[Q] Disable stock browser full screen? - HTC Sensation

So I've noticed that with one of the most recent updates for the phone the stock browser is now set to full screen so that the notification bar disappears right after a page loads. Is there any way to go back to what it was before? I'd rather have the notification bar there at all times.
What's even weirder is that my buddy is running stock 1.50.531.1 as well & his browser doesn't do this.

Does anyone have any insight for this issue?

Almost 600 views & no one has any idea how to change this? :-(

Do you have an ICS rom than it is the option labs in settings, there you can uncheck fullscreen

Nope, running the stock 2.3.4 TmoUS ROM 1.50.531.1
I don't even know what triggered the change, but I hate it.

Don't believe you can but pressing the menu key should bring it up temporarily... sorry I can't be more helpful :-(

Did you go into the browser settings and try to reset to default at the bottom?

yes, tried resetting to default & that didn't help. one of these days I'm gonna try a hard reset & see if that works. I find it most odd that it does this on my phone but my friend has everything exactly the same & his notification bar is always present. I hate having to press the menu key anytime I want to do anything outside of the browser.

Had to hard reset due to UID inconsistant error, hard reset also fixed this issue

Browser Settings

I changed my UAString for the built in browser to Desktop but now whenever I open the app it force closes immediately. I tried doing a factory reset hoping that it would reset the browser settings but the browser is still force closing. I even tried the solutions posted in (forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7237114) for the Vibrant and no luck there either.
I am new to android so I am hoping that someone here can give me a solution to get the browser working again. Also, my phone is rooted and non-market apps are enabled.
Nobody has any ideas as to how to fix this?
I guess I should have posted it when more people would be online instead of four in the morning.

I had the same problem. Go to settings from the home screen. Then applications. Then manage applications. Then press the menu key and change the filter to show all applications. The browser should show up in the list. Select it and delete all app data. the browser should work now.

No luck, still force closing even after deleting the app data (not sure how though since all settings should be cleared).
Any other ideas by any chance?

Rogers Android Froyo 2.2 bugs

Figured perhaps a bug thread for the Rogers 2.2 update may be in order?
Not sure if this is a bug or not, but it does seem a bit odd. The lock screen usually has the text "swipe screen to unlock" or something to that nature (the part with the <<< and >>>) - mine had it to begin with in 2.2, however now it has dissapeared and I just see the little lock icon saying the phone is locked. Is there any way to get it back or is this a 2.2 "feature" so you see more of your background?
The 2nd problem I noticed I have already started a thread on (and no replies ) - it deals with contact linking and Facebook. Seems something is whacky there too possibly. The thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907088

Definitely a feature. I love the clearer lock screen.
Bug: Haptic feedback vibration is very low system wide (not including soft keys).
Bug: Voice Dialer (Voice Dialler) is misspelled in the App Drawer.
Bug: Going to Settings > Display > Font Style causes a crash.
All I remember so far but there has been several.

Confirmed feature of Froyo, or is this a Rogers/Samsung specific feature? Just wondering because it WAS showing up for a few lock screens right after the upgrade, then eventually stopped showing up - reboot/battery reset didn't get it back... haven't tried a factory reset yet to see if that fixes it (if it's broke).

No problems here - did you have it set to a custom/non default font when upgrading? I had mine on default (I prefer that to any other font) and have no issues changing fonts.
I've had some issues with wifi losing it's internet / market connection after wake up sometimes. shows still connected, but no network access. i have to turn wifi off, then back on occasionally.

Go to Settings -> Wireless and network -> Wi-Fi settings. From this screen, hit your menu key and select Advanced and try changing your Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never... perhaps it's set to "When screen turns off" causing you to lose Wi-Fi whenever you lock your phone?
Oh, another bug possibly...
Go to Camera app and open Settings. Open the wrench tab and go to the 2nd page. Click the Update button beside Firmware update. Either of the next two menu choices ("Check version by network" or "Firmware update") seem to freeze the phone (power off required). Doesn't seem to happen all the time, but my first time trying to get the update to do something caused the phone to lock up in to camera mode.
Also, the "It will occur additional fee." message is quite fun... no idea what fees I will incur, or for what reason (and I won't even get in to the grammar issues).

Well it can't be a Froyo feature because no other manufactures use the same lock screen as they do. So it's a Samsung feature brought on by Froyo. Simply, it can't be a bug.

Yeah, I had to it some other font besides the default font...guess I'm screwed now? Bugs like these make me more anxious to get real Froyo.

Its much faster and smoother than 2.1 stock was for me. Did you set it up fresh? Older settings can cause issues.
you guys have this issue? you may not even know it until you try to use mass storage mode. I use iSyncr (lets me use smart playlists based on ratings) so I need mass storage mode.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907854
My wife and I (each have a Captivate) have had none of the bugs you guys have mentioned.
All we have experienced is a faster phone and WAY better battery life.
The only thing that upset me is that the update deleted my Ocean Wave livewallpaper, but I just redownloaded it.
Did some of you guys experiencing bugs ever run a custom ROM? I am thinking maybe these issues might be because you did...
Re: Haptic Feedback.
I've noticed it too, it's much weaker than before.
I could have sworn that I saw the option to turn up the intensity before, but can't find it now.

Go for it..I installed it and so far the improvements have been great over 2.1
Battery life is much improved, its faster than stock 2.1 (and after applying Ryan's OCLF...its incredibly responsive)
If you do have a lagfix installed prior to upgrading you should uninstall that first. Thats what I did and didn't have much problems. my one issue with Swype was fixed by clearing the cache.

I gave it a go on your recommendation. Updated with no issues, now to actually try using it...
Has anyone rooted after applying 2.2? If so, what did you use?
I've been having issues turning on WiFi on my phone ever since I installed the update.
I accidentally clicked Airplane mode on my phone this morning, now my phone has been trying to turn the WiFi back on for about 5 mins....
As for battery life, my phone the first few days after installing Froyo seemed great, but now it doesn't really seem as good? No idea why....
And I've noticed a bit of lag at times while navigating on my phone.
Using LauncherPro Plus as my home screen, haven't rooted or installed any roms or anything.
I have noticed that when you turn the phone on from when it is off, if you don't wait for the wallpaper to display before swiping your phone on, the phone will stall. Mine stalled for about 5 minutes before it responded again.
I'm having a couple of small issues:
1) I can't get the GPS to look position. It just displays "Waiting for Location" and sits there.
2) OCLG - I got about 1000 on quadrant score. It doesn't seem laggy but I wanted to apply this lagfix to see if it can be better. I tried runnig the first option in the menu (z4 rooting), and it tries to launch either a page or the market (not sure which) but says "Page Not Found", but when you close it and press back, it says the root was successful, but all the other options are still "unavailable" so I can't apply the lagfix. There's a second method in the menu to do a root and that one fails as well, so I'm not sure how to get this working.
3) Camera - I got the same problem as a previous poster for the firmware update where it says "fees will occur" then when I click "yes", it tries to launch a page/market (again not sure) and says "Page Not Found".
4) Rooting - not sure how to root because the previous method of putting my update.zip and doing it through the recovery menu fails.
Any help is appreciated.
I was running rooted lagfixed stock Rogers 2.1 before. Removed lagfix first and did a factory reset before updating to 2.2 through Kies.
After updating to 2.2 I re-rooted and lagfixed with no issue.
Things bugs I have noticed on my phone:
- Camera a few times had started up with a black screen only with usual camera options but it's as if it does not see anything from the lens (had done camera fw update on it. You can download it from Samsung Apps app)
- When viewing "Contacts" can't press Back button to exit it so I just press Home button. Small bug
- can't set up smtp outbound email settings on stock email app. Keep getting it can't connect with server even when manually inputting correct settings.
- Battery undetermined as i've been playing with GPS a lot testing it so it drains pretty quick.
- GPS - Had no problems with 2.1 (using GPS + "Use wireless networks") but it's been horrible on 2.2. Locks ok when stationary, fluctuating between 5-9 satellite locks (used lbstestmode to check) but when you are moving or when using it for Navigation, it will be ok for a short bit then would eventually start bouncing all over the place or start getting weak/lost locks. Was using it on the hwy one time and it would suddenly tell me to do a u-turn because it thought I was on a side road. (condition was clear and phone was by windshield).
What it did fix for me:
- Opening Gallery before would sometimes lock up the phone requiring battery pull in 2.1. Fixed for me with 2.2
- Running latest updated Maps would sometimes lock up the phone requiring battery pull in 2.1. Fixed for me with 2.2 but still somewhat useless because of issue mentioned previously.
I can live with all the bugs except for the abismal gps.

Search bar gone from recent apps screen in Lollipop

I just realized my Google search bar disappeared from my recent apps screen. Anybody know how to re-enable it? Thanks!
Running stock Lollipop 5 and elementalX kernel
Same happened with me. What might have caused it?
Sent from my Nexus 4
I just realized the same. I wonder if it was the cause of some of the memory leaks and was therefore removed in 5.0.1 perhaps.

People say to boot with safe mode (long press Power Off in power menu) then reboot and it should work.

Worked for me, thanks! But I wonder the reason that it disappeared, usually the safe mode solves problems when it's an app-related bug, but I have no idea why it comes back for real when reboot to normal mode again.
Maybe CyanogenMod can help you..

Thank you for the suggestion. It worked for me as well. This bug was driving me nuts!
I don't have the search bar in Recents on a recent clean flash of 5.1.. I completely forgot about it since it was missing on 5.0.1 as well. This is the only thread anywhere that mentioned it. It returns after booting into Safe Mode & remains after rebooting normally. All my widgets said, "problem with widget"& I had to remove & re-add them all. It must be a common 3rd party app (with widgets?) we have installed interfering with it. Which one, I wonder? Xposed Modules still work in Safe Mode, so that's not it.
The recent apps (now renamed to "overview" in Lollipop) search bar just uses the search bar widget from the Google search app. If it has an issue with loading that widget for whatever reason then it doesn't show up properly. Don't know why a safe mode boot fixes it.
I recently learned I don't have the search bar in my recents menu because I've replaced the long press function on the home button.
By default it opens Google Now but I use an app to rebind it to turn my screen off.
If you rebind the function, or have it altered or disabled in some way then the search bar disappears from the recents menu as it is attempting to open that Widget.
Had the same problem too. Thanks for the safe mode tip!
Has anyone encountered this issue with Marshmallow? I was resigned to not having the search widget in Recent Apps because I liked using Swipeup Utility, but in 6.0 the API for that gesture is completely removed so I uninstalled Swipeup, did a safe mode boot (which on 5.1.1 did work to restore the widget) and cleared cache.. but still don't have the widget back. It's not a big deal, but it's a quirk and I prefer at least knowing the *why* of it, even if it's not something with a feasible solution (for me).
Dunno
Same thing happened in my opt with oxygenOS non rooted device. Thanks to the safe mode tip. But still wondering which app caused the search bar to be removed and how is safe mode fixing it.

Safe Mode resets all your widgets. The search bar in Overview is also a widget, so something to do with that. I haven't had the issue on Marshmallow yet.

Yeah, I've been having the same issue for the past couple of CM13 nightlies on my OnePlus One.. There is a button to turn the search widget off for the recent apps menu, but I've turned it on and off hoping to clear up the issue, but to no avail. I booted in to Safe Mode, and voilĂ ! It appeared! But when I rebooted it back to normal, the issue reappears. I'm gonna clear the cache for the Google app, but as of now I'm waiting for this bug to be fixed in CM.

Recents and home buttons stopped working and no notifications appear - any ideas?

Very strange one... My wife's VZW Pixel (I have one too) suddenly experience a bunch of changes that we can't find the trigger for. I just spent a hour troubleshooting every possible thing and I am stumped...hoping for some guidance.
Known facts
1. She changed nothing
2. At least one app (siwftkey) auto-updated... I uninstalled it but that didn't fix it
3. She was on the December patch when this happened. I updated to Jan but that did nothing.
4. Device is stock, unrooted with Nova launcher (I tried the pixel launcher and the same issues appear)
Symptoms:
1. Home and recents buttons do not work on any screen... Back button still works
2. No notifications appear on the NAV bar and nothing appears when you swipe down. Sound notifications do work however. No apps are blocking notifications and the individual app notifications are set up properly
3. Double press the power button no longer goes to camera even though that gesture is toggled on
Factory reset is my next step but I am traveling right now and she will need me to set everything back up so I am hoping there might be a fix short of a full reset.
And suggestions greatly appreciated.

Last resort, you can backup apps and data using Helium, then factory reset it. Then restore with Helium. To use Helium, you'll need a PC though.
Any other results on this?? My pixel just hit the same problem! It is in an area that has no internet so it is causing all sorts of issues. I don't know if the two are related at all.

Happens with me today. I was messing around with the device and when I clicked in a YouTube video link on notification shade the device suddenly soft reboot.
Since them, home and recentes buttons won't perform their actions. They still vibrate and home button animates on touch. Status bar shows none notification, even I knowing they are arriving via notification sound and quick settings shade won't pull down completely. My tiles was rearranged as well. No mobile connection either.
I'm running lattes official Oreo. Never unlocked and never rooted my pixel XL 128.
For me a factory reset through settings did the trick.
Would be very good if Google could light us about this issue. No rouge apps on my device. In fact I'm using a few
his is an Android issue.
Step instructions:
- Download Nova Launcher. If you cannot from the google play store, search for it on Chrome and download an apk version
- Install it (you may get a pop up advising you need to let apps installed from chrome, go to settings and allow it)
- Once installed, click on Open. This should launch the Nova Launcher
- Long press anywhere on the screen
- Choose Widgets.
- Look for the Activities widget and hold and place it anywhere on the screen.
- Scroll down to Setup Wizard. There's two, one that's "Setup Wizard" and the other "SetupWizard" without a space. Choose the first. There should be an option under it called ".SetupWizardUpgradeActivity". It might be slightly different for you pending the version OS you have but that's what came up for me.
- Select that to create the widget shortcut then click to open.
- This will bring you to the setup wizard and then just click Next all the way through (turn off any preferences you may have in the past)
You can uninstall Nova Launcher afterwards if you want. You don't need to set it as default.
Perfect!!! Thanks.

PLEASE HELP!! - missing "full screen gestures" option in settings menu

I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I no longer have an option for removing my navigation bar at the bottom of the screen on my Note 9 running Android Pie (OS 9.0). In other words, the option to turn on Full Screen Gestures is GONE from settings. Also when pulling down the notification screen, the option for Navigation Bar is grayed out (quick settings icon) and doesn't do anything anymore. I had this coincidentally happen automatically on both my Note 8 and Note 9 when I woke up this morning. I have since then rebooted several times, cleared cache in recovery, booted into Safe Mode and nothing has helped. I got so desperate that I did a Factory Data Reset on the Note 8 and it did fix it, but I don't want to reset the N9 since it is a true hassle getting everything (incld settings & home screens) back to the way they were.
PLEASE HELP. see screenshots.
Thanks in advance.
Go to Settings - System - System navigation. There should be some option for you.

HERE'S THE ANSWER after so many failed attempts:
First of all I can see that you have a little person's shape at the right of your navigation bar, that's an accessibility service that allows you to select something from your screen for it to be read out by your phone. I have no idea why after an update that thing would activate by itself as if we all had visibility problems (great reasoning samsung). OK TO THE POINT NOW. Go to Settings>Accessibility>Installed services, and turn off the "Select to Speak" option, after this you'll see that your navigation bar options are back again.
If you want to help a bit further with this, It would be nice if you or someone reading this thread can address this to samsung, so they can solve this nonsense issue for everybody. Cheers!
That was it. I don't know either how this option turned itself on, but I thank you a great deal for explaining how to turn it OFF!!
Thanks so much for your help.
