Battery temperatures? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

What are your guys temperatures on your skyrocket? I'm running cyanowiz and sometimes it gets realllly hot like 102 I think? Sometimes higher, so I have to under clock it if it goes over 95

Mine for the most part sits around 87f it hits 98 with heavy usage.

no underclocking, my SR just never gets hot.

I think my phone is overheating...

When I use the phone to play a game or web browse it starts to get really hot on the top half of the screen.

Is there anyway that I can to see if the phone is overheating/getting too hot?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
How hot is it getting? I'm pretty sure every smartphone experiences some kind of heat from gaming or streaming videos specially when you are charging it at the same time.

I mean just web browsing it is burning my hand. It only is the top half.

Any apps running in the background besides using the browser? Have you rebooted your device?

No and the phone does not get nearly as hot on wifi. Really odd. Also the phone was overcloaked before but I pushed it back to just 1ghz. My phone burning me for using the browder out is not cool though. Think there is an issue?

Well there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the device since you said you put it back to 1 ghz. Really odd if you ask me. Maybe its a battery problem? Sometimes defective batteries cause overheating and can explode.

It only gets hot when I use Japan too. Never on wifi. (Well it does a little playing games) I think I will call customer support tomorrow.

And it is not getting hot where the battery is.

I'd recommend you flash and reinstall the ROM on your phone. Sounds to me like you've still go some of the old performance updates kicking in making the device hotter!
For me your temperatures are pretty normal. When I am not gamimg my max was 91F!!
Sent from my CM7 #N12 Nexus S using XDA App
Since you claim to have been able to move around the CPU frequency, I assume you are running setCPU. In setCPU you can look at Info tab where under the battery header it also displays the battery tempt. It's normal for the phone to heat while you are charging, on call for long or gaming for long duration but if you are seeing absurdly high reading for the battery tempt, then you better have it checked.
Hmm I had a overheating issue last night, woke up to my phone making a loud noise - I had set setCPU to make a noise when it goes over 40C and it did this today in the early hours of the morning whilst it was charging.
No processes were running other than the normal Live Wallpaper, Keyboard etc.. The phone was quite hot to the touch as well, so I just turned it off.
Weird thing is I have another profile in setCPU to have the max freq at 800Mhz and lowest 100Mhz when the screen is off so don't know how it got so hot?

CPU Temperature

What temperature is normal? I get between 36-48 C
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda premium
That sounds fine.
Mine normally is less than ~36 and doesn't cross 40. But well, max speed on mine is set at 800. When temp reaches 44.1, my setCPU scales down max speed to 400. It would depend on the temperature at ur location too. There are times when I found mine at as low as 27-28.
Yea I live in the deep south. We are still in mid to high 80s. When inside it stays around 36 to 40. My first infuse jumped to 57 one day. I took that mother back and exchanged.
Sent From My Rock and Chisel via Pterodactyl
That explains. I am in GA, n its around 70 now. But even when its been hot here, it seldom crossed 40. Maybe the fact that I am on edge when not in need of too much data is keeping my phone cool. I turn on 4g only when needed.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
in houston -- my phone stays at around 34-42
but on almost anyday, due to the heat.....when entering my car after work, my phone hits 50+ easy for about 10 min till my car cools down.
Then my infuse is OK

Overclock question

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how fast you can actually o/c this phone without damaging the processors
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Specific to each phone man nobody can say some can get 1.8 some can't go past 1.5 mind you that's just keeping the phone running past those points most bomb and phone boot loops and stuff
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I prefer 1.8 but not all chips are created equal... Mine is a refurbished Skyrocket so im quite pleased. Try it out and go up in increments until you are either blown away by the speeds or your phone says NO! (which usually means a reboot frenzy or boot loops)

Those clock speeds are considered safe so the damage would be from extensive strain from extended time at those speeds which could create high heat man chances are you won't have that issue overclocking is totally safe as long as you don't go crazy
Sent from my SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
The CPU is rated to run 1.2-1.7GHz fine so anything above those will depend on voltage and temperature. Higher voltage/temps are the ones that can cause degradation on a CPU when it gets too high. 1.8GHz should be fine but around that range you may see a higher power draw so if you use it too long it will eat up your battery.
Things that can contribute to higher temps other than higher voltages are use of GPS, keeping the screen on/high brightness, playing games while plugged in, using GPS on a car mount (heat from sun), or just plain browsing for a long time using the modem. Keep in mind that unlike computers and laptops, the phones don't have active cooling (fans) so if you plan to overclock just try to keep the phone in a low temp environment (don't leave phone in car!) :silly:
Just be sure to keep an eye on the temperature. If it starts running north of around 38° C then you should back it off.
That being said, with the badass or SmartassV2 governor I've had plenty of success setting the OC to 1.7

What's the ideal cpu temperature for everyday use?

My CPU temperature without ocing is around 109.4 degrees on average and can go up to 111.4 degrees with regular use.

I'm not sure what normal should be, but i bet it varies from kernel to kernel because of voltage settings. My temp is currently 88-95 degrees according to this widget i downloaded. I am oc'd to 2106mhz.

I got my temperatures in a warm room. I'm outside in 70 degree weather and the temperature went down to 96.8-102 degree on CPU on stock kernel and cpu speeds.
Edit: never mind, it keeps going down. 89.6 to 93.2 degrees now

How hot is hot discussion

So iv've been wondering about heating range in our edison device..
Lemme start with mine...
Mine on idle around 32c to 34c depending on my room temperature..
On data it gets heated up to 40c highest is around 41c..
Gaming =?? I do less gaming so I can't tell..
Running liquid smooth jbx 1.48 oc with pegausq and row..
Edit: u can use Fahrenheit..

Mine is 26 to around 38 celsius. ( It's A bit cold here. So it goes that low over the night)
No gaming. Just regular usage and alot of photoshop.
Running on mokee. It's own kernel.
Even the room temp is hawt here..rarely rain this few days.. So how about on data? For me data was like an oven.. Though it still depending on surrounding..

well this topic is really HAWT!!! lol I wanted to create a thread..
now, my phone gets heated up pretty lot.. from 36 to 42.. I usually keep my data off and keep toggling between 2G and 3G.. using the quick setting.. without data and in 2G, with jbx, it runs for a day easily..

Ever got soft boot bcause of over heatin? I haven't push my phone to that limit b4.. usually if my phone hits 40c + imma put it somewhere cool like on a mosaic floor(sometimes it decrease 1-2c) or stop using it for a while..
I see something about thermal throttle in franco kernel.. How does it work? Is it possible to apply on jbx?

surely we should be able to apply.. but right now, we (dtrail actually) are trying to get the kernel stable and get the compile warnings reduced.. and maybe get ourselves a newer kernel.. then we will start trying to add more options..

Actually mine went upto 52 degree celsius one day. I don't remember which ROM I was running.
I was watching a movie on YouTube continuously for like 2 hours while connected to the charger.
Then I noticed it, quickly removed the charger, cooled it up under a fan. I was like ooh dude my phone is hot!

That's super hot brah ..wonder how phone survive in hot country.. Or in super cold place.. Will it die due to overly low temp? Guess xperia z user will use water cooling system if its too hawt..
Hottest ROM I've ever run is miui v4.. It heats up on idle to nearly 45c.. Then I changed to wangg's v4..

Nope, no reboot. I noticed it was super hot to the touch, and went to trickster and looked at the temp, and immediately stopped playing. I also was wondering 'how hot is hot' myself, wondering if this was normal. My otterbox probably doesn't help much with cooling though
Sent from my MB865 using xda app-developers app
The only thing case help is make me don't realize the heats.. I was nearly 40c once.. It feels like 33c.. When I touch near the camera dang its hawt!!

Hot Hot!
Usually the temperature of my phone is around 26-30C. But as soon as I start browsing or use any internet based app (like Facebook) with 3G, Bam! Temperature of the phone shoots beyond 42C.. I hardly takes 5 mins to move from 30C to 42C.
So I was just wondering if it's normal or something can be done to keep a check of temperature.
I'm using JB Leak 1:rooted in System 1 and Mokee 4.4.2 in System 3.
