K, so I found the thread on here where people had been able to get the PS store on there 2.3.3 Verizon R800x phones by moving the new permissions from 2.3.4 to the correct places.
See this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402308
Problem is that it didnt work and stupid me did not backup my original files from the following places:
System/framework
files etc/permissions
So if anyone has the 2 .xml (i believe) files for the Sony.Playstation files and the 1 .jar com.Sony.playstation file would they be willing to zip these files and send me a link to download them? I am not able to use the playstation emu or the xperia games launcher......... I would be extremely grateful

Got it resolved. Had to downlload the 2.3.3 update.zip and search for the files I needed.... copied and pasted to the right okaces in my phone, rebooted and BAM. Now I have backed up those files in case I make an idiot move again

Wouldn't have thought it'd be against the rules as it was preinstalled.

It was only preinstalled in some regions - e.g. the UK. So care should be taken - point to the fact that it's available in hidden.rfs should be enough.
Regards,
Dave
ok here is the apk. you will need to extract the gameloft folder from hidden.rfs for it to work
Please only use this if your device came with nova
MOD: If there is an issue feel free to pull it or pm me
Any clues as to how to extract the relevant bits from the hidden.rfs file, to access gameloft folder? I also flashed my UK device, which came with NOVA, and obviously lost it. Would love to get it back. I've seen instructions but they often refer to Linux or the MacOS and, well, apart from Android, I run Windows.
download magiciso open the hidden file with that and extract what you need.
Or winimage. I am not going to upload it here for piracy reasons

if you already had it, just install the apk and it will work. The data should still be on the sdcard.
unless it has been wiped. if you are not sure weather you have the data, it will be in /gameloft/nova or something like that
Or do a search in this forum for a link to the full CPW firmware set including the full hidden.rfs image which has the full Nova HD installer in it, plus the instructions on how to extract it.
The first time you run the game it'll download something like 200MB of data to the sdcard if you haven't got the full gameloft folder installed ex the hidden.rfs file.
Guys, you are all very kind. Thanks for your suggestions. But my attempt to do this is still failing...
I downloaded the CPW rom but it was encoded. I downloaded the decoder but it errors (doesn't run at all in XP and gives lots of nice errors (java??) on Windows 7). So I cannot actually access the image, despite having ISOmagic ready to run.
It's driving me batty. I know it's just a few £ to purchase, but I'm so close to getting it back - I just can't bring myself to give Gameloft even more money than I already have.
Any final thoughts or tips on this?
TIA
Okay - tried the decode program on another Windows 7 installation and no errors. It decoded the ROM absolutely fine. The ENC file became a ZIP file. I opened the ZIP file and in there was a TAR file. I opened the TAR file with WinRAR and was finally able to extract the EFS file. Finally, using Magic ISO, I manually opened the EFS file and extracted the gameloft folder. I transferred it on to my GT and hey presto, it runs again!
Thanks so much for your help.
MOD : delete post.
can i installed this just like that???
Use winimage. Anyway nova is on Samsung apps now

Its not considered warez if it was included on the phone/tab/device originally. Thanks for being concerned about it though. Most don't care and post anything.
i use game emulators to play some gba games and im wondering how to back up the data so i can continue at the same spot on a new phone?
im using a nexus s, no root.
edit:
would it work if i just copy the folder i saved the roms in?

i believe so. just make sure you copy all of the files in the folder to the respective folder on your new phone (the file that contains the game data is the file that has the extension ".sav", something like that. that is the file that you want to make sure that you copy over. the actual rom file, which i believe is a zip file, can always be redownloaded but of course it is easier to just copy it along with the .sav file).
Just recently, on two different PCs, whenever I downlaod an APK from XDA-Developers, they are saved as .zip files (saved as "app.zip" instead of "app.apk"). Downloading from other sites works fine.
Is it something with the forums? or with my PCs?
Can the file be unzipped?

Yes, the file can be unzipped & the contents are what would usually be in an apk file.
I just rename it to "app.apk" & it will work. Its just that it did not happen before, and now, on two PCs whenever I download an APK, I have to rename it first.
Apk in .zip
All APK's are just zip files in a format that Android understands and can un-zip almost like and be installed like a program. So, i think, you need to just change the .zip extension to .apk
The main question was that, previuosly downlaoded APK's from XDA were fine, now, they are saved as .zip. why?

Probably because its not illegal I guess... if you were to upload a paid app as an APK u could get in trouble whereas if its in a .zip file then its not considered an illegal file... if you get me... another possibility is that it just takes up less space hope this helps

Hi. I just found out that apk files are kept in the device after installation of the app.
I just recently downloaded a file explorer app and I found out that the apk files of the free games which I downloaded and installed from android market are kept in this folder:
/mnt/asec (I'm using Samsung Galaxy Ace)
There are individual folders for each game, and in each folder are a lib folder and the apk file. For example:
Fruit Ninja folder (which is found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
Fruit Slice folder (which is also found in mnt/asec folder) contains a lib folder and an apk file.
My question is, is it ok to delete these apk files? Will the games still work?
Also, can I send these apk files to someone else via bluetooth so they may download the apps without having to visit android market?
yeah you can delete the apk file after installing any app for it to still function, I do it all the time. Yes you can send the apk file to your friend so they can install it. If you're still cautious, try doing a trial run with one apk file...send it to your friend first, then delete, see if it works.
The .apk files are like setup files for windows. Once installed, you don't need the apk, especially if you are backing up with Titanium or similar backup program.
follow up question
Hi. Thanks guys.
Is everything from the android market ".apk"? Is it possible that some have a different extension? I downloaded a dictionary app, I can't be sure but I think it's a .zip file.
Thank you.
pakattack
I tried to delete the apk file. It cannot be deleted.
However, I copied it to my sd card, uninstalled the app, re-installed it using the one already in my sdcard, and it installed just fine.
I still want to be able to delete the apk file that is in the system though (/mnt/asec).
Any ideas or do I just have to deal with it?

I agree with deleting it won't be a problem but sending to a friend?

WillShaka, like I said, I tried to delete it. I can't. Not allowed.
I don't know why. I'm using ES File explorer
not sure if this works but have you tried unmounting the sd and delete?

Also, and I don't mean to veer out of topic (this question is often ignored in Q&A forum), if I use Odin to upgrade my stock firmware instead of using Kies, will it erase all my data? I have a feeling it will...

Yes, you can delete the APK after installation. But the APKs in /system/app/ need to stay where they are to function appropriately

You mean except the apk file you have a folder and inside some files?
If that's the case than those files are game data that is usually modified to work with that apk..
So you install apk(game) and then copy the folder either to Android/data, to root of your internal sd card or in some other folder. The folder depends on the game developer and most of them put the game data folder to Android/data.
If you get the .apk+.obb files than you install apk and copy the obb files to your Android/obb folder..
You'll figure it out..

apk files are actually zips, you can open and change them with winrar, winzip or 7zip...
that's why renaming worked.
