Some kernels and mods include their own bootanimation.zip in the flashable package. If you want to keep your existing boot animation, remove the /system/media folder from the zip package before flashing it.
Also, ROM Toolbox has a tons of cool boot animations you can play with, or restore in case you lose your fav boot animation again (granted your fav boot ani is in ROM Toolbox).

Hello... I'm trying to change the boot animation on my SGS2 (ski-rocket)' with the app called "boot animation ",? But it doesn't change it? And yes I'm rooted. Am I missing something? ...anyone??

Boot animation on our device has been tweaked by Samsung. They're not using the same standard method most Android phones use. It's being worked on by a few of the devs right now and hopefully we've have something soon.
+1 For hating corporate logos.
Awesome ...I hate that att logo LOL

If you are rooted navigate to root/system/media/
in that folder should be bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
these are the bootanimations and some international ones have been posted for the t989 as far as I know. For bootanimation.zip to work it would have to be enabled on the kernel level. Good luck and enjoy your devices !
***The AT&T logo is most likely a logo.rle type of image that is embedded in the kernel itself, that is the case on the t989 and is more than likely mirrored on the i727
Hmmm.. rle files. There are actually two of those in the root directory.
initlogo.rle and lpminitlogo.rle
I googled a little on how to convert these around but can't do much from work (several paid apps, didn't verify if they work). Who can convert these and how can we convert other boot animations to this format?

I would love for someone to figure this out. I would like the Galaxy Nexus Boot animation on this phone.
Who ever is working on this I would be more then happy to donate to your cause.

Of course Rooted

SGS2 Bootup

right now you need to use custom ROM to do that.
this ROM work great and it let you change the boot animation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377087

Neither of these worked for me on my SR. CWM showed ICS installed fine, but when I rebooted it was still the Samsung and AT&T animations. So then I went back to CWM and installed the SGS2 boot, but I got the same result.
Any suggestions?

Quick question guys I downloaded the new kernel for both mine and my dad's phones. I am running eclipse and my dad is running stock rooted wiped cache and dalvik cache before flashing from 0115 to 0130 on both phones on my phone everything works great. Right after I flashed my dads phone, however, I got the samsung logo, could hear the "droid" sound but no droid eye boot animation. I installed root explorer and tried to install the nexus boot animation(which is working fine on my phone) on my dad's phone and same story you see the samsung logo, hear "droid" but no boot animation. I have verified the md5 of the file(all was good) and besides loosing the boot animation everything else is gravy(root works fine, sio, etc) Any ideas what happened? Thank you for your guys time

You might want to check the permissions of the sanim.zip on your dads phone. Make sure they are rw-r--r--

Well if the phone is deoxidized it probably would not work...
But if you mean deodexed then no it doesn't make a difference unless you apply a theme or change around system apps.
Nice catch yes deodexed is what I wanted to say. I am at a loss as to why the boot animation disappeared
Try deleting the sanim.zip file and reboot. See if the normal boot animation comes back
tried still nothing the reason I was tryin sanim.zip is the normal boot animation broke after installing new kernel

try to flash immosey kernel see if bootanimation is working again. This kernel is compatible with both stock and sanim.zip (make sure you spell it correctly -SANIM.ZIP). Your files must be deodexed for custom bootanimantion. If odexed, you can restore the original samsung bootanimation. Good luck.

I looked around in the forms but I couldent find an answer, ive had my charge for about a month now and the other day i was messing with it and i soft bricked it so i used odin and put it back to stock everything. When i rooted my phone i now don't have a boot animation I can hear the sound when it boots but its just a black screen until my lock screen comes up. Anyone have any idea how to fix cuz I sure don't. I'm running stock rom with 4.0 kernel and the fp1 radio update If that makes any difference.

Long shot, check in your build.prop located in /system to see if you have this line in the file, if you do just put a "#" in front of the line (without quotation mark).
debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
change to:
# debug.sf.nobootanimation=1
If you don't see anything like that, just use cwm, mount /system clear cache/davik cache, if still not working, do the same process but reflash your rom.

debug.sf.nobootanimation=1 was not in the build.prop, I wiped cache and davik but still nothing... I'm using stock rom if I reflash it won't I have to root again? I don't want to have to start from scratch again

Another long shot, check permission on these 2 files: bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg exist in /system/media.
I strongly believe that some thing wrong when you rooted your phone last time. if you take a stock rom with pre rooted and odin back, it won't take long and may solve your issue.( http://www.ponack.net/danalo/all_in_one_odin_ep4d.tar.zip) unzip and odin stock rom with root.

I'm confused, how is that not the right one? The youtube link you added had the stock G2x animation with Andy taking off. The file he uploaded was the stock \system\media\ folder, which had the animation in it that you wanted.
Am I missing something?

did you flash any other kernels? (if you flashed morfic's its know to break boot animations)
Download bootanimation.zip it has to be named exactly that. Use a file browser like root explorer to copy the bootanimation.zip and paste it in system/media folder. Reboot

i did this but then when i reboot its blank threw the whole boot animation
I installed the XenonHD ROM but when I flashed a different ROM, I found that I still had the XenonHD boot animation. Is there anyway I can fix this?
It's not a unique boot animation. It may be used in the ROM you just flashed. If all is well in the ROM that's probably what it is. If it gets stuck there & won't proceed, you most likely just need to flash the boot.img thru ADB.
Thanks for the Reply.
I've been using SilverL's AOKP ROM that has the AOKP boot animation. I only switched to the XenonHD to test it out then switched back. But now on startup, it only displays the Xenon's boot animation.
The phone still starts up normally, it's just the boot animation doesn't change no matter what ROM I flash.
Perhaps the ROM your flashing lacks a boot animation. Try another version of AOKP
If you did a full wipe there is no way the bootanimation from your previous ROM stuck around as its in the system partition, even if you didn't fully wipe flashing another ROM on top would overwrite your system partition and thus overwrite old bootanimation.
Both ROMs must be using the same one which as others previously said, happens all the time
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Of course, you could just change the animation for one of your own selection. Overhauling made a few available and explained how to do it so simply even I did it. Look in themes and apps under boot animation.
