It's for wiping /system, /data, and /cache. It also converts system back to ext3. It works on Gingerbread also. I don't recommend it. Just manually wipe through CWM Recovery.

Thanks for the info

Is that ALL it does?
Is that really required?
Have people become so lazy that they need this?
Or am I missing something here?
Before I flash a new ROM, I always (manually through clockworkmod recovery) wipe data, system, cache, dalvik.
Or does this do something else?

I "wrote" it. Yes, it is really that simple.
The truth is, of course, nothing is done in a vacuum. I was heavily inspired by BackToExt3 for the 2x by PaulOBrien. Of course, the g2x has some differences so it's not the same script, but basically does the same thing.
Yes there are other ways to do the same things, but once you have the script on your sdcard, it's the fastest way to wipe -- even for experienced users.
However, if your file systems were fully converted to ext4 (not just mounted as), and you want to flash to a bone stock rom without ext4 support, this script takes care of all the steps.

I added my thanks because it saves a lot of button pushing and possible errors when doing a lot of rom testing. It sounds like some others had bugs too which scares me. I'm also grateful for not having to do a lot of additional hunting for more info on proper cleaning for the "safest" flash.
So thanks again.

ROM Manager

Hey I was just browsing the market and decided to invest in Rom manager (used it religiously on my old Droid 1). Lo and behold we don't even have a cwm listed!
What needs to be done to have some of these roms I see on this board listed in that App?
Thanks and sorry for the noob question. (We need a Q and A board.)

You really should've looked a little as it's mentioned a billion times, BUT...
Just install CWM for the Galaxy S i9000, works perfect.

You would want to check all 3 if it is your first flash, that way if something goes wrong you have a backup to restore, and the other two need to check because they are cache for your original rom, not the new one.
It's worth doing the backup of your stock setup.
Wiping the data isn't necessary unless you are a stickler about starting "fresh".
Dalvik cache wipe never hurts.

If you are coming from stock, you need to wipe all. It can cause issues, i have seen it. You get lots of force close, stuff that is removed from stock would still be there, which could also cause problems. Its better to do a full wipe when going from stock to a custom rom, and when switching custom roms.
I think I made a mistake, it reboot into recovery and I guess I was to wipe data and cache then reboot into cyanogen rom, but I did not wipe data and cache, Now it froze on me. What can I do, Did I just brick my phone?

Is anyone over here using 4EXTRecovery?

I've been rocking it this evening and it's pretty cool. It is particularly refreshing not to have to jump through hoops when restoring an EXT4 file system that gets downgraded with CWM by default to EXT3. Props to the dev of this. This is great work.
I'm rocking 4EXT right now. Very convenient. Ask the features of CWM with the added benefits of everything else

I did that to my ROM that was supposed to be EXT4 but was using a Nandroid so it was "downgraded" to EXT3. Didn't have any issues at all, but the ROM I'm running is supposed to be EXT4. Check your ROM dev's stats and see what file system the cache is supposed to be is one suggestion.
Converted cache fine on ninja 0716

You're welcome. I was just over in the Desire threads poking sticks in the bushes and ran across this. I've been flashing stuff...just so I can use it . No errors at all for me, and reformatting my partitions to the file systems they should be is a snap.
I just installed it a little bit ago. I've only been rooted for a few days and don't 100% know what I'm doing yet, but it installed without a hitch and seems cool. I'm trying to change the theme on mine, but it's not working exactly as planned.
Just install the zip file through recovery and depending on which version you are using you will either have to reboot the phone back into recovery to see the changes or if you are on 2.11b it will reboot for you.

I think any version will reboot its self as long as the person who made the theme set it up.to do so.

Yeah just download the theme to your SD card, do not unzip. Boot into recovery and then select instal from SD card, find file and click yes. It will reboot back into recovery and then your good to go!

[SCRIPTS] [Updater-Scripts] EFS-backup, Clean_Wipes, Wifi Fix

Hey Guys. (THESE HAVE ONLY BEEN TESTED BY ME ON GB 2.3.6)
I have put together a collection of updater scripts for my own use. I think they will be helpful.
They are a work in progress...I may need some more testers or feedback.
I wasn't sure if these belonged in the Themes/apps or Q/A. I guess mod can move if appropriate.
If more needs come up, I can try to fix or do something else.
1. The EFS_Backup will back up your EFS into a tar file that can be restore via Odin, Heimdall or extract/copy/paste in the even you lose your EFS on a bad flash. It will be handy to have. I know it works because I tried it several times. You only need 1 or 2. It will make a file on your /SDCARD/EFS_BACKUP/
2. Clean_Wipe: This contains multiple layers of delete of old systems files, data files, cache files, dalvik files and any other left overs from a previous ROM. Hopefully flashing this before you flash a ROM will wipe all traces of previous ROM to give you a clean slate. This will not erase your SDcard or microSD card.
DO NOT FLASH THIS unless you are ready to flash a ROM or have a ROM on your SDcard. If you tried to reboot without flashing a ROM, all you will see is a pretty bright white Samsung logo.
Ideally this will eliminate the need to jumping around in CWM trying to manually erase everything.
3. Bluetooth_fix. Ideally this would restore the infuse BT function bases on UCLB3 files. Flash it. Fix permission and reboot. It seems to work for some but not others...I don't know why yet. This is tested on INFUSE NATIVE ROM only..I DONT BELIEVE THIS WILL WORK ON MIUI or CM7. I have no idea what that will do. If I get more understanding, I will make revisions if needed.
4. Wifi_Fix: After flashing some ROMs, some people have wifi issues. Dropping etc. I have suspected that it is due to left over from previous ROMs or problems with multiple writes during cache build. I'm not sure. I have not had this happened to me over some many attempts to borked it. I wrote this up as an attempt to delete the broken configuration and force a new file generation.
I tried it on mine and it does just that. However, not being broken before, I can't tell if if will fix your borked wifi connection. The current best fix is reseting your router or changing the DHCP time - which in essense, forces your phone to produce a new configuration. This may save you a walk to your router log in and changing the DHCP.
edit: (3/28/2012) This may not fix more long standing wifi issues some users are having. It may fix the log on/drop off scenario.
Again...my disclaimer is that this is for development purposes. I have tried them all...I can make no warranties on them or their safety on your phone.
I hope you can find them useful.
Feedback is welcome...good or bad...so I can learn some more.
I like the practicality this has.

Thanks..one more confirmed working.
The idea I had in the wipe script is that sometimes a complete wipe is not needed. One may want to save some data. In vagabond, I had put in complete wipes to ensure first time installation success... that got tedious after frequent set ups when I was testing. If I set up another build, no wipe will be in the ROM. The end user can decide. I thought this would be useful for others as well switching between ROMs without the hassle of navigating in cwm.
thanks qkster
the Clean Wipe is it just a faster way to wipe data/wipe cache/wipe dalvik? is it better then going odin or Heimdall?

It's faster than trying to jump around in cwm wiping everything. It will ensure a 99% clean..I'm leaving the last 1% for the idk moment. For most instances, it will suffice.
I use Heimdall or Odin only when I need to fix a boot loop, system file error, partition corruption or if I thought the problem came from using a froyo base with a gb rom.
I really like this idea. The wipe file is genius.

Anyone tried a wipe script?

Just wondering if anyone has fished for a good working wipe script?
I used one left on my SD from flashing an htc glacier (aka mytouch4g).
Ever since using that script before flashing roms everything has been much more.............umm let me put it this way, I'm seeing much less common sgs4g gremlins popping up.

Roms with my AROMA installer will do all your wipes for you, no questions asked. If you do a quick install, or a customized install without a /data backup you'll have a fresh install on a newly wiped phone.
OK, just wondering because I see a lot of other devices where people tell you to use a wipe script or I've even seen some that ask you to wipe all parts 3x in a row and other crazy stuff.
Maybe its just a placebo then
