[Q] IOS Vs Android OS whatsapp database ?! - General Questions and Answers

Hi all
I have whatsapp installed on my iphone and I used for quite long time and then I has been now using it on my android device but I found that I can't retrieve my old messages from the iphone to restore it in my android device !!
I found that IOS store the conversation in a file called Chatstorage.sqlite whereas Android OS save it in a file called mesgstore.db.
I extracted both and using a sqlite database viwer I found my messages but unfortionately both structures are different.
So is there any guru/geek/developer/programmer who can help me to import my old messages form chatstorage.sqlite ( Iphone whatsapp version ) to msgstore.db ( Android whatsapp version ) or at least to change it into .xml file that can be restored as sms ?!
Thanx in advance.

iphone SMS to Android solution?

How would I restore and migrate my SMS from iPhone to Android? I already got the SMS into CSV format in Missing Sync but I can't seem to find a way to get that CSV onto the Nexus One. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Here's what I got down so far. I can convert the sms.db in iPhone to CSV, but the CSV format isn't the standard Nokia, so when I use the Android csv2sms, it doesn't read it. Is there any more direct way?
I am building an CSV importer for Android. But I don't know how Missing Sync format is.
Could you please send me a sample file? (not your real content of cause, you can send me via my private box [email protected])
Thanks and Regards,
Bao
Update: please visit http a.baole.org /sms-migrator to see how migrate your sms from your old mobile to android phone. You can also download app from Android Market named "SMS Migrator"
That'd be awesome. Unfortunately, my SMS is a bit private and its quite large (20mb) so I cannot email it to you.
Code:
"Type","Date","Time","Number","First Name","Last Name","Company","Message","Device"
"Sent","3/19/08","4:59 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Joe","Smith","","blah blah blah message here","So and So’s iPhone"
"Received","3/19/08","6:42 PM","xxx-xxx-xxxx","Jane","Doe","","whatever the message goes","So and So’s iPhone"
The xxx-xxx-xxxx is the phone number. Date and time is pretty obvious. Type is just send and received. Name is separated into first and last. I don't put any contacts by company, but I guess it exports it by that too. The message is the main part of the SMS. The device is the phone name defined in iTunes. I'm sure you're familiar with that if you have an iPod.
When you're done, I can test it for you if you'd like. I shot you an email too in case you don't visit here often.
I may extend my Nokia csv2sms if you wish, too.
Please send me a sample file of your exported sms if you have a special format. Thanks
I'm pleased to inform you of a new release of Csv2Sms !
This new version enables users to import their SMS messages from any format for FREE (0.00 $). (CSV, XML or even SQL !)
Check this out at shar.es/mb0OA
Goo'Luck !
Thats not even the original iPhone format but something else...
The original what you get out of "message" table from sms.db looks like this:
Code:
"ROWID","address","date","text","flags","replace","svc_center","group_id","association_id","height","UIFlags","version","subject","country","headers","recipients","read"
"1","NUMBER_IN_INTERNATIONAL_FORMAT","UNIX_TIME","TEXT_OF_THE_MESSAGE","2","0","","1","0","0","4","0","","COUNTRY_CODE","","","1"
The sent/received tag is contained in "flags" number 2 = received, 3 = sent
I've been struggling to get this working with your athg2sms script, but it doesn't still work...
I just wrote something that may help you, you need to install "SMS Backup & Restore" from the Android Market, though - then you can import the generated XML file.

when I try the DB the website fails.
Can anyone help me out here
I have extracted the SMS.DB file from my iphone and have SMSMigrator installed on my andriod; just need to convert from the db file to an xml
Thanks in advance

Hi gwoo_ca, please read the instructions on the page - there's a link to "SMS Backup & Restore", which can read the XML.
Yes, sorry that is the andriod program which I am using (not sms migrator)
I think the problem is the XML conversion website, doesn't seem to work when I choose db on the drop down menu.
Maybe I am just dumb but I just can't get it to work
Okay, give it a try now - i've reinstalled my server a couple of days ago, maybe there was something missing. Works for me now!
Awesome, that did the trick
Don't know what you did but it works great now so can't complain
Much appreciated
Hey guys , what if I wanna do vice versa ? Convert text from android to iphone ? any idea ?

Import SMS from Android to iPhone?

Hi!
my sister got an Android phone for her birthday, but after some time, she realised, she doesn't like it so much...She decided to buy something more "user-friendly"(i don't understand her, she's crazy!!) and she decided to buy an iPhone.. But she has no idea, how to import her sms messages from Android to iPhone(if it is possible). Don't you know any solution, how to get it working??
Thanx a lot
Try saving the sms' to the sim card and just transfer the sim across, and save them to the phone.
if it works give me the android. Her loss can be my gain.
You can use "91 mobile assistant for android(visit www.91.com to download)" backup sms messages.
then, use "91 mobile assistant for iphone" restore your sms messages.
P.S:Your iphone must JB at first,and add weiphone(app.weiphone.com/cydia) by Cydia(install afc2).
Ok, thanks a lot i'll try it

You can use SMS Migrator here: http://www.androlib.com/android.application.org-baole-mainimporter-iCDt.aspx
SMS migrator only works for importing to android, not iphone.
91 mobile assistant android can only export as txt xml or csv,
91 mobile assistant iphone can only import .db files.
Is there no way to convert an xml into a db?
You mean export.
So I guess it's not possible then?
This is so amazing, with all this modern technology out there and no, there is no way to move data from product a to product b? It seems that this industry is indeed stuck in a thick cloud (of how to make things extremly hard for customers who want to switch).
Jailbreaking an iPhone 4s would not be that easy and I personally do not like to do this.
Why can't apple step up and create a "easy to transfer everything on the android to iPhone" application and google could do it vice versa? With what we have now it is either forget your data transfer and be stuck forever or throw it overboard and start from scratch. This is IT from the stone age and not the fancy miracle pixie dust stuff that is printed on the sales boxes.
I'm just switch from android to iphone,
is it really no way to convert sms from A to I?
My sms brought from my Palm -> WM -> Android...

Hello Together,
as I had the same problem (my girlfriend switched from android to iPhone) - I wrote a complete App that views the android sms-table on the iPhone, checks out contacts from the iPhone adressbook and allows to delete not needed messages!
If you are interested in the solution (as I'm still working to get it certified from apple) you can already contact me under philipp[at]frenzel.net
If you don't understand why it's only a viewer, this is because apple closed down any methods to add records to their tbl_messages in the background (uihuihuihui)
Took me days to dig into this "specials...".
Cheers Philipp

I used smsbackup + and I successfully copied all the messages on the database to gmail. But now my question is: how can I restore these sms on my iphone 3G iPhone OS 5.1?
Thanks

U can modify the sms.db itunes backup file for add/remove/manage sms/mms. For who know a little bit of database language, i think all is possible. Remember we talking about text message, and non machine-code
With Android system we can export on many ways the sms (for example in xlm) and with another software (OSX, Windows, Linux) is possible merging the messages and create a new sms.db. After, with a synch through iTunes, we can have do the job.... Utopia ? I don't think....

Import/Export SMS

I currently have Nokia N900 and I am going to buy Samsung Galaxy S2 next month.
I have 7000+ SMS on Nokia N900 which want to import to SGS2.
A tool SMS Backup & Restore is there but it only works for Symbian. Does any one know any other tool which I can use to do it?
If there is no application available then can I do this:
1. The SMS on Nokia N900 (it has linux based OS) are stored in SQLite database and I can copy messages out from database as CSV, Excel etc.
2. Considering android has similar database for events like messaging / calls etc, can I import my messages via SQL?
What location and database is used to store SMS in android (specifically SGS2).
Can I access that database to insert data via (scripts etc)..

In the worst case, i.e. until someone comes with a better idea (there must be one), you can try to convert your messages to the xml format used by Android's SMS Backup & Restore - field description here,
there's also sth on importing from Nokia here
Thanks for the suggestion. I am going to give it a go.

[Q] SMS export from Micromax Q80 (Proprietary OS) to Android 4.0

Namastey!
I want to know what are my options such as JAVA based apps, which are installable over Micromax Q80, from which I can extract text messages if not multimedia and then import them to Android 4.0 (Xperia mini pro SK17i Mango), I would prefer if the application is of a web based storage kind, such as SMS backup plus, which stores messages in google mail then can import back but is there a JAVA based app that does it? Even I had problems with SMS plus Android app, when I tried to restore my messages on changing SIM and reverting back but that is a separate issue, thanks a lot for reading!
