[XOOM 2][Q] Xoom 2 version for Germany? - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
first post here, from someone looking to buy a Xoom 2 (3G) in Germany but who does not live in Germany and therefore would not like to be stuck with a localised version.
Hence the question: are there any "Germanised" versions of the Xoom2 that I should be wary of?
I've asked an online retailer (notebook.de) who advertise the Xoom2 as "German goods" ("deutsche Ware") if there were any differences between that product and an EU version, such as with the language settings. They promptly answered that the difference was:
a) in the supplied power plug (German version suits me fine) and
b) in the pre-installed language - it is German, but "you can change it in all Android devices".
I am a little hesitant about the last part because a friend in Germany has a Xoom 1 which has German as the only language option.
Should I be worried or are there no special German versions of the MZ616?
Thanks,
Tolimas
(can't wait to press that "Order" button!)

I don't know about the Xoom 2, but the original Xoom was localised to Germany with German language only!
I'm also a non German living in Germany, so was incredibly annoyed that Moto would ship such a product, where you can't even set to English, never mind one of the many languages in neighbouring countries! Moto clearly have no concept of how people live in the EU!
My only option was to unlock and re-flash with the Euro standard ROM.
As I said, I don't know if the same will be true for the Xoom 2, but be prepared for a frustrating first few hours if you do get one!

That's exactly what I fear.
On the other hand, I could return my purchase - or simply re-flash it - if it turns out to be localised.
With this thought, I ordered mine today and am now awaiting the courier's call

Desire S from China - Locale Change

Hey everyone.
After many years of using a BlackBerry I took the plunge and bought my first touchscreen device. I had my reservations about typing quality but the HTC keyboard is fantastic.
The device I purchased was advertised as being shipped from the UK by a UK seller so naturally you assume this is a UK device. Turns out this is an import from Hong Kong. This isn't a major issue as you can still use English and that is all I need but I can't modify the locale from English HK to English UK.
My understanding is if my device has the S-ON lock turned off using an XTC goldcard inserting a UK sim should cause it to automatically detect and use English UK as the locale without having to root it and install the European stock rom.
Would I be right in thinking this?
Simple method:
Download Morelocale 2 from market.
Select English(UK) from the list.
That's all.

[Q] Will Transformer purchased in Canada update in Europe?

My cousin asked me to buy him a Transformer here in Canada and take it with me to europe when I go there as it's much cheaper here. My question is, if I buy a TF in Canada and take it to Europe, will it update there ok? Is there somethink to consider? I know that it will come with a North American version of the ROM. Will OTA updates work or will the region somehow be detected?
Sorry for the noob question, but really need help with this.
Thanks in advance!
Should do, if not you can always do it manually through the asus website. I know Canada has the ww model and im pretty sure it is the same model in the uk but not positive if anyone from the uk can verify this. Only thing to consider is different wifi channels as well the power plug. but im sure you can get a converter for that
I have an US version and running it here in Europe Belgium to be precise, and it updated
correctly (both of them a b60 and b70)
regards
Kef
I got my Transformer in Canada recently to bring back to the UK. It has updated fine to 3.2. I got a cheap US to UK adapter off Amazon which allows me to charge it easily.
I got mine in Quebec so the dock keyboard has the French layout (" and @ swapped over), but setting the locale to the UK has swapped them back - although the label on the physical buttons don't tally up with the characters the buttons represent but that is a minor issue and one I got used to very quickly.

[Q] skyrocket in Spanish without root

My grandfather don't know English and needs a better phone, I'm thinking of buying him a galaxy s 2 but I need to put Spanish as the language. Now my mom has the Sgs2 from Bell and I checked the settings and is either English, French or Korean. If I buy him a phone probably from ebay I don't want to root it.
Is there a way to add easily a Spanish package? If not, Is there another gs2 model (maybe att). That will have it already on?
Thank you

[Q] Will a German-purchased phone be OK in the UK?

If I purchased an android phone in Germany (specifically a Huawei MediaPad M1), set the UI language to English, and brought it back to the UK, would I later have problems with updates, or would it simply update happily in the UK as a German model with English UI?
I ask because the UK edition of the MediaPad does not support phone calls, whereas I hope the German one will, in which case I'd like to buy it there.

[QUESTION] Honor 8 FRD-DL00

Hi guys,
I have a few questions about my device as I was unable to find any information about my model after two hours of googling.
I bought my Honor 8 about week ago, I love the device, it is really beautiful piece of hardware.
Anyway I am located in Central Europe in Czech Republic. After two days or so I realized that my phone is not using LTE at all.
Also I updated my phone on the first day I bought it. There is Czech localization available on the phone in EMUI 5, however a lot of stuff is in Chinese (update's changelog, stock apps from Huawei, I am also unable to change HiVoice to Google assistant, etc.) and I had to install Google Play additionally as it wasn't there at all.
I was wondering if this is really a model for the Europe as the shop where I bought the phone says, or they are scammers?
My current firmware version is FRD-DL00C00B368.
I would like to know if there is a way how to switch to the Europe version of the firmware?
Many thanks you guys, love XDA, hopefully someone will have the answers.
Michal
Hi there,
What a weirdo situation. Your current model (FRD DL00 if i'm not mistaken) was taken off the shelf not a long time ago here where I live (France), even tho you can find most editions here (Including chinese and indian if you look hard enough ). Europe's standard model is actually FRD-L09
My suggestion is that you waltz back to the store and exchange your current unit for a FRD-L09. You're perfectly entitled to a refund, as european laws grant you a two-weeks arbitrary refund, and a two-year warranty. More info here : http://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm
Tell me how that works out
Yep you got a chinese version
