I have revolver with CWM and root. I was hoping for a quick way to flash to ICS without losing all my stuff. I also put on blades oc kernel.
I really don't want to set up everything again. Paul's first ICS release actually worked with an upgrade. All I had to do was flash with CWM, clear dalvik/cache. It had all my apps and settings saved. Only problem was that thumb keyboard didn't work.
I get an assert error about AWS.apk when I try to flash the CWM rom daoist made.

Coming from Prime 2.1.1 to ICS
-I ran Titanium Backup to back up all app + app data
-Boot into CWM and Clear cache, dalvik cache, wipe data (factory reset)
-I flash the Full version of US* ROM from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1514658
-Reboot and once it booted back up I went back into CWM and flash the US version of this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334673
(This is to fix the USB connection problems)
-Reboot, sign in with my Google account
-Use Titanium Backup to restore app+data only.
-Up and running with all my apps + app about 30 minutes later.
-My desktop running ADW EX is exactly like it was from Prime 2.11, only thing I had to do was set widgets again.
*I use the US version but you use ROM for what ever is your region.
I ended up resetting and google install all my apps again. Keyboard sucks cack. Thumb keyboard crashes :-(
flash the ics update but don't flash blades kernel it is for honeycomb not ics (don't flash any kernel that is currently available )
When moving from one distro to another, a full factory reset is always worth it. So long as you've done a Titanium Backup and a Nandroid backup before hand, getting back up and running is pretty quick. I tent to avoid the google backup as it doesn't let you pick and choose which parts you want restored.
I use Thumb Keyboard without any issues on ICS. I restored it from a Titanium Backup without issue.
I had the old thumb keyboard lol. The 4 version works fine

I am loving my Revolver 3.0, but I really do not want to have to restart when I install 3.2. I have so many modifications, apps and such that I want all to be setup when I upgrade. I know OTA updating is available but I just need a quick run down on how to do such things. So essentially I just wanna be able to upgrade to 3.2 without having to re-install and re-setup everything. Lastly, with Revolver, will the ROM allow me to overclock using SetCPU with its native Kernel.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
-Kyle
as far as i remember, the OTA update dont wipe your data (but wait for more replys)
anyway , u can download Titanium backup , to backup the apps and data
about the OC, i use the revolver 3.2 , with clemsyn kernel OC to 1.4Gh , work flawlessly
Download latest Revolver Parts app from market, download 3.2 update, reboot into recovery (clockworkmod), make a NAND backup if you wish, clear cache and dalvik cache if you want, and flash 3.2 from sd zip. It won't erase your settings. Just flash over it, you'll be fine. Reboot. I do this every other day, i feel like.
Ok so I have mt TF rooted, CWM with backup done, I have the revolver rom on sd so do I need to do anything special like clear caches or anything and will I lose any of my installed games or apps ? I read that on Android rev hd you have to use super wipe lite and was wondering if you have to do that with revolver.
My tablet is brand new 3.2 HC but I do have some games and stuff I dont want to lose.
Thanks for your help.
I did not clear stuff for the first time, but it is recommended - and yes, if you wipe the system you'll lose your apps, but not what's on the internal memory (/mnt/sdcard)
As davebugyi said, it is not 100% required, but strongly recommended (you could run into issues if you don't do it) if you change roms. By that I mean switch between different roms, not just update your current one. I always do it when changing roms, using the CWM clear/wipe feature is usually sufficient (unless the ROM developer says otherwise in the intall instructions).
If you want to persist apps and app data, you can try one of the backup tools such as Titanium backup. I havent tried it yet with this device though..
Titanium backup
I use titanium backup to backup apps+data then do a complete wipe. Install revelover then restore titanium backup and all your files/games etc are restored.
Thanks Guys
I will do a backup with what you recommended and wipe then install. I just hope this revolver rom is worth it. Seems like everytime you look on the forum someone post a new rom.
best rom
The revolver rom is the best. One of it's features is when you click on the history icon it gives a list of history but they have a little red x in the top corner of each. Clicking the x closes the history for that screen. Keeps yout TF clean and fast. Other roms do not have that facility.
Enjoy
I've been trying to flash a few ROMs. I had the Revolver ROM at first which was working without a hitch, but I wanted to try the others.
I followed the following steps: data wipe, cache wipe, dalvik cache wipe, install ROM from zip.
With each new ROM that I tried, I used titanium backup to restore my applications.
Both EEEBomb and KRAKD had an issue with skype and tinyshark. When I signed into skype, it would keep notifying me on the bottom that sky is signed in via popup notification. When I played a song in TinyShark, it would do the same thing with TS. Also, when the tablet went to sleep, the TS music would cut out, cut back in, and cut out again.
I was wondering if you all have any experience with this. Is it because I didn't do a step properly or are these issues due to restoring the apps with Titanium Backup?
What do you think?
thank you.
Hello fellow ROM-flashers!
What do you do too keep your setup when flashing, what do you backup? settings, data, accounts and so on.
Is there any good way to backup and keep your settings, and so on... or do you have to redo all that after you flashed a new ROM?
Perhaps its recommended to do it all over again and again? ... I use Pandoriam 5.7 and are happy with it :good:
But then again 6.0 around the corner I sure I want to have the latest update. Dont we all?
I find myself redo my phone settings more then I actual use my phone
Wouldn't it be awesome if there was a way to update it as you do with a stock ROM.. so you didnt had to wipe all when you go from 5.7 to 6.0 for example.
I guessing there are a lot of reasons why this isn't really a valid option... but would be great

..TitaniumBackup....
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=titanium+backup
in free version no batch backup / restore...
backup system+app data
wipe system / data / cache / davlik cache in cwm - flash new rom... installl TB ... restore all.... finish
This should be in the Q and A forum
But yeah, buying titanium backup is the best purchase you'll ever make if you often flash ROMs with full wipes. The batch backup/restore process is brilliant, I have it also saving my backups to dropbox so if anything happens to my phone, I have a copy there too (4G is awesome for this).
I've also found the best launcher is Nova, using Titanium Backup to backup and restore Nova, I don't even have to setup my homescreen again (4 sized widgets, 4 folders, completely customised - you can see it in the homescreen thread in the Q and A forum), even the widgets are there after a full wipe which wasn't possible with other homescreen launchers. The only thing I setup fresh each time is my work exchange account.
By the way, you mostly DON'T have to wipe between ROM versions. I always do because that's how I like to do things (and due to the above I have the process sorted), but most poeple don't..
When updating ROM's - I do a Nandroid + SMS/Call log backup + Titanium backup of all user apps +data.
I the upgrade the ROM over exissting without any data/cache wipe. If I run into FC's after updating the ROM, I either restore my Nandroid or do a clean install of the new ROM and restore apps + settings from my Titanium backup.
I use online nandroid to backup full data. Works a treat and you can use your phone while backing up!
I installed B145 with the kat 80b kernel and the v3 battery patch and everything looks good. I had to swipe as I was using build 81 before. Quite honestly, since I'm not running any synthetic benchmarks nor overclocking the proc, I'm hard pressed to find any difference in performance from EOS 3. Mind you, the buttery feel on this ROM (and EOS 3, for that matter) is day and night when compared to Asus's stock code. So if you're like me and waited this long to root your Transformer (I popped its cherry just a month ago, after having it for 1 year), don't be afraid to try this ROM... the best thing to have happenned to the og transformer.
One question I have is, what are you guys using to constantly restore your apps and/or settings after repeatedly flashing new ROMs? It's a pain in the neck having to reinstall all the apps and setting them up! Thank you and special thanks to Timduru and his minions This thing is awesome...

I use Titanium Backup, but I let Google install all my apps, then restore the data.
There are a few apps I have to install using Titanium (from Amazon) that I have to restore using Titanium. Those apps I have to tap the Install button and Done for each one.
I tried using the App Backup in the ROM Toolbox by Jrummy, but it did not restore all the data correctly (mainly thumb keyboard).
I also make nandroid backups using TWRP so I can quickly restore a working ROM without having to reinstall stuff if something goes south.
I also use Titanium Backup but with some reservations. If you're going to go back to the ROM you're running, you're much better off with a nandroid backup. TB is cool for a few reasons: batch backup/restore, system apps or just apps, etc... however you have to be careful with it.
- Make sure you always verify your backups (often). Never assume "they'll work", cause they most likely won't - that's a known issue that it fails to parse its own packages once in a while, so batch restores just lock up the entire operation and you have to forcibly kill it to start where it left off.
- Always keep a copy of the backups elsewhere than on the tablet
- Just because it backs up a system app or an app doesn't mean it can restore it, even on the same rom.
- Some stuff like contacts need to be exported then imported back especially if you're upgrading to another android version.
- System apps will almost always fail to install on another android version unless they were "hacked" to make them work.
So yeah it's a really good and powerful tool but to use with caution. Always redo full backups and verify them before you wipe/flash and always have a complete nandroid backup to restore in case of issues, like Frederuco said.
Edit: Once you're on Team EOS's roms, I dount think you have to do a full wipe anymore. I just wipe cache, dalvik and system, then flash the new rom, that way all my apps are still there. I only do a full reset if I experience issues after doing this, to make sure it's the rom and not apps, and to report to Tim from a fresh flash.
Thank you both. I'll give Titanium a try whenever I try another ROM. In the meantime I decided to go back to EOS3 build 81. I *really* don't like the new status bar on top. It specially bugs me when browsing the web since it's eating up screen real estate.
[Edit]
This is probably a known issue, but for those going back from EOS 4 to EOS 3: the directory /sdcard was copied to /sdcard/0 after installing EOS 4; so, when I restored EOS 3 from nandroid backup, the system wasn't responding as it should and some apps were very slow (I guess expecting to find their data under /sdcard). Copying /sdcard/0 back to /sdcard and rebooting made everything work much better. Thanks.

From what I've read this is an issue with CWM. I saw frederuco mention it on the EOS 4 thread.
I had the same problem, went from build 92 to preview 145 and Titanium Backup couldn't find anything. I was pulling my hair out until I saw his post
If you use TWRP 2.3.2.3 the /0 directory issue goes away.
Also, TWRP IMO is much better than any CWM to date.
