Stupid ads on transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How can I check what app keeps posting ads on my statusbar and it's really annoying and my transformer randomly lags and locks up? Any suggestions?

Get "Airpush Detector" to see what app you install is pushing ads to your status bar.

Tablet Wallpaper from Mobile Spy I found out was to blame in my case.

Why would you install anything from a place called "Mobile Spy"? Their name tells you what they plan to do.

I think you should have to reinstall all the apps of your smart phone. I was also facing the same problem then I reinstall the apps.

[Q] new market app

I'm having a problem with the new market app. It sends me notifications for some dating app.
If I go into settings and untick google admob ads it doesn't make any difference.
Any thoughts how I can stop these?
Thanks

Are you sure its the market? How do you know its the market? I noticed ads in the notification bar from a mp3 downloader, but not from the market itself.
No, not certain, but if I click on the notification it opens the market at an app for the dating people. So just a guess
Sounds like you have some kind of rougue app on your phone...Market isn't the problem...you installed another app that has this extra crap in there that tries to get you to install the dating app.
Check the apps youve installed recently and remove them until you find the one causing it

I've been using the apk that was posted here since yesterday with no issues.
Im having a problem with ICS Market. Or 3.2.0. It wont let me purchase any apps. Tried clearing data. Uninstall/reinstall. I can download free apps but get an unmarked error(no info just error) when trying to purchase anything.
Sent from where ever I was when I posted this
(fingers crossed) I think I may have solved it by deleting the Air Hockey app I had downloaded from the market. I think it may have had a little 'extra' item included.
Once I know it's stopped for sure I'll name and shame the app on here... otherwise I'm still looking!
There are a few apps out there that do that, one of them is or was the free
version of a '3' network usage checker. Kept getting push adverts until I
uninstalled the thing.
OK, no more notification pop up adverts, so I'm saying avoid - Glow Hockey 2 -
Thanks for the help guys,
Stewart

you could try logcat and figgure out what package it is refring to
It's adware caused by an app you previously installed. Go to the market and download "AirPush Detector" and run it. It will scan your installed apps for the ones causing the adware notifications.
Darn, I was gonna say that too. I think it's something that devs put into their apps instead of ads in their actual apps.
Ads-on works well to get rid of the offender. I know wootwatcher has push notifications in it. Beware these are popping up more and more and adfree type apps that alter host files are failing to block them.
small envelope logo on my notification bar
I received this envelope on my notification bar and it isn't my gmail, when i scrolled down my status bar i saw the envelope and had some chinese words. is this an ad or spam? how would i solve this annoyance guys? Thanks whom ever can help. Peace!

Addons Detector is a nice compliment to Airpush Detector.

Pop-up ads while navigating phone UI. WTF?!

Ok, at first I thought I was crazy or mistaken, but I totally just got a full screen pop-up ad while navigating the UI.
What could be causing this? I don't have any ****ty applications installed. Only legitimate ones from major companies.
How is it possible I've getting pop-ups within the UI? This time I was merely clicking a folder on my home screen to access an application when suddenly a fullscreen ad showed up from Google's ad network.

Actually, I've just tracked it down.
I'm using my friend's app which displays ads on start-up from Google. If I enter the application and then leave the app quickly before it serves the ad, it will end up serving the ads after you've already left the application.
I know he isn't trying to do anything malicious and just called him to ask about it. He was surprised it did that. This seems like an Android bug.

Ads pop up everywhere on my phone

Hey does anyone know why I have advertisements popping up on my phone all the time?
It's random and occurs in all apps and I checked for virus with a scanner and it doesn't say anything. Has anyone had this issue before and know a solution? Idk what I clicked that might have caused this bug. Ads usually are games that lead me to the play store and not anything explicit (if that helps)

Start in safe mode see if they still show up
If it is in games, if you're rooted try downloading an ad blocker. Since they blocked it from the Play Store you will need to Google it.

Still safe mode will disable all third party apps and any potential malware on your phone
think of it as a fail safe boot like how Windows has it
Heres how to get into it
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/2852139?hl=en
how to get out of it? just shutdown your phone as you normally would and start it back
This is odd. Have you downloaded something from outside the play store? Do you have unknown sources enabled? If you didn't, then something is horribly wrong here. If you did download and install any APK, delete it.
If this is something from the Play Store itself, we have to report it.
To be completely safe, as others said, run the phone in safe mode. If they still pop up, flash the factory image...something went wrong. If they don't, it's an app.

There is also another trick that I found some days ago.....restart the phone and then let the google logo go, when the boot animation starts keep pressing the volume down button untill u get to the lock screen....ur safe mode should be there

Please take a screenshot of such an ad to help us see what the problem might be. Also have a look at installed apps to see which one may be causing it.(preferably list all 3rd party apps you have installed, or simply a couple of screenshots)
Also as mentioned you should try safe mode(long press the "turn off" button in the power menu), to see if it still happens.(if not, it is one of your 3rd party apps.)
You could try and use a nifty app from the Play store called AirPush detector. It will look through your phone to look through which apps might be showing you unwanted advertisements.

It was definitely an app that you installed, there are some apps in the playstore that if you install them will show ads. This is sketchy but I guess they want to make money somehow....
this is how many free games/apps stay free

Popup ads? I understand ads in the game, but I've never seen ads that pop up in system apps. That's not allowed per the google play TOS. I'll be sure to report them if you give me the names of them. I have apps on there too, and most of them don't have ads, but the ones that do are always unobtrusive.

Oh I can't remember what app it was it was on my nexus 4, I installed something and everytime I would hit home it would popup like a sys warning message but it would be an ad.
I would run a virus/malware scan and stop using questionable apps.

This. People keep complaining about Android having viruses when they're downloading all kinds of things like "free smileys" from random sites. 99.9% of the time, Google Play has clean apps, but there are still some apps that Google needs to filter out better. They need to completely ban air push and other notification ads or really anything that doesn't stay within the app.
EDIT: This wasn't meant to bash the OP. I'm talking about other people, and hopefully the OP didn't download this kind of stuff.

yea. these apps open in the background. and since they are "open", their ads pop up. these arent the same kinds of ads that open in the app itself, theyll open in the status bar or just pop up. again, they are usually included in free apps/games that are usually of lower quality.

Wow. That's dumb. Oh well, I would never download any of those shady apps anyway, and neither would most people, but I still wish Google would have a bit more strict guidelines.

[Q] Websites forcing app install directly from Play store

Hi everyone,
I had a headache yesterday with an app called Zombie tsunami, from time to time it started downloading directly from the Play store without even asking me, I had to clear Chrome data to get rid of it, maybe some javascript, that started this process automatically, clearing cache wasn't enough... I don't remember the website I browsed, but it really suck, I have a Nexus 4 on 4.4.2 Stock.
Did anyone else had a problem like that?
Is there a way to prevent this?

Uninstall the application! Or change "permissions" or use a "firewall" to block internet access.

I did that, but after I uninstalled, once in a while it started downloading and the notification icon appear, I noticed some sites were showing a confirm dialog to download mobogenie, and this zombie tsunami is also from a mobogenie company.
