all things related to Da-pharoah's rom's and other G2X tweaks / fixes / add-ons
This is the place where we ease the burden on da-pharoah and utilize open source for its' intended purpose...to help one another for FREE! Kinda like kickin apple, windows, etc. directly in the balls. Please ask your questions regarding issues here. If we can not figure it out, they will be forwarded to the master. While this is an open thread there are a few rules:
1.) Stop what you are doing and go thank da-pharoah...we'll wait.....
2.) READ!!!!! and when you think you've read enough....READ some more!
3.) No complaining about tweaks the DEV built into the ROM. More than likely it is just eye candy which is easily removed. Personally, most enjoy the eye candy and is what separates DEV's from each other. Remember, they do this for us for free and could easily dev their rom as they like it and share it with no one. If you do not like something, o.k. ill say it i.e. flames, just read up on how to change it.
4.) Do not mention how much you love some other rom and are going back....just go back. At this point we already know you work for LG.
5.) For specific issue's regarding rom's daily driver performance or if you find something that has helped, please submit via xda PM to myself or Pharoah so we can keep the thread clean and reader friendly. If you like certain themes, apps, apps that created an issue, etc. you can post here with screen shots. Let's open it up a bit but stay on task.
For the noobies, not a bad word we were all there too, please seek-out other threads for CWM / rooting issues. These have been addressed by some great dev's on here. Give them their due and seek-out the answers on their threads; thanking them appropriately.
Here we go........
HELPFUL HINTS:
1.) DO NOT use CWM mount/storage to load zip files onto your SD. There has been a known issue with CWM corrupting the files during transfer. Use a stick/adapter and load directly from PC.
2.) Ensure you have at least 80% battery left
3.) DO NOT touch the phone for AT LEAST for ten minutes after first boot. Allow the ROM to move in before changing the furniture.
4.) Complete several on/off cycles BEFORE you report an issue.
5.) Reboot at least once daily so that things can get moved back to their proper spots after the party. This will extend your honeymoon phase.....
6.) UPDATE your apps when installing an updated rom!!!!! Apps are one of the biggest causes of issue's with new roms as the app dev's struggle to keep-up with the master. Worst case you have to uninstall and re-install some apps.
7.) Open MAPS/GPS outside for the first time....it works!!!!!!
8.) SEEK your answer first...i.e. slow data - check your settings, is the proper one checked, cycle through them all to see if it repairs itself, etc.
9.) When in doubt wipe it out, fix the permissions and reboot
10.) Ensure you have updated super user (super user update fixer - tx Thibor) and checked unknown sources under applications.
11.) Load the correct gapps...directly after rom and before first boot.
12.) If you get random data loss or are connected to data but an app or net says you are not toggle between airplane mode and norm a couple times to fix it. If this does not fix the issue, do a few data cycles (2g-3g and vice versa, etc.). If these do not work or you have worse reception/data with new rom, d/l getRIL from the market and follow the instructions.
13.) If you have done it all and first boot isn't running right...do it over but skip Google load on first run. Follow through everything else, let sit, reboot then load. If you are still having issue's then, and only then, should you be asking for help.
14.) If all resources are exhausted and you are standing on a ledge....ask away but please, please include what you have done to your phone after ruining its' Virginesque state. i.e. ov'd, uc'd, donkey punched, v6'd, dropped in the toilet, changed kernels, etc. We use this info to compare with other known issues or to try and replicate your exception/process failure while "seeing" what the source of the issue is.
***These are just SUGGESTIONS - don't be the one moron who asks why it is so or that you've never done these and your phone could beat up my phone, etc. If you use them great, if you do not great, if you lit yourself on fire great........etc., etc.

HellFire Phoenix (CM7) Rom stuff/mods/updates:
So since this seems to be turning into the all in one thread, ill go ahead and post the lil 'updates' that I did for HFP as well as the collection of such based in the threads of HFP & HFS.
I have changed the pattern lock screen to red instead of the green. If you use it cool, if not no worries. I thought I'd share because I know alot of people who use the pattern lock screen and I think the red flows better then the green and I also changed the PB text to HFP in the notifications bar. Here is the link in that thread. Or just d/l the attachment and flash via CWM. Always make a nandroid backup just in case however!
I have also attached the file for the livewallpapers.apk to show the new update for HFP. It originally had the PB images but I changed it to a more HF theme, kinda. All you have to do with this is use root explorer (or similar root file explorer) and copy/paste this into the /system/app location. Make sure that you make your system RW and then before pasting rename the original to livewallpaper.apk.bak, just in case. now once its pasted into that location long press on it to make sure the permissions are correct they should look like a backwards '7' or like this:
x x 0
x 0 0
x 0 0
Then reboot and enjoy!
More for HFP. Also these are all flashable via CWM unless otherwise noted.:
Here is the Blueflames Mod done by MWBehr.
Here is the Red Flames Mod for HFP.
Here is an another framework-res.apk mod for ICS animations for HFP done by IRASadPanda but it also seems like it may be a little bit of a battery drainer too.
Here is a mod by Taine0 that is a Status bar/notification mod that centers the clock and icon switch - CM7/gingerbread - update
Here are some links for the all the gapps updates for both CM7 and CM9 or try here too or here as well <- Neither of these are not themed by Hell, btw.. and last but not least you could just download this app from the market (thanks for pointing this out kesara) and go that route, its called Goo-inside.me beta
Here is a MOD to get better sounding audio. Its the ported Beats Audio by Dre for ALL GB roms.
HellFire Sandwhich (CM9) Rom stuff/mods/updates:
These are also all flashable via CWM unless otherwise noted.:

Here is a alternative launcher to Trebuchet Launcher thats only for Android 4+, ref'd by benyben123 and created by dennisxl. its called Apex Launcher Beta.
Attached is an updated music.apk I found. Its the MIUI music app. Only drawback is doesnt look like it has a widget for the music app for some reason.. ill look into getting a fix for that. It now shows the music on the phone and SD card. But I dont believe it has the widget.. so temp fix for now. Just replace with root explorer using the copy/paste method (make sure to mount system as RW) and make sure permissions are the backwards 7 or like this:
x x 0
x 0 0
x 0 0
then reboot and all is great!!
Mods/Eye candy for both HFP & HFS
These are also all flashable via CWM unless otherwise noted.:
Here is the slightly updated version of the HF boot animation LWP done by jblah. Still is the first one with the all black background. I figured since he does pimp work might as well showcase everything, plus the new one is completely different so I really like this one for a LWP versus the actually new boot ani for the LWP. So really all I did was just update the logo and change some text in the settings.xml but just install and good to go. Btw its got a different name so just uninstall the other one (if you have that one installed) and you'll be good to go. also if for some reason after you select it and if for some reason you get a fc, just reboot and should be all good... it is attached below btw, its titled 'HFLiveWall12.apk'
2/27/12 updated to show right icon and smaller image size.
3/07/12 updated icon again and text in settings.xml.
Also some the sigs I have done so far.. feel free to use.

I tried moving to HFS from SK3 I used g2x scrubber 3 times and manually cleaned the system caches and dalvik, but when I booted up the rom it still had my old wallpaper and some settings from before. Is that normal?

Restored SMS/MMS messages / no 4G
Question for the gurus- hopefully someone can help.
Has anyone figured out how to get mobile data to work after restoring SMS/MMS messages?
I read in the development section that this mobile data problem was connected with restoring the SMS/MMS messages via TB. I restored my text messages when I first installed HFS 1.1, and haven't been able to establish my 4G connection ever since. (It's been a week since I've been trying to figure this out, and I've been relying solely on Wifi for data connections- goo when at home, bad while away.)
I went as far as to install the new 1.2 version after wiping my cache and dalvik, to no avail.
The other suggested steps like rebooting, fixing permissions, and toggling Airplane Mode have already been tried, and the result remains unchanged.
Is there any way that the Mobile data can be restored, outside of having to wipe everything and reflash, and not have access to my archive of text messages?
Would it be possible for the necessary components to be reinstalled that would resolve the 4G problem while I retain my messages that I've restored from TB?

Try using mybackup to restore sms/mms instead of TB. Just make sure to reboot after your restore.. I've had success there and it has not affected my data connection....
Thanks for the quick response!

OK, I will check it out and follow your suggestion to the letter. Thanks, Pharoah.
I already have SMS Backup+ that backs up my messages to my Gmail account. That's cool and I can use that to restore my messages, but I'd prefer a local SMS/MMS backup/restore solution. That way I wouldn't have to wait hours for the messages to download and restore like I usually have to do with SMS Backup+. (that is the one step I dread when flashing a new ROM- arghhh...)
Just when I thought that I finally found an effective workaround to that tedious process, this happens.
In the meantime, I guess I can't avoid having to wipe everything and reflash, right? If that's my only option, then that's what I'll have to do. I love this ROM and the multitude of features it has (Props to Hell and the whole team that keeps the Hellfire ROM sharps and updates coming. Having on point devs is truly a blessing!)
However, after I get TB back online, I'll back up the system data so I can restore the fresh version if the situation comes up again somehow.
Right on sounds good, but just to be clear do a backup in cwm for your system and TB for your personal apps plus app data...

For my new ROM please go HERE
Installation instructions & other useful information
To install on your Evo:
1. Copy OmegaEVO_v1.0_by_Ricsim78.zip to the root of your SD card.
2. Shut off your phone and boot into recovery.
3. Do a full wipe (Data, cache, Dalvik, SD Ext.) Do it twice to be sure if you want to!
4. Install OmegaEVO_v1.0_by_Ricsim78.zip. It should take a few minutes to install.
5. Reboot the phone. It should take a long time to start up the first time. Please be patient!
6. If all goes well, enjoy your new ROM!
7. If not, start over from step 2 after pulling your battery.
To install a custom kernel: Let the ROM load up first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the custom kernel and reboot.
To install a theme: Let the ROM load up first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the theme and reboot.
How to backup and restore using Titanium backup Here is the method I use to backup my phone information before I wipe and install a new ROM
I backup my entire phone with a batch "Backup all user apps + system data"
Wipe and install the new ROM,
I open Titanium Backup (TB) and give it super user rights.
I hit "Updates?" in TB and make sure I am running the latest.
I hit "Problems?" in TB and make sure I am using Busybox 1.60
Hit menu and select batch
Select "Backup all new apps + newer versions of apps", if any.
Select "Restore missing apps with data"
Go over the list and make sure you are restoring only what you want
Hit run batch operation
After it completes, go back into TB and backup restore.
Restore contacts twice
Restore MMS twice
Restore Mail twice
If any of the 3 above do not take, do it again
Restart your phone
Verify mail, MMS, and contacts restored. If not, restore again.
Why Amon RA and not Clockwork recovery?
Clockwork does not wipe the Dalvik properly (if at all). I personally have had nothing but problems with both Clockwork and ROM manager
I have said countless times that if you use either of the above, it is at your own risk. Install Amon RA recovery and I bet any wiping/installing problems will go away.
If you already are using ROM manager, pick the option to install a custom recovery, choose Amon RA 1.8. If that option is greyed out, reinstall the latest Clockwork then install RA.
Note: Do not do a fix permissions with anything unless you need to, you can screw stuff up that way.
Trust me, the new ROM is devoid of problems (I have never tested a ROM this much before releasing it). If you experience any, it is either something you are doing wrong or incomplete wipes thanks to your recovery not doing it's job properly.
What is the proper method to install the ROM and other things (kernels, themes, and mods, etc.)
Lets say you want to add a kernel, a theme, and then a clock modification.
Nandroid first!
ROM: Wipe data, cache, Dalvik (twice), SD:EXT.
Install the ROM.
Let the ROM load up the first time.
Sign into your Google account
Let it sync
When the sync icon goes away, reboot into recovery.
In recovery, wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the theme
Reboot
Let it load all the way up again.
Reboot into recovery
In recovery, wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the kernel
Reboot
Let it load all the way up again.
Reboot into recovery
Wipe the cache and Dalvik (twice)
Install the clock MOD
Reboot
This is my method and works every time without issue. Obviously, to install another item, you would repeat the process.
Hope this both helps and clarifies.
Which kernels work with this ROM?
Any that are designed for a Sense ROM. This includes:
Netarchy's
Kingclick's
Hero Over's
Ziggy's
HTC's
Which kernel do you recommend to use?
I cannot recommend a kernel for you because each EVO reacts different. The best for my phone can be the worse for yours.
You have to try the different ones available and pick the one that works best for you. What I do is start with their latest and work your way down until you find one that works well. Then stick with it.
This also goes for overclocking, SetCPU settings, etc.
Which themes work with this ROM?
Themes make your phone look nice but can also add problems to an otherwise smooth running ROM. You can use any theme you wish, but Nandroid first and if anything is broken, please do not blame the ROM as it is the theme that added the problem.
This includes my older modded themes and any theme made for 3.29 and 3.30 OTA updates They may work or they may work but break things.
Using my theme avoids this problem. It matches with my ROM perfectly and breaks nothing. Also, my theme is optimized for maximum speed and reduces the overhead of a theme (most themes are not optimized and add a bunch of stuff which increases system overhead, reduces battery life and speed a bit). As an added perk, it is a small download.
Hey, what gives? How come this ROM is saying it is 3.30.651.2 when I thought it was the 3.30.651.3 OTA?
3.30.651.3 is NOT a full ROM, it is a kernel and a few other minor changes. This is why the OTA is 7 MB or less instead of 160+ MB like a ROM usually is.
There is no issue, this is the 3.30.651.3 update. Hence the HTC # 17 kernel. Notice the screenshot in the first post also says that mine has 3.30.651.2? That is because basically this is a bandaid for a recently released OTA. That is why the number went up in the last decimal place. A major update would be like 3.31.XXX.X
sounds good, any screenies?
Screenshots available soon. 10 char

Well, without recooking it or using a theme (which would take out my wallpapers) no. Let me see if I can come up with a better solution. If not I will re-cook it with a different battery icon.

That was how this ROM was born, I liked almost all of the ones on the board, but none had the ringtones, notifications, or wallpapers I wanted.
Problem solved! Glad to see it is working for everyone as well. I had no problems with this ROM, think it helps that it is based off the OTA and not a custom ROM.
I will keep this ROM updated. Future plans is to come up with a Sense removed, AOSP element version and add more customizations. I also need to update some of the apps (TB, to name one). I kept some of the stock Sprint stuff in just so no one had problems updating the Voicemail or other Sprint apps left in.
Please rate the thread and let me know if there is anything I should include, change, etc. etc.

Sounds good man, hehe. Please let me know what you think and I hope you like this ROM.
I begin work on the next version of Azrael today, expect version 2.1 out soon, By Wednesday I should have it tested out and ready to go.
Known changes I am going to be making:
-all apps updated
-battery indicator changed to Smooth battery with percentage (far more useful than the one Azrael 2.0 is cooked with and so far the only complain heard about this ROM) *knock on wood*
-Another custom wallpaper or 3 thrown in for good measure
Whatever changes I make, I will of course note them in the release notes.
I also want to get some more theme options available, maybe modify some themes so they do not take out my custom wallpapers. That way you can make this ROM more how you want it to be as well.
I really hope everyone who tries this likes it, I know I am up there with some really good ROM makers here that have far more reputation, but so far everything has been positive and I hope that at least a few people find my work useful.
Lastly, I am glad to offer another ROM option and give back to a community that has given me much.

Notes:
IMPORTANT: Although all of my scripts check for and handle appropriatly a2sd and other apps2sd utilities it is highly recomended that you move your apps back to the /data/app folder and remove or disable any a2sd utilities prior to flashing this ROM, once flashed you can reset all of your a2sd settings accordingly. It is also recomend that you leave your cache and dalvik cache alone as moving these can cause backup and restore to fail if there is insuffiecient space.
Enjoy, this is fast stable and very clean, I have even included some of my favorite backgrounds which can be found under "Menu - More - Wallpaper". And as always I am the only DEV (To my knowledge) that includes an antivirus app in my ROM and handles backups and restores of all user level apps (/data/app and /data/app-private) during the flash sequence. No matter what style or flavor of rom you currently have there is no need to wipe, my updater-script handles everything for you. I do still recomend a full nand backup first just for safety sake.
Thanks:
evanbigfan - for pointing out a flaw in my scripts
J074 - for all the testing (and the humor) LOL
existz - for the kernel
google - for android
cyanogenmod - for the stable base
and all of the devs that provided help with the backup and restore issues.

Nice. Really good rom. Thanks.
Thanks for your work...I tried it, but had to nand back. I followed instructions & everything went great until I tried to use Titantium Backup to add back a few apps it failed to install ...then it started restarting.
The apps were fancy Widgets & pro Widgets.
Gonna reflash when I stop for the night.
Thanks for all you do though....I'm still a rookie this.

without restoring the apps from titanium backup did all your other apps work as expected? when you are restoring your apps from TB are you choosing data as well? if your previous ROM was a sense rom this could be the cause of the problem. try restoring without data and then setup the apps again from scratch. let me know if that helps.
Looking good.

Previous rom was Ninja (aosp) .
It auto installed all but 6 previously installed apps...I tried twice today.
I think my problem lies with a auto update of superuser. It auto updated twice...I skipped all setup accounts until dead last in case something was triggering it...no dice, it still did it. Tried clearing data on superuser, but it was greyed-out because there wasn't any data as of yet.
Also, I always restore apps...never data.
I dunno what I'm doing wrong...never had an issue like this.
Maybe superuser updating?
Edit: forgot to mention that on the second time round....I also tried to use the market to re-install my missing apps...and the same thing happened (phone restarts)
I'm gonna try it again and reinstall nothing & I'll report back

AHA!! A brand-new ROM - lots of questions!!
As a confirmed "flash-junkie" on my older Aria, I now have a 2-month old Inspire, and have already tried SO MANY ROMS I have lost count I really need to stop having it "out of commission" all the time because I'm trying something new!!! So -- I am looking for a Gingerbread ROM - definitely "no-sense" or very minimal Sense! (I use 3rd party apps for almost everything that Sense does and it takes so much space and time to load and run it all, or to delete so much every time I update a Sense ROM...
I have tons!!! of apps, and have been using CM7 nightlies - hoping for just the "right one" but I have not been completely satisfied for one reason or another... (Wi-Fi, GPS, ADW launcher so slow, lack of A2sd/EXT4 support, etc...)
What I want: I want to keep my most-used apps "internal" to load faster, and most of my "other" stuff, such as games, "testing" apps, reference library apps, etc. on a separate partition. I would prefer S2E/Link2SD type EXT-4 for the speed and "wipability..." I have used the S2E app, but don't like to move everything, I have tried Link2SD without much success, so I have been pretty much using standard A2SD, which is a pain...
So... what options does your ROM have for something like that? And... what setup do you recommend prior to flashing?? (i.e. pre-set EXT4 secondary partition?)
And... Is data/GPS/Wi-Fi etc. pretty stable without all the "fixes" to apply each update? I'm getting tired of editing build.prop, gps.conf, kernel flashing, etc. on this phone - I'd like to leave all that to my old phone and have my Inspire nice and set for pretty much my daily user -- if an OCD flash junkie can actually do that, anyhow - he he he
OK - I realize this was a very long post, but if you don't think your new ROM is my best choice, I'm open to other ideas from anyone!!!
Thanks!

I'm trying to remember what ver of SU is in the ROM i think it should be 3.0.2 (it was current as of the time i built the rom) I'm not convinced that that could be the issue. I dont use titanium backup as i just start from scratch, i dont much care about data just the apps so i havent tested anything with titanium backup. I'm curious what 6 apps don't install? is it the same 6 everytime? anything special about them? was your previous ROM an EXT3 or EXT4 ROM? are you using any apps2sd utils or have your sdcard partitioned? again thats one i don't use so havent tested for. (sorry if i tested for every possible scenario I'd never get anything done).
I'll try TB tonight and see what happens.

Well I'm probably the worst Flash junkie around I frequently run with broken ROMS just trying to test and build. since I only have one phone that becomes a real pain at times.
so to try to answer your questions. I don't use any apps2sd utils nor do i partion my sdcard nor move any apps to the sdcard and with this rom having on average around 400mb free I havent had much of a need to do so. that being said it does support extended partitions on the sdcard (up to 512mb) you can use any of the third party apps2sd utils just fine as well.
Data/GPS/WiFi including WiFi hotspot and tethering all work flawlessly in my opinion. stability has always been one of my biggest concerns that's why I started building ROMs so I could be the one in control of any stability issues that arose. there should be absolutly no need to edit the build.prop for anything that I'm aware of it is tweaked to provide the best results for the ROM.
Recomendations for prior to flashing. NAND NAND NAND Backups are your friend...
My updater-script is unique in that I am to my knowledge the only one who handles app backups and restores as well as cleanup and wiping through the script so in all reality you can download my ROM make a backup of your current ROM and then Flash mine with no concern of what style of ROM you came from.
I hope that helps answer some of your questions. in regards to whether or not i think this is the right one for you? that is a determination that only you can make. personally this has been my daily driver for nearly a week without issues and im not one for AOSP roms per say..
anyone having this problem?
when i try to install apps i have purchased, i try to install them after i downloaded them but when it trys to install my phone fast reboots, ig u could say lol, is this happening to anyone else.. cause i cant install any apps on my phone
Tried again ....this time I did not try to reinstall any apps via TIB...used market. Data shut off and phone rebooted with ANY app from the market.
It would download BUT then reboot before it finished installing.
Even tried apps at random...lol
Just to be sure it wasn't particular apps.
Tried clearing market data and also reformatted SD card ext4.
Lead me in the right direction if you can ...I'd really like to get this one running. I'm sure you put alot of time in on it & I think its gonna be a good one.

what rom did you come from? was it ext3 or ext4? sense or AOSP? and what apps are you trying to install, directly from market or from apk's downloaded to your sdcard? if previously downloaded can you adb them to your data/app folder?
both, and a miui rom the the one previous to the latest

Geek For Me is proud to present:
Fresh Shift 4.1.1
for your Sprint CDMA Evo Shift!
Included V6 SuperCharger in /system/xbin/V6_SuperCharger_u8.sh for those who want to use it.
Thanks to zeppelinrox for this. I am NOT the dev and won’t be supporting any questions with this script as it’s extensive. Please visit the original thread if you have any.
Added Fresh Updater (v1.4.0)
This will allow you to get fresh rom updates and mods straight from fresh updater
Check http://link.geekfor.me/updater for help on using it
Added some helpful text prompts to hopefully alleviate questions from when people don’t read the FAQ.
Removed some deprecated options to clean up the menus
NOTE: While you can still use fresh updater to download any updates/mods and then flash manually, it will only reboot and flash automatically if you’re using TWRP recovery. It will NOT work with clockwordmod to flash automatically.
Downgraded busybox to 1.18.2 to resolve some scripting issues
Updated DarkTremor apps2sd to 2.7.5.2-1
NOTE: DarkTremor apps2sd is not working on the Shift. If you are getting issues with FC’s or your phone rebooting when you install apps then run: adb shell a2sd remove
I’m looking in to this but I’ll most likely be removing it entirely as the dev for DT no longer supports it.
UPDATE: Spoke to the DT dev who wasn’t sure why it would be doing that however said that the project is abandoned and he won’t be looking in to fixing it. So I will be removing apps2sd in future versions. If you are getting the reboot issue when trying to install apps then you MUST remove it: adb shell a2sd remove
Updated Vending/Market to 3.3.12
Updated SuperUser to 3.0.7
Not every mod in this rom is outlined here if it was done in a previous version. Check the full change log here: http://link.geekfor.me/shiftchangelog

Why am I getting FC’s on gmail/market/voice search/whatever?
FC’s can be a common issue when /system/app contains an app that you already have on /data/app. So if you get a FC on gmail, the market, or something similar, then it can generally be fixed 99.99% of the time by either wiping that particular apps data (Settings < Manage Applications < All < YOUR APP < Clear Data), or going in and uninstalling it which will actually force it to use the one /system/app.
Or, of course, can be fixed 100% of the time by doing a full data wipe before installing! I have verified this rom as 100% FC free (at boot at least) so if you have issues, it’s your particular setup.
Why do I get invalid signature when flashing?
This zip is signed the same as I’ve signed every other rom for the last 2.5 years but was getting invalid signature from TWRC 1.1.1. So make sure signature checking is disabled. You can compare the md5 below to make sure your download is good though.
Is this Ice Cream Sandwich? It says it’s version 4.x?
No. This is version 4.x of Fresh Rom. The Android version is always in my change log and unless it’s tagged as a dev rom, will always be the newest official OTA, or possibly a beta tag for a leaked OTA.
How do I setup V6 SuperCharger?

Road map for next version:
All changes included in newest version
Thanks flipz for pushing this out. I have been running it since you let the donors have first crack at it. Ran really smooth with stock kernel, but as I like to play and try things I flashed dodgejcr's ext4 conversion and his 1.6 sense kernel . Things is pretty snappy only runnin it at 900mhz,smartass and BFQ.If there are any issues will report them, also is there and Odex version in the works? Thx for giving us shifters another option.

I'd be interested in knowing if you have any issues flashing roms once you do the ext4 conversion? The updater-script mounts it as ext3.
He has a zip that you flash to convert back to ext 3 then I flash any rom the mounts as ext 3 then flash the rom, then back the rom up flash the ext4 zip, restore the nand the flash the ext4 kernel an bam you have fresh shift runnin ext4.
Edit: This may explain it better than I can Fresh

Yeah FDX's method would work but for some reason, even while the filesystem is ext4, CWM and TWRP can still mount it as ext3 for the ROM flash. I havent heard of any problems with it just yet. As a suggestion, it would be awesome to have a sort of 'universal mounting' going on in the updater script to prevent any bugs that MAY occur.
Like I posted in my thread:
Code:
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
would use busybox to mount the /system partition regardless of FS type. Hope this helps you. If you need any additional help, let me know. Ill be happy to help in anyway I can.

They are in his/her original post.
@ dodger, flipz and fdx after alot of reading it seems that you can use the call for ext3 to mount both ext3 and 4 without issues.
so all our updater-scripts sound work without issues
Nice to see you around flipz
when i downloaded app it would reboot

I just tried installing an app and it rebooted as well. It doesn't reboot until it hits the "installing" part after the download. I tried it with fastboot on and off and still the same thing.
I'll try wiping and re-flashing everything again and see if that makes a difference.

Wi-Fi is not working:
Make sure you flashed the right boot.img with fastboot
if your Wi-Fi Channel is higher than 10, try a lower one
try changing your wifi country code in Settings / Wifi / Menu / Advance to e.g. Europe or US
App-Switch is no longer "Menu" by default:
go to Settings - System - Hardware keys
configure it like you want
Do I need to flash the boot.img manually in fastboot?:
No, if you're using TWRP and are on a Hboot-version lower than 1.13
Yes, if you're using any other recovery (like CWM)
Yes, if you're using TWRP and your ville has the Hboot-version 1.13 or higher
Phone doesn't boot beyond the CM-Bootanimation:
download the boot.img for the build you're running here, or extract it from the .zip you flashed
flash the (right!) boot.img in fastboot
if you erased/deleted cache in fastboot, go into recovery and erase it again
Notification LED's don't work:
go to Settings - Display - Notification Light - Use custom values
Set it (green/red) for every app just like you want it to be
App XY doens't work:
try clearing cache or/and data
try fixing permissions
Massive battery drain & device is getting hot: (should not happen anymore)
enable 2G only
update to the latest radio, fix permissions and clear the caches
try a simple reboot
turn off Google Now & location history (you will still get the answercards when using voice search)
reboot everytime after you are using camera or gallery
turn off/disconnect GPS Services, reboot & keep them unconnected/turned off (thanks to djsubtronic)
[advanced: deactivate gallery & try e.g. Quickpic & ICS Camera (don't forget to reboot after using camera)]
turn off WiFi if you don't need it and you're not connected
adjust the screen-off time & the brightness
recalibrate battery
"SIM Network Unlock PIN" gets asked for: (should not happen anymore)
just hit "Dismiss"
only a handful of ringtones are shown: (should not happen anymore)
download the app zedge
download & set the ringtones you like just as you like
Sound/Music/whatever only plays through the speakers: (should not happen anymore)
unplug your headphones & replug them
download the widget Wired Headphone/Headset Fix
place it on your homescreen & use it

hey folks,
I decided (& asked for xkonnis permission) to open a new thread where we can talk about the new features and things that (don't) work yet to keep the original CM10 DEVELOPMENT Thread clean!
Nightlies can be found here:
http://get.cm/?device=ville
[watch out that you DON'T FLASH CM9 OVER CM10!]
please note that atm these builds (& the nightlies!) are not stable, & you should only flash this if you are REALLY comfortable with it.
You should also be experienced in flashing & fastboot, adb & other stuff.
If you aren't then better read, read & read!
Nobody is responsible if this breaks or bricks your phone other than yourself!!!

Anyone else have issues with restoring a nandroid after testing jb? I use twrp and the restore goes fine but after booting the restored rom the microphone won't work and data becomes very flaky.

did you delete everything before restoring? perhaps JB adds things that are not overwritten by an ICS backup?
Tried installing the build with today's date, and it won't boot like everyone else reported.
Going to try yesterday's build and see if there's a difference. Will post another update with the results.
---------- Post added at 11:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:36 AM ----------
Got yesterday's build to boot.
No data or other radios (of course).
Most other things seemed to work. Butter is very nice and I love that lockscreen.
The auto-re sizing widgets didn't work, that is: When you try to put a widget on a page that has some space, but not enough for the widget in it's native form, it didn't re-size automatically.
--------UPDATE--------
Installed today's build over yesterday's and wiped cache/dalvik and it boots and it looks like I have a cell signal! I'll report back shortly!
Also meant to add, I am using TWRP and did NOT flash a boot image.
Will make this a rolling update as I'm still playing around. Will try installing today's build on top of this to see if that's successful.

Oh yeah.
Here's the latest:
Able to boot.
What works for me:
SD Mount Works
Data Works
Installed Gapps package from here: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/aosp-cyanogenmod-10-cm10-rom-nexus-s-guide/
One issue I had was, after installing today's build for the first time over yesterday's, it got stuck on the "Android is upgrading..." screen. Had to go back into recovery and wipe cache/dalvik for it to behave. Same thing after installing the Gapps package. Then it booted after a few minutes (first boot might take a while.
Still playing around, will report more successes/failures in a bit.
Flashing the latest zip
Mine gets stuck on boot animation then it just freezes.
I wiped cache n dav and got to android is upgrading but then it gets stuck at 'android is starting'
Any help?
I guess I'll try yesterday's n then flash over

Try flashing, the one from the 17th first, boot up, then go back into recovery and flash the one from the 18th right over it (don't wipe anything). It should boot after that but will definitely take several minutes.
---------- Post added at 02:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:19 PM ----------
I ran this only for short while but here's what I've found:
WORKING:
Data
Gapps from here: http://www.theandroidsoul.com/aosp-c...nexus-s-guide/
Linking to Google account
GMail
SD Mount Works
NOT WORKING:
After using a bit phone started lagging, got force closes on various things
Phone does not work, can't make calls. Phone rings if you call it but freezes and phone app crashes if you try to answer.
Other issues:
1. After installing today's build for the first time over yesterday's, it got stuck on the "Android is upgrading..." screen. Had to go back into recovery and wipe cache/dalvik for it to behave. Same thing after installing the Gapps package. Then it booted after a few minutes (first boot might take a while.
2. The auto-re sizing widgets didn't work, that is: When you try to put a widget on a page that has some space, but not enough for the widget in it's native form, it didn't re-size automatically.
3. After trying to install 1 more app (Camera360 for fun)then the screen went black and wouldn't turn back on. Tried wiping caches and rebooting, but it hung on boot again.
INFO:
Also, I am using TWRP and did NOT flash a boot image.
Had to go back to ICS for now since I'll be running around this afternoon. Will keep playing with subsequent builds though. Seems like we're getting close! These devs are awesome!

Couldn't find it on CM10 but it's possible I just missed it (since I wasn't really looking for it).
BiteBlaze's ROM has it though.
Not sure if you're aware, but you can get a somewhat function versions of Google Now running on ICS (I've had to work on TrickDroid, CM9 and Liquid ICS so far) here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1749045 Voice search does not work yet, just cards, but they're pretty cool.
Holly crap!

Update: After allowing the phone to settle and updates Apps ran into quite an issue. Google Play Services crashes non-stop. Hangouts crashes when attempting to open any conversation type. Essentially 9/10 apps failed within a few minutes or immediate usage. I did all the obvious things like clear cache, reboot, clear delvik, reboot, etc. Even non-dependant apps like XDA were crashing. Its a really good start. Lollipop looks beautiful. I really cant wait for this to be a daily driver. Went back to CM11-M12.
I did back it up after it was installed so if you need any version numbers etc I can hop back into it and help you debug some things.
Just installed this. Everything regarding the install went fine. Am currently restoring apps but will keep this thread updated on how everything goes, usage, bugs, etc.
One Mini, S-OFF, Hboot 2.21, Unlocked, ATT
I flashed according to directions listed above and it installed fine.
My problem is that I couldn't make phone calls. I could receive calls but if I tried calling out, I got a "call not sent" error. I was able to get it working off and on by removing/reinserting my sim card (T-Mobile) and forcing it to register with the network.
I noticed it became more sluggish over the day and like someone else mentioned, some of the apps would either fc or android would restart completely.
It's beautiful when it's working....I'm definitely onboard once it's ready! :fingers-crossed::good:

call not sent is cm 12 based rom issue .
I should have been a bit more thorough. I use Hangouts+Google Voice and I didn't even attempt to use the native dialer.

Uh...What makes you think I didn't do a clean install? Wiped everything three times in a row. Formatted data even before I installed. Including internal storage. And my TWRP is the latest.
I understand you supposedly don't have issues, however a poster above me confirms he/she also suffered from FCs all over the place and calls not being sent.
I don't really think your post adds anything to the conversation. If you're having zero problems it would be better to inform us of how you achieved that end result rather than assuming my install wasn't clean.
This is not my first rodeo. I've been at this since the first Gnex. So when I see posts that make assumptions and don't actually add to the conversation and go against what the trending census appears to be I get a little sensitive.
You're clearly in the minority as more have reported so far of having problems with FCs and calls not sending than not.
So give us your setup. Give us the steps you took when installing to receive the same end result. Rather than making baseless assumptions and adding noise to the thread.
hello Mattplo my intention was to help, I'm not a pro . you are a little aggressive in your reply.
so the steps are :
Full wipe (Dalvik Cache, Cache, System, Factory Data Reset)
Flash Candy5.zip
wipe cache and dalvik cache.
reboot the phone
after first boot flash Gapps.
One Mini, S-OFF, Hboot 2.22, Unlocked.
here is a vid from my phone while testing hangout and xda
Sent from my One Mini using XDA Free mobile app
@malikou, I understand your intention was to help. However it was anything but helpful. Let's keep the assumptions to a low.
Your install procedure it identical for the most part as mine. However I also wiped internal storage and moved over the files via ADB and md5sum them. Obviously I did factory reset x3 and then manually wiped x3. As this is IMO the best way to do things. Its a bit anal but ice been around a long time and this method never fails to get a good wipe.
Might I remind you that this ROM worked flawlessly. Until I allowed apps to upgrade. I.e. Google Play Services, Maps, Hangouts etc.
This is when things began to fail miserably. After the updates.
I then proceeded to wipe cache(in storage) reboot to recovery, wipe dlvik wipe cache, reboot. Same end result. Apps are no stable. Calls can not be made along with the camera being really underperforming.
I'm glad you've managed to install a flawlessly working system, however others of us can't.
Did you update google play services? Maps, hangouts etc

Did you update your devices applications, including, Play Store, Play Services etc, and then try to use your phone normally? Further more are you able to make phone calls via native dialer without them failing?
You seem to have some unicorn install that others can't obtain. Or you're not exactly being genuine.
On a straight clean install this rom works perfectly. Minus the outgoing cals issue which is just a known fact/bug. However once the user updates key components like Google Play Services, The App store, etc everything goes to ****.
lolipop
Have just installed as per OP and so far so good not yet experiencing call or fc problems,I noticed that the phone was like starting with a new out of the box once the ROM was installed so I think if you don't get this you need to re do a CLEAN install.
Thanks for the work and delivering this ROM

Really....so you dint actually read the thread. You just like the last guy, jumped "du clean install makes world perfect!!111 great ROM!!!111"
Allow me to reiterate: Advaned wipe+delvik, cache, system, data, internal storage. Now rinse and repeat that twice which should equate to 3xs.
Now for added benefit I did "Format Data", twice. I then porceesed to move over Candy5 ROM with the gapps linked to directly from parents thread.
Installed all three back to back. ROM first, flash gapps, flash susperu. Then wipe delvik cache along with cache and reboot.
Now mind you, I moved all these files over ADB once I was fully formatted and then ran an md5sum against them to match. They matched flawlessly.
End result = unstable applications after updating play services and play store. These apps range from Instagram to XDA, from Maps to Hangouts. And native call dialer doesn't work.
Noe I'm sure the next post will ve some other random stoog saying " omg! ROM works so well!!!11 do Clean install perfect!!!". Or something to that affect.
But thanks anyway.

I really don't mind hopping back into Candy5 for a short time to get some stats. However I rely on double tap yo wake and I use my back button(long press=go to sleep, don't be tap back key components=recent, double tap home =menu, tap home =home, long press home =google now.
Seeing as candy5 doesn't allow me to do any of that due to no exposed installer. Until these are implemented Candy5 won't be my daily driver. But I will hop in and out of it for testing. Oh and capacitive logo button support+overclocking would be a dream come true. I'd ditch CM in a heartbeat.
