[Q] Some characters are not shown - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one knows why when I open a document or a web page (etc) that contains ancient greek or similar characters some of them are shown like little square boxes?
PS1: The characters that are not shown are the only-ancient-characters, for example the word "ένα", that means "one", in ancient greeks is writen exactly the same way, but with a small additional symbol over the first letter. So the first letter is shown as a square and the rest are shown normally.
PS2: When I open the same document with a PC, all the characters are shown normally.
Thanks for the help.

Problem accessing site with XDA Exec...

Hi All,
i'm trying to access the following site with my XDA Exec (HTC Universal):
http://www.sikhitothemax.com/new/Larree.asp?PageNo=1
ignore the fact that it is another language. as you'll notice, when you hover over the text, a broken up version of the sentence being hovered over appears towards the top of the window. when you hover over the arrows, the text will move up and down you can also enter a page number and jump foward. apart from going up and down pages, there is no clicking involved.
the problem is when i try to access this site on my XDA Exec, all i get are the two arrows and no text. i do get the page up and down buttons though which are active. i don't think it's a font issue because if it was i'm sure i'd get the text mangled-up but there nonetheless anyway...
as a shot in the dark, i installed Macromedia Flash Player (i think 6 0r 7) and this works fine with sites that use flash but no joy with the site concerned - so i guess it maynot be a flash problem...
any thoughts - i'd really appreciate them...
thanks.
jagroop singh - newbie!
I think the problem is that Pocket IE can't run the java script which comprises the entire page. There is no flash and no plain text on it (right click in regular IE then select view source).
Sorry, but I don't know any fix for that.
At least they are building a site version specifically designed for PDAs, when they are done you will probably be redirected there automatically once you access the site from your device.
thanks levenum.
i think they opriginally planned to make the site more pda-friendly but its been a few years now - i guess they gave up on the idea...
any more thoughts anyone?
use another and real browser
pocket IE is a joke

ASCII input

Hello .. I would like to enter a special ASCII character in an Android app - specifically an ASCII 255 (blank).
I recalled that in DOS/Windows, you could use Alt+255 to achieve this.
I can see, using Hacker's Keyboard in several apps, that Android does not appear to accept this type of input.
Can anyone recommend a way to enter an ASCII 255, or at least get this character on the clipboard?
The answer was "character map" from the app store. Copy arbitrary unicode to clipboard.

unsure if it'll work, download the "hacker keyboard" from the play store (its free). It has numbers and the Alt key too. If not try this : might help :
search for : com.z1i.copyspecialchar

[Q] [IDEA] Am I the only one having the idea of this app?

Well, now that you have opened this thread, please have a look at what I want to say.
I am new to HTC Sensation and I have tried some apps which claim to add words from text file to Custom Dictionary. But there are some devices on which it does not work, and, unfortunately this does not work on Sensation either. So, I am having idea of an app which does the task in a new way:
All it should do is to 'read' words one by one from our given text file and then 'type' it in a text editor like New Message. But before it presses 'space', it should touch the first suggestion given above the keyboard. First suggestion is always the word that we originally type, no matter whether it is in dictionary or not. Touching it will add the word to dictionary. I believe that this is easier to apply as this is a manual method and does not require editing database file.
Second method (a bit more technical):
Open given text in a text editor like New Message or New Gmail email (gmail, because it also underlines words which are not in dictionary and supports big number of words). Then touch every word one by one. If a pop-up menu appears on a word then it must select the 'second-last' option. This is 'add to dictionary' button.
I am not a developer, if I were, I would have made this app myself. So I can only give theory.
If this can be applied, it can be useful for many users who use transliteration method to type in their languages.

Best Writing Method ... from old Microsoft Mobile 6

Hi wonderful developers,
I was disappointed with the pen writing application in the Note.. I used to use the stylus application with the Windows Mobile 6.1 - HTC Touch HD - phone and it had a -- Letter Recognition -- writing app built in which was brilliant when u got used to it after a few days.
I could write faster than typing and no need for extra pressing of buttons to get characters and punctuation. This was especially useful when using Spreadsheets and entering times with a colon separator as well as formulas. It was so good that I still carry it with me and use it to log all my jobs, times and notes for my work. It is very fast at Character recognition but it's so slow opening files etc and has a small screen compared to the Note 2 7105.
It had an Input area at bottom of screen with 3 sections. The first for Capitals (write as a normal lower case letter) The Middle section was for normal lower case letters and the Right hand side was for punctuation , numbers, and symbols etc.
IT WORKS GREAT ! (once you get used to it)
Is it possible to make this for the Note 2 ?????
The resultant size occupied at the bottom of the screen can be relatively small compared to a keyboard etc....
Please Please Please consider this - it really is the best Input method I have found yet !
Thanks
and thank you also developers for all your hard and ingenious work which is transforming my Note 2 into a fantastic necessity...

I remember those days, and yes that writing pad on windows mobile was nice, not that fantastic but it was truly easily to learn
You can change character recognition speeds on Note II, you do realize that right? Which aspect of Note II handwriting recognition don't you like? Because it's pointless talking about WP 6.1 app, so should have posted this in Q&A section as for which app has such and such features.

[Q] Perfect Keyboard Pro question ... ?

I've tried dozens of keyboards but always end up landing on Perfect Keyboard Pro as my default. Its T9 key and voice key are appropriately placed, and its basic, yet customizable layout is superb!
There is but one little annoyance. It seems to come preloaded with dictionary words that I can't delete.
For example, if I type the word after, then AfterDawn pops up as a suggested word (as much as I like AfterDawn, I just don't type it enough for it to be in my dictionary). Another example would be if I type the word only, I get Molybdenum as a suggestion (I had to look that word up).
These suggestions are not in the stock dictionary, and don't pop up as suggestions in any other keyboard I install, so it must be exclusive to PKP.
Tried emailing you at [email protected] but no response, has anybody had any luck with this app's user dictionary?
