[Q] banishing ICS blue? - HTC Sensation

HI all,
First post, so please be gentle with me!, I have been lurking here heavily for a couple of months since getting an android phone, and have to say it's a fantastic resource for getting the most out of android....
Now, on to the question.... I've played with various ROMs on my sensation XE, and love the functionality of ICS over GB but one thing that really really bugs me is ICS blue everywhere, it just clashes so badly with the red buttons on an XE....
I've been hoping I'm not the only one with this hangup and someone might release a sensation ICS ROM with different colours (either the green from GB, or even better an olive green!)....
Failing that it's a case of DIY I guess, I've been trying to figure out how, and think I'm beginning to get a handle on it but still havent found time to get my hands dirty (I'm new to android, but in another life 15 years ago was a unix sysadmin, so a lot of this is kinda familiar but half forgotten and still a lot to learn!)...
Now I've found some references to what would need changing in the ICS systemui and framework, guess I should find time to try it, but if there is someone with more experience that would like to see this, maybe they could lend me a hand or advice when it all goes pear shaped!?

Has Development slowed down!

Is it me or has development slow down a bit! It seems it started out strong and lately we haven't seen much aside from Faux and CM updating their ASOP roms.
I mean we don't really have any themers either! I know if I could I would make some!
Coming from the Vibrant there was a lot of themes and dev going on!
Now I know it's been less than two months, but the way it started out I thought we would have more going on!
I guess maybe everyone is waiting on the GB update when ever we get it!
...
we waiting 2.3
gonna be here on 06/16/11
I hope GB gets here on 6/16 that would be the best B-day present I could get lol
I have a replacement unit coming the 22nd, I hope it comes with 2.3 already in it!
...
There are lots of themes. CM7 uses T-Mobile themes and they are downloadable in the market.
No reason to mod stock unless you install the cm theme support.
LG G2x CM7 2.3.4
couple things.
waiting for the gingerbread source from lg to insure everything needed will work. and dont want to release a rom at this point where i cant tell if reboots , wifi, 4g(whre it shuts down than takes a while to start again), as well as gps.
when these features are working on the phone as should than ill start the rom, but no care to spend days trying to figure out why something doesnt work when its the darn baseband that i cant mess with.
themes. the theming engine has taken over unfortunately. it does theme and is a lot easier for the themers(after they learn it) since 1 theme works on all roms. but its just not like the old days where every app was themed and such. some have taken time to write scripts and such so they can make a better more inclusive theme with it , but most of the themes for it are color changes and icons not full themes with every app themed as we were use to . I know several of the themes that are on my rom for the droid would never be able to be as complete through the theming engine. but it does ok just different. and does enable many more themes available to all roms. and its not like a this or that themes can still be made the old way. but with the old way you need to update the theme with every new build(framework) of the rom so since these roms are in constant change at this point i dont think many are spending time theming it. especially froyo.
Honestly I can't speak for everyone but I have to many projects going on and I don't want to release buggy roms to you guys. I have not stopped working but I would love to see 2.3 drop as it would be (hopefully) more stable in general as they had time to get the bugs out.
Look at it like this the more time we have to spend working on battery drivers the less time we have making good roms. LG did not tell even close to the truth as this was supposed to be a true google experience (MY ASS IT IS) so we already had to spend countless hours removing BS they left it from the O2X.
Anyways look for more stuff soon I am sure as currenlty I am working on my rom again and I know of other hidden stuff getting done. (sorry can't say what all it is yet)
Later.

LMAO I will give you a LG and T-mobile response.. It will be out before summer but that could be sometime before 2020
Seriously I wasn't trying to get your hopes up for one thing but just getting you guys to understand alot goes on behind the scenes and no one is quitting on you guys
yeah i know

i was gonna do a quick port of my rom for my own use but when i looked at the source code for g2x froyo-- it appears al they did was remove the instruction sets for the overlay of the o2x all that crud is in the framework and elsewhere and just seemed like to much hassle, so waiting for the gb and hopfully a more stable driverset and baseband.
or keep the life i actaully have now that was non existant for the 9 months i developed for the droid 1
maybe ill just leave it up to you

Personally I say the more the merrier as I really do care about the end users. I hope to see more people jump in even if it is only a rom modded by adding removing a few things as everyone has to start somewhere.
Anyone can use my rom as a base all I ask is some credit or atleast send me a pm.
And I will always try to answer any questions as long as I got the time
too true

more options are good.
my rom was called sourcery so it kinda had to be from source
i am not with the co0developer of that anymore so id have to comeup with another cool name. but still rather do from source than others base , but might use lg gb as a base if they release it.(hopefully without all the o2x crud) or let us make use of it 1 or the other.
but yeah all the initial launch build was is a o2x froyo themed rom.
have you played around with the animated pull down stuff. looks kinda cool and on the g2x it shouldnt hurt performance much. kinda something new.
I would love to see another rom made from source. I have been working on a 2.2 from source but not even close to being release ready as buggier then crap
Anyways I am sure the crack flashers would love another rom to try out
2.2.2

2.2.2 i think is not as stable as 2.2.1 i lost 200 on quandrant with it not sure why but from 2.2.1 same rom same mods.
Over all its ok. i released the 2.2.2 rom 3 days after the source was released. did a serious rebuild from scratch since i was about ready to release the 2.2.1
i remember i had a couple bugs i had to figure out that werent on 2.2.1 but i forget what they were .
you have any questions or need a little help drop me a pm.
ill help where i can.
this is a link to my rom since i think only people on verizon have ever heard of it

@tweezit I for one appreciate all the work you guys put into supporting this phone. I know it takes a lot of time and hard work. If seems some of us are impatient it's only because we are. Seriously, you are making a great device better and I thank you for it.
@Eagle1967 Just checked your Rom out and I would love to see a port...really slick stuff there...great app inclusions and love the blue/black theme.
I'm wading into this myself...been playing around with it but any kind of release is at least a couple month away...if ever. Really makes me appreciate what you guys do.
thanks

when i started i knew nothing. i started in august last year was late september before i actaully got my first build that completed and installed and ran and first release was on christmas so took a long time but i started with no knowlege of any of it. still not always sure what i do to make it work it just does
yeah it took 9 months of my life part of the reason i stopped(part ).. but it was fun and made me feel like i accomplished something. i cant believe how popular the rom still is since i havent really done anything with it since febuary but it was the first custom rom with froyo 2.2.2 and actually was for quite a while until some gave up on gingerbread and went back i think there is still only 1 other 2.2.2 rom for the droid though.
if you have any questions feel free to pm me. ill help you out if i can.

Hi guys

Sup xda, my names Bilal and this is my first time posting here. I do have a question though but I've got a lot I want to talk to you guys about
I got my tmobile mytouch 3g about 4 days ago. On the first day my cousin had already told me about this site and how beneficial it would be to me real soon xD. The next day I had already begun looking up important things i needed to know to end up with a custom rom on my phone. I looked up the specifications to my phone (like checking the radio and SPL versions) I found out my phone was a 32B and had new SPL and Radio. I found out the Roms that would be compatible with my phone as well as the method to go about doing it. the next 2 days basically consisted of my going through over like 15-20 different methods over my phone (but all of them basically had the same routine). I mean, you have to root it then get a custom recovery than flash the custom rom. But this is simplified as I'm pretty sure i searched and found 3-4 different ways for the simplified root recovery rom steps. Anyways it was real frustrating since I failed many times on all 3 steps . Anyways with the new SPL Radio 32b Mytouch phone 2.2.1 (since i idiotically upgraded it to 2.2.1) just flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0 about 30 minutes ago. Haha I'm so excited to see the possibilities.
I wanted to thank this whole site and the people from the unlockr because i searched a ton of guides and Google'd over 50 questions to figure out the process suited for me and even though it ended being extremely easy compared to the people who had to work hard to develop all the things involved in making Rom Manager, Clockworkmod and Armons Custom recoveries, and every easy step in the process that we take for granted. I didn't have a clue in programming scripting developing software or ROM's for anything before flashing my phone. After doing it I still don't have much of a clue even though I feel like I did learn a whole lot I know I'm way more interested in learning how things work.
You could have probably skipped this whole essay and went straight to the question though xD.
My question at this point was what exactly are all the possibilities (or some that I'm not aware of) that my phone has now that it has flashed cyanogenmod 6.1.0
One thing that I have definitely noticed and feel that alone, was worth the 4 days of tirelessly failing, is that my phone has become a lot faster, and I mean in everything that it does, from opening applications to loading videos on youtube. I know I could probably search this as well but I just wanted to advice directed towards me as far as what to do next? Ive been messing around with the themes (can only use ADW as far as I know) but was wonting to find a live unlock pattern screen? I found one on youtube and I'm 90 percent sure the guy had the exact same phone as me. Also any advice on details for upgrading the overall performance on my device would be great help.
Thanks guys glad to be here
Glad that you learned some stuff. Stay around here for a while and you'll learn alot more. Anyways, yes, there are many possibilities available for you. For one, I would advise updating to CyanogenMod 7. Just go here: http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-slide and choose a category to suit you. NB: The "Experimental" build category is not as "dangerous" as it sound. These build are actually Release Candidates which mean they are almost (if not) good enough to be a Stable build. Since you're just beginning, you may just want to use a stable build for now. But later on, you may change your mind. There are also many apps you may want to try like: SetCPU (to make your device even faster than it is now and/or to save battery life, Titanium Backup, Rom Manager, etc. ADW is NOT the only launcher you can use. It just came as the main launcher for your rom. There are many other launchers like Launcher Pro, etc. For the "live lockscreen pattern, you could try Ripple Lock (Honeycomb Lockscreen) or the sense 3.0 lockscreen found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1190071 . Cheers!

Is there an official reason for the MT4G Slide not getting ICS/JB?

Hey all,
I am not a modder. I prefer my device to be stock as much as possible - I know, not very XDA-like. I am not averse to doing it if necessary.
TMo gave me the MT4G Slide as a replacement device for the MT4G which was having issues. It seems that neither phones are getting an ICS/JB update (as HTC hasn't mentioned it on their list of phones officially getting the update).
I'm curious as to any hardware constraints that the Doubleshot may have to have lead to this decision. Some folks have mentioned the amt. of storage being the issue, but seeing as how these devices contain a 4GB chip and HTC has been quoted saying that this unusable space is due to GB and Sense, is this reason validated? Would ICS+Sense be that much more huge vs. GB+Sense as to not be able to fit in that ~2.5GB of space?
This has probably been a very badly beaten dead horse, but I did a search and couldn't really find anything referenced here on XDA. I see there's some moment on CM9 for the phone...but ultimately I want to know why HTC can't put ICS/JB on the device. It's an important factor in deciding to either stay loyal to the brand or move on to something different. I realize that it's an OEM (TMo branded phone) and that it may be up to TMobile to get it updated, which I'm assuming they would under their "no phone left behind" promise...maybe I assume incorrectly? TMobile hasn't said a thing on the matter.
I may go ahead and put CM9 on it once it's gone 100% stable.
Thanks.
It's not that they CAN'T upgrade to ICS/JB. They WON'T, for just about any reason you can make up. T-Mobile or HTC have not given any official word as to why not, so it could be due to anything.
Possible reasons include:
-Custom MyTouch skin
-T-Mobile holding the update back
-Our phone is essentially a commercial flop. Probably why they're not supporting it. Consequently, we're not a big enough community to make a difference anyway.
-They simply want you to buy another phone.
There is no physical reason they won't do it. Our phone has nearly the same internals as the Sensation 4G. It's still a high spec phone and can handle anything. Hardware is not the problem here. It's the higher ups.
I would like to add that if you don't want to wait, TBalden's Virtuious Inquisition has always been a rock solid ICS ROM for me. NEVER a hiccup even though there have been a few complain of an issue or two. But it will most likely always be that way with any ROM.....even the official releases.
There are a couple of ICSs by UndeadK9 on Rootz Wiki too that are slick. Then there is MikMiui ICS that is soooo close it's scary! KWIM? You HAVE choices right now.
ICS natively doesn't support Hardware Keyboards. That's why our device is under review by HTC/T-Mobile. HTC is willing to push an update, but T-Mobile has it on hold. So it's T-Mobiles fault, not HTC. How do I know this? Worked places, and have numbers.

Wow good topic I was just about to ask this because Ive been thinking about this for days now. Seeing the Galaxy 3 makes me crave that OS its really nice. I cant believe this phone flopped in the market its heaps good I love it, this with the droid look really solid with a slide out qwerty. So iffffff TMobile is holding out on the update is it possible that they will release it? or times gone by no chance of this? Im like the TC, Ive never modded a phone and dont know how to do it, but iffffffff I have to put ICS mod what is the best and closest to the real thing and is solid and does not have many bugs etc.? Like if this was your phone you are selling to the world which mod would you add to it? If TMob dont release one I might try attempting my first mod and if anyone can help me out with helpful links or pics as a walkthrough so I dont brick it much appreciated
As someone who spent a good deal of time with sense 4 I can say the only thing I miss from the mysense is the integrated visual voicemail. The positive changes out weighed the loss of the integrated vvm.

Archangel, if you do decide you want to root your device this is a fairly new but extremely comprehensive, simple & straightforward guide that will give you every bit of info you need to do that. Should you run into a problem, just come back with some specific questions about that parts you don't understand and "we'll git 'er done".
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
If I were to recommend an ICS ROM for you to cut your teeth on it would be TBalden's Virtuous Inquisition. http://www.virtuousrom.com/p/inquisition.html This one will let you see what you've been missing on your DS. Good Luck and have a BALL! :good:
If you're looking for a pared down, screaming fast & smooth version of your stock ROM.....MikTouch & BulletProof are VERY tough to beat. (both in the developers section) Just remember that any questions not directly related to a ROM function or issue should always go here in General.
What is the difference between the roms? Like compared to the Galaxy 3 does it have the slick icons that slide and glide easy from screen to screen? and I think its called the live wallpaper when you swipe left or right the image hovers? also kinda like that fish wallpaper they have that has the trickle effect is neat, I noticed the apps menus are different to the Mytouch and smoother. I dont know what you mean by fast, do some of the roms make the OS lag and jaggy?
Personally, I think of fast as responsive.....smooth as changing functions & desktops, etc. But to each their own in descriptive terms, I guess. As far as differences go, I'm not familiar with the Galaxy but each ROM really has a personality of it's own except maybe in comparing ports from other devices.
THAT'S why you will probably become like the rest of us......Flashaholics! LOL
Oh Yeah....then you have THEMES!

[Q] Current State of Rom's & Going Forward

I wrote out a whole post but realized it was mostly rambling so I figured I would condense it, although its still pretty rambling:
It seems like our phone (Maxx HD) just missed the developer bandwagon and that roms aren't really going anywhere and never actually will. Everything seems like a quick port and I have had very little success with most of them. The only stable one I have found has been Nexesque, although its basically stock with a few tweaks and add-ons.
I have been running XenonHD for the past 2ish weeks, 3 maybe with horrible battery life and a heat problem. I was running with all of the regular performance tweeks, a very dark blue (almost black) solid background, low brightness and a black theme so I have no idea what could have caused it. I would run out of full battery by 12 or 1 half of the time with an incredibly hot phone, and the other half of the time I could make it to 6 or 7 but no later. I have reflashed and am almost positive I followed the steps correctly.
I'm not asking what the best rom is, but I'm asking if there is a rom that people are actually happy with out there (preferably 4.2) or if there are any real hopes for a tangible one to come out in the near future. It seems like we're kind of screwed as the user when compared to other phones development, and while I have nothing to offer outside of small donations I would just like to know if my predictions are accurate. Is everybody waiting for something that will never come out?

To be honest I think you need to step back and put everything in prospective.hash dh etc are working on a from scratch kernel that will fix the nagging problems the 4.2.2 roms have had. This kernel is a work in progress, but I think it will be finished to a point acceptable to most people soonish. That being said, besides the annoying gps flash from stock issue and no camcorder I'm not sure there are any major bugs with the 4.2.2 roms. There have been a lot of ports because there are a lot of good roms out there for other devices that people wanted to bring over. We were "screwed" when we bought the phone as this phone had a locked bootloader(with no apparent unlock) and there were never a ton of devs to begin on moto due to the same bootloader issue. That being said, I think a lot of devs have rallied around the hd since the unlock and things will only get better after hash gets the kernel up to speed. I agree nexesque is awesome (it's what I'm running right now in fact) but there are already a lot of choices on each of the 4 most popular forums.
Tl/dr patience lol

I imagine that we will probably also get get an android update at some point (though very unclear what and when). Maybe this will renew developer interest in the device?
I the meantime I hope the kernel development will play out well.
Personally, even if I love personalization and community development, I actually think the stock rom (xt925 Vodafone) is quite good. Good battery life and better ui than much of the competition.

Sidekick 4G - practicing kernels help

Hey all,
So, over at the Sidekick 4G forums it is pretty much a ghost town. Some of you know this already, but as far as development goes, we are stuck on Froyo with a half-port of Gingerbread. Bad news, I don't think there is much going for us now, I haven't seen new posts for weeks.
I still love my Sidekick, and I recently acquired a couple extra devices to use, so I decided would like to try to make something myself.
YES, I kind of just dove in with this, and I have very minimal experience in code. (Some html and small jscript) But I really want to get this dang thing off of Froyo. It would be an amazing device on ICS or JB, I just feel it. And I know it has to be possible somehow right? The G1 has it, why not the SK?
Now, I have started looking into kernel development, and I have compiled a working Stock kernel for the Sidekick, and even figured out little things like disabling or enabling the boot animation. But what I really want to do....is climb out of the hole and try to port ICS to this device. I am a noob, I have MUCH to learn, but I have time on my hands. ;D
As far as building an ICS kernel for the phone, and hopefully one day an ICS rom for it, I am at a loss of ideas. I have done lots of searching already, found many tutorials, read them plenty of times. But I don't exactly know how to get on track... could I ask for some guidance?
Any response at all is appreciated
