[Q] Samsung Kernel for LG G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

This is my first post so be gentle!
I have been messing with a G2X. For what I do, Kies Air fits my needs perfectly. Is there a way to install a Samsung Kernel on the G2X so I can install Kies, or if not, is there a mod that will get this to work,....OR...is there a different app that works with the same functionality as Kies? Thank you in advance for your help!!!

KIES is the updater application from Samsung to update your OS. Like the LG updater.

Never use a kernel that wasn't made or ported to work with your specific device, especially if its from another manufacturer. Two completely different boards, means two completely different way of coding, meaning two completely different kernels.
Sent from my G2X XDA app cuz I'm stalking your mom....

Try WebKey. It should do the things you need to do.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.webkey&hl=en

Thank you for your replies. I will try out the other apps that you have suggested, as well as staying away from the Kernel swap. I appreciate all of your help! Saved me from the dreaded brick!!!

I found a link with instructions on how to install Gingerbread on the infuse. I am totally new to Android and just made this account so it won't let me post the link. Anybody want me to pm it to them?
Im just curious if it is real or not... I know hardly anything about android.. i came from an iphone and very glad i did so!
sure pm me
Can you please PM me as well?
I have ROM Manager installed but not sure which model name to select as I don't see Infuse when I try to install clockworkmod recovery

any of the galaxy s line should work. i used the one for the capitvate.
where did you find the link? and are you sure it is real?
I saw tons of posts in other threads about how this phone does not have same kernel as Captivate and they bricked their phones. Can you give us more details on how you did it and what option you picked exactly?
Did you install CWM using Captivate as model name only or you changed the stock rom?
Its a rootkit/spam URL.
There is a site that spins these all up about how to get Gingerbread on your device. It replaces a couple things like su and such and will make your phone not your friend.
Im with above post. If it happen it would be on xda... call this bs..
sent from Infuse but miss my captivate on cont. 5.5.... One day this can be as good...

the reason there was a brick is because someone flashed a captivate kernel with CWM built in. if you use rom manager, its the same as if you do the steps in my post regarding CWM.

There'll be no Gingerbread until Samsung makes it, or some genius makes a kernel from, say, i9000 sources like xcaliburinhand did for the Captivate.

He took the i9000 kernel source and modified it for use on the Captivate.
Could he do it for the Infuse? Probably. I don't know much about kernels beyond how they fit into ROM creation.
Miui?
Any chance of seeing the MIUI ROM for the Infuse 4G any time soon?

I'm interested! I wish this phone had its own space here at xda.
Working on a rom dump just for that the problem is that I don't own the phone. So I get limited time with my good friends phone. Also I got a family so us getting together to do this stuff is kinda hard. If I get a rom dump I might be able to port cm7 to this model. I am no major developer I just tinker mainly. But would like to do more and his dart is a good start for doing more.
Looking to make recovery image as well

Download the tool plug in USB cable to phone set phone to USB debugging in (settings >manage applications>development>USB debugging) run superoneclick as administrator.
Then click the root button. Easy as pie.

Well there is no custom roms as of now I am tring to get one together but without source code its not easy to do anything. But you can use an app called root explore to remove T mobile boatware. Also use any app that requires root.
Also root will be helpful when a recovery image is made for the dart. Then custom roms will be possible.

NANDROID is not compatible with this device, i tried to install on a rooted t499; all well, but when i tried to boot into the clockwork recovery from ROM Manager, NOW I HAVE A DEAD PHONE....ZIPPO, NOT EVEN A BLINK, i've 3 pieces needing repair. however, i'm shooting for 2 will be fully functional. ONCE, i get my hands on the original firmwares...FULL.. so, if anybody out there can DUMP all the files on a link TO FLASH WITH ODIN, THANKS A ALOTTO.

I've been working on dumping the rom but all I get is a 'segmentation fault' when using romdumper... still trying to figure all that out. I think its the way superoneclick roots it.
I know it must be hard to work on, is there any updates on custom roms?

How to backup stock rom?

I'd like to get custom rom's on my phone, but one thing scares me. Since im from a canadian carrier, i don't really have the flexibility of finding my rom as U.S citizens have. I've heard that nandroid backs up the rom effectively, but on the contary, i also heard it keeps bits of rooted elements. Any insight at all?
Thanks in advance.

Nvflash one click app. Pretty simple process.
When your done and boot into ClockWorkMod custom recovery, you can backup your stock rom.

Thank you for the replies. I've got three more questions. That is considered "rooting" correct? I'd be able to install a rom afterwards using clockworkmod right? I've used the clockwork on another device, so it isn't new to me at all.
My second is regarding the stock G2X recovery. Would it be the same for my Canadian version of the phone? I'm guessing yes since the hardware is the same
Finally, would this enable my FM radio? For some reason, it isn't enabled with my carrier.
Thanks in advance

(Q) Coming from a vibrant to a galaxy s 4g

Ok, so a year ago I was flashing roms. on my vibrant on a daily basis. I unfortunately sold my vibrant in february and got a blackberry. I regret doing that and needed to come back. I thought why not get a galaxy 4g. I did that and its in the mail. It should arrive tomorrow but I'm just wondering for those of you who had a vibrant is it like the same for flashing rome with odin and everything else or is it different like a g2 that you have to flash boot loaders and what not. Cut me some slack, its been a while since I've done any of this lol
It will most likely come on froyo so you should use kies to get the official gingerbread release. This should give you the correct bootloaders for the gingerbread roms which are pretty much all flashed through cwm. The only time bootloaders is an issue is when going from froyo to gingerbread.
alright thank you I'm looking forward to it lol. Just one more question, I read somewhere that we can't use rom manager or anything anymore. How am i suppose to get clockwork recovery? I would re-read it but I can't seem to find it.
Don't be dissin' the g2. The g2 is real, the vibrant and sgs4g are fake android. G2 is AOSP, samsung is touchwiz and so is ODIN. Android is from google, not Samsung.

I don't get it either. Anyway no you can't use rom manager. To get cwm the easiest way is to Odin one of Dr honks modified kernels. They provide root and cwm.
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium
Phone drivers, Odin program, ravers odin kj6 rom and drhonks odin kj1 kernel. Thats what you need. A laptop too of course. After that... if you know the basics just download customs roms like airfluips aosp style or dsexton icbinb or somas simplysimple. Depending what you like.
Thank you
alright thanks guys. unfortunately phone didn't come today. Better be here tomorrow

If you searched and read, you'd have ur answer already.
rooting
i did search and read. that's how i arrived a the point that i did. if you can't help me, why bother to respond at all. just to lord your knowledge over me? how rude and pompous!
You can't root 2.3.6 UCLB3 with SOC. In fact, it can't be rooted very easily. What I did, because I'm a noob and was afraid of going back to Froyo to get to a rooted UCLB3, was this:
I flashed back to stock UCKK1 (no data loss experienced doing this)
Rooted with unlockroot (which, strangely, no longer lists this build as rootable. Don't know why, but it worked on the second attempt for me.)
Installed CWM and did nandroid backup
Flashed the rooted UCLB3 from Dman
(I later flashed the entropy kernel 'cuz it's great! You'll see why when you boot up in the rooted UCLB3.)
That's what I did, but you ought to read through Qkster's posts on this. I used some of his Heimdalls for this - he knows what he's doing. Most people on here say that your mileage may vary - with my advice, I'd say your mileage may greatly vary!
Here is a how-to. UCLB3 can be rooted on your phone, no need to install another rom to do it. Read and re-read, this thread wasn‘t too far down from the one you made.:

Great guide jscott30. Yours along with qkster's noob guide and qbking77's videos on youtube walked this noob here through flashing my way to total Infuse Emancipation. Pretty much hassle-free, no problems or bootloops of any kind...although I did update to 2.3.6 through Kies first...what can I say...noob here Odin easily took care of that though taking me back to stock Froyo.
From there it was easy following all the instructions and tips posted on these boards. My advice to all 1st timers is read and do your research. Don't blow up your phone on a whim simply to have one that looks "cool" or does something different.
If you do run into problems the search button here and on google are quite helpful.
Peace
I am also a noob an had my son talk me through the process on the phone. I also had a rooting issue after getting 2.3.6 through Kies. I used the Odin process to gain root and then loaded CWM to be able to flash the phone easily. I am on CM7 now but am having an issue with my Bluetooth not working no. Does anyone have an answer for this problem? All I get in the BT now is static.
Thanks for the help,
Gary

BT Issue response to response
My son has his working on CM7 and he says the BT works for his phone headset use at least. Mine is not. Is there a better ROM other than a stock build that I should use? Since I am not a developer and am close to being totally clueless in all of this, I guess you could say I am not even smart enough to be a good dangerous. Probably a bad dangerous however.
Thanks.

Jerry,
Yes, he also has an Infuse. I had mine upgraded to the 2.3.6 over Kies and then some of the apps, not sure which ones or how many), would not load and work without locking up the unit and causing it to go into an endless reboot loop so he helped me find the Odin unlock and reload files so that I could get ClockWork Mod to work, and then he got me to the CM7 files from Steve Morrissey's listing. Now everything works but the BT and i use that all the time when talking on the phone so it is kind of important.

audio BT is not functional on CM7. Source code issues.
If BT is a must, you'll have to try one of the native infuse roms.
idk if bt works on port...I've not tried the ports long enough to know.
Try Spartan, PharmNerd, Dev, Aeon, Midagu Eman etc...or just stock uclb3
what qk said if you need more help check out the links under qk's signiture also feel free to pm me
Out of curiosity, does anyone know if there is a possible time when the BT will be able to be working in CM7? I really like the overall build and the way it works but I really do not want to have to use a wired headset too much.
Thanks again for putting up with those of us that have so little knowledge.
From what I understand the source code for the Bluetooth drivers was never released and that is why it does not work did you get tethering working
Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
Jerry,
With CM7 the tethering works really well on USB and while slower, it does work as a wireless hotspot as well. I really like the CM7 so I hate to go elsewhere just because of the BT issue but.... Do you know of any specific other ROMSs that behave and look similar to CM7 that have the BT and tethering working?
Thanks,
Gary
no i dont sorry i liked cm7 when i tried it but at the time i wasnt using bt and like i said in my pm i have never used tethering sorry i couldnt be more help you might want to try imancipation it has alot of themes and a ota app to download them with
