[Q] Full wipe before installing a ROM?

Hi, i were considering installing the nFinity 1.06 Gingerbread, when i see he recommends during a full wipe before installing.
Should i just do a factory reset or what?
If i'm wrong could anyone explain?
Thanks
I'm not an expert but normally you install the ROM and the you wipe data and cache.
1.Reboot into xRecovery and make a back-up of your current ROM. (You'll need a working xRecovery or else it will say Device/SD Card busy).
2.Wipe the following in xRecovery:
Factory Reset (Full wipe)
Wipe Cache Partition
Wipe Dalvik Cache
3.Go to install Custom Zip
i hope it helps
Ehm jea im kinda new to this stuff so a couple of questions:
I got an backup of my ROM so how do i reboot into xRecovery?
And will all apps be gone? cause i thought u need ROM Manager to install? (or could use)
ROM manager is too unreliable, stick with manual recovery, apps will be gone so back them up first with Titanium Backup and restore them after flashing new rom
Uhm okay got a link for a tut or something?
titanium backup can be found on the market (but its a paid app)
astro file manager (a free app) can backup your apps (although i recommend titanium backup as it allows you to backup more than just your apps)
Well never mind got my ROM installed

Clear everything on phone without touching system

Jeah. so much crap on my phone .. i want to delete everything without settings / logindata / system / ... /
( rooted and CWM installed)
thanks for helping me guys ..
GreeZ
you can use titanium backup
backup all system app info and user app + info
then boot in cwm recovery
wipe cache wipe dalvik cache
then reboot and restore from titanium backup

I would do a clean install.
-Backup user's app and data (if you want to) I use Titanium Backup but any similar app will do.
-Nandroid backup of your current ROM just in case
-Format system
-wipe data, cache and dalvik cache
-Flash ROM and Gapps
-Reboot
-Restore user's app + data
-Let Google restore any system app's data.
*If you want a totally fresh tablet you can format internal sd card (it will wipe EVERYTHING) but make sure the files you want to flash is on external micro sd card and your recovery can read from external micro sd card

I think it should be fine with that version TWRP, I'm using an older version too (I think 2.3....)
Wiping data is the same as factory reset.
I would recommend updating to TWRP 2.3.2.3 or newer. The older ones don't always work well with the multi-user file structure and you may end up with a /sdcard/0/ directory with what used to be your /sdcard/. This was fixed in 2.3.2.3.
Yeah I think that's the version I use, 2.3.2.3

[Q] KatKiss 4.3.1 #029 lost root

After flashing the newest version I no longer have root. I know this is a rooted rom is there a way to get root back without starting all over again?
I would just boot to recovery, in TWRP go to BACKUP and make a backup if what you have.
Next, go to WIPE, then ADVANCED (assuming you are on 2.4 or later)
Tick System, Cache, Davlik and wipe those three.
Then go to INSTALL and install the KatKiss ROM, then flash GAPPS. If you want FSYNC to be on (for reboot data integrity issues) flash that.
Wipe caches
Reboot
This will NOT delete any user installed apps or data.
Fixed

Hi,
This worked thanks.

Can I restore factory defaults using a custom rom?

Can I restore factory defaults using a custom rom? Can I through the settings or through TWRP tbm? Will the rom continue to work?
You can delete your apps and app data in TWRP (Wipe) or delete all user data including the emulated sdcard (Wipe -> Advanced -> Format Data). You can reinstall the full stock ROM using fastboot.
