I shut my phone off for a few at work, and plugged it into my charger. Outta nowhere, it goes into download mode... the only way to power it on is to do a battery pull and unplug the cord. When it powers on, all seems normal except that the battery doesn't seem to be gaining a charge. It has the little lightning bolt, but hasn't gained any percentage.
I'm running sky-ics with faux123's kernel and the UCLA3 modem.
Any thoughts?

Sounds like the microusb connector is done. Just to make sure try using a different wall USB charger and/or another cable, that could be the problem. If not, its still under warranty, so take it in
Heh.. his phone is not under warranty unless he flashes it back to stock (even if it is a hardware problem, they will fight with him that his custom rom is the cause...)
I'd say just ODIN the phone back to stock and then return it. You shouldn't get any problems from AT&T.
Before any of that hassle, definitely try another cable/charger first like icenight89 suggested. Very good chance your problem lies there.

Guys, it's just the USB he got has the resistor set up for ODIN, if he is using the stock one he got, then I don't know, but some of the USB's do act like USB JIG. I have one, that does the same thing.

Yeah... not 100% sure what that was all about! I tried a couple different cords with the same results. What's odd is that when I plugged it into my power skin case, everything seemed to be fine. I did fix permissions and do a couple reboots, but it seems to be back to normal now.

Hey guys. So to "cheer me up" my buddy gave me his G2x because his service was discontinued. In attempt to use it i tried to turn it on. wouldnt turn on. So i figured id charge it. When i plug it in, the LG sign comes up, but then disappears after 2 seconds of being up. I figured, oh **** the phone is bootlooping. It bootloops so fast that i cant even turn on the phone in recovery. Im thinking the phone might be bricked, since its "dead" and is bootlooping. Any suggestions? I dont want to throw away a perfectly good phone.
When was the last time the phone was charged?... you might need to charge it a little longer... then try to turn it on... battery was probably drained completely

If you only gave a slight tap on the power button, that will happen. Try pressing power button for 3-5 secs.

when the phone charges, it boot loops while it charges. So i dont even think its charging. I charged it over night, and it still doesnt have power unless plugged in. I feel as if the phone is bricked. But i highly doubt its rooted in the first place. Suggestions?
Sounds like maybe the mini-usb connector may be damaged and its not actually charging the phone could explain why its in and out of power and screen. Try maybe holding it still and pressing the power button for about 3 sec. Other than that id try plugging it in on the pc and see if that makes a difference.
welp. ill try that. maybe itll work. See all i need to do is boot into recovery. and im straight.
i just did what you said, same thing.
Do you think im experiencing the sleep of death?
Did you try removing the battery and putting it back (after few seconds) before attempting to switch on?
This is considerably worse than sleep of death. What's happening is that the phone, for whatever reason, isn't storing the electricity. If the problem happens even with with battery completely out of the phone, the problem is probably in the usb port. You might have to take the phone apart and replace it.

Well, I honestly think its more of a software issue. Since the bootloop is sooo short, the phone doesnt have a chance to charge. thats what i think is whatsup. But im not sure.
Weather the phone is on or off it should charge. Charging with phone off is a bit faster. As someone suggested the USB port may be bad or it may be a bad charger itself.
So how would i be able to get a usb port? just order it online? easy install?
Well its attached the actual mobo of the phone so some dissecting and a soldering gun is in order to replace the usb port

WHOA WHOA WHOA before you start soldering your phone (lol) try flashing CWM on it with a computer. and even before this try different usb/wall wires and different usb chargers. perhaps your charge is too strong or something like that.
anyways try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
more importantly see if you get stuck at the part where, after removing the barrery, you hold both volume keys and plug in usb to pc and see if the pc detects an apx device or w.e. if it does then the problem is (probably) not usb related.
if after flashing CWM it STILL DOES NOT WORK then try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
this uses your PC to flash an entire rom and everything. stock recovery rom actually
what friend he is, sending you a brick LOL
oh and this goes without saying but you DO have a g2x right?
I like that apx idea. That would determine if it's USB related. Only thing is, if it's not detected that could mean a bad USB but it could also mean just a ruined motherboard.

Hey guys!
So. I was driving to the airport, using my phone as my GPS. Then boom. It turns off. So I swapped my battery. It wasn't turning on.
I got home, and my phone still wouldn't turn on. I plug it into my computer and it recognizes my OMAP, but not my phone. When I plug it in it has a white LED, and no other signs of life.
Anyone know how to fix this kind of behaviour?
I have tried several things.
1. Recovery mode, there is no life in it at all. No dual boot screen, and no other signs of life.
2. Pulling the battery. Tried it.
3. Replacing the battery. No go.
4. Completely powering it down without a battery. Pulled the battery, and then pressed home button.
5. Leave it charging. Nope :/
Any help?

Nope... it didn't work. Still goes into the endless "OMAP" connected, disconnected process on my computer.
Sorry to say it but your phone might just be... dead. If you can't charge it with the McGyver method, and I assume you can't boot into fastboot, then there really isn't much you can do. You should be able to get a replacement device through Moto's 1-year warranty.
Can u boot into fasboot? This happened to me a couple weeks ago, so i went into fastboot, and flashed bpears batch file to flash back to stock..... i also one time had to wipe my phone from motorola recovery (one of the choices before fastboot) then restart back into fasboot then use bpears fastboot tool..... not sure if this was the time i had to do that though.....

I tried the Macgyver method. No joy. I tried booting into fastmode, not even a bit of life............ I think my Atrix 2 is dead..... anyone know the best place to sell a phone for parts? Everything else is good on my phone, except for the fact that it won't turn on.
Second android phone that has went and bricked on me. I am wondering if a WP7 is a good choice.... I just wish I didn't have to spend anymore cash!
I know this might sound dumb, but did you try plugging it in to an actual outlet and not just your computer? The first time I completely discharged my A2 i had the same problem, I hooked it up to my laptop and got a white LED. Panicked for a good hour, and plugged it into an outlet. Phone booted up into "charging mode" within a couple of seconds.

You tried MacGyver method to solve white led when USB connected? Did it solve?
I have full charged batteries, because I charged in my friend defy. What is the difference of a full charged battery and MacGyver method?
So my infuse's bottom touch screen buttons, (search, home, back, and menu/settings) stopped working randomly, it was just a matter of me checking my phone for texts while walking around and the buttons were dim, so I restarted the phone 4-5 times to try and fix it, but nothing helped it.
So I put the phone in download mode and tried to get it back to stock using odin. But it froze at cache.rfs for half an hour so I disconnected it. I got the phone ! pc screen from this point on and my phone was still being recognized by my computer at this point as well. I called it a night and left it plugged into my computer until the next day, I tried a different USB port in the morning after I installed samsung mini kies for drivers (even though it was already recognized) and tried using odin again. Again, it froze at cache.rfs so I unplugged my phone and now I can't even turn it on to get to the phone ! pc screen. When I hold down the power button now though, even with my phone charging, nothing happens. I tried power button + volume button too, and nothing happened. It can't even be recognized by any of my computers either. What do I do now? I have warranty on it through AT&T but I'm not sure what their terms are flashing and stuff. (Luckily I did a backup on my phone before flashing )
I had similar problems with Odin freezing at cache.rfs. I tried three USB calls and they all did the same thing. I then tried another USB cable at my work and it flashed the uclb3 unbrick like a champ. My guess for your situation would be a bad USB, try another. Hope that helps

Ok, it's plugged into another USB port but again, it doesn't even turn on to show me the phone ! pc screen. I do notice that when I hold down power, for a split second after a few moments of holding down the button, there is a flash coming from the right side of the screen. Until I can get it recognized on my computer I think I'm at a loss.
Sounds like the battery is out of juice. You'll need to charge it or put a new battery in before you can get back to download mode.

Wouldn't you agree though that I should be able to boot up with it plugged into a charger?
update:
almost 12 hours later of charging my infuse with various chargers and cords, I still can't even get a samsung logo. Just a black screen with the occasional white blip on the right side while I hold down the power button. Looks like I"m without a phone for the time being. Not if its bricked...its the kernel that allows the phone to charge when its off...so you'll either have to try a battery only charger (whereyou take out the battery and put it in a square charger thing...one that doesn't charge it through the phone/USB) or just buy or borrow a new battery
And when a phone dies you have to plug it in and let it sit for a little while before you van turn it on again

Ahhhhh, thank you for that good bit of info. I never thought that the power to the battery was governed by the phones kernel. Do you know where I could buy one of these chargers? After posting this I'll do a google search myself, but just in case.
Thanks very much.
Edit:
Ok, so after I get some juice into my battery I should just try all unbricking steps again?

Damn, I ordered a wall charger online for $10 and the shipping time is a week max. I'm crossing my fingers for a quick delivery.
So lately I've been running into a rather annoying and inconvenient problem with my beloved S3. The thing doesn't charge well, at all. Plugged into the wall, via USB, via fast charge USB...I just can't get it to charge. I went to bed last night with the phone at around 30%, plugged it into the wall, and when I woke up 7 hours later it was at 55%....not ideal. Same result when I left it plugged into my computer overnight. At first I thought it was the wall charger, but that was ruled out when I found that I couldn't charge over usb either. My current suspect is a faulty usb cable, and unfortunately I don't have another one to test. What are the odds its damaged contacts on the inside of the phone? is there a way to test/look for that? FYI I'm running beans jellybean build 2, but this problem started when I was still on ICS. Any ideas as to what could be causing it? I've noticed high android system usage (over 50%), but I doubt that accounts for the drain I'm seeing. Any help figuring this our would be appreciated.

I had this exact same issue, eventually it stopped charging at all.
Turned out to be a fault of the phone. Called Verizon, they sent me another battery to try, didn't fix anything, they then did a warranty exchange. Got a refurb phone and it works great.

Thanks for the intel. Im actually on a refurb right now due to some issues with my launch device. Was your replacement covered under warranty at no cost? Unfortunately for me I'm abroad so I can't exactly go in to a Verizon store or call them to ship a replacement.

Do wipe the battery stats and see - wouldn't probably solve the issue but worth trying !
I too have USB problems. A normal car charger will work but when I use my USB wall/laptop/car it won't charge much. When i sleep it stops charging and I wake up to 70% battery or so. I don't know if its my cable (which it probably is) or if its my phone. Where do I go about replacing my USB?

For me I think it is my AC adapter. My phone charges faster plugged into my macbook than my wall charger.

I'll try to find a new cable and see if it works. Other than that I'm at a loss. I think I've had this problem before and fixed it with a complete drain, followed by a full charge from the wall (with phone off). I can't remember if it was this exact same situation though, and also have no idea why said solution would work.

Amazon: OEM Cable
Although I don't think you'll have any issues with any generic cables, I've used many different cables from other phones, monoprice, amazon, etc and haven't had any issues with charging any phone I have.
Alright I just had my phone plugged in for over 7 hours to get it to 100%. I'll give a progress report when I try to charge it again. Fyi it just dropped 2% in less than a minute.
UPDATE: battery still horrible. Went back to tw nandroid to rule out the possibility of a JB leak bug

Did a reinstall fix the charging issue no now you've just got a wrong indicator or is the charging issue still there.
I totally attribute this to a degrading OS... Now I'm not so sure...

I just started having the same problem a couple weeks ago, it's super finicky now. I was rooted on 5.02 and tried to fix it doing everything I could think of. Finally, ended up using the verizon software utility thinking maybe that could do something since even with my phone powered off, the phone would see the cable plugged in for a second but then would disconnect from it. Everything up to that point seemed to be a hardware issue to me but this seemed to be software or something else and was the reason I chose to use the verizon software. Anyway, using their support software only removed my root and brought me up to marshmallow and that didn't fix anything.
I've done tons of things and nothing has helped. I've just settled on the fact that something hardware has happened even though this began in the middle of the night while the phone was on the charger and untouched. I just ended up going through all my usb cables and found some that work better than others. Some fast charge sometimes others never do. I figure I'll just live with it until I get the S7 or htc 10 or something else.
It's a total mystery to me though as to what happened. The phone wasn't dropped or anything around the time it began doing this, just seemingly came out of nowhere. I do miss not having this problem!
Well, it's weird because if I plug it in and push the charger thing upwards it switches to fast charging.. I guess I'm gonna go buy another USB cable and see if it's the problem. No way am I going through another factory reset too much stuff on my phone.

I wouldn't, didn't do anything for me.
With your phone off, what does the charging do? Every single one of my cables would show that they were plugged in and charging , even the ones that weren't doing anything at all when plugged in to the phone while the phone was booted up, but then immediately would disconnect.
Sometimes you can get dust or lint in the charging port. Turn the off, no power an gently use a needle to try to clean the port.
Hope this helps.
