Heavy battery drain - General Questions and Answers

I recently flashed speed mods kernel on my galaxy note ddla5 rooted+cwm but instead of being a battery saver it became a problem. Everything is smooth and running but it drains battery like a big hole in a water bag. It drained 100% battery in just 6 hrs. Even the atock rom didnt consumed such heavy battery drain

So what's your question?

I want to prevent the battery drain and i also want to use the super awesome speedmod kernel.how?

You can become rich if you get the answer

You should try juice defender. It really saves battery, but when the processor is up, it drains battery faster.

Better battery calibration AP???

Hello I'm a looking for a great batt. Cali. For a rooted phone... Iv used some but I feel there is a better one out there what do y'all use and battle life..

I use battery calibration

May I ask what the battery calibration does for your battery life? I charge my phone until its full, go into CWM, delete my battery stats and run it till its dead = Battery Calibration. Its simply identifying the correct life of your battery to display. (mainly for people who switch roms/kernels)
For better battery life I suggest: Juice Defender (most significant difference you will see), Juice plotter (has nothing to do with battery life, just a better or more realistic time line), Auto Killer memory optimizer, Autorun manager, Android assistant (which i rarely use) & Gemini.

[Q] How can I improve battery life?

Any other apps besides Juice Defender that work? Juice defender completely slowed down my phone crashing it and doing random restarts.
Battery conservation apps generally just use the battery faster. If you want to save battery turn off networks when you dont need them and underclock.

[Q] battery calibration

can't seem to get a good battery life. Currently i have the Valhalla final and half the day, it starts lagging to the point of needing a reboot. When I reboot, my battery life drops dramatically. I'll have maybe 65% then after the reboot, I'll have 20%. I've used the app, other methods like charging when off, going into recovery and wiping the stats. All seem to have sucky results. Am I doing anything wrong?
I've noticed that when I calibrate, the first cycle is always the shortest... After a few days all is well

It seems that the battery life is always cut short and ubruptly. It's like a smooth graph then a sharp drop in life
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
did you already cycle 4 times?
In the kernel thread it's reported as a bug

Really? I'm currently running Valhalla Final and I've had excellent battery life. I unplugged it from the charger around 5 A.M. and I'm at 58% right now with mild-medium usage haha . This ROM is amazing!

[Q] Terrible battery life

Alright so my skyrocket is rooted with the faux kernel and sky ics 7.4 speed rom. My battery lasts me roughly until 6pm everyday when taken off the charger at 6am for school (obviously aren't using it during school) so that to me, is crap battery life for such a large battery capacity especially only using HSPA+ no LTE. cpu set at 1.5ghz uv -75mv, ondemand governer, screen off to 384mhz. Noticed Android System uses nearly as much battery as display, at minimum brightness.
Can anyone help me reduce this or give me any tips for better battery life?
in the pics below, i left my phone idle overnight after a 100% charge before going to bed at around 12am. woke up with the phone at 98%.
under moderate useage it will die 10%/45 minutes.

I bought a external charging kit + spare battery package that samsung sells for around $40. An external charger (equivalent to charging your phone on AC while the power is turned off) is the best charging you can give your battery. The worst type of charging is charging your battery while the phone is on connected to a computer through USB.
Of course, who wants to charge with the phone turned off? That's why you should get this package. I never worry about charging my phone. When I'm running low, I just do a quick battery swap. A seriously annoying issue with this phone becomes a non-issue.
I also make sure I try to do a deep cycle charge. I always let it drain to around 5-15% before I swap batteries.
kind if irrelevant but this might be the first phone I might not root or mess with for a while 2nd day of use.stock everything and i'm running on 1 day and like 6+ hours on battery idk if that's the born or not but i'm not on lte either just thought I would share this lol

I have a JuiceDefender profile that might be able to help you, send me a message. Also check my thread on the battery thing and see if it works for you.
I'd say that 12 hrs is pretty normal provided you don't shut down radios.

Try mhx's new rom 2.6, by far best on battery life. Seeing 16-26 hours based on people reviews...

My battery is also terrible i'm using an extended battery and now i can make 16hours of average usage

Stock kernel sux for on screen time. Use a custom kernel and undervolt. I was getting 8 hours on stock, k or I'm getting about 13 with heavy usage, so trust me when I say u don't need to flash a new rom, but a kernel is a must. Strongly recommend sky-kernel 009m by faux

I think I read somewhere that faux's kernels don't support Wifi tethering. Is this still true? Do other custom kernels have this problem?
I flashed the Paradox rom on the T989 forums with Faux's Skyrocket kernel and I didn't download System Tuner with this ROM (Just kept it the way it was) and it has zero lag and from 6 am to 2am the next night, I only went down to 32% so battery life is the most amazing I've had ever
I had a similar problem on my old captivate. I found a rogue app that was using a ton of battery. Like 74% of my battery. Bat stats said it was Android OS using it. Delete some of the recent apps you may have installed b4 you noticed the bad battery life. I am on SkyICS 7.4 my battery life is pretty good. The rogue app that I found was a game Pirates from Disney.

I put up a thread with JuiceDefender profile for all. Check it out and let me know how it works.

12 hours isn't too bad for a Skyrocket.
On my phone, I'm rooted, running SkyIce ROM with Faux Kernel. My usage is as follows:
Display-64%
Android System-6%
Android OS-5%
Cell Standby-2%
I average around 10 hours of heavy (constant) use, and about 16 hours with normal use. I'm quite satisfied with the Skyrockets battery life. I've only had the phone for 10 days, so the battery is still settling in. It's much better than the battery life on the SGS II, which got around 8-11 hours.

Battery

How much battery do you guys usually get? Recently I've noticed a large drainage of battery and I know phone isn't too good with battery but even this doesn't seem normal. Some of my apps use 1-2% of battery per minute! Is this normal or not?
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
Oh and my battery never gets to 100%, the phone will tell me it has reached 100% but as soon as I unplug it, the battery is usually at 92-95%, also I use Juice Defender and it seems to help but not much..

generally my phone will last all day, but that is only when i rarely use it. when im using it a lot, for example if im playing games and listening to music, it lasts about half a day. but it all depends on how you use it. if you are using a lot of 3D apps, your battery will drain quickly
Mine lasts all day. I listen to local music and have push email hitting me most of the day. I might have to charge it at night if I use it a lot and I am up past midnight.

I think the Blaze battery is one of the best I've seen. I use my phone lots from 8am till 23:00 and it gets down to about 5%.
That's on Dark Knight ROM.

Odd ive got over a day on my battery with over 4 hours display time on my blaze with erikkm's darkknight rom with moderate use Lithium ion batteries have a memory and when you fully kill the battery it reduces its memory slightly, always always try to charge your phone before 30-20% and dont unplug your phone while its charging that can effect the battery memory as well.
