Need ICS rom with bluetooth tether enabled. - HTC Sensation

I've been too lazy to root, and tired of swapping sims to my N1. going to root the senny, I need a rom with bluetooth tether enabled ( tmo disabled it in their build).
thanks.

forgot to mention, I'm tethering my bb playbook tablet, not a computer, so easy tether isn't a viable workaround.
if anyone sees a rom with this feature ( its in the atrix, and some other stock roms) please give me a heads up.

anyone? just check your rom to see if you have a bt tether option
I'm tired of having to use this crappy bb phone to be able to tether my tablet all day. wifi hotspot drains the battery like nothing on both the phone and tablet.

Have used bluetooth tether on android revolution and cyanogenmod. bluetooth seems too slow for my taste.

What Verizon/Android phones have you tethered with a non-rooted Xoom Wifi?

I'm officially over my WinMo TP2. I am going to get a new Android phone through Verizon. Was looking at the Droid X, but open to suggestions.
1) What phones have you all been able to successfully tether to the Xoom Wifi WITHOUT it being rooted? Also, I do NOT plan on paying Verizon for their mobile broadband option. If that means I have to root the phone, I'm fine with that. Please let me know if that's the case.
2) What Android/Verizon phones do you recommend in general?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
I am currently tethered to my Droid Incredible. Running Cyanogenmod 7. I know you were looking for solutions without root, but you also stated that you didn't want to pay Verizon for tethering. Not sure that you can do that without rooting. The native, built in tether with CM7 works great. Based on my personal experience, if I were in the market for a new VZW phone I would probably look at the Incredible 2.

The Xoom doesn't have support for ad-hoc tethering without being rooted. If you can find a phone that will tether wifi in infrastructure mode, the Xoom should work without issue.
I've got both my DroidX and Xoom rooted and I tether my Xoom to it without issue after installing the tethering mod for ad-hoc support.

I know you asked for vzw feedback but fwiw I've been tethering flawlessly with my evo.

I can do the same thing with my HTC Inspire from AT&T, granted my phone is rooted but it hooks up without a problem to my unrooted Xoom on the Hot spot!!!
Verizon is going to charge you every cent you're gonna tether to your xoom. So no tethering or hotspots unless you root it

[Q] Tethering with my transformer

I just got my transformer and was planning to tether with my droid eris, only I have come to realize that wifi tether is ad-hoc, and unsupported by the tablet, and bluetooth tether is not possible on my little old phone. what rooted handsets are you using to tether your transformer?
I am using a Captivate as a wifi hotspot (Mobile AP) and it works flawlessly. I use custom roms and have been allowing my wife to leach with her iPad (yuck I know) while we are on the road and such for a while. You don't have to use custom roms but it seems to me to be the best way to get the feature without ATT plan checking getting in the way.
I'm on Verizon, and I'm hoping for a phone that's easily rooted and flashed. I love me a good Rom.

Me too!
I'm in the same boat that you are. I have a rooted Droid Eris (XTRSense 5.01). It tethers easily to laptops via wifi or usb. It even tethers easily to iPads. Of course, it won't tether via wifi to my TF, or to any other Honeycomb tablet.
I have screwed around for several days trying to establish bluetooth tether. I can get the Eris and TF to pair, but not to connect. I haven't given up on this yet.
I am also trying to establish USB tether through the dock. The Eris and the TF connect okay, and the TF thinks that the Eris' SD card is a hard drive and lets me explore it. But so far, no tether. I'm still trying.
I use my htc evo and it works great. 4g speedm is nice.

use the wireless tether v3_0-pre14.apk on this website code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list it tethers my Samsung epic 4g fine with my unrooted transformer
I've been using wifi tether 2.0.7 I think. Works great on the phone for everything else..... Has anyone tried with the moto droid. I definitely applaud badger for trying the bluetooth route. I tried it with both kaos froyo and tazzfroyo and tazz ginger with no luck. I read somewhere that the droid bluetooth stack wasn't as well developed as the hero since it had such poor sales.

[Q] Xoom not tethering

Hey here's the lowdown.
4g xoom w/tiamats 3.2.4 lte rom. Same kernal packaged with the rom.
I've searched around looking for a wireless tether app to work with the xoom.
Wireless tether 3.1-beta, wireless tether 2.0.7, barnical, etc.
None work. Trying to tether laptop to xoom. Thanks.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Are you just NOT paying attention to the initial post for that ROM? It clearly states tethering, at least 4G, does not work with that ROM. You have to disable LTE. It is a bug with the Kernel/ROM and it should be fixed soon.
Luckily I'm not as much of a nob as yu think. I did read the op of his thread and saw that. Even when in 3g (toggled via settings), it won't tether.
For some reason the apps won't complete the process of setting up the tether. IDK if its something to do with the roms settings or the app. I use wireless tether personally on my x2 and it works great.
Guess I should say it fail at "starting softap" and "activating wifi interface".
Hope this helps with diagnosis.

Try removing any security and see if it works?
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
Security removed and still no joy. What is everyone else using to tether their xooms 4/3g?
Side note, hotspot notification from rom (blue tether hotspot notification) shows up when wifi tether is running.
Updated to beta8 and still doesn't work.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
I don't use any special application, I just use the Wifi AP ability that is already native to Android.... it works fine with the XOOM.
That's funny cause everything that I have used, even the ap android tethering, doesn't work. Idk. Maybe I just have bad luck. Thx for yur guys help.

[Q] any solution to tether with ICS?

Hi all,
I have been trying for a while now to get the wifi tethering app and the native hotspot app to work in ICS on my NS4g (i have flashed all the ICS roms and even back tracked to older 2.3 roms) but nothing seems to work. The other devices can see the network and connect, but there is never any type of data exchanged. (the wifi icons never show an active online connection) I can use my GF's Evo with the unlocked Sprint hotspot to connect every device I own (tablets, laptops, etc...) but my Nexus will not work at all. I can get the ad hoc tethering to work with the old wireless tether apk, but only my laptop recognizes the connection.
Is there any rom, app, or fix to get my Nexus S 4g to tether in infrastructure mode? I love this phone, and the lack of tethering is persuading me to jump back on board with my OG Evo.
Any help, insight, or recommendation would be appreciated. I've been searching online for weeks looking for a solution and have come up empty.
Thanks
Jason
Have you tried open garden ? On the market

Yes I have tried it. That app only supports ad hoc connections
Wow I do not have this issue
Try the one in the phones settings with a simple name ssid like "cranberry" and have it be open.
That's what I do. Also wifi has to be off.

Tethering to a galaxy s2 does it work for you?

I don't seem to be able to access the Web on my gt+ if I wifi tether to my galaxy s2. Does it work for anyone here?

I tether to my Verizon SGS1 by using "Wireless Tether for Root Users" on market. If you are using an actual tether plan but it isn't working then I hope someone answers you as I think I'll run into a similar issue inside of 6 months.
Wireless tether for root doesn't work with wifi or Bluetooth on the s2 with standard rom or with hyperdroid ( the rom I use and arguably the best) I think it does on cm7 though
However I missed the built in wifi AP option on my s2 and through that I CAN connect!
I'm just about to put cm9 on my s2 to see what works with that

in wireless tether for root app u need to enable the access control in setting
It looks like wireless tether is discontinued now and replaced with wifi tether 3
That seems to work on my s2 but whats the point when the phone has wifi AP built in anyway?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I think the idea behind it is to do tethering where the manufacturer or carrier has REALLY crippled tethering on the device. Pointless on any S2 - worst case you need to nuke AT&T's bigbrotherware on I777s.
Native tethering is superior to nearly all of the apps - it actually puts the device into access point mode, most other solutions use adhoc mode, which few Android devices support without hacks. Unfortunately, after talking to garyd9, it sounds like the Tab Plus has some weird Atheros customizations to wpa_supplicant, which means the adhoc-support-modified variants will probably fail on the 7 Plus.
tethering
Have you removed the tethering app from your S2? If not you need to remove that app using root file explorer from system, if you are rooted this will enable you to tether. I know it sounds too easy but it works. If it works for you please thank me.

I have never ran a stock ROM on my phone, could be why I've never had problems tethering. Been running miui on my mt4g pretty much the whole time I've had it. If you want native tethering in AP mode, flash either a cm or miui ROM

Works very well with sgs and sgss2 and my gt6210, all with root, but I dont remenber if I ma de the test before or after I root the tab
Anyway I use stock software to do it on each device, and no problème, it is like bluetooth, very easy and simple
Tethering works perfectly on any i9100 (as long as the user has a data plan)
Tethering on US iterations of the i9100 are completely carrier dependent.
