Sense 4.0 ugly - HTC Sensation

Am I the only one who passionately HATES the new clock widget on the HTC OneX? Ugh... www.htc.com
Sent from my HTC Pyramid using XDA App

No you are not the only one. The new widget style is very awful IMHO!

thats the future

IMHO 4 is much more beautiful especially clock

Really?
I think it looks a lot cleaner and slicker.

i really like the new clock..however for the ones who don't like it there will be mods for it don't worry

I think it's nice that, after four years, HTC has actually employed a graphic designer to redo their user interface.
The previous Sense, all the way to version 3.6, was contoured, cartoony and outsized. Sense 4.0 is much more refined, less cluttered and has all of the gradient-bubbles removed so it looks a lot more professional.
I think the Sense 4.0 haters will be in the minority. Plus, the default backgrounds are being changed to some nice photos instead of that rainbow stuff on previous ROMs.
Small changes, but I like them, and it makes HTC look like they're actually evolving from what they started out with. One of the biggest gripes in the Sensation reviews was that Sense was fundamentally unchanged from the HTC Hero. Everyday users know this isn't true, but now it'll be more obvious.

I like the rainbow stuff to me it looks really nice

Don't get me wrong, I love some of the new wallpapers in 4.0, but that clock was literally a kill joy for me! I was AOL excited about sense 4, and I tried out trip's endeavour port, but was grossly disappointed. Not by the from, it is quite good, but the UI! The menu animations are really amateur looking, and the clock actually looks like a crappy imitation of the sense clock IMO ( *.*)

Definitely like most of it, (launcher, music player, etc. ) but those widgets kill me!

Glad you like it then, I'll stick to beautiful widgets I guess! I was just thinking, why do I really care, I haven't run a sense rom since trip's cm9 alpha came out!

That's not what I meant. I meant they've rejigged their design philosophy, possibly by taking on an outside agency, possibly by restaffing their interior department. I don't think a single person designs anything - graphic designer, in my post, referred to the firm or department that made Sense 4.0 fit better with ICS's design philosophy.

yes the only thing i don't like are the widgets style...we have work for the themers

Sometimes, these widget looks ugly but very usefull but the downside is taking up bit RAM as i encounter in previously.

lol, many people will disagree with you... I like the look of honeycomb wayyyy more than iOS. I think honeycomb is gorgeous. I can't wait for ice cream sandwich.
I have to go with mark on this. iOS's UI is a lot smoother and cleaner than any version of Android to date. Does that make it better? Depends who you are.

Theres a unofficial port for it but a lot of its functionality is stripped.
Honeycomb is definitely beautiful though. Very smooth and solid.

I agree that iOS is old and boring but its still better designed than Android, honeycomb included. Honeycomb is a lot better (and fresher, so I prefer it now over iOS' design) but its still isn't as well designed technically.
In terms of design, I personally like WP7 the best.

Will android ever be pleasing on the eye?

Sure you have various skins etc but I am talking about right at the very core, take even the messaging app as an example iOS has a beautiful glass effect, android has a horrible box, even the menus etc don't come close to Apple, Sure this is all minor but I remember looking at my first iPod touch and thinking WOW just by its appearance, i've never said that about androids appearance, now functionality is a different story completely but this is purely about aesthetics.
Each to his own, I like the non gloss, but then I use the same windows theme that's on 98.. soo.. Just me maybe

OP, I'm not sure what you're after, but with a little work, I've gotten my Android looking much more pleasing than my jailbroken iPhone ever did. The previous suggestion of MIUI is what might be right for you. For SMS specifically, GoSMS looks fantastic, and is customizeable to boot.
That is the joy of Android. You are never stuck with what you have. You have the ability to customize everything.

Oh and this, I use Touchwiz
It has always been like that: If you want it just working for normal use, looking sharp and staying out of trouble, take the iPhone. If you are willing to put effort in it, take Android and you can make everything just a little bit better. If you are not willing to, dont..

Miui vs Sense 3.0/3.5

Go! Personally I am using Miui right now. I started on VU and then gave Miui a try. It feels a but quicker on Miui and their seems to be a lot more customization

Oh boy. I see this going south. I LOVE miui because it has sms popups, themes galore, a nice dialer, and awesome support.
Sense is beautiful, has many variations, the system apps and widgets go on forever, and it really shows off what android is capable of visually. That said, it seems to take a tremendous amount of work by devs to make sense ROMs easy on the ol' battery. That, from my point of view makes them bloated. But, they can be made into fantastic daily drivers as has been shown repeatedly.
Lately I've used MIUI.

You probably think that TJ is being harsh and ruining a fun thing. But you have to take into account that redundant threads like this pollutes the site and when a noob tries to do the right thing and search for a thread he/she needs it'll be harder to find. And all he/she will do is ask the question in a thread that's been answered many times. Thus, it all just creates the circle of problems.
Powered by a G2x
I ran both.
MIUI on Nexus One, which is incapable of properly running even Sense 2.1, having no devs to completely solve everything (trackball wake) and no graphical power to move it smoothly.
Sense 3.0 on MT4G, which is capable of running it fast and smooth.
Personally, I prefer Sense - it is visually and functionally better. While MIUI fixes a lot of things that stock Android did wrong (T9 dialer, notification bar toggles, launcher - in the aspect of adding widgets, smoothness and effects), it still falls short when it comes to Email, text selection (standard Android has selection position bugs and isn't nearly as comfortable as Sense), and just overall visual experience. But MIUI is small and fast, and on older phones it counts - and it supports A LOT of phones that have no better options. So, for me, if the phone can't run Sense or TouchWiz properly - MIUI would be the next best thing to choose.
I go to miui once in a while but find myself coming back to sense 3.0/3.5 only because its just so awesome... Sense is hands down the best thing that happened to android it adds so much to android... Basic stuff like browser ,mail, contacts integration made perfect.... Sense makes android beautiful with brains but miui on the other side is definitely for lower power phones like say moto defy or something like that... Btw love both of them

Takes 100mb memory and looks depressing with its old layout and theme..
Because I love sense best android overlay out there

Theres hundreds if not thousands that would disagree with you. The sense launcher IMO is the most polished and smooth, I dont notice any lag like others claim. Just out of curiosity, what launcher do you prefer over sense?
Ive never really liked Sense until Sense4 came out. Sense4 is really nice, polished and fluid.
Cause its actually pretty good.
Free memory= waste.
Sense is alright, I prefer apex/nova
used to like stock android for past 3 years... but now.. i just cant go to the same boring looking of stock android after using sense 4

Sense is more than just a launcher. it's a whole framework too.
Sense is the main reason I still buy HTC devices.
It's a matter of taste and opinion. If you don't like it, that's fine. Plenty of others still do.
This thread isn't very productive and it only lends itself to banterous flaming. Closing down.

Do you like TouchWiz?!

So far, I installed TouchWiz, the Launcher for Samsung galaxy smartphones via recovery
Personally like this feature/mod! It's not laggy and it gives me 1 clock widget from Samsung, but deletes my current clock widgets...
Style is beautiful, but don't gives an Icon Pack!
Do YOU like TouchWiz on Htc ville ?
Send your homescreens with it
(I didn't created TouchWiz mod for htc ville... I searched and found it on xda :*)

I hate TouchWiz. Maybe that's also because I hate Samsung devices in general
My common configuration is a Sense based ROM without Sense. In fact it's without the Launcher (Prism.apk).
As Launcher I use Nova. Love the combination of speed and animation with it. Also it's very low on power consumption. TouchWiz also has a very stock look but I dont like the design elements in settings, notification bar and so on. The extra features it provides I dont miss... with Xposed Framework I get everything I need.
I really don't like the touchwiz too. Sense 5 is perfect for me
Imo touchwiz looks like a 5 year old made it in art class in the last five minutes of class I love how sense looks it's a really nice ui

No. Too cartoonish and immature looking. That's one thing why i don't and will never buy a samsung device.
I'll stay htc and sense. Updates doesn't matter much to me since why, in the first place, are we here in xda?
I cant even think of the immature touchwiz UI after using sense for the past 3+ years....
Recently switched from HTC One S running Sense 5 ROM, to the Galaxy S4
I dont mind the look of the icons, it's not like I'm staring at my screen 24/7
Sense has nice features, but I prefer TW in that department
It's like a fight
Sense 5 Launcher vs TouchWiz
I'm for sense 5 launcher^^

Yea it's made "easy" but it is still good ;o
