Hi.
My 13 year old son has my old galaxy spica, I can't remember which ROM is on it, but it does have CM 2.5.1.0 recovery.
He's currently in a lot of trouble, and I'm hoping the contents of his phone (texts) might shed some extra light on the situation, but it's currently locked, and he's being unhelpful, I believe with a SIM card lock asking for a PIN rather than an unlock pattern.
I was hoping repeated wrong guesses would force PUK lock, then I'd contact the network for a key (phone is in my name, I pay the bill) but I just get a 30 second delay after 5 attempts.
So, the obvious question, how do I bypass the lock, is it even possible without wiping the data on the phone?
Alternatively, can I just access the data, as I do have recovery on the device?
Thanks
edit - taking the SIM out still has the phone showing the "Enter Password to Unlock" screen
I think there's no way around that...the only way I know how to take the screen lock off is to do a hard reset but then everything off the phone will be gone...I dont think you can get around the screen lock AND keep the contents in tact, but I could be wrong...
Thanks - his brother just gave me the code
I suppose the follow on question - any way to lock someone out of the settings menu?
edit - solved -app lock (app)

Hi
Im running CM7 nightly and have been using it without problems since it came but today my phone rebooted and when it started up my unlock pattern didnt work anymore and gesture function was activated on the lockscreen (wasnt before). I have USB Debuging enabled so if someone knows a way around please tell me.
Ive searched and tried these methods but nothing works. After i reboot the problem is the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485988
Ive changed to unlock pattern with digits and used a 6 digit code before crash. I can recieve calls and answer but not access anything except the rotatary unlocksceen and the digitboard for unlock pattern. If i enter wrong code 10 times it just gives me 30 sec timeout and then back to start (no permant lock activated as it seems).
Please, any help is appreciated. I really dont want to factoryreset the phone.
Edit: The phone is HTC Desire HD
I looked around, but couldn't find an answer to this. Sorry if this has been asked before; you can close this and point me in the right direction if so.
Is there a way to change the backup/failsafe after the face unlock without redoing the face unlock? What I mean is, can I change from a pattern to a PIN without resetting the entire face unlock? Or can I change the pattern or PIN without resetting it?
I ask this because I have had problems with people going through my phone in the past, so the combination of a new job (with lots of confidential emails, etc.) and crazy girlfriends has made me want to make my phone as secure as possible. While the face unlock + blink keeps it pretty safe, I want to change the backup pattern/PIN from time to time. People see me enter it when the face unlock fails, or once or twice I've had to give it to someone to use my phone when I was across the room or outside or something. Once someone has this pattern/number, the face unlock + blink security measure can be bypassed very easily. Since I do the Improve Face Matching a few times to make the feature better, I'd prefer to not have to redo this every time I need to reset the backup pattern/PIN.
Thanks.

Bump...
Bump. I'm guessing this isn't possible considering it's an old thread that has yet to be answered. Either that or it's in the wrong section LOL.
Maybe so, but I really want it answered.

Hi, those of you who use WidgetLocker Lockscreen by TeslaCoil Software app will notice than every time when you unlock your phone from the replacement lock screen, you will see that the phone will flash the default lock screen for a very short period of time (less than a second, but this can be really annoying), but it will generally be able to bring it to the screen where you enter your password or pattern. However, sometime it will fail to bring you to the *"simplified version" of the lockscreen, and will just bring you to the default lock instead.*(I mean "simplified version" because unlike the default lockscreen where you can also have the option to use the Emergency Call Option, they only give you the pattern lock or the password lock. (Those who use this software will know what I mean!)). And here's an idea that comes out of my mind: Can we actually disable the default lockscreen while using the WidgetLocker application?
And one more question: Sometime even WidgetLocker brings me to the right lockscreen and I draw the right pattern, it will just simply say that the pattern is not correct and I need to enter it for several times before it accepts it and sometime after many failed tries, I even need to wait for 30 seconds before trying to entering it again. Can someone also fix this problem? Thanks a lot.
My device Atrix 4G ME860 HKTW version is rooted, so feel free to give suggestions that involve root access
since i have installed APM'advanced power menu' on my Xgo 4.1.2, i realized what would happen if my device get lost or stolen with pattern unlock on or moreever with anti-theft function enabled by the app?then this made me create this toppic thinking would become a good idea.
I asked this from the dev but also your ideas would be welcome...
(which one would you preffer ?
having :
-pattern/pin code set on ,then accept this risk that may your device get suddenly re-flashed or thrown away or atleast shutdown(out of power) for long time by the theft?
Or
-nothing on (or just swipe to unlock) and let the theft to easily use your phone then may getting chance to track him/her by any third party pre-installed device-tracker app?)
i myself have choosed to set swipe ,plus of its fascilities its more reasonable for me.
So how about you?
Excuse my bad English

I think it depends on what kind of data you store on your phone. If there is data from my company or private photos and such I want my device encrypted and locked up, because I don't want that persons other than me are able to get this data. But that is a personal decision. Also I think as a thief I would check the phone and if there is no interesting data I would factory reset it, if there is a screen lock or not.
My last phone you couldn't turn off, reboot, or change network settings while the phone is locked. This is a very useful feature as if your phone "walks away" tracking cannot be disabled so as long as your battery is not dead you have full tracking abilities.
I did notice this feature seems to work with GPS. If you try to toggle, it will prompt for a password but that alone isn't enough to track it. I need to lock mobile data as well. I could probly just remove it from my notification tray but that is an inconvenience as I do use that toggle.
Any Ideas?

Not all devices have added those as all it takes to beat them is removing the sim card and all android devices will reboot if the power button is held for an extended time.
Well I thought about the reboot and it will boot back up so I didn't see that as a problem. Didn't think about the sim card though. Well lets just hope if someone gets a hold of my phone they won't think about it either. Anything I can do to make it harder is still worth it.
Oh well. If someone has a way to make this happen please share. I don't even know if its something I can make happen with an app or by editing anything in the android system. I will keep looking in the mean time.

I can tell you that there are 3 steps when a device is stolen and the first one is remove the battery and the second is remove the sim card so no one can call it. the 3rd step is resetting it.
You will need a custom rom to get those options.
If you care about security too much, I would say never unlock your bootloader.
Its so easy to keep pressing the power button and reboot to bootloader and flash stuff to access your memory (With unlocked bootloader of course)
But with locked BL, they have to erase the storage in order to unlock it and do stuff. So, if security is a big concern to you, its good to always keep it locked.
