[Q] wifi on skyrocket not roaming? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

my work has a number of access points that allow roaming. my evo would automatically roam and associate with the closest AP.
my skyrocket isn't doing that. i will associate with one AP and then go across the building (to even stand under another AP) but it hangs onto that old one. if i toggle wifi i then associate with the closest.
software bug i suppose? can anyone confirm or offer suggestions?

custom rom or kernel? mine does the same. I know when I was on stock wifi helper would open up as soon as I turned it on

current ics rom, no kernel changes. i didn't test it on stock rom.

do u have network notification turned on? a small oversight but possible. I also noticed that the wifi notifications I used together with stock disappeared when I flashed a custom rom, chef probably removed it

are you talking about "network notification - notify me when an open network is available" ? if so, no - i have always kept that off on all my phones.

try turning that on

yeah guys
it's not roaming if you're connected to wifi. I don't really know whats going on but I think it's fixed.

good to hear, flukes are always nice

tried that, no dice. i'm also having severe issues with data - my connection to at&t is extremely intermittent. i'm wondering if its the phone/radio at this point.

flash the kj2, telus or UCLA3 radio and test for a few days, see if that solves problem. If not, Odin back to stock and warranty that sucker

Help - Cm7 Update - G2x - No APN connection....

Hey Everyone,
Whenever I update to any version of cm7 and flash a new kernel with it I lose APN connectivity... I can't manually connect either. No 2g/4g nothing. Wifi is fine. I've tried multiple versions of cm7, etc. I don't have the same issue with Eagle 1.0.4 and/or Team Whiskey, flashing back to stock, etc. but anytime I try to check out CM7 I can't get it going! I figure it's something simple but does anyone have any ideas so I can try to get some OC going! Lol...
Thanks Everyone...

It's already been reported. A mod will move it shortly. Next time post in the Q&A section. This area is for Development only...hence the name.
Try it without the kernel.
- BFL
I've been recently having the same problem.
Not a problem, this was a question concerning development and more or less the roms I'm downloading from this section hence I posted it here... won't happen again.
As for flashing w/out the kernel, I thought you needed another kernel to run cm7 with? I'm trying to overclock basically which I can't do on the stock kernel either.... so I'm not really sure what to do but I'll see if I can flash back to gingerbread, get my data going and flash back to cm7 w/out using any new kernel... have to make sure the rom doesn't autoinstall the new kernel either when you flash the rom
Update the apn settings for t-mobile. You can find them online just by looking them up. Try that.

What works for me is a hard reboot. Hold volume up and power for 8 seconds. Apn should be there when you boot back up (usually). I have this issue with stock and any other kernel
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
SOLVED!
I had the exact same issue and fixed it by installing the SIM card that came in the GX2 box.
I had been using my Nexus One SIM up to that point. The T-Mobile customer service rep told me that the G2X needed the updated SIM card and that without it, there would be data issues when not on Wi-Fi.
Write the SIM card information down before installing it in the G2X and calling T-Mobile (or whoever is your service provider) b/c they need the serial number in order to properly provision the phone.

Worked like a charm!!! Thank you!!
Simple yet effective lol
Finally up and running on cm7 with no apparent issues to report!
Also I found out that going into settings, into the apn settings, pressing menu then reset to default seem to kick it outta limbo
Great info everyone, thanks!
I'm still working on getting the market up and running on cm7, but otherwise everything is running really clean!
Thread moved to proper forum.
I have the same issue, and only on CM7..
Other Stock roms work OK for 3G
I have 2 sims - one uses regular APN setting (supplied from simcard) the other one is manual
The one that uses default (simcard) apn worked once after first install..
Than doesnt work..
VOL up + power didnt do the trick..
Whenever I put the custom APN simcard, it doesnt apply the settings..
Very weird..
I'm using the SIM out of my G2x box. Maybe it helps a little but it still happens when coming from a reboot, wifi, or airplane mode.
When you go to Mobile Networks, it won't connect to any of the listed networks.
This is already known and discussed, but to put a solution to this thread:
Go into Mobile network.
Let it scan
Select ANY network, it will error
Select Automatic until it reconnects again
Done.
Once it reconnects, you should be able to go into APN settings and see "Simple" and "T-Mobile". Sometimes if you can you select "Simple" then select "Tmobile" again, it speeds things up.
Works EVERY time. Sucks it requires this most of the time but it only takes a second and will stay connected for as long as the phone is turned on.
Hard reset (VolUP+Power) didnt work..
Is it a problem with their firmware?
I require custom APN's on my Network operator -- stock (or eagle blood/team bionics) work great, but CM7 doesnt for some reason..
Cant figure out why..
Even 7.1 RC0

APN's won't stick until you do what I said above. Once you disconnected and reconnect, APN's should pop up. If you created your own APN, it should THEN be displayed.
Even customs APN's won't be displayed until you disconnect/reconnect using the methods above.

I feel like we're missing a step here. There isn't anything to select, unless you go under Network Operators or Access Point Names. APN is blank for me, so i can't select anything, and doing anything under Network operators doesn't work...

[Q] My wifi turns on and off

Hey there,
I'm having a weird issue with my stock Nexus S. I've tried a few custom roms, but after realizing that I was better off with stock, I flashed stock again... Now, I've noticed that sometimes, with the WiFi off, I would receive emails and Google+ notifications! It turns out that my wifi is turning on and off, and I don't know how!
I don't have, to my knowledge, installed a program that controls wifi(if you want, I can post my list of apps).
So, what's happening here? Anyone has any idea?
Thanks

You have the same issue? Can you post your list of installed apps? I seriously don't know what's going on!
This may seem really obvious - but have you double-checked that those notifications aren't coming in via your mobile network?
If you have Juice Defender (or something similar) installed, that might also be responsible for switching on your wifi periodically.

Nothing like that... I was just activating my alarm clock for tomorrow and the wifi came on, out of thin air! It shutdown in less than a second, too! And I did absolutely nothing!
Also, I don't have any app like Juice Defender
Ok, so I've flashed the stock rom, locked the bootloader, etc, and I thought I had solved the problem. I didn't, the thing keeps turning on and off!!
I'm seriously thinking about sending it for repairs
you could send it in to samsung or install some newer 2.3.5 kernels which seemed to solve any wifi issues i may have had. Android 2.3.5 made some changes to wifi signal strenght.

I have stock, and it's the regular nexus S, not the 4G one (so I haven't received 2.3.5 yet).
I'll try installing the 2.3.5 kernels and report back
check your advanced wifi settings.
by default they are set to turn wifi off when screen is off. so even if you have wifi on it will turn off when screen is off automatically.
menu>settings>wireless and network settings>wi-fi settings>menu(softkey)>advanced>wifi sleep policy>check the "never" radio button.

Roaming on CM7??

Flashed CM7 the other day (thanks again for the help Carmon!) and love it. Only issue I am having so far is...I've been unable to roam. I live in a fringe area, and normally roam on Verizon towers at home. I attempted *228 several times (while on US Cellular), and the recorded message (voice) states that the update was successful, but the message on my screen says "activation unsuccessful". I am able to make and receive calls and send messages, etc...but the phone will not roam. I have networks set to automatic, and national data roaming enabled. Any ideas?? Anyone??
The screen always says unsuccessful, it's a known glitch. Try setting roam options to home only or whatever, sometimes they get mixed up in the process of building and fixing other stuff.

Appreciate your response! I've tried every setting. Home only gives me US Cellular signal. When set to "Affiliated Networks", the setting will not remain there, it resets itself to Home only. When set to "Automatic", it catches US Cellular signal, but does not roam when there is no US Cell signal.
Surprised nobody else has this problem...
It may be a issue in which we need to go all the way back to stock and do the ADW fix.
Yeah possibly... scarmon do you have that to post? Ive never had to do it and I never copied it down...

Seems that fix is for phones that are always roaming. Is it known to work for the problem I'm having also (no roaming)??
Just got done flashing back to stock and completing the ADW fix. Flashed back to CM7...still no roaming. Tried every setting and every combination of settings with NO luck.

That's really odd... are you sure you're in a roaming area? The phone wont roam if you have uscc signal.

I am in a roaming area...as I mentioned above, I live in a fringe area, and my phone (usually) constantly switches between US Cell and Verizon. Now, it does not switch...it just goes from US Cell to NO service.
On another note, since I re-flashed, I am not receiving sms. And when I send sms, they are blank???
When you went back to stock did you flash the EH09 Build or did you flash EE19.
Edit. Didn't mean to double post
I did a full flash back to stock Froyo since I had the files already...
Everything is working except sms...

[Q] Have no network connection on EaglesBlood ICS?

First off what's weird is that in the Access Point Names it shows Simple Mobile(which I use) and T-Mobile. Usually when I flash a new Rom it only shows T-Mobile.
Secondly it will not let me edit any of these two APNs.
Still no service when I have the little bubble checked on either one. What's going on?
nothing?
I am going to say this even though you probably already tried it, but have you tried doing a full wipe and reinstall? If not this could fix the problem. Are you able to see the percentage of your battery? If it just stays at 100% and never changes you should look in the about phone in the settings and see if it can see the baseband as no baseband no ability to read battery and no working network abilities. If you can't see the baseband then get the app called GetRil and see if you can get a compatible one to get yourself back up and running.
If none of what I said above applies to your situation then you should try a different kernel. I am running EB AOSP 4.0.4 build 2.5 with the Harsh kernel with no problems.

I have a similiar issue just the variables are slightly reversed ( I am on T-Mobile, don't even know what Simple is, using GB roms, not ICS) Even made a similair thread on here. 2 Things, are you shutting down and then booting up or are you rebooting. I only get my data back when I reboot. I can't shut down and manually restart.
Secondly, when you go into the about phone section, does your mobile data network section say connected or disconnected?

[Q] Strange WiFi Issue

Hello there. First, let me say that I've researched this issue to no end. Searching here, Google, etc... Utilizing all sorts of keyword combinations. I don't think this is something simple/stupid but if it is, I apologize in advance.
I was running a few versions of Team Venom ViperXL up to and including 3.2.6. I seemed to start having this issue with the Viper ROM. (FYI, I do a full wipe on all ROM installs.) Since, I've migrated to CleanROM 6 R2 once it was based on the 3.1.8. I was partially hoping it would fix the issue I'm having, but alas it only slightly changed the issue (for the better).
What is happening:
- WiFi ON, everything working perfectly.
- If I wander out of range (1 mile away, etc) the signal strength of WiFi drops to 1 bar/bubble and never properly disconnects from my network. This also makes the phone refuse to transmit over the AT&T network until I manually turn off WiFi. Turning off WiFi on ViperXL caused the "WiFi" setting line to grey-out and hang on "Turning off" requiring a reboot after which everything works until I again go out of range. On CleanROM, the "turning off" succeeds without hanging, but will not reconnect properly until I either drop into Airplane Mode and back out or reboot the phone.
- (On CleanROM) Turning WiFi back ON will cause it to say "Not in Range" for the home WiFi network even though I'm clearly in-range. Again, the fix for this is either Airplane Mode or a reboot.
If I manually shut off WiFi before leaving the area of my home WiFi network, it will reconnect on manually turning back on without issue. It seems to only lock up when it has to disconnect due to being out of range.
I've also tried installing the Venom WiFi fix patch on both ViperXL and CleanROM, forgetting and re-adding the network, deleting the WiFi config files manually, etc. I'm wondering if this isn't something specific with my router, as it only seems to happen on my home WiFi network. I'm currently running an Asus RT-AC66U. My issue is that I swapped to this router AND changed ROMs right around the same time (hence my confusion on if it's a phone or router issue).
I did find a suggestion of changing the beacon interval of the Asus router, which I will try this evening.
I have seen other reports of portions of the issue I'm having, but not all together like this. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try?
EDIT: I've also tried various WiFi fix apps from the App Store. They usually correct the issue for the time being, only to have it happen again upon leaving the area of WiFi coverage.
Also, I'm running Bulletproof Kernel v1.1 with S-OFF. I just saw that Bulletproof v1.3 has a WiFi fix. I'll be installing that shortly.
If you want to narrow down if it's the phone or the router, the first thing I would do is make a nandroid backup and then RUU. If it's still happening, it's most likely the router or a hardware problem with the phone.
If it's not still happening then you can try that stuff and I would try flashing different radio's too. Out of curiosity what hboot are you on?

yeah I'd check to see if it's still happening after returning the phone to stock via RUU as a first step. This will be the best way to narrow things down.
