tablet yet but I have a Toshiba thrive and I think it's awesome...Once rooted and custom rom its decently fast and smooth. The full ports are very very useful for me but if you aren't going to use the ports then really there is no point to the thrive and it's obesity.

Best tablet under 400$

Hello!
I want to buy myself a tablet. This would be my first tablet! I want to know what would be the best tablet that cost less than $ 400, or at least around $ 400!
I use a tablet to play games, watch movies .. and that's all.
Of course, some broswing. I thought I take Nexud 7 32 GB + 3 G. After, I found the Asus Transformer 300 and I was thinking and Nexus 10. I would not want to encounter any lag, and personally I'd like Nexus 7 for several reasons. What do you say?
P.S. I saw the Asus Transformer 300 resolution is pretty small, exactly like the one on the Nexus 7.So, a 10“ tablet have a 7“ tablet resolution...I read that still see colorful, vivid and beautiful. Why should I buy?
Thanks so much!

Hey,
Are you looking for a "branded" tablet?
I sold a lot of tablets over the Christmas period, all China tablet and I must say there are some pretty impressive machines out there for far less than $400..

I think Google Nexus 7 32 GB is a nice Tablet. Google offered Nexus 7 in 8 GB and 16 GB storage options. Now the company has axed the 8 GB model and instead added new 32 GB on-board storage offering model. You can read full article:

I would say go with the Nexus 7, great device to get introduced to the tablet market, easy to use, comes stock with Jelly Bean so it'll be smooth. It's up to you if you want the 16 or 32 gb version, if you're like me and use alot of cloud based applications (i.e Netflix, Dropbox, Drive, Spotify) then i would say go with the 16 gb version, 32 might be a bit overkill. But if you store movies, music, photos etc. on the device definitely go with the 32 gb version.
If you buy the 16 gb version and run out of storage you could buy an OTG cabel and connect a USB drive to it and voila, infinite storage!
So yeah, I would say the Nexus 7 is a good tablet for you (and everyone else)
Ok! Thank you
But I‘m from Romania and i want this tablet from Google Play Store.
What to do?

Best choice is definitely the Nexus 7.
Avoid the Chinese/unbranded tablets running android, they are pretty good but the lack of support, roms, mods etc will make you bored of it very soon after you buy it.
Nexus 7
Why
Because its Cheap Fast and its Google so you always have the latest android first
(china tablets doesnt always have propper software on the hardware)
