[Q] I have a Stock ROM backup. What should I do with it? - HTC Desire S

I thought when I first flashed a custom ROM that it might useful to keep a backup of stock.
But right now this backup bogging down my sd card. Will it still work if I copy the folder with the backup in my computer and use it afterwards? Or should I delete it and use the method described in these threads to bring it back to stock if I need to?

Yes, it will still work if you transfer the folder

Root...

Well is there anyway to root without losing my data? And what exactly does it erase, that's because I downloaded some Gameloft games and here my net is VERY slow (100kb/s), so I need o know if it will be erased, as well Bug Village save data, Gun Bros, Contract Killer, Angry Birds, well there's too much , so I want to know if there's anyway to don't format, for example I didn't need to format my x10 mini pro when I rooted it.
Thanks for your attention, waiting for answers

I'm kind new at this to and I didn't have much on my phone when I rooted it but I backed up my pics, vids, and other data from my sd card to my pc. If you've purchased apps from the market then they should already be backed up by google and titanium backup is a good app for backing up all apps. like I said I'm new and I was more worried about getting rooted than what I was gonna lose but if I remember correctly it flashes your card so backing up all your data would be wise.

It is the unlocking that wipes your data, so yes you will use what data you can't backup but you will get your apps back if you are synced to your google account.
So do yiu guys know someway to root without unlocking the bootloader, sorry for this questions, that's because Xperia X10 mini pro is VERY different from Xoom...
Sent from my MZ605 using XDA App
As far as I know you must unlock your device which wipes your data. Why not just copy it to your computer if you have one, unclock and copy back?
That's because Gameloft games, when I connect my Xoom to my computer I can't see it data pack. And so I have too much game data on my Xoom that I worked so hard to do (for example Bug Village and Inotia)...

Titanium Backup is what I use for all my backup needs. I then Sync it with my dropbox which syncs with my PC. So if I wipe the device I just copy it back from the PC. Titanium has an option built in to sync with Dropbox.

TB only works with root.
But I did see a new SanDisK backup app that doesn't require root...it's in the market:

N-O, NO! Don't even go there.
The Xoom needs to be rooted with its own methods.
Ok, and i didnt see the gameloft data until now, can you tell me how to see it on my Vista Laptop?

You should be able to just plug it into your PC and go to Xoom/Internal Storage/gameloft all my game data is in that folder.
What you really want to do is make a folder on your desktop then go to your Xoom open the folder (Internal Storage) click tools/folder options/view make sure "always show menus" is check. Click ok and close that box. Now go to edit in the menu select "select all" then edit again and copy. Go to the new folder and paste it. This will select all the files even if they are hidden. That should start to copy your files over to your PC.
Well I already made a backup of my Gameloft data pack, but I want to backup my Inotia data... Anyone know a way?

Backing up apps

Hey everyone sorry if this has bee asked already but, I use to use cm7 and I just switched to paranoid android build 8 and was wondering if theres a way to back up my apps like example(on the game 100 floors if I saved it to my SD card and re downloaded would it save all my floors?) Thanks!

Titanium Backup will be your saving grace. I use it to backup all my user apps and transition them to whatever ROM I switch to. Spend the little extra $$ and get the Pro version too. Well worth the money invested in it.

Oh looked it up seems cool(I know how to get paid apps for free not sure if I'm allowed to post that here though lol) and does this save the apps to SD card or phone or is it there own servers online or something? How does it work do I recover my cm7 back up and do this and then go back to paranoid android re download app and restore?

We won't go into discussion of the "free"ness you speak of. It's not tolerated here and I HIGHLY discourage it as a practice.
Titanium Backup will put the backups wherever you'd like. It's all in the setup.
Don't rip off the makers of Titanium Backup. Their tool is awesome and is worth the money

[Q] [Urgent] Quick CWM question

I recently sold my phone, I had it rooted and had clockworkmod installed and everything. I was rushing because the guy was on his way so I threw a new ROM on it (Hellfire 2.3 I believe) and deleted all the other files on the sd card (cwm, data, dcim, media, etc.) so no files were left on it. When I took the sim card out the phone would freeze and not respond. I put it back in and gave it to him. He called me back saying the volume doesn't work and when he tried to call he cant hear the other person. Any help ?

Very stable, and it's safer than going for CM7 nightly.

Those are a nightly, with a few.cherry picks.
How would it be anymore stable than the nightly it was based on.

[Q] clockwork mod revovery

ok so I have the touch version installed andwas trying to do a back up. long story short I didn't realize the date bug and had several backups made so I started to delete them using script manager thinking I could clear the folder and start and anew with just one backup so I would know which one was which...so I booted into recovery ...backup to sd card... and it stalls out at " freeing up space..." . I let it sit there fir about 45 min before pulling the battery and rebooting. What should I do? any help is appreciated some what of a newbie here...

Why don't you just use a root explorer and delete the entire clock work mod folder.

Yup. kintowofan is correct. Since you are trying to erase all your backups anyway this is the easiest way.
