Factory reset Noob - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unrooted ,untouched TF101 with OTA ICS.
How can I do a factory reset and keep all my stuff ?
In storage I see my SD card is almost empty so all my photos and such and stored internally, How can I move them so they won't get lost ?
What about free and paid apps and all their stored information too ?

Just move what you want to save (photos and such) to the external sd card or to a PC.
Your apps that you download from Market is link to your Google account so once you sign back in with the same account it will get restore.
Data will be lost

I'm kind of in the same boat, except I did try to use Asus App Backup, except that it fails on all. I'm trying to backup 23 installed apps, 167 MB total - well under the 600 MB limit. This is after the ICS update. Any suggestions as to why it won't work? Tried titanium (free version) but it seemed to be overkill for what I wanted to do. I don't have a ton of pictures or music, all that can be easily replaced. I'm more concerned about a few apps I've gotten from Amazon and a couple of other places (all legal), but may not be able to re-install.

Hate to have to revive this but i haven't been able to find an answer. Mine always freezes at 7% or 12% no matter if full or partial app list. I lost root for awhile with .21 update so couldn't use TB. I am now rerooted but trying to get Asus' stock app to work on their product as ridiculous as that may sound. Doesn't matter if I use internal or external sd card.
That brings up another issue that my tfp keeps losing recognition of my external sd card. Havent been able to find any help on this either.

[Q] What is the best way for me to do a full backup?

What is the best way for me to do a full backup, given that there is no sd card. Does that data stay after a wipe? this is pre root. Previously I would use astro, but I'm not sure of the no sd issue. Guess I can mount and backup to pc.
Any suggestions?

There is an sd card...just that's its internal. The data stored in the sd card is safe after you flash new rom's after a wipe.

Thanks.

The best way to back up your things are to connect it to your computer and simply move whatever you have in your internal SD to your desktop or wherever you'd like to save it to. That way if anything should go wrong you have it on your computer

You can back it up to the Cloud
if you have Titanium Backup PRO
you have the option to backup to Drop Box
you get a FREE 2GB, when you sign up
which is more than enough, since our internal memory is only 1 GB to backup
He's pre-root, so Tit Pro won't work, as it requires root.
Since he's PRE-ROOT, he will lose everything on the internal sd card if he tries to do the FASTBOOT OEM UNLOCK command to root.
Best thing you can do right now is plug up to USB on the computer, copy all contents to your computer and copy back after rooting/restoring.
The internal sd card is safe from a "factory reset" kind of wipe but NOT SAFE from a bootloader unlock.

yeap, that's the only Drag in the NS rooting method
back in the SGS it was so straight forward, just unroot, and you are done, you don't even need to reboot the phone
much less Format the whole thing, just to get root
Ok, good thing I waited. It's a ***** to export app settings too. Now to pick a good rom.
Thanks for the help.

OK, copying internal SD contents is easy. But how to make a backup of things from internal storage?

You can't. There's no way.
This is why many of us rooted ASAP, to avoid accumulating data (like Angry Birds progess, LOL) that we would lose once we rooted.
There are apps to backup SMS messages, and your contacts, calendars, etc, should backup to the cloud. All you're going to lose is apps data that isn't saved by the app to the sdcard.

[Q] Asus App Backup broken after ICS

Did OTA update to ICS on stock B90, then rooted with vipermod. Root is confirmed. Now I'm looking to backup installed apps and user data using the Asus App Backup app. Everything sets up fine, password entered. 21 apps + data selected, file named, etc. Get message that it will take about 10 minutes to complete. Pathnames are correct, folders are present, permissions seem ok. Runs for about 10 seconds, comes back with " 0 Successful " and 21 failed. Red x's by all selected apps. Any ideas?
Ultimate goal is to backup apps and data, then do a factory reset to clear cache and data from HC, maybe even do a stock recovery to ICS then set everything back up. Trying to see if this will clear up any of the annoyances that came with ICS update.
125 views and no replies. Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Yeaah.....
Well I don't really have a solution but i'm certainly experiencing the same trouble u have I Did OTA update to ICS on stock, then rooted with vipermod number 1 option on the vipermod. Root is confirmed. Im trying to restore a previous backup I did and no luck error message is "Failed to restore.please try again"
I just ran a backup of 10 apps to test it on Revolver 4.0.0 Beta 1.31 ICS. Worked perfectly for me.
You can try going to Settings - Apps - App Backup - Force Close then Clear Data
Then try running the backup again.
Just for reference it's worked great for me twice on rooted ICS (stock) from rooted HC (stock). Good luck.
Where are you storing the backup, internal SD or external (microSD)? Encountered this one before until I found out that there wasn't enough space in the microSD. Suggest try to back up first on the internal SD and copy it later when it's successful. On ICS, I had done two backup and restore and all went well.

Backup path is set to internal, with a copy going to external microSD. MicroSD is 32GB and hardly anything on it, so room shouldn't be a problem. Might try without creating a copy file, and sending it over manually.
Tried that and failed again. So it would seem that it just doesn't like writing the apps and data. When I look in the Asus/App_Backup directory, it creates folders for all the apps, but then doesn't write anything to the folders. Interesting.

No....trying to create backup of apps after ICS update so I can do factory reset. I actually went ahead and did the factory reset last night, and got everything back from Amazon and Google markets, not too painful, but still would like to know what's up with the backup utility.

well I fix my problem. Flashing Revolver 4 by Gnufabio | 4.0.0 Beta 1.3.1 then restored all app with no problem at all.

How? Do you mean that you fixed it BY flashing Revolver 4, or that you fixed it first, then flashed, then restored?
I'm on a B90, so not really looking for flashing ROMS right now, as nvflash doesn't work.

Restore Titanium Backup through dropbox

I uploaded my apps to dropbox because my current Nexus S broke. When I got the new one I could not restore my apps. I rooted the new phone and installed TB and DB and did this:
With Titanium Backup 3.6.4 (or above):
If your backup folder is empty, then with you can simply switch to the Schedules tab and hit the “RUN” button in the “Sync to Dropbox / Box.net / Google Drive” section to download all backups from Dropbox / Box.net / Google Drive back onto your phone.
The downloaded files show up in TB, but when I go to run all missing apps with data it says 0.
Sorry for the stupid question but I already did the searches and other than this I came up empty handed.
Just move the TitaniumBackup folder to SD. Wouldn't that be faster? Maybe something got corrupt from DB to TB.

Your backup may have been corrupted if moving to SD didn't work.
So I downloaded a few apps and tried it all over again but with less apps. Same problem. I'm doing something wrong or not the right way.
Sent via Radio Telegraph
I think something must have been corrupted, because i have done the same thing repeatedly and never had any problems. I just copy the TB folder from the sd card to a new location and point TB at it. I have done this from my evo, to my nook color, to my wifes epic touch with no problems. Since i dont ever save system apps i dont worry about restoring incompatible files. Only app that ever has a problem is Swype keyboard. I have to download that one new every time...
Yeah, but everytime I do it with a new set of apps it still doesn't work.
Sent from my GT-P6210 using xda app-developers app
So I learned I have to set the preferences in TB and tell it where the backup file is. Anyone else know what else I might not be doing?

Backup and restore
Using Backup&Restore Drop-box plugin on Word-press is really helpful. It has Unlimited dropbox backups, Unlimited dropbox restores, Unlimited local backups and Unlimited local restores.

Backup all of my apps to a pc?

I may be posting in the wrong thread so if that is the case plz let me know.
So, I want to install another rom in my phone and as we all know I guess, that means that I will lose my apps. Although I can use titanium backup to restore them afterwards, this time, the problem is that I dont have enough space to do the backup as usual... And I already own an 8gb sd card so dont tell me to buy a bigger one(if I do I will download even more games to play xD)... So, could I somehow make a backup of my apps into my pc, since it is the only place where I have enough space? Oh and I want also to have the data of each app( I am on a limited data plan for a couple of months)
Any solution will be greatly appreciated

Remove some items from your sd card n make dwm backup then later u can place the cwm backup on ur pc
n can restore later
I've got two easy solutions to your problem:
- try out Carbon and find if it's able to back everything (app+data) durectly on your PC (personally I prefer TitaniumBackPRO and I've never used Carbon, but a friend of mine told me that he uses it to backup+restore stuff)
- try to create not just one single big and heavy backup with Titanium BackUp but...just more than one!
I mean, you can select to backup half of the apps+data you've got in your phone in one backup, upload it to Dropbox/Drive/Box...and then do the other half-backup of apps+data of your phone.
Maybe it's not that fast but it's easy...and you don't have to use any other apps than the one you've already on your smartphone.
Cheers!

Helium app should dao it for you. Afaik you will be able to back up your app apk as well as the app data. Search for it on google play. You will have to download Helium app for your PC as well. That will enable you to backup stuff to PC.
:good:
Why not just get another SD card lol. I would delete my old backups if you don't need them and transfer the files I have on the SD card now to the PC. Then I'd use titanium backup and save then transfer that contents to my PC.

You could try Titanium Backup its gr8 but you need a pro version.

Internal memory full

Hi,
I have the original Note 10.1 and it has been working great for over a year but recently the internal memory just keeps filling, no matter what I do. I have cleared out all unwanted apps & data which worked for a while butn a matter of weeks, & without downloading any more apps, it's become full again. I then did a factory reset which worked well, but within 2 weeks same again!
Any ideas?

Could be one App that is synchronising data to the tablet.
Do factory reset.
Remove the memory card
don't use any apps
and monitor the storage space used. (if the internal memory is still getting low so the tablet need to reinstall the firmware)
Make sure you don't setup DropBox account to see what will happen.
after this try one app at a time to see which app is eating the storage.
final option is to do reinstall of the stock firmware again using Odin.

I'm on 4.1.2 it's been fine since I did the last reset but I took the memory card out and haven't put it back in so I don't know if it was something on that that was causing the problem
