I'v jailbroken itouches several times flawlessly so the concept of rooting is not new to me. I understand what has to be done and what it does for the device, positively anyway. I'v had the G2x for about 2 weeks now and i'm thinking about rooting it, but i don't want to do it without knowing all of the cons. I know i would be voiding my warranty, and that i might not get direct updates from my service provider anymore. I'v also read a lot about people rooting it without error, but for some reason after rooting the phone crashes. i took the risk of jailbreaking my itouch because i had it for 2 years already when i decided to jailbreak it, and because it's basically still just an mp3 player. This time it would be a phone which is more important to me. im also aware that gingerbread is coming out soon, so if someone could explain to me what the negatives are or at least point me in the right direction if this thread is already answered i would appreciate it.
With my phone, unrooting is easy if you know what you're doing, so I don't worry about the warranty part. The usual horror stories about rooted phones are usually due to user error. If you don't know what you're doing and don't fully read the instructions, you can end up doing some damage that is either difficult or impossible to fix. I think some people root their phones just for wireless tether, ad blocking, screenshots, or some "root only" app they see in the market. Then they decide they want to change their status bar icons or something and flash something that was not made for their phone or the stock rom... or whatever the situation may be.
My point is, if you know what you're doing you'll be fine. You should be able to go back to stock, unrooted - I'm not familiar with your phone, so I'm speaking in generalities. There are already Gingerbread roms out for many devices that haven't received official updates yet, even for phones that will never receive an official 2.3 update.
The only downside of rooting that I can think of is that you won't be able to put your phone down. Ultimately the choice is yours. If you don't want to put the time into learning, don't do it. It's a ton of fun though, I couldn't imagine not being rooted... there's so much more available for rooted phones.

I stumbled upon samsungillusionforum dot com, which is a dead forum with ancient posts and near zero activity. It seems to be an alias to samsungfascinateforum dot com. Why anybody would set a forum up in this manner is beyond me.
Last month I bought the Verizon Wireless Samsung Illusion SCH-i110. I waited around a month to see if anybody would post any information regarding rooting/ROMs for this phone to no avail.
I plan on trying SuperOneClick to root the phone, but as for Custom ROMS I don't know what is out there.
I would appreciate any and all information anybody has regarding ongoing customization work for the Verizon Wireless Samsung Illusion SCH-i110 running Android 2.3.5.

I too have been looking to see if i can find a way to root this phone...i like the phone, nice and responsive and just a good midrange phone, however i do want to get root access for wifi tethering.... I have tried superoneclick, doomlord, z4, gingerbreak, and universal androot all to no avail... if anyone has success getting this rooted please share the knowledge and it'd be highly appreciated....
I am in the same boat here... My girlfriend recently picked one up and hates all the VZW apps that are installed and we want to remove them and tweak the system a bit. I have scoured through the interwebs for close to 2 weeks trying to find anything that can root this phone. Unfortunately, anything out there as far as I can tell does not work... I was an idiot to suggest to my wife she get this phone from Verizon - I just assumed it was going to be a quick root for this cheap phone and I'd get all that Verizon crap off of it and it'd run great...

It's not that it's unrootable, it's just no one spends time rooting/modding prepaid phones... I'd be willing to work on it but I would need a tester, someone who can use ADB
I personally have tried everything including ADB to root this device. It isn't a prepaid phone. It is a contract phone through VZW

I am looking for a root for my BLU Studio 6.0 LTE model Y650Q preferably through Framaroot. I've already tried and does not work. Also, I'd be willing to donate towards a custom Lollipop ROM for my phone as well. Please let me know if this is possible. I had a BLU Studio 5.5 before this phone and Framaroot worked for it so I'm hoping it'll work or this phone soon. Willing to donate.

Honestly, I love it. I had the Note 3, and came on hard times so had to sell it. I got this phone a week ago and its seriously up to par compared to the Note 3. My husband has the Note 4 and I honestly like my phone better. I've been a Samsung fan since the Vibrant and feel bad for straying but BLU made a really kick ass phone! My ONLY complaint is that the touch sensitivity is a little high and find myself having to hit the back button but once I'm able to root, I know I can fix that. The camera is BETTER than my husbands Note 4. I honestly can't say enough about it. I really do love it.

Is there wireless tethering capability with this phone? And is the internal storage a true 16 gigs? I know it will only be 11 out of the box, but what I'm asking is, is the storage all one disk drive? I've seen these types of phones with partitioned drives, which I hate. One more question. Were you able to get it rooted and romed? Did the download link include a custom recovery? I would really love to get Cyanogenmod on this.
Yes, wireless tethering is a feature. I have used it plenty of times to connect my tablet with no problems. I actually have 14 GB of storage out of the box. I still have 13gb after all my app downloads. Most of my apps are on my 32gb SD Card.
Like I said, the link provided above isn't legit. Its basically a scam so no. I haven't been able to root it yet. I've tried Framaroot, but no one has found the exploit for this particular phone yet. I used to have the BLU Studio 5.5 and Framaroot worked for it, so hopefully its just a matter of time before someone figures out this phone.
I used an app called Towelroot on my Nexus 7 tablet. I believe it's supposed to work with most Android devices. I'm digging around trying to see what I can find out. It works just like Framaroot in that you don't need to use a computer to root your phone.

I'm sure it'll be rooted soon. The Studio 5.5 was rooted, so it's just a matter of time. This phone has only been out a month so I'm sure its in the works. If I were you, I'd still get it. But that's just because I love this phone.

I've already figured out its a scam. You can only "download" it by doing endless amounts of surveys and signing up for this and that and you never get the download link. Trust me, I've tried. And the XDA link he provides, isn't legit.

I checked that link you sent and it says to enter in some codes. There is NO where to enter any sort of codes so TowelRoot is still a no-go.
You're supposed to tap on Welcome to Towelroot three times. All my Android devices are rooted, so I have nothing to test this on. But I like what I've seen so far with this phone. I have a thL phone that I used Framaroot on. I hope they will find an exploit for the Blu. I just need a new phone because my current one has limited internal storage, the camera stopped working, and either battery is shot, or charging port is going bad. Have you ever installed custom recovery and custom Rom before? On your other Blu?
Yeah, I'm an intermediate knowledge of rooting and downloading and installing ROMs. It helps that my husband is a computer programmer and has been for 17 years so he knows quite a bit about this stuff and so its rubbed off on me. I did tap the welcome message 3 times. Then 10, then about 40 times. And nothing. My husband could root it via the computer but can't find the adb drivers for this phone. Or something like that. He tried and looked for everything and told me to post here and see if anyone's figured it out. If he hasn't been able to do it then it hasn't been done yet.
But it'll be done soon. I was able to root my BLU Studio 5.5 with Framaroot and did install a few ROMs on it but ended up sticking with stock ROM because I preferred it. So I know its just a matter of time before someone figures out the exploits to root this phone. Just hoping it happens sooner rather than later.

Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.

I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?

Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.

following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!

I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.

For christmas, my mom got this cheap tablet called the "npole". It was 80 bucks and all she does is go on youtube and netflix. Well this may be the ****tiest tablet I've ever had the displeasure of touching. Right out of the box, it has virsuses installed on it. I'm not even joking when I say my mom pulled it out of the box, turned it on, went to chrome, and 4-5 tabs oppened with ads. It has pop ups all over, and the newest version of netflix doesn't work even though It's running Lollipop.
Anyway, I want to know if it's possible to root it and get a custom rom on it. I doubt whatever Chinese bootleg company made this took the time to get decent security for it. I'm trying kingroot, but it fails around 70%. Someone else posted that they rooted it and wanted a custom rom but didn't give any explanation on how they rooted it. I've rooted phones before, both my S3 and S4, and installed a custom rom on my S3 (sadly I didn't get the phone till after the Loki exploit patch so I had to use safestrap).
