How do you use the external SD card for apps and stuff instead of the internal?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium

this is no single "setting" u can adjust, u have to do that in an application by application basis

well in other phone development here like the htc evo... rom developers there usually implement this thing called "app 2 sd" im not sure if our roms right now has this? but this will truly install all your apps in the sd card and even some of your "cache" that the phone generates. and it will not touch your internal sd card, you cann Google it for more info.. keywords : darktremor a2sd or cyanogen a2sd

You can also go to settings >applications > select the one you want to move, & if you can... you can move it to the external SD card.. one at a time.

It seems that your method move the app to the INTERNAL SD card not the EXTERNAL one

not for me!

I have App 2 Sd pro and it only allows apps to go to the built in 16 gig card. There is not a setting that I have been able to find other phone or using App 2 Sd that will allow you to use the external Sd card over the internal. It's the same on Asus Transformer.

Not so... In Manage Applications click "On SD Card".... any app that has a green check mark means that app is stored on EXTERNAL SD (Apps2SD).... unchecked means it's on INTERNAL.

do u really have that many Alps that u need to move them to external? unless u have a class 10 SD, and even then, you'll experience a performance hit

not that many
but I want to keep my internal 16 gig as clean as possible as it may have other data than apps

unless its a game, most apps only take 2-3 megs. Even a hundred apps isn't even half a gig. Not worth it on the skyrocket to be honest

That space isn't usable by you anyway. App installs go to a partition that you don't have access to.

Is that 1gb for apps a full gb or

Is it less? Like my g2x has 8 gb internal but really only has 5.5...... Is the sensation the same?
Also does game data store on that 1gb? Like the g2x and vibrant does? thanks
From what I have seen and keep hearing its actually 4 gb with 1.05(ish) available for app installation and whatnot.
yes you get the full 1gb for apps thats the left over space for you its normally 4gb but 3 of it is reserved for the system
I have currently 866MB free memory, while using 310MB for all my current apps. This means you have a total app capacity of 1176MB on your phone's internal storage.
Of course I have a 16GB MicroSD card for my music, pics, video etc.
Hope this helps!

yes becuase the g2x and sgs have a built in memory card its like a built in sd card in the phone formated and partionted a special way. But phones like the desire hd and g2 and htc sensation have a diffrent form of storage to store apps and system files. So it detects the apps partion and sd card so it will install the game data to the sd card.
i have 3 big gameloft games..and they all run from the SD.. i have to say the games run so smooth and look stunning especially modern combat 2 and asphalt 6 !
you can even put movies and music on g2x and sgs without a memory card that's mainly how you can tell if it will save the game data to phone. If it doesnt allow you to save media to internal phone then it will save it to sd card. Like the htc sensation

not necessarily...froyo builds and above already have apps to sd built in but only for certain apps that will be allowed to run off sd. if you root and use titanium backup then you could move whatever you like to sd. one downside of this that for apps that has an option for widgets will no longer be available.

This is beyond well known info. Not all games have that option.
Hence why the thread ask about the games that don't.

SD Card Transfers

Hi I just got a 32gb SD micro sdhc card. I put it in my g2x and in SD card and memory in settings it says empty. If I go to applications and try to move a application over it says SD card is full. I think this is because my internal SD card is full. I didn't know I had an internal SD. How can I move it to an external display. App to SD card doesn't work and sdcard enabler didn't work either.
Thnx

First dl es file explorer, its free no ads.
Second make sure you don't have some BS cheapo generic card and that the class speed isn't over 6. From Lu own experience higher speeds are redundant and there's really no difference. I have class 4 16 gb Kingston and it works perfect way faster than any normal class2.
If you are royalty confused which is the phone external and which is the onevypu put in, set your phone storage to external take a pic and there you go easy path tobthe right storage folder. Gl

Its because the phone has internal SD that mounts as mnt/sdcard which is normally external on phones that don't have internal SD storage.
So basically, the expanded slot is mainly for files and media, correct?

yeah, but with the amount of internal storage available on these devices, i see NO benefit to moving apps to sd. that was a benefit with older phones, but it seems all the newer models coming out have ample room for app installs. apps2sd seems like a worthless hassle to me any more.
I have to use apps2sd because the Market seems to want to default all my installs to the system storage rather than what it calls the usb storage...am I missing something here? My Captivate defaulted to the internal storage and I would often move into the external sd. My Infuse loaded all apps on the external sd card. This phone seems to go to the very limited system storage options (only like 1.3 gig free). So I feel like I have no choice but to continue using APPS2SD.

What apps are you running that you need THAT much internal storage for apps?
Samsung typically leaves 2gb for internal app storage, the 16gb internal SD for media ect..
I've got well over 150 apps on my phone and haven't come close to using my internal storage.
Well, I need more than the 2GB of internal storage but not much more. Just not used to the way this phone handled app storage compared to my past phones.

Give Link2SD a try; it's fantastic and allows you to move apps, one at a time or multiples (under menu button) to the ExternalSD card (plus it allows you to do so much more, see link above). It sees the External card as it should see it, an SD card that can have apps and data on it. App2SD doesn't give you a choice to move to the ExternalSD card, it only moves from phone to InternalSD and vice versa.

[Q] Apps install to MicroSD default?

So yes, as the title suggests, I want to move my default app install location to my MicroSD card. I've seen lots of tutorials on how to move the default install place to the internal SD card, but nothing has said how to move them to the MicroSD. Thanks for your help in advance!

Actual you can. One way is to go to manage apps then select an app. There you will see a move to sdcard option. The easiest way by far though is to use this handy little app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droidsail.dsapp2sd&hl=en
You can also use it to set the SDcard as the default save location. Some apps won't play nice if installed to SD though. Meaning they take forever to load and there widgets won't work. Why you would need to do this with a phone that has 2gigs of storage is sorta beyond me. The OP must have a metric crap ton of apps. lol

The best help I can manage is a suggestion to avoid this. There is a good reason it wasn't implemented, more than one. Unless you like your apps to dramatically slow down loading times and disappear on boot, that is.

Yes, I did a bit further research and found a way, but it required making your phone think that the external SD was your internal SD, and I just thought that might be too much. Now that you say that it makes it slower, I'm going to abandon the project entirely. I have enough space on my internal SD to store my apps, and I can live with only storing media on my external. Thanks everyone!

[Q] SD card is damaged.

I am getting a message that says "SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it." Is this referring to my external SD card?
Sent from my SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
Yes just format it but you will lose everything on it.Everything
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
The way to find out is to either remove the external card or download an app to check the sd cards.
If you are going to format, try to copy the cards over to your computer first.
When I mounted to my Mac, only 1 card mounted ( the internal) instead of 2. I copied everything off and formatted it just for my own peace of mind. I then copied only what I absolutely needed back. After a reboot, i had the same error. I then shut down and removed the external card, and no more error messages. No great loss, nothing on there that I don't have a backup of already. I guess I need a new external SD. This one was only a class 4 anyway. Do I need to move up in class?

Upgrading classes isn't required. You can go out and buy another Class 4 or even a Class 2 if you so choose. The only difference is the write speed (4MB/s vs 2MB/s respectively). If you use an APPs2SD type app than a Class 6 card will be a good recommendation for you to get as it offers 6MB/s write speed which in turn cuts down on loading and saving times of any apps you use off the card.
But in terms of upgrading classes because it's required, it's not. Buy whatever class card you need or want to buy.
