Here is my problem:
I want to read several mp3 files from an external dd. And i can't. I just could listen one by one and i must pass by the files explorer to find it. Is it possible to read these files like those wich are on microsd?
I tried other music players like winamp, etc but it the same issue.

Most apps will look in the sdcard by default, which along with a lot more internal space is part of the reason why /mnt/sdcard -> fuse shim around /data/media, and not where the MicroSD card slot mounts to!
As far as apps are concerned an external device be it e.g. USBDisk1 or MicroSD or SD, is just a file path. It gets mounted to /Removable/${Name}. Nothing that special about it.

Thanks for the answer. I am not sure to have undestand all but it s seems normal. I found a part of solution. Using es explorateur and i can listen an entire folder with the application's player. It's not the top but better than file by file.
If somebody have any other ideas!!!

My SD (the one on the Android, not the SD Card, why the hell did they name it SD?!) is full of junk. In fact, it comes with a load of junk by default.
How do I:
1. Get Android to not pull videos, pictures, and music from games? My gallery, video player, doubletwist, etc is full of stuff like that.
2. Know what I can delete and what I can't? I'd like to clean this place up.
3. How do I find stuff? I mean, is it up to me to make "Music" "Pictures" "Videos" folders for my own sake, and Android just looks everywhere and grabs it?
4. How do I go to my SD Card? In fact, I am 100% sure my SD card has two auto-assigned folders on it and nothing else. I have no idea how to access it or put things on it, and I am also sure my phone does not care that it exists. Obviously my phone's SD has plenty of memory on it, but I don't know why there is even a SD card slot. I was thinking of copying some files onto my SD card to put onto my friend's Android phone, but I am also positive I'd have no idea how to perform what should be a basic task.
So, help me out. What am I doing? And, what apps would I need for question four, or just file browsing apps in general.

A search would have answered your questions. your SD card memory is the phones main programs memory. IT is where alot of your apps store the data. You can use many apps to as a file explorer it even comes with one. Its called My Files. I use Root Explorer which allows to access Root files and make changes to them. The sd card slot is for....wait for it.......More memory. As for it not seeing the files. there are a few music apps that let you set the folders it scans. Power Amp is the best at the moment IMHO. You can also put a file in the folders that you dont want scanned named no media, (with root explorer you can copy one of these files from the root folders if you can make one.)
with pre existing folders (for apps and such)
create a "new file" in it named " .nomedia " with the . (preriod)
this can be done with root explorer or in windows. create blank text document rename to .nomedia with NO .txt then copy and move to folders.
nothing in that folder or sub folder will be included in media scans
or if it is a personal folder you are creating name it starting with a . (period)
and ya internal SD gets messy. Use external for your files to keep organized!
Wouldn't my SD card (even if it is SDHC) be slower? DoubleTwist is already inexcusably slow with my files on the SD itself, what would it be like on the external?
And yes, I know what the SD is, I was just asking why it was named that.

First post as a new Asus Transformer owner:
I seem to be having problems with the MicroSD card, I have a brand new 32GB card, formatted as FAT32, it can be read and written to correctly on my pc.
When inserted into the Transformer I get a "Preparing external storage" message, LOST.DIR is created on the card, and the card is visible as /Removable/MicroSD/.
All good so far but then most apps can't see anything on the card and everything seems to be looking in /mnt/sdcard/ (internal storage) for files.
Examples -
I create a nook folder on the microsd card, then a my documents folder under that and place epub files in there but the nook app can't find files either in /Removable/MicroSD/Nook/MyDocuments or /mnt/sdcard/Nook/MyDocuments
Aldiko book reader - I hit home then sdcard and it displays the contents of /mnt/sdcard with no way to navigate to /Removable/MicroSD
Dropbox places files in /mnt/sdcard not on the MicroSD card
The Music App however is successful in automatically finding music in /Removable/MicroSD/Music
I have tested this with another (8gb) card and the same behavior happens.
Is this normal? if so how do I get the apps to look in (and store files in) the MicroSD card?
I am no expert but I think this is one of the "bugs" that need to be worked on in Android 3.x. It is most likely the reason why the XOOM still has no official microSD support. How are you going to mount the internal memory as /sdcard and in addition use a removable medium, also called /sdcard? Unfortunately, /sdcard is commonly the removable medium so I am curious as to what the solution will be! For now we just have to "suck it up" until someone smart comes up with a work-around

i can move some apps to SD card but i think it just moves them to the internal SD card.
it seems that there are 2 SD cards in the phone but no way to differentiate between the 2.
also it sometimes takes forever for the gx2 to recognize the card, its kind of annoying. is having a class 10 better for this?
I use filemanager from the market and it recognizes my external as........"_externalSD" also allows me to transfer files between the two.

When you have your phone plugged in pull down the alert bar on the top of the screen and press the "USB Connection" option. It should ask you if you want to turn USB mode on and have a picture of an Android. This will allow you to mount your internal and external sd as if they were regular flash sticks. You can then copy whatever you want to them. I also like to use drop box in combination with Astro for moving things to and from the cloud.

1. G2x has the internal sd card partitioned into 2 parts (1 for OS & apps & other for storage & apps).
2. Sd card's class does help but it is not something important until you're running a high def video.
3. Use any file explorer app (File expert etc) for copying files from Internal SD Card to External SD Card.
4. Most of the app's setting menu gives you an option to physically select the storage destination folder i.e. external sd card.

Yes, just simply copy the entire FOLDER of the particular file to your External SD Card & if in future, if u download something directly from your phone then simply just copy/paste it from your using any file manager app.

so i have the phone connected to the computer and I see 2 No Name disks. That's fine. I put a folder called music at the root level of the 32GB card. Now I find that folder in File Expert and I go to play something and it says that file isn't supported. I tried Google Music and Doubletwist. Just mp3's from a CD. are there certain settings for android i need to know about? and do i need to go to File Expert to play this music everytime? Or should I be going through doubletwist on my mac and using it like itunes?
thanks you any help, i'm pretty clueless with this aspect of android right now, trying to catch up.
also both SD cards randomly unmount themselves. is there a reason for this or a way to prevent this?

Ok. After reading your problems, here are my suggestions:
1) Copy your 32 GB SD Card files on your computer.
2) Format your 32 GB card. Replace all files back in it.
3) Stop worrying about putting certain files (pics, music) in a root folder. Simply just put any files OR folders inside the Sd card.
4) When it comes to File sharing, think of Android in the same category as Windows.

This is my first tablet so please forgive these dumb questions. I've been spoiled for years with CM# on my phones so I'm having a hard time adapting.
Is there a way to force apps to use the MicroSD card when saving? Example: In Dolphin HD, you can set your download directory. It defaults to "/mnt/sdcard" which is internal memory. I want to change it to "/Removable/MicroSD" but it keeps telling me that path is not available and to pick another. I googled a bit but all they tell me to do is save to internal then copy to external. I know I'm going to get tired of that really soon...
Some apps allow me to save to the external card. I set K-9 to download attachments to the card and it took the path but when I actually save an attachment, it says it's successful but I can't find the attachment in either internal and external memory. And yes, I did confirm I typed in the right path.
Any suggestions?

I don't know if this is the issue, but ASUS has decided to mount the external memory cards under a directory in the root directory ("/Removable/microSD" and "/Removable/SD"). Have you rooted your TF700? Most other systems I've used (the SGS2 primarily,and the LG O2x) had the external cards mounted under /mnt/sdcard/(_)External_SD, or under "mnt/emmc" as is the case under CM#. It might drop down to not having write access to these directories (although that'd be strange and never encountered efore on my devices, at least)...
EDIT: under Opera, for example, I can save an embedded image on XDA on the external microSD and I can find it with Total Commander (and open it with QuickPic).Still, I'm rooted.

as for reading from the card, yes, I can confirm that I can do the same - anything I put on the external card, my apps can read from it. I just can't seem to make apps write to that card, only internal.

You're welcome. Indeed, I meant that I can save an online image using my browser of choice onto the external memory. That's what seems to be the bottleneck in your case.

Thanks for the explanation. Yes, I can confirm Opera works as advertised. Seems to be the only browser that can.
Stock and FF do not allow custom download directories
Dolphin HD didn't accept paths to external memory (and won't allow downloads larger than 2GB )
Chrome didn't allow downloads at all :crying:

I've moved phones, and my new phone calls it's internal storage 'sdcard0'. Due to the fact this is what my last phone called the external SD all of the file paths for my backups have been broken. The most important of these is PowerAMP, which is looking for the files in the wrong place. While I can get it to find the files, all data(artwork, ratings etc) is lost. I cannot move the music to the internal storage, as the folder is bigger than the internal storage.
Is there a way I can modify the data/apk to look for the files in a different location? I've changed the prefix with playlist files in windows before, and it worked.
Do I instead need to change the names of my SDcards? If so, what kind of problems would this cause, and what is the preferred method?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
