hi everyone,
this is actually directed to Jscott, regarding the ethereal last build 1.2
my question is:
I was using your stock at&t gb with root and cwm.
specifically your option 3 in the threar you posted over in development,
a few days ago ive been using the ethereal rom v1.2
ive been experiencing some differences vrs the stock gb uclb3.
is it possible that battery life is shortened with your rom?
could this be because of the kernel change? (stock has entropy's dd, ethereal infuzion core a)
lets assume kernel could be the cause, is it possible to flash entropys kernel into the ethereal rom? would it affect its performance?
lidroid toggles work partially in some cases, like flashlight wont turn on sometimes.
can the rom have issues regarding the response of the screen, in some cases it seems to fail to respond. have to push my finger a lil bit more to the screen.
im very new to this area of flashing roms and stuff. just wanted to say ethereal is very cool, you did a very nice job with this! thanks!
Since you directed your question to..the op of this ROM, question relayed....

Glad you're enjoying Ethereal. I'll tell you a little "secret". Ethereal is Option C from the Odin UCLB3 packages I put together. A few images and graphical values have been changed to make it look more custom, the launcher has been changed to AOSP, and lidroid toggles have been added. If lidroid toggles get a little wonky, as they have from time to time in most custom roms, a reboot should clear things up. As for battery use, I've had about the same for both stock and Ethereal. Most have reported good battery stats on the rom, but your mileage may vary based on how you use the phone and what apps you use. You may notice a slight difference when using Entropy512's daily driver kernel, as it was designed to provide good battery life. You can flash it with this rom if you would like to test. If you aren't comfortable flashing kernels, you may want to give Zen Arcade's Infuse Toolkit a try. It gives the option to try different kernels.

Thank you jscott...
your response much appreciated!
can I flash the kernel same way as in the post you made about using different kernels?
it's impressive it is option c. in performance they have alot of difference, ethereal has no lag whatsoever.
thats why I was asking if I change to entropy512 dd from infuzion, would that affect ethereals performance?

I personally get good performance with Entropy512's daily driver and Ethereal, and you can use any of the kernel flash methods (easiest being SGS Kernel Flasher from the Play store).

I've changed the kernel with sgs kernel flasher, gonna give it a shot how it goes. Where can you see what version of kernel the phone is using? I've tried in settings/ about phone, but that doesnt seem to change. Im not a heavy user like gaming and alot of texting, I just feel, what would you consider good battery life?

You can see the kernel information in Settings / About Phone. The kernel info is the same for both Zen's Infusion-Z and Entropy's Daily Driver since they are based on the same kernel. For battery life, I can get about a day and a half if I hardly use the phone. With moderate use, I have to plug it in when I go to sleep each night. That's about as good as I get for battery life on stock, on UCLB3 based custom roms, and on CM9. This is with keeping the phone in airplane mode and with wifi on when there is bad cell reception. This phone eats up battery when it searches for cell towers and can't find one. I also keep my screen as dim as possible, unless I'm outdoors, keep GPS off unless needed, and keep auto-rotation off unless needed. If I have a day where I use the phone heavily, and the screen is on for several hours at a time, I get about eight or nine hours, but top it off at work or in the car to make it through the day. This is pretty average for most modern smart phones.

Yeah thats right, everything is working quite alright with the kernel. seriously congrats on this Rom, works pretty damn good, i like how fast it is compared to the stock touchwiz based rom.

That's about it. If you like Ethereal, it's worth flashing 1.3 as this is the final release.
Ethereal
Love the mod , keep up the good work
Should follow same procedure as installing a new Rom right?

Jscott, I have another question regarding the signal and h+ icons, for some reason in some cases it uses the stock icon for h+ and later it changes back to the blue h+ icon modded into the rom, is there a way this never switches between stock and Rom edited icon. Appreciate your help, thanks!

Yeah, I've seen this also. The only way to make that not happen is if I go in and change the remaining stock icons to match the ones that I've already modified. I'll get to that eventually.
Ok ill have to wait on that tweak! Thanks!!

Just fixed this, by the way, and will get an update out in the next day or so. There are a few other things I want to work on before putting out another release.
According to the OP, the torch is supposed to be a working feature. However, I have not been able to get mine to work at all. Was just curious if this was an oversight or something I should correct on my device?
Additionally, I would like to know what a safe and stable OC speed would be for my Inspire 4G.... I'm a bit of a speed-freak but do not want to jeopardise anything.

Are you sure your camera LED's are in good working condition? Speed wise, you can overclock it to almost anything you want. If it is overclocked too much, your phone will just freeze and you might have to format everything to ROM default to get out of it. I think you can go up to 1.2 if I remember correct. I always underclock my ROM so that it saves on battery.
EDIT: I found out that it is an issue with the ROM, follow this thread in DHD, you might need a different kernel.

Also, I'm still playing with safer speed limits but the difference has made my lead thumbs a little happier. 1420 looked good lol.
As for the torch, I'm too up to my neck with commissioned artwork to reflash so I'll use the lazy fix and use my video flash/LED if I just must have one.

To go back to the thing about Torch, it its working in the 2.0 release and the test 2.4 release as well. I recommend the 2.4, it has better battery life.
I'm just wondering if people are using the leaked radios/rpm or an older one.

Most are using the leaked, but if it gives you worse reception that what you were on then go back to a previous one. The only way to know which radio works the best is by testing them yourself. Most people have found the newest leaked radios work best on the newest leak, which is what cleanrom 4.5 is based off of, but some people have said older radios worked better. Its all about your location, reception and phone, everyone's phone is a little different .

I'm here to discuss these 3 radios, want to hear people's experiences and thoughts on compatibility with ROMs and kernels.
My particular reason for interest is in flashing the King Kangers One .12 Kernel, my current radio (UCLK4) suddenly became (unknown) and my immediate thought was incompatibility, so I flashed UCLI3 back n I was all gravy. Now I wonder if re-flashing UCLK4 after the kernel would fix the problem. I also wonder if (assuming that its actually a compatibility issue) anyone can specify other incompatibilities for kernels and ROMs/versions, etc. Just want to learn and also hear from people about their personal takes on the development as a whole and expand my knowledge.
I do plenty of reading and we all know there's a bunch of stuff to read so covering all of it is difficult. Plus I'd love the opportunity to share the conversation and thoughts with you wonderful people as I progress
I'd like to express my thanks in advance to those who share with me.

ROM: CvD-Nibbles
Kernel: King Kangers One .12
Radio: UCLI3
Recovery: twrp2
Good topic and useful..I don't know why it didn't catch attention..!
Right? I even took the educated and respectable approach. Ahh well at least I didn't get flamed like this is a "best radio" post.
On topic: I have had best luck on CvD's Nibbles 1.5 using uclk4. Ucli3 was horrible and uclf6 was off and on. Haven't tried uclk4 on any other ROMs but cm10 I used ucli3 flawlessly and same on slim bean

You mean UCLC4 ? I heard about that radio being good from numerous people, isn't that an old radio came out with the first ice cream sandwich leak ? didn't try it to be honest but might do it someday..UCLF6 was fine with me in data and signal,UCLI3 is bad when it comes to calling and about the same on data..UCLL3 looks promising in both!
PS: Bell's radio MUGLH2 is good on signal and louder call volume..but it doesn't work with the jb leaked roms...
No its UCLK4, its built into aroma installer for CvD's Nibbles ROM. Its the newest leaked radio I believe. I might be wrong but I got the radio right. Seems to be pretty stable. With nibbles in particular it works the best as I said. But I did just read about UCLL3 and I got curious

There are no dumb questions. Just make sure you search first. You won't always find what you need so here goes helpwise. What sort of issues are you having, and what kernel/radio do you have. I'm guessing its all the baked in goodies but just to be sure list your issues and baseband so we can all put serious faces on and make noises like "hmmm" out loud and stare intently at the screen I'm still new to this but I catch on quick and I've been studying all these things. I love it when I can be helpful.

Indeed a solid radio, and my current ROM as well, I just keep having the same issue. APN loss, so no connections. I don't know how it happens. Possible juice defender was the culprit. Haven't had it happen since that got unins. I did a few things though so I can't be sure.

Hi guys,
Just wondering what the best modem for my area is? I live in New Jersey/NYC area. Currently have the KJ6 modem. Is this the best or is there a better one? (especially for gps, thanks!).
Try the different ones and see. Everyone has different experiences. I, and many, are using the LB6 modem in my sig. As for GPS, there are some GPS fixes out that do wonders, although myself and others found the LB6 modem to be helpful in good GPS connections.
As I said, try them out. You can't hurt anything on your phone flashing a modem (usually, lol, I make no promises) What ROM are you currently trying?
In my experience, lb6 stays on 4g a lot kg4 uses 4g when necessary kd1 is stable too. All 3 are great. If lb6 gives u any probs... go to kg4 then kd1
