[Q] Best GB AOSP rom - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

Hey guys, I've got a new Double shot on the way and hopefully I will be able to root it, with that said, what the best gingerbread based AOSP ROM? if there are a few tweaks for battery life etc, even better. I just recently got interested in what
I could do with the DS and have been carefully reading up on how to root, anyway
hope to chat with all of you in the future.

CyanogenMod 7.1 by Kornyone. It's amazing, and somebody's making a fix for the drain. It's worth using if you have an extended battery.

Sorry i havent posted my source yet. I got it going but there are a few compiling errors when i attempt to recompile it from my github. Ive got it flashed on my DS i also got it OC to 1.942ghz Max Stock Voltage. Its pretty stable. But i am noticing some lag here and there on default speeds (1ghz max 192mhz min). It could be any number of issues. Im going to attempt a few patches from linux site. Right now the kernel is on 2.6.35.10. I will update it to 2.6.35.14. I think i fixed the battery drain issue and foursquared works on my end. So overall im pleased.

That's amazing thanks so much
Just my spare change.

So is there any working progress on getting it on our skyrockets soon? Will we be supportes in CM9? I can't wait to finally get it lol

So what is the big deal with CM7? is it the best rom out there? I looked at there website and they dont suport the skyrocket as of yet, I guess we have to wait until CM9?
it is not the best ROM ( my op anyway ) just has a following because it is ported from phone to phone to phone as is MiUi. as other roms that devs work on are usually just for the phone they have in their pocket ( less Johnson )

I am using CM7 on my Skyrocket (with Da_G's kernel) and I think it's great. It's not flashy and super tricked out or anything, but it does remove all the stock bloatware and battery life is MUCH improved on it. I suspect if I added something like Juice Defender and tweaked that all to hell and back I could get several days on a charge. As it stands now I get a bout a full day with moderate usage without having to plug up constantly as I did before. (That is the main reason I wanted to root was so I could test out all of the claims of super battery life.) just my op, but CM7 is OK in my book.
so cm7 on the SR isn't buggy or anything because this phone is my daily driver

[Q] How good is CM9

My friend upgraded his OS to 4.0.3 and he's been reporting so bad battery life since the upgrade.
i was planning on rooting his phone and loading CM9. How is it handling?
Hi,
I also had a bad battery life with stock ICS. I didn't try CM9 a long time, but i guess it will be much better than stock. I doubled my battery life and my nexus feels more stable and faster.
..
CM9 v4.0.3 v1.1 with CM kernel seems to work great. Installed yesterday and pulled 20+ hours on a single charge before I decided to charge it before work. I am a moderate user, checking email, Facebook, browsing a bit online, and listening to Spotify when driving.
This version also seems to perform better with lack of lag on the app drawer. There are other ICS roms with more features at this point, but CM has always been a favorite for me. From what I understand on later versions there will be many of the same customization features as well.
..
Been using CM9 V1.0 for a week now and it just...works! Evenings of USB tethering in hotelrooms, lots of navigating with Google maps, lots of tinkering, etc. With deep idle enabled battery life is indeed good. (drops from 95 to 88% during a 7 hour sleep overnight) And it's stable too. Any reboots I've done were to flash further mods and backups...
Just use cm9, slap a kernel like matrix or glados on board. Boot up, install nstools. Enable deep idle and tweak as you like and you will have good battery life.
I use smartassv2 governed and sio scheduler

It's good, but you can tell its not finished yet... I was running it before, but the Music app is from Gingerbread and the screen was flickering every time I locked the screen. The battery life however, is a lot better than the stock

And it's working really good. Never got any problems with it. The v2 is coming soon ;-)
v2.1 is working really well. I still get screen flicker when opening up the browser - as if it is struggling to show a pure white screen and as mentioned above the music app is in development, along with other features.
As a daily driver it has been great and with respect to the battery life, when 'deep idle' is on, I don't notice much difference from CM7.

Which rom is going to blow my mind

I use quick wiz I love it. Best stable fast rom ever but I keep waiting for something amazing. But never happens. Is there one coming or one I missed. Most seem the same.

I would stick with what you have for a short while longer.
UCLA 2.3.6 update just hit, so lots of ROM's will go through wipe-only updates and new ROM's will be released.
SkyICS is the flashiest, coolest ROM IMO that still manages to be stable and quick.
RedSonja is a bit more blah (aside from cartoons) with the theme and tricks/gimmicks/addons, but looks like it was just rebuilt for UCLA 2.3.6 update. So if you have to flash something, that is the one I'd try right now.
I'm digging NexusM0D 3.0 after trying a couple of different ICS-Themed ROM's.

I'd give Skycoke a try. To be honest SkyICS and Coke are the only two I've used but I've developed a serious Coke habbit. It's clean, fast and stable.
I'm sticking with it until there's a true ICS release.

I really liked sky ics, and nexus mod 2.0. Tpc is really good as well but the dev moved on so no updates. If you like eye candy try one of the sky versions or nexus mod.

i am using sky ics 7.4 speed... its very flashy and has lots of graphics stuff i dont really need but its draining my battery like crazy. i can barely go 10 hours without charging.
Try using the stock skyice. I am using this version and the battery life is awesome. Best batter life I have had with any android phone.

the problem i am having is that my phone never goes to sleep...! i am trying to find what causes the wake lock...with the screen off is still draings batter like crazy...
i have my eyes on the call recorder...could that be the culprit?
Idk...its gotta be some app that you downloaded though...cant be a system app since those come on the rom and mine is fine.

I like the stability of SkyIce 7.4 Lots of eye candy. Right now using StokMod-2-UCLA3, hoping that ICS will be released soon. I Wipe about once a week just for the variety. Only Bricked the SkyRocket i727 once before the 30 days was up.
Wish I would have waited for the note.
Personally I prefer the Tmob roms. The ones here feel pretty much all the same to me too imo. There are some pretty interesting ones over there like Tuesday, Juggs and ParadoxII. Really nice themes and features too. You just need to flash our kernel or else your rotation is all outta wack. I find there is more action over there. Although the roms we do have might be less original they are pretty rock solid.(props to our devs) The only downside to the Tmob is you lose the LTE icon (still getting the speeds just no icon changing) which I couldnt care less

[Q] What is the best rom, kernel, or mod for excellent battery life?

I'm running EnergyROM right now, and honestly I'm not really impressed with the battery life. Looking for something that I can actually see improvement or better battery life.
Thanks :cyclops:
I really like the battery life on Cm9 and on trickdroid... give them a shot

Do not agree, AOSP ROMs are still full of bugs, so the devs could not concentrate on performance so much.
But if the bugs are solved I am sure sou can get a good battery life with them as well.
Without making my ROM good, trickdroid with virtuous kernel v06 is brilliant
I've used both AOSP and sense based roms (Trickdroid, Energy, etc.) and really haven't noticed too much of a difference in battery life using stock the kernel. AOSP roms are quicker than the Sense-based roms, however with Sense removed... it's just as quick.
If you throw a custom kernel on the sense-based roms, they easily win out. As Torxx said, AOSP roms are still in alpha and the devs are still working on getting a stable release. Once they get the bugs worked out... I'm sure the AOSP roms will again be just as good, if not better.
Thanks guys for your suggestions.
I'm looking more for Roms with nearly everything working so, aosp and cm are a no go for me right now.
I suppose I'll give the trickdroid with the virtuous kernel a shot.
As for miui, I will also but I'm not a BIG fan of miui.
The sense stock sense is working for me though.
I just don't like the "no exteneded power button menu" on trickdroid like EnergyROM has. I like to take screenshots just by holding the power button and pressing it.

Was going to say the same. the latest CM9 build i tried was actually quite good.. but the camera and all the little bugs (nothing too major, just annoyances really) are what drive me back to a sense base.... The camera on any AOSP based rom is DISMAL compared to what we get with sense. Even the picture quality is not the same. I honestly couldn't BELIEVE how much a difference the software made!!
I have tried all the Sense roms and every update that comes out, well... cause i have a problem, BUT i can say, that at least for me (in the US on Tmobile) the TrickDroid rom is hands down the best IMO. I can actually clock my cpu DOWN and it still flies, i get RIDICULOUS battery life (day and a half with moderate use).
I would say give that a shot OP but DEFINITELY flash the tweaks package!!! Pretty awesome options in there!!

CM9 or AOKP?

what do u use and with what kernel? and what is the best set up?
You can't have other people choosing for you! lol everyone will have their opinions and liking towards different roms. I personally go for CM9 + InstigatorX's kernels. Some people go for AOKP or Chimaira other AOSP based and use Instigator's kernels. From there you have to choose which version or which governer is to your liking, if you prefer a certain setting like performance ones or power saving ones etc...
As for CM9 and AOKP I am an avid CM9 user but have used AOKP before. AOKP has a lot of customization right out of the box, CM9 is going from the ground up so they add features slowly and is constantly update almost once a day. AOKP they release one update every say 10-15 days~ and occasional milestone which will have more features than fixes. I like seeing updates gradually come and look forward to them on a daily bases thats why I stuck with CM9 and I like it for its stability. I've had a few FC's on the older AOKP but those are probably gone now with the latest milestone but features and readily available tweaks, the unicorn has them all (AOKP). I would personally make a nandroid back up and test them out yourself to see if its to your liking. My preference may not be the same as yours so its each to their own. :good:
Thanks for the reply bro, just wondering what the peeps on here were using, I think I'm going to stick with cm9, I really dig it, but I was wondering what kernel should I add, its a big mess with a bunch of releases on that forum lol

More 'features' in 4.0. But it may bootloop you. If you're ok with dealing with that then 4.0. I myself am trying to decide and I don't want to deal with bootloops so I just, right this second, decided to go with 2.2.1

I would go with 4.0. I was having trouble with my phone looping when I put on UCLF6 modem, I switched to the newest kernel and everythings been smoother. I would also say don't be afraid to try things out. Usually you will know what you like and don't like after you test a few configurations.
Just backup and keep multiple versions of the kernel in your SD so you can switch just in case it fails to boot. I'm currently using 4.0 badass underclocked to 1.1ghz when idling/light use and use smartassv2 when I play games.

I use Chimera RC2 and it is amazing with InstigatorX kernel. Had some trouble getting it to run at first but finally got it to run. As for setup, I prefer performance so I am working on getting it to stabilize with 1.7-1.8 OC. I am still testing governors and UV settings but SmartassV2 benchmarked pretty damn high compared to badass and ondemand.

In my humble opinion, CM9 tends to be a touch more stable than AOKP. But remember AOKP at its essence is CM9 with extra features thrown on, so it's bound to have the potential for a few more bugs. But both are very stable and won't give you any more issues than any other ROM really. Basically it's a question if AOKP's features are something you feel you want. I recommend spending about a week with both and then deciding.
