Sensation takes a fall... - HTC Sensation

...and lands without a scratch!
My gf dropped my phone tonight while taking a picture at dinner. Phone fell from about 1.2m, hit her leg on the way down and hit the hard tile floor screen side down with quite a bit of force.
Phone was naked and is still in perfect condition!
Whew! and Woohoo!!!

the point was to show how resilient the phone is!
at least i didnt post in android development forum, can i at least get credit for that!? lol

Mine falls 3 times, from 1,5m, 2m... even when running for bus, on brick... no scratch at all, except small scratchen on back

Mine fell once completely flat with the screen facing down. I was at a store and the crash sounded so bad that even the cashier made a bad face. The phone looked fine but seems like the vibrate motor came a bit loose.

Yeah, I think my vibrate motor became loose after a bad fall too. Now every time my phone stops vibrating, I tap the bottom back of the phone, but I might need to tighten it somehow D':

Well, mine was in the breast pocket of my suit the other day when I was shot. It took the bullet but the force still threw me backwards into a busy road where I was run over by a bus...not a scratch on me or the phone. No, wait a minute, none of that happened ; )
I will say that the screen is far less scratch resistant than my old HD2 which didn't need a screen protector, whereas this one definitely does. Corning's gorilla (Gerald) obviously had a bad day when he made the glass for my phone.

LOL, Do you have furry palms?
the devices do tend to generate a reasonable amount of heat while being operated so this isn't all together surprising...what country do you live in, whats the normal temperature there?

UK - it certainly is, do you have a black or silver unit?
Although either way I'm sure that they both have paint cover over the metal uni-body?

Lol, I think that you've hit the nail on the head - it sure is a sexy bit of kit
use a case, maybe it helps... I'm living in a all year summer country but don't have any sweat to my phone
I think that the satin black finish on mine seems to accentuate even the slightest fingerprint, but it does look nice!
Never faced the sweat issue although I'm in India. Felt it very slippery when using with one hand. Bought a Casemate barely there case and it is now very nice to hold in one hand.

I must say I like the looks of this phone very much, but after having dropped it (fortunately on soft surfaces) a couple of times, I decided to sacrifice beauty for safety and got a hard case called "casemate". Believe me it's definetly worth. It is reasonably thin, covers the corners and has a rubbery texture that gives good grip.
on the downside, of course you wan't be seeing the sexy logo on the back anymore...
Doesn't it degrade your wifi and phone signal? I have a casemate
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
I definetly is better than holding the phone by it's metal parts. I've tried, with relative success (maybe it's just my impression) using reverse landscape (capacitive keys to the left), like this I can hold the phone without toucing any metal parts. Check it out and see if it works for you.

When I put desire s in my pocket of my Jeans pant and ride bike. I always see power off. The bad design is battery cover and power button at top

Cracked screen putting in the battery!

My wife was changing the battery on her sensation and didn't get it all the way in. When she was putting the back case on the pressure caused the screen to crack! I admit it is dissapointing that this happened with such little force. My theory is that without the back cover the screen has very little support... Anyways I just thought I would put that out there into the sensation knowledgebase so people hopefully can avoid this mistake. I have never seen a phone this vulnerable to changing a battery!
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio using XDA App
I thought it was pretty obvious that the back cover isn't only a cover but the actual frame that accounted for the majority of the structural integrity of the device.
I just think its a shame that you can crack the screen by changing the battery.... My wife and I have had a total of 7 different android phones and I have never seen one that was vulnerable to changing a battery! Just thought people should know to be MORE careful with this particular phone because of the design.

I am having this issue as well. I am going to call Tmo to exchange it.
I don't think that will fix the problem. Your replacement will most likely get the same results
It wont solve the issue. I went thru 7 G2s all with dust under the screen. Im telling you you will get use to it. HTC qc sucks ass.
Sent from my Senseless Doubleshot using xda premium
I was thinking about doing it until the limited warranty ends
I've heard of people complaining about this "issue" a lot now, but I've never experienced it. I've had an HTC DREAM (ADP1), HTC VISION, and now my GF has an HTC DOUBLESHOT. There has never been an issue with dust under the screen. I would suggest that it may, therefore, be related to EXPOSURE to dust. Possibly related to how you protect the phone. Do you keep your phone in a clean pouch? Or do you drop it in your pocket along with whatever other cruft you may be walking around with? Do you work in a particularly dusty environment?
In any case, the issue would be that the digitizer sits above the LCD. The only place where dust could conceivably get to that would be visible as "under the screen" is between the digitizer and the LCD. You should be able to disassemble the phone and wipe it out (after warranty expires). Until then, use warranty, and then protect the phone from dust.
I've never had issues with dust under my screen, but then again I've always kept my phones in a G1 pouch
http://www.amazon.com/T-Mobile-HTC-Google-Phone-Pocket/dp/B001OOEQJ2
The only time I've had an issue was when I took apart my MyTouch 3G slide and touched underneath the screen and got prints all over it and put it back together without realizing it, so that was entirely my fault..
No dust for me. Have my phone on me 24/7 in an extremely dusty environment. I am a powder coater
I am usually covered head to toe, with powdercoat and metal dust. Kept loose in my pocket and I use it 3-4times an hour to check the time.

Never had any dust in mine either, but I pouch mine like RazoE and take absurdly good care of it. Used to have a G1 that I bought used and it never had any dust either.
The earpiece on this phone is kinda big; perhaps dust is making its way in from there?

Upon further inspection, it seems this might actually be the port of entry; see attached photo.
The glowing blueish area in the red rectangle is the LCD, pretty much open to whatever can make its way in, i.e. dust. There is another opening similar to this further down the track between the screen and keyboard and you can see it pretty well if the screen is lit up.

Bad luck
You know, last summer I was able to get back to life my HD2 after it spent a night out under the rain in Thailand!
When I came back home 2 weeks later, I gave it to a technician (a brilliant one, I need to say!), a colleague of mine.
He put it in a glass of alcohol overnight, then he cleaned everything, then he reset the MICROP (whatever this thing could mean ), and I had had my HD2 back the next evening

Yes I had dust behind my screen too, it was like a 'jet' of dust, a spray of it, starting at the left hand side and getting wider as it went about 1cm across my screen. Luckily it happened in the first week of my contract so Orange swapped it for me. I've heard HTC will sort it free of charge too though. No problems with the current one so far. But read a lot of people had a similar problem.
I have a few specks of dust under mine, guess I never checked it well enough when i changed my digitiser. I will just pop it off again sometime and clean it.

thats strange mine was on the left handside to thin at first then got wider
well got all the prices from my local shops to fix it and they went from £50 upto £100 then i remember i have instrance through my bank for such a thing as acidental damage and they only going to charge me £30 excess but lose my phone for a week on the plus side will probs just get a refurbished one as everyone in the shops i asked all said that there is no garantee it will work prooplerly again.
