[Q] ICS On-Screen Buttons Help? - HTC Sensation

Hi, i have been looking at tuorials for decompiling and re-compileing framework-res.apk in order to add the ics on screen buttons to my phone. I can get the framework-res.apk decompiled, i can make the required edits in the xmls, but when i go to recompile with aapt.exe or even just apktool, i get monstrous errors in the log. this may have something to do with my ADB setup, but it is very confusing to me. i would like to know if anyone would be willing to make the edit for me, as recompiling the apk is not working for me. i will email/PM the framework-res.apk to anyone who would like to do this for me, I am only 14 so i do not have all that much experience, although i am not a noob, more of a power user. (I am a flashaholic) my current ROM is TripNRaVer's CyanogenMod 9 build 8 i believe (having issues with 10) Thanks everyone

Being a "flashaholic" has nothing to do with being able to develop or make changes.
I drive a car daily, doesn't mean I can take apart an entire car and rebuild it in a day.

aapt and apktool seem to be hardcore sensitive to it's surroundings. I had to re-install Ubuntu because some conflict was screwing around with the apk rebuilding. I had tried on Windows, Mac, Mint, everything possible. After the reinstall it worked, (with a ****ton of errors of course), created some handicap file but all I needed was resources.arsc.
If you do it and a new resources.arsc is compiled then that's all you'll need, you won't have to worry about anything else

thanks for that but it was part gibberish to me, no offense intended I don't have my own computer as I am only 14 and I have been trying on my parents laptop, but I have no idea where to go from here so, is there any possibility I could email you my framework-res.apk and you could make the XML edits? I can give you a link to a tut for what I would like done if you have the time

[REQUEST] Theme team / colaboration etc?

OK, so basically im looking for a partner in crime. Im starting to fall behind on everything lately, from school to themes. And the requests just keep coming to my inbox. And currently im barely able to keep up, and soon wont be.
What im really looking for is someone with decent photoshop, etc skillz. I'm OK with cut and paste, hues, gradients, color changing etc. But images from scratch are beyond me. Knowledge of everything else(compiling apks, .9.pngs, xml editing) isnt a must. I can do those if needed, its just the images take up most the time and I could use some help.
Im looking to share all future credit with someone or more. TBD.
Currently on the todo list:
Get swype for more colors.
Finish up themeing the 3-4 apps in the works
really fine tune the images in my main theme
Add more stoke apks to the theme.
Getting my theme to more roms (a few have been tested by other people, but would like to verify myself)
Plus when The good ROMs hit the threads (sapphire team, BB, CM, etc), I want them supported quickly.
and the list goes on and on.......
Get a hold of me one way or another if your interested
I'm interested dawgg!

haha, you see the date on this thread?
And you can see all the people that jumped on board.
I can help with testing. I'm not super great at from scratch image creation. But i understand the xml's fairly well in combination with the decompiling and recompiling.
Lol yeah I see it. I am good at everything you said! Lol.

hey do you still need help?
Also looking for someone who is good at packing things into a MM theme.
I have a swiftkey theme that needs to be built into a mm.
Also once slideit is done (if the xml for key color is found) it will be easier to distribute if its in a MM.

I didnt find anything referencing android color either. If that is found we can take out where is says color=inverse or something like that and put in the hex number. I used to have to do this in pandora and the blur music apk

Recompiled libdvm.so for froyo. Testing for improved responsiveness

I recompiled the libdvm.so from the aosp. I don't know if its any better or worse I'm still checking into it, but it does vary from stock. I've got it running on my phone and have seen no problems. It doesn't use an edify script so it wont flash in cwm3, I'll work on that later. It also will not work for those using CyanogenMod, that should be optimized anyway
Just observe and report for me if you can, any bugs, glitches or problems.
This is just for testing purposes, and I'm not responsible if something retarded happens, you assume the risk.
Added a few more libs, and I'll get to the edify scripts eventually. if you want to flash one of the ones not converted just push it via adb to /system or take an existing update.zip with an edify script and replace the lib in it with the one you want.
libwebcore.so - Random app issues.
libaudio.so - Upon request. Devin on IRC flashed to CM6 seemed to work. - May cause bootloop
The stock, and recompiled ones are both here.

Post containing ones with edify scripts here.

Before someone asks "Why?" or "What will this do?"...
This libdvm.so is recompiled so it can take advantage of ARM CPUs. Install it and it may run non-native code significantly faster.
-Daryel
Thanks. Daryelv
For all the people *****ing over making their phones faster, Its amazing to me they wont actually try **** that is different, and may actually make their phone run smoother and bog down less.
this may be a noob question - do i just flash these files in recovery and it just replaces my /system/lib/libdvm.so and then if i want to revert back, just flash the stock? thanks for the hard work!
Yes chibucks.
However, if you have the new cwm3 you will have to either manually push it via adb, or use root explorer as I've not got an edify script for it yet.
I wasn't able to flash it with recovery 3.0.0.5 so I ended up pushing the libdvm.so file to /system/lib with adb. It's working fine so far. Thanks.
Could really use more than 3 testers. I hate shameless self bumps, but I would really like some feed back.

might want to ad something along the lines of "may increase speed" in the title, alot of ppl just probbly see it as "הדר מחדש את ליבדום.אז for froyo"
I will give it a shot a little later and report back
So far so good. Running it on modified stock DK28. (No rom. Just removed unused Sprint bloatware and added Hulu support, Gingerbread Keyboard, and this). I'm also on the EXT4 file system.
No freezes, crashes or FC yet. Getting the usual lag and stutter I get the first few seconds after waking the phone. It does seem a little more responsive once the phone gets going.
Im running on my rom I posted over at sdx pjree. Its similar to what you have, just in rom form. I see the choppiness just after boot, but not after wake. Ill flash back to stock and test with a less modified system.

Curious what toolchain you used to compile this. I just completed a fresh Froyo compile with the new NDK and the libdvm.so I came up with is almost 100k smaller. No idea if it runs..
I had been having issues with the Launcher app being very unresponsive when switch back to it from an app. This fix seems to have alleviated that issue. The UI seems overall more responsive. Great patch, I would love to see this integrated into the Quantum rom and others.

I dont really use benchmark software a lot, maybe 0xbench.
To install on cwm3 just extract the libdvm.so from the zip and push it to /system/lib
I dont know that benchmarks would change much, they shouldnt.
Ive got a few more to compile ill post them up in this thread.
all I did to compile this was use aosp guide to install the froyo source pulled the vendor files from the phone and used the device files noob had in the cm6 github.

[Q] Sensation Tablet UI

SO, I was wondering if it was possible to get the tablet UI working on the HTC sensation. I know there's a mod for it here but I see no updates. What I've discovered so far is that the Sensation need to drop below a density of 140 for the UI to kick in, but for that to work, we need to edit the services.jar of cm9 to make it work. If anyone is good at smali and was willing to take a look into it, let me know, and I'll share with you the information I've gathered.
Specifically a good, smali dev.

Question + Cool Hint

I finally got my computer working again, so I have some questions regarding rom cooking. Would I need permission to use ayOteddy's "Stock [email protected] Deo Rooted" as a base for my roms. And If I really wanna get into this, some recommendations for ideas even if I dont use them?
ALSO. Its well known that we do not really have a soft lanscape keyboard, no matter what keyboard used, right? Well that's wrong. Its been awhile since Ive used this keyboard, I used it on my old Optimus T actually, however, the keyboard known as "Hacker's Keyboard" has an option to always view the landscape keyboard even if a hardware keyboard input is present. Just thought you all would like to know that I figure my little discovery could be useful to you all ^_^ Welcome.
*** One more thing, does anyone know ways I can change the settings options and navigation + links? Like, the Theme Settings space for example?

I actually used KJ2 for TigerFusion without permission. I figured since ay0teddy retired long ago, he would not reply to my PM. I think as long as you give credit to him it should be fine.
I recommend using ASimmons Theme Injector if you want to port over a theme. Just remember that the Sidekick 4G uses hdpi. What I did for Froyo Iced Up was just change one letter in the apk.....the m in mdpi to h. If you don't do this, the result will be a brick. I had to use Odin to flash back to stock....lol.
And remember that the Bali kernel with keylogger removed will only work on KJ2. You can actually extract the zip and copy the contents from the kernel_flasher folder right into the update folder of your kitchen project.
Thanks for the keyboard app recommendation. I'll definitely try it out! Good luck with the rom cooking. :good:

Re: Thanks RicAndroid I was actually gonna theme the rom from each file individually though ^_^ and I could also use some help with another thing. How do I get the extended power menu? 0.0
Hats off to ayoteddy, sduvick, and krylon for the work they did. When all is said and done, those are really the people that pushed things forward and got the Sidekick 4g a couple useful 3rd party kernels.
As I recall, ayoteddy shared his stock deodexed rom so other people could have some fun cooking up their own custom. So, just credit him and move on. I don't think he'll be upset at all.
Make sure to also credit krylon and sduvick in anything you do. If you dig back into the forum, you'll see that they worked together.

That was way tricky. You need to add three pngs to the drawable-hdpi folder after you decompile the framework-res.apk.... reboot, reboot_ recovery and download. Then edit the strings.xml folder.... after that, it gets pretty hairy. I'll send you a pm with all the steps needed to configure the android.policy.jar file.
Oh, and thanks for the advice orange808!

Dude...I just thought of something. Why don't you make a custom Key Lime Pie theme? Just use the various images found on the net for inspiration....maybe you can make a kind of CM theme based on yellow and green...just a thought!
As for TouchWiz....ugh...I personally hate it. Why not go with Go Launcher? It is a bit on the hefty side but is very theme-able!

That is a great idea not gonna draw conclusions yet, but the whole green color seems to look nice on the SK. And I used to love Go Launcher, but it became so chock-ful of ads and weird buying with credits and just....it became a bit too much I think? I might poke around and try to find an older version of ADW and just break the market link so it doesnt upgrade to the new one. Which by the way, I wanted to suggest in case Holo Launcher starts to get old for you, it looks alot like the ICS update, spare the icons. But with a theme installed its gotta be the best ICS launcher I've seen yet IMO anyway.

Learning
Well, I tryed to set up the EPM for Sidekick from scratch. No go, it's different than a lot of other devices it seems. Could anyone direct me with this a little? Please? It would be awesome because I really want to learn some while building this.
I know I have a lot of questions, but believe me, I appreciate it more than you know and I love the community for all its provided help. I have one more:
Which file happens to be for the notification background? Have tried a few but see no differences :/
It is amazing how PDT and ayoteddy got all of this working. I tried editing the classes.dex file on my own, but it seems that the Sidekick 4G is a freak mutation of some sort.
I wound up taking a shortcut and used GenericGinger's android.policy.jar file. I edited the GlobalActions.smali file using Notepad ++ and added the reboot info from the public.xml located in the framework.

Self porting interest?

How much interest is there for people to learn how to port a ROM?
I know there are ton's of ROMs out there that are awesome. Some we have and some we don't have. For those of you who want to learn how to port a ROM to our device, would you be interested in a device specific porting tutorial? If so, I will make one.
I know there are TONS of porting guides out there but they aren't very informative on actually what to do. Except for Lens_Flare's and Proxuser's MIUI porting guides. Which are generally helpful enough and that's how I started to learn and then figured out how to do it for just about any ROM.
If there is a large enough interest in learning how to do it for yourself or for the Evita community in general, I will make a VERY detailed NOOB friendly guide.
I am definitely very interested. I started poking around the sense 5 port to see if I could fix bluetooth and quickly figured out that I was in over my head. Would love to see a guide to more than just theming.

I wouldn't go that deep just yet if you don't have any knowledge of smali code. That's what porting deals with, and I'm still learning the coding structure for smali. I have knowledge but I'm still learning it. lol
I'm currently working on the bluetooth issue for that specific ROM.
I will put together a guide over the next few days. I'm going to be making it VERY detailed so there will be as little confusion as possible.

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quickly I actually have some experience reading and interpreting code, although mostly c#. My bigger issue is that unlike with windows, I don't understand what handles hardware and driver management or the boot process of Android. Thus, it is like trying to learn two things at once.
Definitely looking forward to your guide - it is greatly appreciated!

If they hang at boot, logcats are helpful. Also going into the system_server itself through shell. As for TWRP fails, best to pull up a terminal and "adb pull /tmp/recovery.log" most of the time it's a certain character in the updater script. I once had a corrupted .zip that I compiled through the android kitchen. Took me awhile to figure out that it was corrupt, lol.

The best OS to port android ROMs on is a linux distro, right now I'm on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Only because I'm having probelms with my TV as my desktop monitor so I'm using my dualboot on my laptop. I stay off when-doze as much as possible unless it's to download music or for school. Don't feel like using VMware for adobe or Word....
Thanks. I did search Google and found great stuff. I only asked in case you stumbled across a site you prefered over others.
I also use ubuntu 12.04 with windows 7 in virtualbox for when windows is needed. I chose 12.04 over 13.04 only because there's a bug with the included kernel that breaks the sound through hdmi for my ati card.
One could even install ubuntu on an external esata drive for decent speed, portability and so as not to mess up any internal storage configuration.
