[Q] [help!] [SOLVED!]Browser: Download Failed, Over and Over! - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I've looked everywhere for a solution to this, but no one seems to have the same issue. Every time I try to download a file, no matter how large or what type, the download completes then immediately fails! I takes anywhere between 5 to 7 sessions of hitting the "retry" button for the download to complete. This is unacceptable for me when I am tethered to my limited data plan or when I am making long, time consuming downloads.
I am frustrated to the point where I want to snap my tablet in half! This is my only "computer" at the moment other than my Nexus One so you can see where my anger is coming from. I have tried all the latest updates from Krakd and Revolver (currently on revolver) but none of them have revealed any results. I even had the same issues with the stock firmware!
I'm hoping this is just a software issue as I don't want to have to return my Transformer unless I really have to.
Help me XDA! You're my only hope!
Solved!

Try using Opera browser instead. I keep opera on my tab just to download files.
I have the same problems with stock browser our dolphin

I've tried opera but I can't even get downloads to start. They just fail without even starting to download.

install astro file manager and enable browser downloader in the preferences.

That doesn't help at all
I'm not having issues opening the app, its the downloading that fails.

Are you sure your links are good?
I'm the same here. Opera is the only browser that works for me.

Format and try again fresh and definitely use Opera to download files. Has not failed me yet.

Format? You mean like a wipe all of my music, videos, etc?
I only use wifi on my Transformer, but I have used tethering on occasion with the same results.

help with download
First and foremost, have you tried to download on wifi and have the same problem? I also have a 3g unlimited plan through metro and sometimes have the same issue. As you have read in the above posts, I also use opera mini and 90% of the time it is succesful. How large are the files you are trying to download? Most carriers will "CAP" data and not allow you to download large files while tethered. Please reply. Also, as another poster posted, this was said to me from playfulgod, if you have an issue, always go back and wipe and reinstall, when you wipe, wipe a couple of times to make sure and reinstall.

I use Firefox to download any files that fail with the stock browser.

I use Wifi 99.99% of the time on my Transformer (data plans in Canada suck). Keep in mind that all these files that fail to download on my TF download fine on my Nexus One on the same network and everything. When you say wipe do I just wipe Dalvik and cache, or do I do a factory reset? (I'm assuming that a factory reset would delete all my file/folders in /SDCARD. Is that true?)
I'm not a noob when it comes to android or wiping and flashing roms, its just that I've tried everything.
@Curti.Nogg
Every browser I have tried has the same issue that I described in my first post except for Opera. Opera stays at 0% for about a minute before it fails.

okay this is what i would do, go to the asus website and download the latest version on to your sd card and extract ONLY the zip folder, place it into the root of your sd card, keep in mind you will have to do this on a computer/laptop, MAKE SURE YOU DO A BACKUP OF YOUR CURRENT APPS AND FOLDERS, put the sd card in the transformer, boot into recovery and wipe everything other than the SD CARD, wipe again and then install the latest version from the sd card, this should fix all of your problems, it seems as though you have a corrupt file/files in the operating system, also i noticed this morning, if you can wait asus just announced ics starting in asia, if you can wait, i would so you can get ics when they post it on their website, if not, the latest version is 8.6.5.21 please let me know if this has helped you or i can help you in any way

Have you attempted using dolphin browser to download with? That has succeeded for me where stock and opera failed

When you say sdcard are you talking about the /sdcard directory or the external microSD? Also, if I have corrupt files in the OS, then why is it that none of the roms that I flashed have fixed that?

There's a superwipe zip file in the revolution hd thread. Use the lite version. Instead of just deleting files off your system...it will essentially format the system...then install the ROM that you want to use. (the lite version of the superwipe zip will leave all your music and stuff on the internal SD alone.)
This is what I do before flashing a ROM...on both my N1's...the new SGS2...and this TF.
I found out early on with the N1 that just doing a factory wipe (whether it's within the OS or from Recovery) sometimes leaves 'fingerprints'.
Try that if you haven't already...(don't forget to nandroid)...
P.S. If that doesn't help...yeah...back up your internal SD and use the FULL version. Maybe there's a gremlin in the internal SD that not letting the browsers to save to that location. (in Opera...have you tried saving it to a different location...such as the external SD?)

you need to put it on the micro sd card. the corrupted files are embedded in the cache, i have ran into this problem before, henceforth wipe everything 2 to 3 times except the external micro sd card, i ran into this problem on my ascend and it drove me nuts, so i contacted playful god and directed me to do exactly what i am suggesting to you, make sure when you download the zip file from asus you download the right one, it all has to do with your sku which you can find out in the about tablet section of your tablet, if you need help being walked through with the process in detail, let me know and i will try to help you as much as i can, after you flash the stock rom do not reload any of your apps, go to the market and download a fresh browser download and try it.

Thanks sooooooooooo much!

-=Sorry to resurrect an old thread=-
But I wanted to note for all those that search Google and find this thread that there is an easier option. As noted above the issue is that there are two download folders (Download vs download). Just go into Root Explorer and rename Download to something else. The download folder will then appear. Rename that one as well. Then just create a lower case 'download' folder. I couldn't delete the folder, but renaming it worked and I could download again.
Granted this is a band aid fix and doesn't show or solve the root cause, but it's a lot easier then reformatting your entire phone.

I could really use a hand with this pickle

okay, so i've found myself in a bit of a pickle. Recently I've been running the CM7 nightly's, but today I tried out the RoyalGinger rom and I believe it either corrupted my SD card or it's blocking my SD card from being used/read.
Tried several times to reformat it but each time it said 'checking SD card', but the weird thing is I have an active wireless connection, but I'm not getting texts. I can download from market, get on Facebook, etc, but my texts won't come in until I reboot the phone. A few times I booted it up and it wouldn't allow me to even see my homescreen because it'd pop up with EVERY app force closing (including google services, framework, etc), I was able to get back to my homescreen by clearing by Dalvik Cache luckily, however I'm still unable to do most anything. I went in to wipe/restore but it says cannot find SD card, directory invalid, cannot mount, etc.
Is there a way to reformat my SD card through terminal? If so could I get the code procedure for it? or anyone have any ideas other than picking up a new micro (which isn't a big deal but I'm strapped on money til Friday) but i'd still prefer to know that it's JUST my SD card and not my phone memory. Anyone? Anyone? Beuler? Beuler? Thanks in advance. I'm really sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, but c'mon, everyone gets one.
Ok so do u have a stock backup rom? Ide say go to rom manager and go to recovery and whipe etc.. Then install that stock back on it.....And can ur sd card even read at all? Just get any.file manager and check your sd.

I think I have a backup rom of CM6, but not an actual android stock rom. It won't allow me because it says 'must have an SD card inserted' then it says must have clockwork mod recovery installed, which I do, the current version. Now that it says that I'm afraid to boot my phone into recovery, and I can't really tell if my SD card will read. I was able to use my file manager and the entire SD folder is blank.
ten minutes later: still boots into recovery, none of my backups are available on it. I was thinking about downloading a rom from the phone and trying that way, but I don't know if it'd save to the (apparently unreadable) SD card.
Ok try this...... Find out what recovery you use 3.0.0.5 or the normal 2.5.1.4 for froyo then download a rom thats the same recovery as the one u have on it right now...... If its the same as your cyanogenmod 6 then install that from the recovery manually!!!
if its not then download a rom that is and make sure you use a file manager to see if the download sticks in your sdcard. And if it doesnt stick then......your problem sir might be a corrupted sdcard, or a phone that cant read your sd.
Hope its not either or, so give it a shot.....

It sounds like he doesn't have access to his sdcard. It doesn't matter how many backups you make if that's the case...
If you happen to have a sdcard reader or a microsd usb adapter you could format it in windows, copy the files you need, and start again. Also did you try connecting to your pc and seeing if it's readable that way? You can format the card if your pc recognizes it. If you have adb set up you can push the recovery image to the phone without a sdcard. But once again without a working sdcard you won't be able to flash a new rom.
Hey guys I'm pretty sure it's just my SD card. I tried saving an image, just to test it and it says 'an SD card is required to download images.bin', so I'm HOPING it's just my SD Card, however my notifications are working properly so I can at least deal with it til friday, if it IS my SD card reader in the phone, well... I have a plan for that, however due to already technically breaking that I shouldn't go into it. Thanks to you guys for taking the time to post and if you know anything else that might help me I'd gladly accept it.

Hi, I have a reader on my laptop but not the adapter, so I can't tell and yes, you were right, I can't see any of my backups (which I have my stock, then cm6 and cm7) so I either need to find an adapter or get a new SD card. luckily I pulled all of my camera images off my phone last night when I put the new rom .zip on the phone sd, so I'm not really worried about 'losing' anything as long as I get my phone working back in proper condition.
Well that happened to me before as well.. All i did was replace sd cards lets the phone do its thing flash a different rom like CM6 or CM7 and then once replaced i got the adapter for my old sd card reformatted through windows and put it right back in and it worked.. So try that?
Ill have to. Thanks a lot guys I do appreciate any comments and suggestions and ill be picking up a new sd later thia week to fix it but can amyone recommend a good brand sd to pick up? the apparently failed one was a samsung 8gb

Something similar happened to me. Your SD card likely has a bad or corrupted file. I used Win7 to copy over what I could to a folder in my PC. The Win7 automatically refused to copy over the corrupted files while carrying over everything else. In XP, your file transfer stops and you have to try again to ensure you have everything that's not corrupted transferred over.
After copying, I just went ahead and formatted the SD to FAT32, transferred everything back, installed on my phone, and voila.
Go into recovery and partition the card. You'll lose everything on it but it should be useable after that

Problem with my rooted Inspire running Android Revolution HD not syncing correctly.

I got my Inspire and used it normally for about a month. Then I rooted it and tested out about 5 different ROMs and came to like Android Revolution for it's Gingerbread and Sense 2.0 that could have parts of it individually upgraded. (That's besides the point)
Anyway, as it only comes with an 8 GB microSD I looked on ebay for a 16 GB microSD and found one for about $20 or something, class 4. Anyway, I basically hooked up my phone with the old SD card in it, copied the entirety of its contents and then ejected the SD card and put in the new one. Pasted the contents from the old onto the new. Worked fine for a time. Now my phone will occasionally get stuck in a loop of boot animation, starting and working for 1 minute, then going back to the boot animation. I also noticed that any app installed to my SD through ZDBox becomes unusable. I then have to go back to the market and reinstall the apps as trying to restore from my Titanium Backup doesn't work.
I also have noticed that my photos and music can't be accessed. I even looked with root explorer and on my computer and can't find my music or photos at all. I've tried syncing using DoubleTwist and by copying and pasting the folders from the old SD to the new SD in the same directories.
Finally, just a bunch of force-close issues with everything on the phone. Using Rom Manager to Fix Permissions fixes things for a while but then it restarts.
I know it's a lot to read, but I don't know what is causing this and how to fix this. I even tried restoring a backup I had made, but it only resumed about 3 hours later. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance!
Things I would do:
If AR requires EXT4 sd card (it will say on the front page, and I believe it does)
-Format your sd card.
-Follow the steps for converting it to EXT 4 ( should be found on the front page)
-Create a back up with recovery or rom manager.(it doesn't matter which)
-Retain the 8gig back up.
-Wipe your phone through recovery (not through rom manager.)
-Redownload the rom.
-Re flash the rom.
Thanks, I'll be sure to try this later tonight.
Hate to reopen this topic, but when I tried to reflash the ROM, I was greeted with a an error saying I cannot open "(insert filename here).zip (bad)".
I've looked, and tried a couple of solutions other people have had, but so far they haven't worked. What can someone suggest?
I'm assuming it has something to do with the fact that the md5 checksums are different and don't match. I've downloaded AR HD about 5 times and moved to the phone. I get a different md5 checksum everytime.

Thanks for the advice. The checksum for the downloaded ROM matched, then I pasted it onto the SD and it matched when I checked it on the computer. Then I went into recovery and tried to load it and it's still giving me a the file bad error. I checked the checksum through recovery and it was a completely different checksum.
I'm really confused as to why I'm having these issues.....
make sure you disconnect the phone/sd card properly - sometimes the OS will report the file has fully written but the cache is still writing the file. If you can, use a service like dropbox or another file sharing (via web) and download the rom directly to the sd card - might get better results.

[Q] Flashing Rom can't find sd card in recovery.

First off, I have never had a rom for this phone that works well for a long period of time. Every single one slows down eventually and will get random shut downs and other problems. This time, I decided to reflash it to a fresh start and put Valhalla Black edition on it. And I mean completely fresh. I backed up my few files, formatted the sd card, factory reset the phone, and flashed stock KD1 in Odin. Up until this point, everything had been going perfectly fine and the ROM installed just fine. At this point, I put Valhalla onto the sd card to flash and boot up into CWM. This is where I am lost. First, I go straight to "install zip from sd card" and almost get ready to install, but then remember to double check my mounts. Mounts good, but as soon as I select "install from sd card again", I get the error that the sd card can not be mounted. I restarted the recovery and tried to install, and I got all the way to selecting "yes" to install the ROM. But still, Error: can not mount sd card.
So basically I have figured out that I can navigate to the rom and attempt to install before I get the error, or I can just check my mounts and not even get past "install zip from sd card" before I get the error and have to restart the recovery. Could this just be the card's problem and I need a new one, or is it something else? I need help, I am completely lost at this point.
Thanks guys.
EDIT: I may want to add that this same sd card completely crapped out on me about a month ago and I had to reformat it to get it working again.
Also, does anyone else always have their roms slow down after awhile? I would say that the average time for one of my roms to start getting random restarts and constant app closings is about one months time.
Format it on the computer. Fat 32
If that doesn't work try using Panasonics SD card formatting utility.
If that doesn't work maybe try changing voodoo.
Okay I am finished cutting and pasting what I found regarding this issue using search.
Hope one of them helps. If not... utilize the search in the forum. It is pretty neat!

Ok. Also, I have a question for you. I noticed that you are using your device on AT&T. Did you have constant notifications popping up about a Tmobile contacts backup or anything else? That is another thing that I need to find a way to get rid of.
I am on t-mobile. But I uninstalled t-mobile back up and use google. The Panasonic sd card format worked for somebody else. So did following the gb starter pack. There are a lot of posts regarding this issue. Different things have worked for different people.
System Toolbox is my preferred app to uninstall system apps like t-mobile back up.

Yup, just use the KJ6 Debloater, or whatever program, to remove the T-Mobile Contact Backups apk

Thanks for all the replies! Ill attack the phone again in awhile and see what I can do.
I had this problem too after a failed restore sent my phone into a bootloap. When I odin'd a new kernel, it wouldn't mount, even though I had CWM. It wouldn't work until I odin'd a new rom. I used FB's starter pack and it fixed it perfectly.
Also, about the T-mobile contacts, it's annoying as hell because I don't have T-Mobile either. Once you load a KJ6 rom, use FB's debloater to get rid of T-Mobile contacts backup. You will notice a large amount of ram is freed up from deleting all of the t-mobile items.
Also, if you are starting from KD1 froyo, you need to follow FB's starter pack to make sure you get the proper gingerbread boot loaders on your phone.
Your SD card may be going bad, is there another one you can try?
I've had the same rom for months and haven't had issues or slowdowns. It might be caused by a specific app you are using. Though it may not be a bad idea to go into CWM every now and then and wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions.

[Q] Internal Storage Related Freezing?

I've had my TF101 since it first came out, and I've run plenty or ROMs over it and had a good ol' jolly time. Recently, when I had a movie on a USB stick and tried to move it to the external storage, the system would just sit there. ES File Explorer showed a status bar that never moved.
I tried a couple other file managers - no go.
Today I took it up and tried to move over a file via USB (it's running ICS) and the progress bar didn't move.
Okay, Recovery mode >> Factory reset / Wipe cache / Wipe Dalvik >> Boot into ICS.
Now it let me copy over files!
I installed Revolution, the latest version, onto it and used the Full Wipe which does an EXT4 format. So all is well until I start performing actions related to the internal storage.
As I was re-downloading apps, I decided to grab an offline map from Google. At the same time; all apps stopped downloading and the Google Maps download failed.
At this point, it will often tell me that the Google Play Store has stopped unexpectedly. It will also not let me resume or cancel any download. Any attempt to force stop an app or clear its cache or delete its data will simply not yield a response. I can still run around the OS and click things.
I tried this while a MicroSD was plugged in and while it wasn't. It happens when the dock is connected or disconnected. It happened on my old EOS nightly and on the current Revolution. This leads me to believe it's likely a formatting or hardware problem. Any thoughts?
Also, thank you so much for taking the time to read through this.
TL;DR? Internal storage craps out after mild use, tablet remains unfrozen.
Cheers,
Sacrosaint.
UPDATE:
I've been playing around with the device some more. After the 5 reboots or so that it took to install all my apps, I managed to save ~200MB of offline maps without an issue. Only when I then tried to install Google+ did I get an "Insufficient Storage" warning and a play store crash. Maybe this means something?
Reformat again using wipe data/factory reset 3 times. Then run superwipe.zip 12 times, to make Sure it works. Also make sure your CWM is a working version.
Make sure in storage that 'other' isn't taking up alot of space as well, logs can do this.
I have the same problem. I did try the multiple data wipes, followed by multiple SuperWipes (Full) and still no dice. It is not stable beyond 5 minutes of use. It crashes various programs and processes until it is in an unusable and unbootable state.
Help? Please?
StevieJake:crying:
This is an interesting reoccurring problem for some..
Early on we were getting some problems with this type of things and there was a fix via edited the superwipe script to allow a bit more in
one of the system partitions..will take me a little while to find the thread..might pay to have a look and see if this fixes it..
But it does bring up the question again and the need for a deep format that actually does a full wipe of everything..i was under the impression that that mike's superwipe did this..and Nvflash would do it too..i am meaning a one time run of these should do it..?
Therefore multi runs of these programs should not be needed..

[Q] p6800 Reboot Issue, How to Save my Files?

I was using my p6800 running Paranoid Android 3.54 to record audio and I filled up the internal memory. I used ES File explorer to cut the files from the internal SD Card and paste them to the external. They copied correctly, but then my device suddenly rebooted itself. During the "Samsung 7.7" flash screen, I can now hear a clicking sound for a few seconds. The phone rebooted, detected my SIM card, seemed to be working fine... then it rebooted again. I've wiped data, cache, dalvik. I've used CWM to flash a fresh version of PA. But I still get the same problem.
From google research, it seems that I have a corrupted eMMC, which I could probably just format, reinstall a rom, and solve the problem. But this all happened on vacation and I have some pictures I really want to save.
During the 10 or so seconds before the phone reboots, I can see that the files are still there. In previous versions of CWM there was an option for connecting via USB, but seems my current vesion doesn't have this option. If I use Odin to install a newer version (6.0.2.3) will it have this option? Will it wipe my files?
I just need to access those files from CWM or recovery mode and copy them over, but I can't find anyone with this specific problem or a good solution. Does anyone have any other suggestions or options?
Are you able to boot into recovery? I haven't used cwm to much but TWRP has a file explorer option and I'm sure you can copy and move files that way.
