Automatic Brightness - T-Mobile LG G2x

Can anyone get the Auto Brightness working on CM9 where you edit your own level? Mine doesn't seem to work on CM9 Kang 3...

just wanted to confirm your problem

My auto brightness works also personal brightness settings. Everything works on my SK3.

I mean "Light Levels" than "Use Custom"
Custom light level doesn't seem to work... Or is it just me?
Display > Automatic Brightness > Use custom > Edit Other Levels

No problems with adjustment of brightness here.

So your filtered/raw works?

Both adjusting through the notification power widget, as well as adjusting the brightness bar in settings works fine.

I know that works.. I'm asking for the Raw/Filtered value, if they change or not..

That never worked on this phone and was removed early in CM7. I have a feeling it will be removed on CM9 as well.

Yeah doesn't seem to work, auto brightness seems a bit wonky too. Indoor brightness is way too low.

Auto Brightness

Is there an app or a hack that lets you set the levels for auto brightness? My phone is never bright enough with auto brightness enabled. I still want it to adjust based on the ambient light, but I want the whole scale a little on the brighter side. I thought I saw something like this for the Vibrant but can't find any info now about it.Any ideas?
Thanks!
look for toggle style widgets, I use power control plus and it has a feature for me to set 4 different brightness settings. there are a ton out there, i recommend to google it first or just go to the market on your computer first.

Thanks! I am familiar with the widgets that allow you to manually control the screen brightness, what I was hoping to find is a way to edit the already existing "Auto Brightness" feature to scale up the overall brightness. It does a good job getting brighter when there is more ambient light but overall it is just too dim all the time. I was pretty sure there was something out there for the Vibrant that did this, I just cant find it for the GS4G.
Hmmm..

I see, I misunderstood your question. That would be great to change the overall brightness just like you can change the density. ill investigate.

[Q] Custom auto brightness setting?

I want to use auto brightness, but the auto brightness on this phone set the screen too dim most of the time.
When I was using Cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire, the rom allows one to customize the auto brightness settings (light sensor threshold, screen brightness at each level etc.) Is there any app on the market that can do the same thing?
I have the same problem. But I want it to be darker. Does anybody know how to adjust the auto brightness?
Pull down the notification window. Click quick settings and you will see it right there

That's not what I'm looking for. I want automatic adjustment but not so bright as it is now.
Just want to add myself as another user who is in need of this feature. I can code, but I have no mobile dev experience/patience
Just to be clear, you want a manual auto-brightness setting? Just use a ROM that includes manual brightness in the notification bar.

Yes, that's right. I`m using LeeDroid and that rom doesn't have that option.
Nobody knows?
Maybe here is the start... I have not used it.

I would say what's needed is more like the ability to add or subtract brightness values from what the phone thinks the screen brightness should be.
So say the phone decides 70% is the right brightness, but you think actually it's brighter than it needs to be, you can set to always subtract 20% etc.
Conversely if you think the screen is always too dark, you can set it to always add 20% etc.
Would be a handy app to have.
Not sure why the custom auto brighness app needs to know where you are or have full internet access though...
Doesnt CM7 have this feature?

[Q] How to disable screen dimming during navigation

Okay so I discovered that Auto brightness in CM7 is messed up so instead I am using manual brightness setting. So far so good, but when I use Google navigation, after a while the screen dims to lowest brightness and wont go back to my brightness till the navigation app speaks next instruction and then it dims again after a timeout.
Anyway to turn this annoying behaviour off?
Does changing the screen timeout setting help?
The one under Settings > Display > Screen Timeout is the setting I'm reffering to.
No, that only affects the screen turning off. It remains on, just dims to lowest brightness
Give this app a whirl. You can select an app and while in the app you selected (navigation/maps/whatever) the screen will never turn off. I don't think it will dim either.
You have to use navigation thru car home to prevent that.

Better auto brightness

It's always too dark. Any way to mod this? I don't really want to manually adjust, as that is tiresome.
Seemed to work better on my old p1000.

I did a kies update. Seems to be worse now. Too bright in the dark and too dark in the light. Also slow to react to light change. How difficult can it be for samsung to setup auto brightness. I actually think my old p1000 is a better tab in many ways apart from the 3d speeds..

I wonder if this is because of a low quality light sensor. My Motorola Atrix does a pretty good job of regulating brightness automatically, except even that one is still too bright in the darkness.
For now I just make manual adjustments to the brightness on the tab, but thankfully the adjustment slider is right there on the notifications pop up so it only takes a second or two to make an adjustment.
Yes I could do manual adjustments but when I go outside and it's very bright I can't see the screen and this is where auto brightness needs to work well, which it doesn't and it is far too slow to change when I really want to take a quick pic, it just fails as I can't see the camera app for about 5 seconds.

You may want to uncheck the auto adjust screen power box that is in Settings > Screen. I notice that tends to darken the screen as well, even with auto brightness disabled. Screen mode (dynamic, standard, movie) also affects the color temperature of the display which may give a darker tone. Try the different modes and see if that helps. I notice movie mode gives a warmer look to the screen where standard seems cooler.
well , are you using screen protector ? maybe its the cause ? anyways i don't really like to set it at auto as the HC brightness is SUCK in many ways ... i like to adjust it as i want .. so live with it until samsung do something .

Unchecking that box made a huge difference. Thanks.

Yes this does seem to improve the brightness a little bit.

New Auto Brightness App called Lux
There is a new app in the Android Market called "Lux Auto Brightness" (I am new here so cannot post links but just search the market for Lux) that is by far the best Auto Brightness App I have seen yet. It is hands down better than anything that comes with stock Android. I have installed it on my Tab 7.0 Plus and it pretty much solves all of the issues/complaints I had with the built-in Auto Brightness. I really love how you can change the preset backlight level (for any light condition) to one that works better for you and once changed, the app will use that backlight level instead of its preset. This is a paid App but only cost $1.02 and lets face it, $1.02 is a very small price to pay for Auto Screen Brightness that works (no, I am not the author of the app). If you are going to install it on your Tab Plus 7.0 just ensure that you turn off the built-in auto brightness as well as unchecking the "Auto adjust screen power" setting under the Android settings/screen menu. Below is the description of the App from the Android Market...
Lux isn't your ordinary brightness app. It intelligently adjusts the brightness of your display based on the environment you're in. If, for example, you step into a dimly lit room, Lux will automatically lower the brightness of your display to make it not only comfortable to read, but to also preserve battery power.
Lux provides the option to automatically adjust the backlight at fixed intervals (periodic mode), when a change in environment is detected (dynamic mode), or when the phone wakes from sleep. It's also possible to adjust the backlight manually. Simply disable automatic mode and you can use it like a traditional brightness tool!
Perhaps the best thing about Lux is that you can teach it how to behave. If the backlight is too bright or dim for your liking, simply open the provided Dashboard, adjust the brightness slider to the level you desire, then hold the link button. Lux will use this new 'link' as a reference in future.
★FEATURES★
→ Custom auto brightness.
→ Sub-zero brightness to make reading in the dark significantly less irritating.
→ Battery efficient
→ Handy brightness widget
→ Option to use the camera to read in ambient light.
→ Power-user settings such as choice of interpolation, sensor debugging, and linked sample editing.
→ Backup to SD.
→ Customisable data filtering for phones with inaccurate light sensors.
→ Gradual fade effect for backlight adjustments.
→ Astronomer mode adds a red filter to the screen to preserve the eyesight of stargazers.
→ Jitter control to prevent constant small changes to the backlight.
→ Night mode, to change the colour temperature of the display for comfortable night time viewing.
→ Add app specific exceptions via compatibility mode
→ No ads, or other nuisances.
Note: Please disable other brightness apps before using Lux. This is still BETA software. The author is not responsible for any issues caused by using this app.
Useful app thanks.

[Q][Solved] Brightness Slider Not Working 5.1.1 / 6.0

Brightness slider on left screen swipe. Number indicates brightness is changing but screen brightness is unchanged. Main brightness control works on the player though. Tested on my Z1 Compact 5.1.1. I remembered that brightness slider worked for me when I was in 4.4.4 and 5.0.2. The same thing can also be seen in my brother's Android One running on 6.0. Can anyone else validate this? Thanks!

It's not MX Player's fault. Android always uses the brightness settings of the top most windows. But, some applications like Floating widgets, Power savers, Display Filters & Brightness control will create a invisible window & will try to keep it on the top of all other apps. So, brightness settings of that particular app will be applied. Kindly find the app that always try to run foreground & disable it.
hmm. Come to think of it, both phones have Klock installed as floating widget. Will test it when I get home. Thank you very much.

Knock Lock really did cause the issue. I tried installing the app on another device with 5.0.2 and the brightness control also didn't work. Thanks again.
