[Q]Going Back to S-On, HELP and warranty. POLL - HTC Sensation

Hey guys, I need some help and feedback. My Sensation has been having many issues lately. I have constant random reboots with everyrom, headphone jack has some issues, dust under screen and a semi broken vibrator. Im planning on sending it to HTC and have to S-ON but i've read many threads stating that their phone has been bricked after trying this:S
It would help if all you guys that have tried it Comment and vote on this thread please. and if you bricked post if you were able to solve this or send it to HTC.
And a couple of more things. If I brick would HTC be able to find out ,and how much would they charge to fix that?
Or what would happen if i send it to HTC S-OFF with the stock ROM. Would they still be able to repair hardware related issues at no charge?
Thanks guys sorry for making this so long!

A few weeks ago I had to S-ON to send it in for warranty (the USB port broke, so it was a little tricky to S-ON). I followed most of the steps exactly (except I flashed the RUU from a .zip from the SD card and skipped some of the supercid stuff), and it worked without any problems once I managed to get usb to work long enough to send the fastboot command to S-ON. Just make sure you use the right RUU for your phone and check md5sums when you download (the first two times I tried to download it had a bad checksum).

Thanks!! and you used the guide in the sticky right? I wonder why so many people have had bricks when doing this.
Anyone else? The more feedback the better!

I use the guide in this topic (its at the bottom of the OP): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193033
It worked for me twice, I don't know why people bricked their phones, guess they didn't follow the steps properly...

I've send my phone last thursday to HTC, the problem was soft buttons become unresonsive after charging overnight via stock cable connected to PC. Kinda really weird but it was exactly what happen. I was able to S-On and flash the asian ruu buts its kinda different from my original rom. now im crossing finger that they wont charge me for the repair hope to get by delivering it tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who has posted and voted. So i guess if i do it right i should be safe. If anyone else has done this please share!!
EDIT: Did everyone who got S-ON successfully stay with SuperCID or go back to the stock one??

Ok guys I did it and all went as planned!!! Thank you!

Good.. and woohoo im getting my phone today. HTC called me and will be delivered by 1pm SG time

Dead Desire S - Any help?

Hi All,
My Desire S decided to die today for no apparent reason:
I had been browsing the internet before jumping in my car and switching on the bluetooth. I had been driving for about 10 mins when I got a call through on my cars bluetooth system, about 3 mins in to the call the caller disappeared even though the car said it was still connected.
I pulled over to check the phone and found it was frozen on the call screen. So I disconnected the battery and powered it up, but it could only get the the HTC splash and sound before the screen turned black and the unit became unresponsive.
A few more tries gave the same issue, so i decided to boot it into recovery to do a full wipe, this completed successfully, but the phone was still doing the same thing.
After removing the battery again the phone will now not turn on at all and does not respond to the charger (no led). I've tested another battery, but still no luck, and tried the bat from my DS in my sisters DS and it works fine.
So my phone is completely dead it seems. I should probably send it off to HTC for a repair, but the problem is that the phone is S-OFF and i have no way of getting it S-ON while it's bricked.
Can anybody suggest anything?
I'm not having much luck with HTC as my mozart is at the repair centre as we speak with a bootloader issue... I might have to choose another manufacturer in future
PS: It was S-OFF but running stock software
there is not much to say...try to remove battery and wait for a while...if issue still persist htc service is only hope

Thanks, i'll leave it overnight and see how it looks in the morning. Luckily i have an optimus one spare that has always served me well... It just does not come close to my DS.
I've just had a development!
When i plug it into my windows 7 pc it recognises it as a device "QHSUSB_DLOAD" but fails to install a driver for it.
Can anybody elaborate on what this is?
Thanks!

Afraid this is not good news...you'll need to reign the device and claim under warranty, I wouldn't worry of you made it soff they probably won't be able to tell, read the recent posts on the ext4 recovery thread as same thing happened to someone else
Sorry

Ok thanks for letting me know. I must remember not to customize my HTC's in future...
Is not customize`s fault is yours because you removed the battery when it was still working (freeze yes but chip is still working) :| How ben_pyett said you must send it to htc... there are similar posts around here and all removed the battery > htc service ...sry mate

Shame the manual doesn't say so then!
Well i've got it booked in for repair.
Has anybody here had many dealings with HTC Repair, or Regenersis (the UK repairer)?
The guy I spoke to over email (i got fed up of waiting on the phone) about my Desire S was a complete retard. He sent me the same email 3 times in reply to me telling me to restore factory settings... Each time I told him it was not possible as the phone would not switch on...
He then told me that UPS could not pick up my phone for at least 2 weeks, this is despite the fact that I sent my Mozart in for repair last week and was told at least 48 hours. So I would have to find my own way to post or courier it.
Then he books the phone in and sends me the 'Tick Sheet' with the phone information and problem description and in the problem description box he wrote "HELLO"??? WTF? What sort of jokers are these?
At least the woman I spoke to about my Mozart was helpful, she actually gave a meaningful response to my questions, but even she got the problem description wrong, writing just "Reboot Cycle" which is way to vague considering the problem it actually had.

I'm I lucky..LOL or my phone is crap?

Hi, all.
Here is the situation....
In the past week or so I been getting update notices for .....45.....
Message was so brief that I haven't had a chance to get all numbers..
After accepting an update phone was hanging on the exclamation mark doing absolutely nothing over night...
Of course, I have my phone S-off and rooted. Nothing else was done yet, same stock ROM with no alterations. Now the tough part. Since that attempted update battery life was awful... Needed to charge almost twice a day...
NOW!!!! Does not take the charge at all... Charger works, charging my HD2 + USB computer charger nothing works. When plugged in and I remove the battery, insert it back it gives me an amber light for 5 seconds, then goes dark. Cannot boot with power cable plugged in..... Bunch of crap...
Did anybody else ran in to the same problem? Was that update meant to kill the phones with S-OFF? Or it's just my phone crapped up or battery?
Please give me some guide... 3 week old phone and so many problems.
Thanks all!!
No problem to bump my post.
Phone doesn't charge at all
Never, really never install an ota on a rooted ROM, even if its stock. I guess you should start by reinstalling stock ROM and wipe before. The charging thing is a known bug due to recovery. An update is available which you should install. You will have to manually charge the battery with a cut charging cable. Instructions can be found in this forum.

My Sensation froze and died, has any others experienced this?

Everyone, I am starting this thread with one purpose and that is to see if others have experienced this problem. Also if so how many people have and if it is a major issue or just a freak thing that happened to me.
Ok my Sensation was running the stock ROM for the TMOUS Sensation which was the recent OTA update. This also means I had reverted back to the stock recovery too when I went back to the stock ROM well over a month ago. My Sensation was still Super CID though as far as I know. Now that should feel everyone in on the software that was on my Sensation.
Now for the problem, I was typing a text message to a friend this morning and as I was typing my message my Sensation froze up. This alone was odd as my Sensation had only federal up once before sense I purchased it back in October. Anyway I knew I had to pull the battery to reset my phone. But I was on my morning break at work and break time was over so I just put my phone in my front sweater pocket and walked the 5 minute or so walk back to where I was working on the job site. I pulled my phone out of my sweater pocket and noticed the screen was black. I pressed the power button expecting my phone to wake up but it did not. I pulled the back cover off and pulled the battery out for a full minute and reinserted it. My phone still would not turn on. Also to add my camera flash flashed once when I reinserted my battery. Anyway I repeated this process several times and still my phone did not turn on, but the flash only flashed that one time.
I got home and tried my wife's battery from her Sensation but still my phone SD not turn on. I tried my battery in her Sensation and her phone turned on fine with my battery. So I concluded my Sensation was screwed and proceeded to call T-Mobile costumer service and spend about a hour on the phone with them until they agreed to send me a replacement Sensation.
If anyone else has experienced or experiences this in the future please post here in this thread.
Edit: Thank gosh I still have my HD2 as a back up device.
Edit 2: I came across a post that lead me to a thread started by XDA Senior Member namila007. It had other XDA members that report their Sensations dieing in the same manor.
Happened to a Desire S once. Froze, remove & re-installed battery the phone did booted to the splash screen only, but not any further. Replaced complete board under warranty.
Well this does not happen to most people but you should go for a new one under your warranty but sorry I do but know how to fix the problem
Nope, but I can say, that I am did the same thing as you did. Like reverting back to stock, and still having supercid. I've done that 2 month ago? Nothing wrong with.
That sucks man. I had that happen to a vibrant i had.

Yea, this happened to me too. I was playing some xbox 360, went to check the time on my phone...Wound up a few hours later feeling like a turd and waiting for a replacement from Tmobile.
No idea what happened. The last thing it did was make a noise when I plugged it into my laptop, prompted my computer to install drivers (failed) and then mentioned that dreaded message that implies the phone is needing to be flashed by the factory. (QHSUSB_DLOAD)
If you see your computer mention QHSUSB_DLOAD, then your phone is 100% bricked.
Matt
Just wanted to say thanks for the replies to all and thanks for everyone that has viewed this thread. And just in case anyone missed it in the OP, I am currently waiting on my replacement Sensation from T-Mobile. It will not arrived until the 25th of January. Again thank goodness I still have my trusty HD2 or I would be without a phone until the 25th.
Now to the post above me, I have not even tried to connect my Sensation to my computer because it will not even power on what so ever. The charge indicator led does not even come on when you connect the charger. So I highly doubt I would even get anything at all if I connected it to my computer. But I might just plug it into my computer out f curiosity to see what does happen.

Hi,
Hey,I am really sorry to hear about your phone.
It is very rare that people report total failure like yours,so I would imagine that it is just a freak situation.
I am also glad that you are getting a replacement without any problem.
Other than that ,hope all is well with you.
I assume this is quite a common problem. I received my sensation xe just a few days before the new year it was constantly over heating down the bottom where the touch buttons are causing it to shutdown / reboot this was when doing basic tasks like browsing the web. I then had my phone completely die a couple of days ago.
I took the phone into a vodaphone store yesterday and they exchanged it with a new handset.. I haven't had any problems yet.
I was reading through the Sensation Unbricking Project thread and found the below quoted post. I thought I would add it here as it matches what happen to my original Sensation

Call HTC they will replace it you just have to pay for shipping its like 20 bucks I had two phones replaced and they arrived in a week don't waste your time trying to fix it. you should still be under manufacture warranty cause this phone is not a year old yet.

Ha ha thanks but I have had my replacement phone for at least a month or more. I actually revived this thread because I finally found another post by another member that claims to have had their Sensation. I feel like they way my Sensation died is a pure hardware failure.
I started this thread in hopes that others that had the miss fortune of this happening to them could find this thread and know that it had happen to someonelse. Also so maybe a fair consinsus of what may be the cause, if it is just random, and some kind of idea of a percentage of devices it happens to.
I see that namila007 also started a thread about his Sensation dieing in the same way. It is a copleofother people that have posted in his thread saying that their Sensation deied in the same way. I am going to up date the OP with a link to his thread and post in his thread as well.
what to do :/ i also think its should be a hardware failure . im going to contact htc coz im still under the warranty

The Best option:
If its in warranty period, replace the device.
I agree , it is best to send in for replacement or repair. I wish you the best! Hopefully they will replace it without a problem. Good luck!

Absolutely revert back to stock!! If they see It's rooted they will love to deny your repair! Their are some really great guides to help you go back to stock.please follow them to the letter because the last thing you need right now is a brick! I would first read though the guide, then have it in front of me to follow to the letter! Then you should be just fine to return your device! I've read where people bricked going back to stock bricked because they did the order of things wrong or jumped Ahead so make sure to follow the guide exactly! Once you get back to stock they will accept your device without problem. Perhaps tell them the lines just happened I'm not sure if a drop is covered. Just to be safe . I know they love to deny repair . Then you should be good to go.! Keep us posted on how the process went for you ok? Best of luck, sorry this happened to you!

Hope I'm not too late on this.
My Sensation suffered the same thing about 4 weeks ago.
The lines correct themselves somehow while the screen is off/phone is charging.
Over the last 4 weeks, the lines on my screen have become much less visible, as well as much less in number.
Of-course, the best thing to do is to get it replaced, but if that's no longer an option, you could try what I did.
I left the phone on the charger for as long as possible, and used it as little as possible. It's really as easy as that.
I'd recommend shutting off your phone and leaving it for a week though. I couldn't do that cause I didn't have a replacement phone for the time, and I could only keep this up for about 3 days. Still, number of lines was less than half of what it was (and much less black than before). I'd imagine that a week of being switched off will fix it up (more-or-less) completely.
By the way, don't look-up dead pixel correction methods. They only made it worse for me.
Hope that helps.

Had the same problem earlier, when i dropped the phone accidentally.
Observation: It gets darker and grows when the phone heats up, and lighter (almost cyan blue) when the phone cools down for a significant period of time, with the screen off.
i had to keep the phone near an air conditioner vent for a few hours with the phone turned off for it to disappear .
once the lines disappear completely they dont return back, unless if you drop them again (which is what i did a few days back again.. and the stupid lines are back )
If you have any other ways in which you can get it resolved pls share with us.
PS: dont know how keeping it on charging solved it for you, because with my phone charging heats it up and the lines become darker.
Cheers,
Alan
Both method working, but I don't know yet how long. I tried to cool my phone down in a simple refrigerator (without SIM, microSD, battery) in a plastic box. I had two whole horizontal black lines, and know I got only 2 tiny after 6 hours cooling. Perhaps it will be permanent

Urgent Help needed on HTC Sensation :(

Hey Everyone :crying:
I've had my HTC Sensation since around late October 2011, and thus far it's been a pretty great phone, however an hour or so ago my phone stopped doing what I was doing (playing Need for Speed) and let out a very high pitch squeal and the screen went black, it just stopped responding to anything I did. It wouldn't turn on, It won't charge, and the only thing it does when I plug it in to USB is play the external hardware sound on my computer.
When I first heard the high pitch squeal the phone was insanely hot at the bottom, I understand that the CPU/Hard drive/Charging components are stored at the bottom of the phone so I'm praying nothing down there is fried, but I thought i'd get some opinions from others before I went down the contact HTC Warranty road.
The battery was quite hot when I took it out but it cooled quite quickly and so did the phone itself. The phone wasn't on charge when this happened so I'm not quite sure what's going on here.
Being without a phone is a big burden to me and I don't want to have to send it in for repairs unless absolutely necessary, so any advice would be appreciated.
And yes, I have tried the volume-down and volume up and power button press, it gave off a vibration once during this process which I repeatedly tried over the course of an hour, I've taken the battery out, I've tried a spare battery, I've left the phone and battery disconnected and untouched for an hour and repeated processes above but to no avail, I've tried a spare back cover, checked all contacts are making a good solid contact, I've tried everything that people mentioned on the site, so I'm pretty much just trying to figure out which piece of hardware has packed up on me and how screwed I am
Oh, and I have the phone rooted. It's running Elegancia Sense 4 v2.7.0 with SebastionFM 1.5.2 Kernel.
:crying: :crying: :crying:
If it recognises your phone as in download mode when you connect to pc then its bricked and not recoverable.

Doesn't HTC have a once year warranty? Then send that puppy in because that's a hardware issue if I've ever heard one. The only other time I heard about someone with a Sensation's phone making that noise, they had to send it in.
Sorry bud. The intensity of the heat you're saying was applied to the phone's components (through no fault of your own unless you were overclocking) might have fried something inside.
It could easily be that something has unbinded from the motherboard

Yes by the phone making that sound I would agree you need to send it in for repairs. As mentioned your motherboard likely has a problem. I wish you the best and keep us posted on what's happening with the repair. Good luck.

Sounds to me like yet another case of sudent hardware failure. I hate it happened to you my friend but as others have mentioned send it in for a warranty replacement. The hardware is fried so HTC will not be able to tell that it was running a custom ROM.

When i do "the wire tricn 2nd touch phone stays on a blank black screen and does nothing.... oh and the sdcard is not recognised after doing this and the phone keeps going to QHSUSB_DLOAD
I'm sorry to say but I believe that QHSUSB_DLOAD is a true brick. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong! but I believe your device is truely
bricked. You can however try the unbricking project. I believe you can find the guide in android sensation development. I do wish you the best and sorry to be the barrer of bad news. Hopefully the guide will work for you.

no no its not a brick !!!! the phone went to deep sleep state. QHSUSB_DLOAD can be achieved million ways and it not always corresponds to true brick
OP..
remove battery , sim and sdcard and charge the phone via power outlet for 6-7 hours then the phone should boot up (be sure to have a good charger ..or the original htc charger )
Ok thanks I was thinking that was what they called a true brick. Thank you for correcting that.

Thanks, device is NOT bricked as when i get blank screen after 2nd wire touch if i remove battery and reinsert and reboot phone it goes back to temp root status bar screen ready to run juopunutbear S-OFF, i just do not seem to be able to achieve S-OFF as each and every time i do 2nd wire press it goes to QHSUSB_DLOAD mode, i have now been trying to S-OFF for over 8 hours following instructions to the letter. so basically my repaired sensation is useless as it is simlocked and has horrendous bloated orange firmware on it :crying: :crying:

Well to keep you updated I have today spent a further 5 hours so far trying to unlock bootloader and S-OFF with the wire trick... :crying:
I have tried a paper clip and multicore and single core ethernet cable and when ever I seem to get the timing right for wire trick on the 2nd touch it sends my handset into QHSUSB_DLOAD mode
I know it is my timing that is at fault and not the software, just getting square eyes from watching the wire trick video, (I sort of have been trying to say "half, 1, 2, half) which when I watch the video back it looks right but all i get is a totally black screen and no led lights, if i touch a 3rd time it goes into QHSUSB_DLOAD mode and a 4th touch brings it back to temproot status bar screen.
What would be helpful was if there was an audiable tone to know exactly when contact is made in the video as the finger kind of blocks the view (just an observation as the timing is crucial) or is that me just being picky as I don't seem to get the timing right lol
I'll keep going till I get it right as the phone is useless in it's current configuration to me with a locked bootloader and S-ON with bloated Orange firmware.
Just a thought, I have an old version of the Orange RUU which was gingerbread I believe, if I was to flash that would I be able to reverse bootloader to 1.17 ?

That's sad man timing is failing it seems.. Or the wire is bad.. Did you reduced the wire trick timing phase like this?
0.5 sec tap - - 1.5 sec pause- - 0.5 sec tap
Btw you can't use a ruu to downgrade as long as you are SON man
Join the juopunutbear irc channel.. And seek their help live.. They can surely help you wire trick timing
