UNLOCK Skyrocket: A Question - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Did any of you have any problems unlocking the SR if your IMEI SV count was above 1,2,3,4,5,6?
That is the counter that is tripped when you load a new kernel outside of NAND backup?
or and stories of problems?
Thank you
Y!S

After searching around, it seems possible to root without unlocking the bootloader so you won't lose any data.
Here's the guide and another one.
Do note that those guides are written during gingerbread time, might not work in ics. besides, I haven't tested them myself, so do it at your own risk.
But I would still recommend you to make titanium backup after you gain root, unlock bootloader, and restore. This is in case you want to flash custom rom.
Thanks i didn't know I can root without unlocking the boot loader.

You can root without unlocking up until 4.0.3. Out of luck beyond this.
I think I'm screwed cause I have 4.0.4 and I cant a guide for rooting. fml

Just unlock the bootloader. They are just saved games. The apps are all there in Play, so just reinstall what you want.

As of the time of posting there is no public way to root 4.0.4 without unlocking on the Nexus S.

[Q] Updating UNLOCKED SGH-i727

Hi to all!
I'm a new member here and I'm hoping that you guys can help me with my simple question. I'm very new with Android OS since I've been an iPhone user for the past 2 years. So here it is:
I just bought an UNLOCKED AT&T SGH-i727 from a store here in SAIPAN, MP and I'm planning to update my Gingerbread 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. Will it lose the UNLOCK if I do it? I believe the phone is not rooted and it was just unlock using an unlock code. Please help. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
It will not lose its unlock. It will remain unlocked no matter what.

Yea if it's unlocked it will be unlocked forever. Although root will be lost upon installing the update.

Unlock vs. Root?

What is the difference between unlocking and rooting?
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA
From my understanding, rooting is giving access to the full system of your phone when normally you cannot access, which some apps require. Unlocking is a process which allows your phone to be used with other networks like using a T-Mobile phone with Vodafone.
Thanks that helped A lot

There is also unlocking the bootloader which in a simplified nutshell allows for the loading of custom recoveries and roms.

i have a verizon sumsung galaxy s3 SCH-I535 and it's network is locked i already rooted and unlocked it s bootloader but i need the code to unlock the network
PLEAAAAAAAAAAASE SOME HELP ME !
If you are not the original owner, you will have to have him/her get the code. It is phone/SIM specific and needs to be activated thru Verizon Customer Care.
Or, you could always try this ...

Can you please expand on what you need? Maybe I am too new and don't understand, but what is a network unlock code, why do you need it, and what is your phone status? Will it boot? Can you get into recovery or download mode?

Bootloader, how to tell if it's locked on nonrooted device

Hey guys, just recently had to unroot the S3 due to some minor hardware issues. I flashed the stock Rom and all with mobile Odin and was even able to update with the ota.
Is there a way to check to make sure the bootloader is locked without having to unroot again? Have a feeling I missed a step but just want to be sure.

Of the Samsung screen flashes by very quickly at boot then it means you are unlocked.

If you did a ota then your bootloader is locked iirc. Which version did you flash with odin? I think the F2 is the only version that doesnt relock but i could be wrong. But as suggested if the samsung logo goes away real quick at boot you are unlocked.

I flashed the rom they had from stockrooms.net, so I'm guessing it was one of the first roms the S3 had. It seems like I'm locked since it did an OTA twice (one I manually allowed then another one automatically) and the Samsung logo doesn't just flash by.
As x714x posted, if you accepted an OTA then your bootloader is locked.

The HD stock build is the only one that wipes everything.

Just unlock again using EZ Unlock 1.2 to be safe. It will not hurt anything to unlock it if it is already unlocked.
